ALWAYS STAY LOYAL....this is the lesson I learned today. I usually go down the street on 3rd to my favorite spot at Thai original BBQ when I need a Thai fix. But considering that I found this place (Do No Tip's! Haha) which is walking distance, thought I would give it a try. Their food is mediocre at best and of course everyone needs to try the signature Pad Thai at any Thai restaurant. I asked no bean sprouts and she said $2 more????? I repeated myself, no no not extra, no bean spouts please. She said because then they have to use more noodles to fit the proportion we have to charge extra. I said I don't care about the portion, you could give me same portion, I just want to taste it. But she said we can't do it like that. What kind of effin business are you running here? I said never mind forget, I'll just sit and order something else. I was gonna have the food to go, but my friend wanted to meet and so I sat down and just ordered one of their combo plates while waiting for him. When my friend arrived, I told him what happened and he cracked up, but decided to order the Pad Thai cuz he wanted to try it anyway. Since he also ordered soup and wanted to share everything and still let me finally try the Pad Thai, he asked for an extra small plate.......she said NO???? Now seriously wtf! She said because I ordered a combination plate, there's no sharing. What the ****??? What do u mean no sharing? A friend of mine that delivers food recommended this place. He eats there all the time, but the reason we were even talking about it was that he mentioned ordering the spicy fried rice very hot by mistake. When he said he needed almost 4 glasses of thai tea my interest was peaked. He also said that it was so good he couldn't stop eating it! I love spicy, but a lot of places spice things up to much and kill the taste so I really wanted to try it. I immediately ordered it for lunch after we finished talking. I drove over and picked up my lunch from a very nice lady who made sure I had everything I needed. I found a place nearby to park and eat since dining in nowadays is not a option. Love at first bite. This rice was very tasty and very hot! I should say that when I ordered this over the phone the woman on the line asked me three times if I was sure I wanted very spicy? I ate the entire generous portion in the car. I was so impressed by the taste I ordered dinner for the family the same day (not spicy). Everything we ordered was fantastic. Taste and freshness was great in every dish. Bottom line: This is my go to Thai. The only way I will go to another Thai food restaurant is if this place is closed for the day, or if I am more that 6 hours away. Good Job Tip's! read more

Much better than anything Thai Town but let's say, not that pleasing to the eye. First they don't use white meat dry-ass chicken. Thank god. Another terrible gift of "white" American cuisine. White meat for white people - is chicken racist too? Flavors are very good and while I wouldn't say as good as Asia, better than the crap they serve in LA with the exception of san Gabriel valley. A little too Chinese in the flavor department to be perfect but a nice change from everything else in Ktown. Their rules about how many plates they'll give you to share or not are ducking ridiculous. And the fact that it closes just when dinner hits is also stupidity beyond belief. Other than that - awesome! read more

We had this place for dinner a few weeks ago and it was delicious. It's probably more of a "pick up and go" place, but we decided to sit down and eat and even though they close at 7:00, they let us stay a little bit longer to finish our meal. It's cash only but my personal theory is if a restaurant can stay in business in 2012 by being cash only and having wonky hours, you know the food is fantastic, and Tip's House delivers on that theory. We just had pad thai (boring, yes, but a good barometer of whether or not the other things are worth eating) and yellow curry and both were fantastic. We ordered medium spicy because my bf is averse to too much spice but we probably could have gone up another spice level without too much terrible. I love this neighborhood Thai restaurant! I first would like to give compliments to the staff there because they are always so friendly and approachable every time I've eaten or picked up food from there. The food is pretty solid and I appreciate how they have a lunch/dinner combo plate. I particularly enjoy the Spicy Garlic Chicken & the Chicken Satay. The combo meals come with 2 scoops of white rice (can change it to fried rice for an extra 50 cents), an egg roll and a side salad - all for generally $7-9! I would say that is a great bargain! Parking may be a little tricky since there isn't a designated parking lot (and let's be real - it's Ktown haha) and also the restaurant is Cash only. There is an ATM across the street at the liquor market in the plaza on the corner but it does charge a service fee. In the "land of the free" one would expect to get their meal made the way they want it made. This country is all about options, is it not? Well, you can kiss those options good bye if you decide to dine here. If you want a dish made with or without a particular ingredient, forget about it. If you're allergic to that particular ingredient, too bad. You want to substitute a bit of extra rice for the salad? No dice. I gave this place a call and tried ordering the Pad See Ew with no broccoli (because I'm allergic to it). The girl told me they can't make the meal without broccoli. I asked if the meal was freshly made and she said yes. So, I asked why they can't make the meal the way I want it. She replied that the chef won't change the way they make it. She then had the audacity to tell me that I can go ahead and pick them off myself. SERIOUSLY??? I mentioned that a couple of days earlier, I ordered the chicken fried rice with no onions (I'm not a fan of raw onions), and there was no problem there. But apparently, Pad See Ew is different for whatever reason... After a series of pointless apologies, I asked if I can order the Thai chicken lunch special , but would like to substitute the salad for a bit of extra rice. Again, a few more pointless apologies followed by a no. One would figure a bit of rice to be worth less than the salad, but whatever. I said forget it, hung up, and went to Romero's Mexican Restaurant right down the street instead. I find it extremely hard to believe that a place that doesn't have a single dish priced above $9.95 can be so fascist when it comes to the preparation of the meal. The Pad See Ew I was going to order was $5.95! I understand being prideful about what you cook, but get real!!! The next person who ordered that is more than likely going to drench the whole thing with 4 packets of soy sauce anyways... In all fairness, the one thing I did order a few days prior, the chicken fried rice, was by far better than other cheap, fast-food style Thai restaurants like Thai Ocha or TG Express. (Hence the two stars) But, I won't submit to a restaurant that will not make my food the way I order it. I usually am skeptical of Thai food that's not inside or at least near Thai Town, but I saw this pop up when I was looking for a place to take a colleague with a gluten allergy. Apparently Thai food is pretty gluten-free friendly, so this became the top contender. When we arrived last week Friday a little after 11:30 for lunch, the restaurant was busy but they still had room to seat the five of us even though it took combining two smaller tables. The menu is pretty extensive. The top front features a list of specials, which basically means you pay $7 or $8 and get the dish, some rice, an egg roll, and a small side salad. It's not the world's most epic portions, but it's decent for a under $10 lunch special. The menu continues and is divided into different sections. My eyes immediately ran to the curry section, and I saw my favorite - Massaman curry. I ordered it with beef and a side of brown rice (they charge you $2.50 for it, but I was trying to be healthy). All the food came out pretty quickly, and my fellow diners seemed content. My curry bowl was kind of small, but it actually was more than I needed to finish my brown rice. The curry included some small pieces of green pepper and onion, and the beef was thinly sliced. I've had better Massaman curry elsewhere, but this was reasonable for a $8 lunch (not including the brown rice surcharge). Service: Ma and pa for the win! Our server - who may have been the owner/manager - was friendly but also kind of fun. She closely interrogated one of my colleagues who tried to order as spicy as possible, and she playfully gave a hard time to another colleague who was having a hard time deciding between curry and pad thai. Bottom line: Can't compare to Thai Town, but if you're looking for a quick and cheap Thai fix, Tip's isn't too bad! Remember cash only. read more

