Once I landed a big girl job, I thought I'd start treating myself with regular mani/pedis. The place I'd occasionally go to for special occasions when I was in high school was long gone, so I found Tip & Toe through an extensive Yelp search. Donna and Lena exceeded my expectations, and I am now a regular visitor. The color selection is great (and they always make fantastic suggestions), the hot stone massage that comes standard with pedis is amazing, and my nails always look fantastic. This place is AWFUL, all the way around. 1. The small, ugly room smells terrible and there is no attempt made at ventilation other than to leave the door open. It was a cold day when I was there, and the door was behind me, which meant I was freezing and could still smell the chemicals. 2. The owner (Donna) lied to me about time. I'm not a novice here--I know how long it takes to do a manicure and a pedicure, and I know how long it SHOULD take. I was there for 2.5 hours. She said "an hour, tops." She said her assistant would do my pedicure while she did my manicure...and then another customer came in and the assistant started working on her instead! Her assistant had to keep going out to fill the meter for me (which they charged me for) and even with all that, it was still expired when I finally left. 3. The owner is RUDE. When I mentioned that my nails were getting hot, she acted as if I'd slapped her across her face. Then she spent 20 minutes repeating over and over and over how her regular customers say how gentle she is, and how nice, etc etc. No apology. And the worst comment, "OHHHH, you're too sensitive! You're so picky!" 4. The chairs are unbelievably uncomfortable. Again, I tried to say something and shift myself as my back was in pain, and they yelled at me to sit still and told me that I was making it harder for them to work. ?!?! 5. Perhaps the most important thing--my "pink and whites" turned out HORRRRRRIBLE!!! The edges were coming up (she just did them!!), they were twice as thick as usual, and the edge (between pink and white) was blurry, uneven, and didn't follow the natural line of my nail. She did not taper the pink down to the cuticle--in fact, the pink didn't even reach my cuticle, so basically she gave me a manicure that looked like it had already been growing for a week. She left glue stuck to my fingertips, didn't attempt to clean out the underside of the tips, and applied the white powder so unevenly that you could see through parts of them. OMG. 6. Once she decided I was too "picky" and "sensitive," she gave up talking to me and talked to her assistant and her other customers. Period. Apparently I was dead to her (although my wallet wasn't). This dump is literally 50 feet from my office, but in the future I'm going to drive the 20 minutes it takes to get to my usual place. It's worth the trouble. Parking here is a nightmare, but only because she spends over two hours getting done what normally takes maybe 75 minutes max. Donna is not up on the latest techniques, and even stated she didn't have any "fancy equipment" like I was probably used to. Her assistant is almost as bad--at one point I had to stop trying to figure out what she was doing and just pray that my toes would still be there when she was done. *sigh* I'm disgusted that this woman takes money for her "services." Terrible business ethic. If I ran my business like she does, I'd be done before I started. read more

OMG!!! Perfect nail spa place. Right in the center of Burlingame. Salon is really clean, unlike others. They use plastic bags for every client, the hygiene is on a top. I just moved to Bay Area and so happy I found Tip and Toe. Donna and Lina are amazing and professional.
