Tried this restaurant for the first time as I was in the area to see a concert. I had the halibut and it was amazing! I wish there was a place near me that would make fish as good as this! Food and ambiance....score them 5 stars! Tables were safely spaced, server was lovely, and food was sooo good! The specials were well priced, but better yet, they were so delicious! We got the salmon and the steak au poivre--both great. Tomato soup and iceberg salad were exceptionally good. Sort of a late review (hey, I've been busy...right!) - we were here in the first week of August, 2020. I first want to address their COVID adaptations. In many areas of MI you find establishments barely conforming to the regulations, or laxadasically enforcing them on their own property because, of course, COVID is just a "hoax". Well, at Timothy's, they are smart enough to understand the pandemic is real, and have implemented very impressive and effective modifications to their operations - masks (staff and customers), social distancing, plexiglass partitions/sneeze guards, limited seating capacity, food service workers wear gloves, etc. So both patrons and staff can feel comfortable about a dining experience at Timothy's. Now to the food/service. We had the Asian shrimp sprig rolls - crisp, vegetables counterpointed with succulent shrimp with a curry overtone, wrapped in firm rice paper, fried just enough to provide that "snap", without rendering the vegetables a soggy mush. This was followed by the shrimps/scallops with udon, the nut encrusted grouper, and the chicken confit. All were excellent - flavorful, balanced, and served at the appropriate temperature. For dessert the girls chose key lime cheesecake an flourless chocolate cake - picked out a single malt for self. Service was attentive without being overbearing, friendly without being disingenuous, reserved without being aloof. While it may seem easy to be a "5 Star" establishment in SW Michigan given the competition and expectations (I mean Redamak's is STILL revered by some...), Timothy's not only transcends the expectations of the region, but also delivers a dining experience worthy of more culinarily adavnced locales. read more

Probably one of the worst dining experiences we have had in a long time. So loud that you could not hear your table mate. Even the waitress had a hard time hearing our order. Took close to 45 minutes to get our food which was way over cooked and dry. Waitress did not check back and when finally did we did not want to send back as we would have been in the totally uncomfortable atmosphere for another 30 -40 minutes waiting for replacement. The price for the meal we got was way too much. We have been there numerous times before but quality and atmosphere has really changed for the worse. Only gave 1 star because couldn't post with zero stars . There are many other better options in the area . read more

Made an off handed comment about liking celery and peanut butter, and Wala the waitress brought some to the table. Worth every penny, great atmosphere, service and food Went last night. Timothy still has it! The new location is just as fun as the old one, and the food is still very good. The staff was all very helpful and friendly and the 12 for 12 is a great deal in the off season. I tried the bang bang shrimp which is usually a gimmicky thing but Timothy has found a way to make it a tasty treat. I also had the gumbo yaya and it was bloody fantastic! Dined here last week. Seemed promising as the parking lot was packed for a Wed. night. $$$ menu for Union Pier. $15 martinis, $30+ entrees. Service avg, Jeff our waiter forgot my soup, I had to remind him after trying to eat my dry chicken and overcooked spinach. Suggested he make up for it with comp dessert. We were charged for dessert. I had purposefully asked Jeff for no asparagus, my entree came with both cold overcooked spinach and asparagus. Busboy finally brought me a side plate to remove the overcooked asparagus. Apparently the waiter cannot be bothered to remove any plates and dirty dishes remained thru dessert and Jeff even had to reach around entree plates to drop off check and retrieve. Good news. Grilled caesar was quite good as was the dessert. Would never return, Stray Dog in New Buffalo, has much better service, food and atmosphere. read more

We dined at Timothy's tonight. For a restaurant that charges what they do, one expects a certain level of quality and service. This was not delivered. We waited too long for our drinks. When our soup and salad came, we asked for bread or crackers and were told they don't have any. Soup and salad plates were not cleared away for quite awhile. I ordered the Maine Mussels on linguine and the pasta was overcooked. No extra plate was given for the Mussel shells so I put them on the paper that covered our table. Our server was not overly friendly. Not a great experience for the price. A much better choice is Brewster's in New Buffalo. read more

