I was extremely excited to try this restaurant and was left semi satisfied. To begin-- I had a frozen mango margarita which was very good but contained the most minimal tequila. It is already a small cup size therefore I expected it to be at least a little strong (could've been the bartender of the night). Next, I had the seafood paella for two which was okay. Some parts of the rice were room temperature and others were very hot and I expected a bit more seasoning BUT it was not totally bad. I wish I would've tried their tapas but me and my friend were not that hungry so.. next time! Last but CERTAINLY not least their desert selection all looked delicious! We chose their chocolate lava cake and churros con chocolate and they were amazing!! We devoured both in minutes. Overall, it was a great ambiance and their selections all looked appetizing as well. Four stars out of five stars and I'll tell you why! Wifey and i where in the area and decided to come here based on their yelp reviews...plus the pics were inviting .. So we pull up and it's crowed with all the outside seating being fully accupied , remind you we have no reservation. Luckily the manager was savy enough to set up a table for two on a little bit of realstate he had left. We finally sit and we order our drinks first..we both ordered a coconut /pineaple mojito.. They were (OKAY) the mixed was a bit of..too much pineapple juice and not enough ice...waited for more ice for like 10mins. For starters we ordered some apps... Grilled Uctopus, (presentation was not the greatest ) platain with crab meat ( delicious) the mofungo with shrimp (delicious) and then they messed up and brung our entrés way before we were done with our appetizers.. Smh they had to take it back and keep warm for us.. no biggie but At this point we felt rushed. So we made reservations for 1:30pm brunch & new to the neighborhood we arrived a half hour earlier (due to Sunday parking) but that was no issue. Had a good time using this place as a family reunion of sorts for when my Aunt came to town. My cousin chose this spot and we met up at 3pm on a Sunday and everyone found street parking which I was worried about. I ordered the rack of lamb with mash potatoes. The lamb was real good the potatoes were okay. One of their specialties is their Paella which my cousin recommended as being a good choice for feeding more people than listed. In other words, a 2-people Paella comfortably fed 4 people, especially since everyone wanted to taste an appetizer. The bacon wrapped dates for example were very tasty. The Paella was quite delicious, especially since I could taste the various seafood as key ingredients. I was going skip dessert, but noticed Arroz con Leche on the menu, or Rice Pudding. The dessert portions were also very generous. My pudding could have fed 2 people, and I noticed the Flan was double the normal size. The Check: There was 12 of us, so naturally as is customary, the gratuity or tip, or propina, whatever you're used to calling it, was included. The big surprise: The included gratuity was 25% -----WOW!----- Maybe that's the new custom now, but that seems a bit much as a mandatory charge. Almost like we were being penalized for patronizing the place, but maybe that's the new way, I don't know. Came here with my family on Easter Sunday. Surprisingly it wasn't too crowded. However, the service was really slow. My brother and sister in law recommended this place, but I wasn't too thrilled about it. First, we ordered appetizers which were sent to the wrong table. We waited for an hour for the appetizers so by the time we actually got our appetizers the food should've been out. I ordered an Italian veggie platter, my brother ordered chicken parmesan which was suppose to come with spaghetti, but they gave him french fries the server quickly noticed and brought him spaghetti that were not properly cooked. By that time we were tired of complaining so he just didn't eat the spaghetti. My food was really good, but the experience sucked. The manager, Felix did apologize and gave us complementary desert. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the food isn't horrible and the bus boy Antonio was a sweetheart. This is my third time at this establishment and will most definitely be mine and my families last. I first came to Tin Marin last November after my family suffered a loss we decided to gather here because it was my uncles favorite restaurant. We had Danielle as our server and I thought I must've caught her on a bad day because her attitude was close to ridiculous to be a server. Being in hospitality myself I decided to not go ahead and post a negative review that night even after the eye rolls. Fast forward a year later we decided to bring my mother here for her birthday being that in just two days marks the anniversary of her brothers death we nearly dragged her out of the house only to be presented with yet again an unenthusiastic server and no proper introduction. I kept to myself but everyone at my table seemed to be bothered by our servers attitude. She robotically came to our table once our food was out to ask how everything was but didn't even give us a chance to respond and walked away. Luckily Antonio Bandera as he calls himself was able to bring us our correct sides since the kitchen accidentalIy plated all of the wrong sides to our entrees. I just hope management makes some changes for their future customers being that they just lost 10 customers 10 recommendations 10x sales due to the horrible service yet again provided by Danielle. Again I didn't leave one star because I don't like to lower the average on a restaurant due to service something that can easily be adjusted. Sorry to say we won't be returning to a place whose servers clearly make it feel like we aren't welcomed. read more

