Finally got around to getting myself over to Phill's Diner today off harvard and 31st. Loved the casual small intimate folksy interior...two dinning rooms with a counter in the middle and some booths and tables. They have plenty of kudos on the walls from various magazines and newspapers. The waitress couldn't have been nicer or more attentive, she must have filled my coffee cup half a dozen times! Ordered chicken friend steak and eggs. Eggs were perfectly cooked, as well as the excellent hash browns, crispy outside warm soft inside,smothered with Heinz ketchup, how good is that? Unfortunately the CFS, although good and tasty, was not home made nor hand breaded but some sorta store bought breaded that way steak. However,the waitress did tell me to check out OLD TOWN in Sandy Springs if what's I really want is hand battered home made CFS, so I have that on my list now the next time I get to that area to visit the Crosstimber Preserve or this week ends Herb Festival. Anyway, the biscuit and gravy were great and coffe although not terribly strong get my motor running. Asked about the pancakes and was told they use a mix so dont know if I will come back for breakfast another time. The nearby AMISH KITCHEN looks very promising and they are open for dinner until 8pm. Overall, a good meal but I am in a hunt for the perfect CFS...anybody got any recommendations? read more

My husband and I stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning after staying a night in Tulsa for a concert. We were in search of a the typical casual diner and that's exactly what we got. Simple, no frills eggs and toast kind of place. The waffles here are amazing! Fluffy and buttery. My husband thinks they were the best he's had since a child. read more

I'm not really sure why this place gets even halfway decent reviews. The food is horrible and the atmosphere is trash. The sweet little old ladies who work there almost make it a place worth going with regularity.....until you go to the cash register to pay your tab. The lady running the cash register should work at the post office. She is as rude and un-gracious as just about anyone I have run across in my 30+ years of eating at restaurants. The only thing keeping this place in business is their location. It is either Phil's or Village Inn, (I would take Village Inn all day long and twice on Sunday). read more

We are in Tulsa for a family wedding so we had a large party for breakfast - 6 adults, 2 toddlers and an infant. We were heartily welcomes and seat immediately. The hostess, waitress, everybody was so welcoming and friendly. We were quickly served and the food was awesome! The banana pecan pancakes were out of this world. I would highly recommend Phil's Diner with 10 stars if that was possible. read more

I love tulsa's locally owned restaurants, and have had amazing experiences at all and of them. I was expecting the same from this one, i orders blueberry waffles. They literally take some old frozen blueberries and halfway warm them up and plopped them on the waffles completely mushy and disgusting. This place does not have any butter either they use a 50 percent oil spread which was also discussing. The waitresses are all on their phones when they are not attending the customer or just eating, they don't care about the company's image. They had all these best of Oklahoma picture frames, but I don't understand how that happened. read more

I like to try smaller family diners when travelling and am nearly always pleased. Not so this time. After we were seated, a guy (probably Phil) came by and while talking on his cell, tossed our menus onto the table. I had the sirloin steak, ordered medium rare, and eggs. The steak was past well done and tough as shoe leather. We asked for grits and were informed that we were 5 minutes too late (they stop serving at 11:00 and it was 11:05). We understood and accepted that. Then, the waitress told us what we could order in place of the grits. One of the options was mixed fruit. We both chose the mixed fruit. That consisted of old, brown banana slices along with tasteless blueberries and strawberries. My wife's country ham was not good at all. When we went up to pay, we were somewhat surprised at the $25.28 bill. We asked what the $3.20 was and Phil (I think) said that was the coffee. We asked about the $.99 each and he said it was the mixed fruit. My wife mentioned that we were not told that the fruit was extra and Phil (I think) in a very rude manner said "it's on the menu". Since the waitress said it could be a substitute for the grits, we never thought of looking at the menu to see if it was extra. I guess that we would have expected to be told that if we wanted that, it would be extra. It wasn't so much that we had to pay $1.98 plus tax extra for ordering the mixed fruit, but more that Phil was so rude in how he explained it to us. The eggs were fried well, no runny whites. The biscuits and gravy were good. The coffee was good. The waitress was attentive, friendly and seemed to be trying to give us good service. I only wish she might have told us that by substituting the fruit for the grits, it would cost us extra. We might have still ordered it, but it is good to be told up front. Our biggest complaints were the way we were treated by Phil (once again, I think it was him) and the steak not cooked nearly to my request and the miserable mixed fruit side. I cannot believe we will ever try this place again in spite of all the great reviews. We have been to several diners in Tulsa that we were very pleased with and will probably not give Phil another chance when we know we will be happy with the food and the service at other diners in that area. read more

Phil's diner is amazing!!!! Food is excellent & atmosphere is of days gone by! Friendly, quick & they keep the coffee coming!!! Our daughter doesn't drink coffee so she loves their hot chocolate. They bring one cup along with a Styrofoam container, with a lid, full, so she has at least 3 more refills. The employees know what they are doing & keep things moving. You get great food for great prices! I love to watch the older people and the young families. I love to watch the group of ten men, who have probably been friends for years (ages ranging from 30's to 70's) whom I've seen at least 4 times that we've gone there. People love Phil's because it's not pretentious. You feel like you've just walked in to a small town diner. Love it!!!! read more

Been going to Phill's off and on for years. Open early and a fun place to eat depending on where you sit. The grinch waitresses are on the west side of the center counter and the happy faces on the east, so take your pick. Great breakfasts, fast, and reasonable. But if you're not careful where you sit, assuming you even have a choice, it can turn into a very bad way to start your day. read more

My wife and I tried this diner today for breakfast as we have heard for years that it is rated the best of the best in Tulsa and was billed up as having amazing breakfast. I will say that the place is nice, clean, and friendly. But I was very disappointed in the breakfast. I ordered the 2 egg, pancake, and bacon meal. First, the pancake is soggy, small , and paper thin. If this is how you make pancakes for $7.99 you should have two. Eggs and the 4 strips of bacon was fine, but I can do math and can clearly see you only got about a $1.50 put into the meal and could provide customer's a better value. My wife got biscuits and gravy and it was so cheaply done that she hated it. Plain Jane biscuits with plain white gravy is about as cheap as it gets. Try putting sausage gravy with your biscuits and gravy like almost all restaurants do. I just expected better and not to leave for one still hungry but the quality of the food was the major issue. I can see that this place tries to do everything as cheap as possible and charge a premium price. I will not come back again and would recommend other places with higher quality of food. read more