So the location itself has gone through a variety of owners and styles, Miller House, then an average at best sports bar, then I don't even know what, but now it is the new location for Timothy's (never been to the old location). After looking at the variety of the menu figured we had to try, got a reservation (place seemed to pack up so good idea for a Saturday night). Decor is very artsy, lots of artwork on the walls assuming with artist's name and prices, some really nice pieces but we weren't looking. Well lit and good temperature next to the window (cold night). Had a view of the outdoor patio which we want to try in the summer. Service was prompt and friendly, food delivered by possibly one of the chefs, not sure. Good level of attention by the staff and one of my bigger peeves, they brought the check promptly. Service 10/10 We order some wine, Meiomi pinot and Joel Gott Cab, both excellent choices by the glass, however a bit pricey at $12, typically these are $9-10. All the food was on the pricier side, however they boast fresh ingredients and the flavor was excellent so I understand that, just be warned. We started with the fried brussel sprout leaves, very good flavor but they were that, leaves, very dry and like eating air. Would have liked a combination of the leaves and some brussel sprouts themselves for texture. We went with seafood (yes, with red wine, we do that). My wife got the miso glazed salmon, I tried their plank halibut special. She did the salad that came, which I have to comment the lemon basil vinaigrette was phenomenal and I want to try to duplicate it. I had the fire roasted tomato soup which I liked, she thought was too smokey. Entrees were both excellent and definitely confirm that the food is why you want to come. They were going all in on fruit and citrus (not sure if this is all the time or just the season), but there was tart and sweetness in the halibut and the salmon had excellent flavor. I got asparagus with mine (very good) she had flash fried spinach (just like the brussel sprout leaves, must be a thing for them). She is typically wary of spinach, tends to get stringy but really liked the flash fried. Potatoes were mashed with I believe some squash, very home-style. At this point we were full and no room for desert (not big desert fans anyway). Going over the menu I can see a dozen other items I want to try, not including the specials which is what we may end up trying most visits. As I said, the one negative is they are pricey for the area, not complaining but that is what makes the difference between 4 and 5 stars, again, using wine as a universal measure. That said I cannot emphasize enough how nice it is to have a good wine selection (especially by the glass) for this area. I would love it if they worked out with Wine Sellers next door so we could pick a bottle and bring it with a cork fee (but then Wine sellers needs to do tastings). That said I would definitely want to come in for a wine dinner if the two team up for that. Also very tempted by their New Years Eve plan. Overall first review is 4/5 stars, will take some more visits to see if it rounds up to five. There are some other high end places I need to compare to (Frankie's, new mgmt, Bentwood, Fiddleheads, etc) and even Brewsters has boosted their gourmet entries, so I'm going to keep my top ratings rare, but definitely, make this a spot you try and more than once. read more

These so called high end vacay restaurants never seem to be worthy of the high prices they command. Worst simple cocktails and served in a water glass so they want you to think you are really getting a great value. For the $15? I want a decent cocktail. Mixed properly. It's too bad because they say they make their simple syrups. So I was really looking forward to a good cocktail. They really wasted a good simple syrup. Next, scallops were not remotely seared & they were gritty (sand) due to not have been cleaned properly. Yes, we all know a gritty scallop can happen. From the other entrees, the fish was watery, and tasteless, despite all the sauces, on the plate. Service was attentive and nice but didn't make up for the rest. The decor is more 90s Vegas vibe with screens on the floor that have fake fishes swimming. I did like the fish sculpture chandelier thing in the main dining area. Its quite stunning on it's own. I guess its a captive audience type of thing. Everyone will try it once. Wasn't the worst but wasn't worth a re visit either I don't think. read more

I'm giving them a 4, but my first experience there wasn't the best. BUT!!!!!!.....they totally corrected everything and made it a very special night!!!! And I will be giving them another try. Went there for a birthday dinner. I ordered a wedge salad, that wasn't really a wedge....I should have read the menu better. Over-engineered. Ordered the sea bass, who doesn't love sea bass!!! The miso glaze was super salty and seemed like it was the bottom of the pot. Also the portion size of the fish was small for the price. Again, off night for the kitchen, but the service was AMAZING. The ambiance was great. The evening was a lot of fun. I would totally recommend giving them a try. They are a staple in the area for a reason. Hopefully my next trip will be even better! read more

This is a new favorite, but I have some criticisms that the restaurant NEEDS to address... First, the positive: The food is excellent, plain and simple, both on the patio and indoors. The seafood seems fresh, properly cooked, and appropriately seasoned such that the natural flavors are enhanced, not overcome. Kudos for this...for many places, this has become a lost art. The only real critique I would have of the food is that the egg on the carbonara...instead of fried, it could be slightly undercooked. I'll know to order it over easy instead of fried in the future. No big deal there. During our first recent visit, we noticed some people dining on the lovely patio. We saw some kids playing, and decided to bring our kids back. There's a spacious outdoor area with a lot of grass and landscaping, perfect for the kids to walk around as they got bored at the table. That said, on our first visit, we saw someone else's kids playing around some planters, and -- at one point -- with some poison ivy growing up a large tree. There was a substantial amount. We said something both to the kids' parents (who were grateful) and the hostess (who seemed like she couldn't care less). Two weeks later, we returned with our kids. Having checked the website, which advertised that you could enjoy apps and pizza on the patio, we thought this would be the perfect place for a relaxed Sunday evening. First thing - the poison ivy was as robust as ever. SMH. Second - despite the fact that we saw people eating a full meal on the patio when we were last there, we were informed that only pizzas were available. When I asked the waitress - letting her know about what we saw before and what was advertised on the website - she said that the policy was "if you're a member of Tim's family, you can eat whatever you would like out here...if not, it's just pizza". Wow. I can't believe they're this open about it. We spent $40 on 3 pizzas for two adults and 3 under 10 and had only just enough. Offering apps would be key to enhancing this experience... the pizza menu (which, BTW, includes no meats) is just too narrow. Overall, we really like this place, despite the opportunities I detailed above. It's honestly a new favorite. I'm providing the feedback because I think there's so much potential that, once addressed, will get us back there so much more. Please...cut the poison ivy and evaluate the back porch offerings. If I could give it no stars I would. The biggest tourist trap and rip off in Harbor Country. We have lived in the area for 15 years. Used to visit the old Timothy's at Gordon Beach Inn and decided to give the new place a try about 1 year or so ago. While the food and serviced were okay it didn't compared to the old Timothy's. Perhaps it was working through opening kinks, especially as the spot is so much larger. We returned last night to give it another try and honestly the worst food and service we have had in the 15 years here. The server was so inexperienced and sassy it was hard to take her seriously. We requested olive oil instead of butter only to be told the olive oil was not of good quality - only for cooking - not for use on bread. Yikes. We ordered the cauliflower without the aioli and were told told we were confusing the server with so many special requests. Double yikes. The crab cake, shrimp egg rolls and cauliflower were so bad that they almost could not be eaten. Almost everything on their appetizer menu is fried and has no flavor. Horrible. When it came time to serve the entrees every person ( only 5 of us) was given the wrong plate. Never mind the wrong entree - we ordered 2 half Caesar salads with chicken but got two whole ones instead. Server said she didn't hear the half part. We played musical plates until we all finally had what we ordered. I won't get started on how horrible, tasteless and uninspiring our dishes were. The worst fish and chips EVER. To be fair the two people who had the chicken Caesar salads seemed to enjoy their dinner. We vowed never to return and give them another try. If you want to spend you hard earned money on decent food and service - don't waste your time here. read more

