Finally a Filipino diner style restaurant in Oakland close to my house! As someone who just moved here from Daly City, I get those Lucky Chances and Tselogs cravings, but my own cooking just wouldn't suffice.. Thank god Tipunan opened to help fulfill those cravings. My favorite dish has to be the sinigang, hands down! If you like sinigang so tangy that it makes your jaw tingle and lips pucker up, then this is for you. Also, the pork ribs in the sinigang is so tender that it falls off the bone, leaving the bone completely clean. Definitely recommend if you want one of the best Filipino comfort dishes. Aside from the sinigang, I've had the kare-kare w/ lechon, tapsilog, bangsilog, and lumpia. All good dishes as well. The price of the dishes are definitely up there for Filipino food, but if you've been to Lucky Chances then you shouldn't be too surprised. Personally, I'm willing to pay the premium for good Filipino food, especially for not having to drive across the bay. What I love about Tipunan is that their food has that "Tita" touch. The food tastes like the dishes you would get from the chafing trays at Filipino parties. Today. I woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus. The type of sick where cooking for myself is just not an option. I found Tipunan on my door dash app. I am 1/2 Filipino, I can cook some Filipino dishes. Some dishes I cook well others not so much.. getting Filipino food from a restaurant is hard sometimes. Nothing compares to homemade, and I end up getting disappointed. But I'm here to tell you Tipunan did NOT disappoint! I got the ox tail Nialga, a rich beef soup with vegetables. It was so delicious! Perfect and balanced, not salty at all just lots of rich beef flavor. The veggies were perfect. And the did not skimp on the beef! This nilaga is the best I've had from a restaurant second only to my auntie Nora who is in her 80s and can make a mean pot of nialga. I also got the pork lumpia, delicious! I am super excited about trying other dishes from Tipunan. And when I feel better I will go in-person to see all the delicious food options they have. For me someone who is Filipino and has grown up in Daly City the absolute Mecca of Filipino cuisine, I know when it's done rite and when it's done wrong. The dishes they offer on the DoorDash app those dishes take hours to make and I can tell they take their time when it comes to their dishes because of the taste in consistency. Eating Filipino food my whole life I know what it taste like when it's been sitting there a couple days, and with Tipunan it always tastes like it's from the fresh batch just made that day. The owners ( Jojo and Kai) were super welcoming and engaging. They promised the food would bring my wife and I back again and they weren't wrong! Everything we ordered that night was delicious. I order dinner from this through DoorDash. I favorite is the kare-Kate with the crispy pork belly, turon, nilaga and the mungo! But for the 3 months I have not seen the mungo on the menu (please bring it back!). So far this is the only Filipino restaurant that I ordered from here in Oakland. I love that there's now a good Filipino spot nearby. I've ordered twice from here in one week, and so far everything we've tried has not disappointed us. The first time we ordered the bbq chicken, fried pork belly, dinuguan and pancit- all hit the spot, especially the dinuguan (which is a great thing cuz I'm real picky with how it's made). Tonight, we had the chicken inasal, pork belly again (my bfs fav.), and spaghetti. The spaghetti reminded me of my childhood, specifically McSpaghetti I'd order at McDonald's in the Philippines when I'd visit there as a kid- it's comforting. Definitely a go to when I'm craving a hearty Filipino meal and don't feel like whipping up one myself. Now if only they served grilled pompano.... lol read more

Alright, usually I don't leave reviews on Yelp. Wanted to be taken back to childhood, to my parent's cooking, so I searched up Filipino food nearby and found Tipunan. Menu items on the list looked standard for a Filipino restaurant. Saw the screenshots, serving size looked small and prices seemed a little high, but I was willing to give it a shot, so I ordered online for pickup. Currently, it seems like they operate out of their kitchen with their black metal sliding door, so when you go to the address, you'll see a small sign in the window, and people working in the kitchen. Just catch the attention of one of the workers and they'll come over to open the sliding door and hand you your order. This is the kind of quality Filipino food I was looking for here in the Bay. Gerry's Grill in Union City feels a little Americanized but also good quality (along with a couple other stores down there that are smaller, but that's usually where you find the good stuff). My friend and I ordered the tosilog and sisigsilog plates and it was filling, despite the plate looking kind of small! Of course, had to order it with the garlic rice, which is pretty standard. Was craving Filipino food and found this place and it did not disappoint. We ordered tapsilog, lechon kawali, and mungo. The kids loved the tapsilog! The mungo reminded me of home. Lechon kawali was the right crisp. It was nice to find Filipino food without any fusion, food that reminded me of how my grandparents cooked in PI. The owner Jojo even came out to greet us. Tipunan you've been a missing piece in my life. Hubs and I have ordered from here a couple of times and I am finely ready to write my review. First time we ordered kare kare, sinigang, and sisig. We loved everything and all of them were so different and provided a depth of flavor. Hubs favs were kare kare and sinigang, and mine were sisig and sinigang. The second time we ordered from them, we got fried crispy pork, bbq pork skewers, sisig, and sinigang. I was really hoping the consistency was there because we loved it from the first time, and glad to know it was! Again, everything tasted phenomenal. We had some Classics: Beef Nilaga, Pork Sinigang (we couldn't pass up on either of them), and Pork Adobo. The meats in the soups were of great portion, and very tender. The flavors hit the spot, and veggies plentiful. The portioning of the Adobo was huge, and we will make another meal out of it! The Pork was full of flavor, each piece very well-cooked and seasoned. I got sinigang, sisig and kare kare. I loved all the flavors everything was delicious the turon and was something I've been craving for a while and i was happy w how it came out. The Pork Adobo was the perfect combo of salty/sweet/vinegar and stayed moist even when reheated. I used to live near Daly City and was spoiled by all the great Filipino restaurants. Since moving to Oakland, it's been more difficult to fill those cravings for homemade food. Luckily I gave Tipunan a try last night and I'm so glad I did!! I had the sinigang, kare kare, pork skewers, turon, and ube bilo bilo (all for 1 person so I can make sure I have leftovers for days!). Everything was excellent, none of the fuss of fusion filipino food (which is great for some but not me), large portions, and loved all the sides they offer (achara, vinegar, tomato slices, patis).