When you're here, you're family. Once I parked illegally on 6th to run in and get my food. While she was ringing me up, the absurdly cool Kannika had a look of horror and motioned towards my car which was, not surprisingly, getting a ticket. I ran outside and pleaded with the meter maid who seemed to be getting her week's worth of schadenfreude from sticking me with a parking violation. No dice. When I came back in, Kannika said that her mom (who happens to be the chef) felt so bad that she didn't want to charge me for lunch. Now let's be honest, how many places in LA (much less cheap family-owned diners that miraculously stay in business) would do that? Not a lot. This place is special. And I haven't even gotten to the food. The thing I like most about Tip's House is that they'll make whatever you want. Hell, they would probably warm up some Lean Cuisine if you asked. I'm on a pretty strict low-sodium diet, which doesn't make me a great candidate for Southeast Asian food, but this place has always been super accommodating and HONEST. If I ask for something with no salt and it's pre-made or drenched in fish sauce or whatever, they don't beat around the bush. The pad thai is great, as are the pineapple fried rice and pepper garlic chicken. If you're looking for a deal, go with a lunch special. Only caveat: it's cash only. But who cares. My mom once told me it's illegal to have less than $2 in your pocket, and if you have $2 you can probably get something here. Delicious, fresh, seemingly authentic food at Del Taco prices. This is the epitome of the hole in the wall restaurant that people always talk about. The food is absolutely delicious and very cheap! My recommendations are for the Pad See Ew (flat rice noodles with chicken) or the spicy Pad Kee Mow (which is just called Spicy Noodle on their menu). The waitress that works here "Shh'ed" me so she could finish her phone conversation and then when I told her the food looks delicious, she said, "You don't know that, you have to try it first." This is my favorite spot in K-town! It's a hidden gem for sure. The service is impeccable! The one server they have is THE best. She remembers your previous order even if you haven't been in a while. I called in an order one time and she told me if I couldn't find parking that she'd deliver it to the nearest curb. Told me the total and even bought the correct change with her outside. You can't beat that kind of service! Prices are reasonable? NO they're cheap:-) the food is well seasoned and served in decent portions. I discovered this place when going down to the Salvadorian place next door. Of all my years eating Thai food around Los Angeles, this is by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. The menu includes all of the expected Thai fare, cooked by skilled hands and nicely presented, even when ordered to go. The people who work there are sweet and always make me smile. A few words of warning: They don't skimp on spice. I love hot, spicy food and the "medium" spice on some of their dishes really makes my mouth burn, so I'd recommend avoiding "spicy" on your first visit. I wanted to like the food a lot but I didn't :( The coconut soup was really flavorful but the low quality chicken kinda messed it up. The meat wasn't big or juicy. It was tiny pieces of meat and you can still see the fat and a little cartilage on it. Ordered the beef pad se ew, it was okay. And a ginger chicken dish. Nothing very memorable and again the meat wasn't good quality at all. Even the ice coffee and Thai iced tea was just okay. Food would be so much better with quality ingredients.
