This is our favorite Mex restaurant when in Newport. However, this last visit was not up to snuff so it gets 3 stars (still "A-OK" ). We went for the nachos and picture of Margaritas, what a dinner!. The parking lot was almost full but there were still 3 tables left, so never let a seemingly full parking lot stop you from going. The chips were thick and just OK. I've gotten used to the very thin and hot chips that other places serve. The "famous" salsa was also just OK, seemed like it was basically tomato sauce with some herbs. Put them together for the nachos and it was truly "just OK". THe margaritas are about the best you can get in a restaurant, not acidic but on the sweet side, which is good and brought our experience back to A-OK. Service that night was not "A-OK" but "Y-uck". It was around 8:30 on a Friday and our waitress acted like it was past last call and time for us to go and she had better things to do. read more

There isn't much parking so it's probably not the optimal place for large groups, but for parties of 4 or families this wouldn't be a bad option. When you go here, you have to know that this isnt authentic mexican food. This is American food with some mexican inspiration. If you go here hoping for something other than a half pound of cheese on top of ground beef and tortillas than you are at the wrong place. That being said I don't mind this place. Nachos, salad, burritos, enchiladas are all as they are described on the menu and nothing more. You aren't going to leave saying wow but at the same time it is fairly cheap, large portions and one of the few non take-out only american-mexican places around. Hadn't been here in years - not since they converted to table service. We were greeted quickly and told to sit wherever we like. Fresh, warm chips and salsa were delivered within one minute to our table. They have a selection of sodas bottled for Tito's, so I tried the Tito's root beer and it was great. I had the Tito Burrito with shredded beef. It was very good. Service was quick and efficient - though not very personable - but that's fine with me at a taco stand for lunch. I don't agree with many of the negative comments in previous reviews. There was no "funny smell" and it was WAY better than a Taco Bell. read more

I should start by admitting that when we talk dinner I usually say, "I don't like Mexican." Of course, my fiance likes to make sad eyes and tell me he wants to go to Tito's. I'm the chick who opts for Mexi fries instead of beans and rice. No one seems to mind that I scoot the little piles of lettuce and tomato off the top of whatever I order (did I also tell you I don't do vegetables). I never dip into any sauce that's on my plate unless it's mole. The food is always good, I've never had a margarita I didn't love, and most of the servers are great. Two we have encountered have been exceptional. For me, that's always the kicker, I want great service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I went there with my girlfriend and my parents about two weeks ago. We got the jalapeno poppers for an app, different entrees, and a pitcher of margarita. Poppers were hot and spicy, but no too spicy. We make them for family events now. The best entree was that fish quesedilla (cod and spinach). I have had it multiple times since then. The margarita pitcher was AWESOME! You get 4 margaritas for the price of 3. I don't know what tequila they use, but it makes a huge difference. My mom really liked it, if you catch my drift. Haha. The first couple times I went to Tito's I didn't exactly love it. The service sucked and the food came out wrong. After moving back to the area we decided to give it another try. I love this place now. The food comes out quick and it's good. I wouldn't order drinks from here because they're way overpriced, but that's Newport for you. The fried ice cream is literally the best fried ice cream I've ever had, definitely get some. They bring out chips to start the meal, which is nice. I usually order the tacos, which are good. The staff seems to be a lot better now than it used to be. The meal prices seem to vary, which is kind of odd. Had to come out here for a midterm exam in a different campus for school and noticed this Mexican spot. I love Mexican so why not stop in and try it... I sat myself down as i was told and the waitress came right over and asked me if I wanted anything to drink I got the blue moon margarita which is delicious and strong. She also brought me these tasteless chips and salsa ... they taste like they are from stop and shop. I ordered the macho nachos and it came out really quick! Customers don't wear masks even when there is nothing on the table. People sitting there yapping like there is no COVID-19 to worry about. "Unappetizing." That was my fellow diners' impression of Tito's Cantina. That is why I am giving two stars. My words of caution here: order carefully and wisely. This was the tale of different experiences. If I was basing this review solely on my experience, I would give it three stars. I ordered the chicken and black bean quesadilla with a side of guacamole, and I may have gotten a little too excited when I saw Bacardi Oakheart behind the bar and immediately ordered it with Coke. My drink was strong and my food was good; however, I have had much better guacamole, and it is pretty difficult to mess up a quesadilla. The service would have prevented me from going four stars. We shadowed the doorway for a good five minutes without a hostess coming over to greet and seat us -- despite the "Please wait to be seated" sign. I noticed four stools at the bar, so we seated ourselves there. Every milestone of the meal after that was painfully slow, especially for the bar. And, there was a bit of confusion with the bill at the end of the meal when the waitress couldn't figure out how to split it between cash and a credit card. This seems like a great spot for a couple of drinks, but, again, be careful what you order off the menu. It will make or break your experience. read more