What a cute tapas bar in the Bronx. I was invited by a friend for drinks and Tapas. First off there wasnt a big sign so our Uner driver drove by it once inside we were seated quckly it was rather crowded for a Saturday night and a little loud so it was hard hearing my friend. Also the seating is right next to another table which was a little annoying. Our server was pretty helpful helping me decide on my tapas and main course. I ended up ordering the pastelitos and lamb chops. The paselitos were empanadas in various flavors which was very good. They had a cheese, beef, chicken and cheese and beef one. The lamb chops were very well made small in portions of course it being a tapas place and I had a old fashion which was on point. Overall very good neighborhood "hotspot". As hot as we will get in Riverdale. I appreciate the happy hour specials and fresh bread with dipping sauce. As a long time customer, it would be great to see new food options more often. Either added to the menu or by way of specials. Just make sure that you sit in different sections every time you come here so they don't remember your face and how sloppy you were the last time you came here. I came twice on a monday and although it was $5 drinks, I think our bill was $150, not including the coconut water and advil. Really cute decor, bathrooms are clean. Service is a tad bit slow, but in that case just wave the manager down because he's always there to make sure you need what you want. And the datiles with the bleu cheese and bacon is so YUM! Summary: Terrible service, worse food. We were very excited that Tin Marnin finally opened, unfortunately the it was not worth the wait. The restaurant and bar are nicely decorated, but the area is small and cramped. We went there for dinner which took over two hours, by the end we were begging for the check even though all of our food had not yet arrived. Nelson, the server was very inattentive and could care less if our drinks were empty or there were problems with the food. I will say, Tin Marin had a great salad a good red wine sangria's- but that was it. The Charizo was overcooked, full of oil, and missing bread crumbs. The olives were ok, not worth the $5 and only contained black olives even though menu listed a mix of black and green. Shrimp tapas and empanada's were ok at best. read more

We went opening night. It was great to see a Riverdale restaurant jammed and buzzing with music and conversation. The folks next to us said they'd waited a long time for their food, and the very friendly waitress also told us they were backed up, but she really kept on top of it all night. The tapas and sangria were excellent. The musicians and dancers a treat. i think this is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood. I'll be back soon. I think its unfortunate that some people get such pleasure out of posting such long not just neg but hostile reviews on yelp. I'm not a fan of this place anymore. I remember coming here over the summer and it was so nice to sit outside with a drink and order a small tapas dish during the afternoon. However, the last two times that I've visited, I've had terrible experiences with the service. One night my boyfriend and I went for dinner, and we were seated at a table and waited over a half hour for our waiter to return to take our order. I kept seeing him running around here and there, but he was never close enough to flag him down. After about 30-40 minutes of waiting, we were so hungry and frustrated that we ended up just getting up and leaving. I decided to give this place one more chance, and I went back on a busy Friday night (which was probably my mistake). It was so packed and LOUD in there that you basically had to speak directly into someone's ear for them to hear you. There was one table open, but it was literally the same table that another couple was sitting at, with two extra chairs cramped onto the end. It looked as if a lot of the tables were like that.. either they were meant for 4 chairs and they had 2 different couples sitting together, or it was a very long table with multiple couples eating together. It was strange. It looked like such an awkward seating arrangement, and the place was dark and super loud.. we ended up leaving again instead of sitting down. It's a shame because I remember coming to this place before and the food and drinks were pretty good. Too bad their service isn't up to par. read more

My husband and I just went to Tin Marin last night at the suggestion of my in-laws (who are very particular about their restaurants). They enjoyed their experience at Tin Marin previously and wanted to go back. We called ahead to see if there was available seating for 7pm. Lucky for us, there was! They had beautiful live music and flamenco dancing! While the music was a little loud for my in-laws at times, my husband and I really enjoyed! I felt transported from Riverdale in to a different time and place. What a treat to have Tin Marin in our neighborhood now! On to the food. We ordered 3 tapas, 2 entrees, and a large pitcher of strawberry sangria. All I can say is that my husband and I were pleasantly surprised. After reading some reviews about Tin Marin, I was expecting ok food and service. However, Tin Marin exceeded our expectations! We knew once we ordered the Paella we would have to wait 30+ minutes (as stated on the menu). So we ordered some tapas: filled/wrapped dates, stuffed potatoes dish, and chorizo. It was delicious. We sipped on our sangria ( a little light on the alcohol...our next visit I will ask them to have a bigger pour) and listened to the beautiful music and watched the dancers until our salmon dish and seafood paella arrived. As a few others have mentioned, service is a bit slow, but they definitely make up for it in their food, drinks, and just the vibe of the place. There are dark brick walls and booths and tables, and they have some outdoor seating as well. We ordered a bunch of different tapas and all of them were really good. They don't have vegetarian paella on their menu, but we asked if they could make it for us, and they did. The veggie paella was delicious! It was the last dish, so we were starting to get full, but we still finished every last bit of it. We ordered the papas rellenas de queso, setas, empanadas, and queso machego, and they all were good. I've lived in Riverdale for 11 years now and I've given this place a try 4 times since it opened. I keep wishing that the food would get better but it hasn't. The ambiance is great because you can sit outside. Even if you are seated inside during good weather, the doors are wide open so you get that feel anyway. They also have a fun live music scene at night. I just went the other day because someone gave me a gift card. I stuck to just ordering a wine and appetizers but even those have not gotten better. The lamb chops were overcooked, the flatbread looked like it was old and the other two (shrimp in garlic sauce and croquetas) were just passable but nothing to recommend. It's not your typical Spanish tapas restaurant. A lot of the tapas have a Caribbean twist. I try to order something different with each visit but I will always order the sweet plantain stuffed with crab and topped with mozzarella cheese. I will order it and I will reluctantly share it. You should just order your own. The waitstaff is friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. They have favorites. I love a waiter with a favorite wine they can recommend. The sangria is a big seller here, but I'm not sure why, it's too sweet for my taste and lacks a punch. I want my sangria to make my knees a little wobbly. They have happy hour specials until 7pm, and flamenco dancers that make you think you can dance like them when you get home, but all you get is an angry downstairs neighbor who hits his ceiling/your floor, with the broom.