We visited Timothy's during a visit to the lake. They did a wonderful job with COVID restrictions. We felt very safe and comfortable. Service was amazing. Jeff was friendly and knowledgeable. He suggested a great wine and dinner options. Enjoyed the live entertainment. The grilled Ceasar was fantastic. We had the salmon and gumbo and loved every dish. Ended the night with the key lime cheesecake--- delicious! We will be back!!!! read more

Hi We took a late in the season getaway to Michigan this week. Thursday night we went to Timothy's for dinner! The service and food were exceptional! Wendy waited on us... I'd recommend asking to be seated in her section...if possible She was very informative, and attentive. She was born very close to the restaurant but also worked in Chicago where I'm from, and we knew similar people where she had work. She went above and beyond for us! I got the salmon and bfriend the Gumbo Yaya...bother delish! I got the clam chowder and my bfriend is not a fan, but tried and said it was the best he ever had! I have dined here many times before and every time is better than the last. My boyfriend and I came in tonight for a little birthday dinner for the both of us. We were sat quickly and could tell it was a busy evening. Our server was amazing and definitely made our experience worth coming out for. We both work in a restaurant and couldn't possibly understand more about being short staffed and way too booked, but she was incredible and unbelievably sweet to us. We hardly get to go out because of our busy work schedule in the summer, but given we have birthdays days apart, we decided to treat ourselves to a dinner. Oh my gosh......I had the seabass last evening and I am WOWED!!! It was fantastic!! I'm still talking about it today.........over and over!!! It was delicious!! This was a disappointing experience due to the terrible service. Our server made us very uncomfortable with her eye rolling, huffing, and clear irritation from the time we walked in. This was made worse by the fact that she was ineffective as a server. We were seated without enough silverware; this was not a big deal, except that when we asked for it when we got appetizers, the server got super annoyed and we could see her walk over to the other workers and start yelling at them. We saw her walk away from other tables throwing her arms up in clear annoyance several times. When our appetizer plates weren't taken away by the time our salads came, she walked over to the bussers and started yelling at them in the dining room. We felt sorry for the people who had to work with her. We sat for 45 minutes with no drinks and no food, and never saw our server once. At each of the very few times we saw her, we asked for water refills but never got them; we finally got up, went to the server station and poured our own water. When my mother-in-law told the server that she had peppercorns on the steak that was supposed to come without them, the server just stared at her without saying anything for about 30 seconds and then walked away. It was super awkward and unprofessional. By this time, we were all finished eating and wanted to get out of there (we hadn't seen the server again since she dropped off our food). We had a late reservation, so the restaurant had basically cleared out after our apps - so it wasn't super busy. We had a three hour dinner in a not busy restaurant and we didn't even order dessert. It then took 15 minutes from the time she dropped our check for her to come back for the card. We were literally the last table there and were so ready to leave. The food was fine, might even be worth coming back for it, except we wouldn't want to take the risk that we would get that server, or someone else with her attitude, again. read more

Great ambience. My husband had the halibut which he loved. I had the fish and chips which were bland and tasteless so not a good meal for me. Fresh fish tho. We both enjoyed the spring rolls. They are definitely addressing issues around Covid however I dont understand the silly bag they place on your table. It has a sieve inside for your credit card and another card stating their Covid precautions. The sleeve is useless and it causes more touch points for both guest and server. It's so not necessary. The card states that all employees wear gloves but I saw no one wearing them. Overall I give it a 4 mainly for the ambience and appetizer. read more

First time and definitely worth the drive! Excellent service on a busy Friday night! The atmosphere was loud but you could still talk above the rest. Good Riesling and Pinot Gris for dinner, both German. If you like beets, then have the flash fried beets with siracha appetizer! Totally different and great taste!