This is a solid spot to get some tex-mex. I like it here because they have a big menu and so there is something for everyone. I like the three amigos - the three enchiladas. Just had a burrito and must confess that I had very high hopes for it. The staff were very friendly and the vibe in the place is great. Unfortunately, the burrito was very underwhelming. Being from SOCAL and having spent some time traveling in Mexico, there are things to expect from this common street food. They miss the mark on a filling burrito and over stuff with fried onions... Not something that usually appears in the Mexican ones. The 'Carne Asada' was not that. It was sliced steak. It was more a fajita than a burrito. This was my first time at Tito's. While it was busy and short staffed; me, myself, someone who works food service, I understand, however; their wait staff (2/4) were very unprofessional and extremely rude. We were sat and the woman took our drink order. She walked by several times to tell us to "be patient and she'll be right over to take our order"....6 times before passing us off to another waitress (who was great). We were there for an hour and a half before our table was able to order our food, meanwhile everyone else (parties of 2, even) were given their drinks and food before we were even acknowledged. We asked to talk to a manager, who was extremely rude because she "was called in on her day off." First off; today was the parade in Newport; anticipating a busy restaurant is key and being the manager, you should be there anyway so that's no excuse for your piss-poor attitude, thank you. Also, if you're short staffed, the manager is obligated to come in. That's not the problem of the patrons who come into your establishment. If your customers have a complaint, YOU TAKE IT SERIOUSLY, you do not give them an attitude. Just an fyi. Might wanna take notes because clearly you don't understand how to run or manage a resturaunt or even know how to be professional, and then to come back and tell us that "youd appreciate us not saying bad things while others are eating"??? Are you serious? We're paying customers! We're dissatisfied and upset and you have the nerve. Wow. You need a new profession. We arrived and there was one other couple at the restaurant. Our group consisted of 5 adults and 4 children. Our order took two hours. Multiple items were wrong. One of the dishes took so long, I had to take it to go, and when I opened the fish tacos, they were shrimp. The server kept apologizing and said that they were short staffed. I felt sorry for her, but the entire staff was slow and unorganized. It was a terrible experience and we will never be back. read more

Okay so a group of friends and I went to Tito's for dinner not expecting much from a Mexican food restaurant in Rhode Island. The chips are not made in the kitchen and the salsa is unfavorable and mediocre at best. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and was very disappointed. The steak was not marinated in a traditional Carne Asada mixture, which means no spice or flavor. It was doused in sour cream cream and the vegetables were basic and also unfavorable. If you are vesting from the Southwest stay away from Tito's. Also my buddy got the Popey's casadia and took one bite and almost threw-up. The chicken was under cooked and unetable. The only good thing about Tito's was the servous. The waitress (Danielle) was nice and very understanding. I do not recommend the eatery to anybody. read more

My friend and I wanted to have a mommy margarita night and decided to go down the street to Tito's. I hadn't been in a few years but what I remembered, I liked. When we arrived, it was fairly busy and the hostess told us we could sit at the bar while we waited for our table. We went to the bar and ordered two margaritas...very expensive ones at that. We waited about about ten minutes and had not received our drinks, though the people down the other end of the bar who sat after us already had theirs. The hostess came over and told us our table was ready. We told her that we hadn't received our drinks yet. She assured us that our waitress would bring them to us shortly. Another ten minutes later, the waitress comes over to our table with menus only. We ask about our drinks and she responds that they will be right over. Another ten minutes goes by and she comes back empty handed again to take our order. I'm thinking we should just cut our loses and get out if there but we stayed. She takes our order and before she leaves I ask her to get our drinks and put in an order for the next round as it surely won't be there for another thirty minutes. Our drinks FINALLY arrive and they were AWFUL! They clearly were made incorrectly and could have gotten the whole place wasted. They had at least five times the amount of tequila in it and we saw the bartender sniggering while we drink them. The rest pretty much the same...food was terrible and we were both afraid to eat it for fear that someone did something to it. The final insult was not realized until the next day. We had paid half in cash and have by credit. My friend added a tip on the credit card receipt and we left...a bit buzzed due to the horrible drinks we forced ourselves to finish..,they were so expensive! The next day, my friend looked at the receipt a d realized that the waitress only put twenty of the fifty dollars of cash on the bill and put the rest of the amount on the credit card. So, she got tipped twice for terrible service! She stole from us!!! Even worse is I know this girl! Will never go back! Ever! read more
