My colleague and I recently shopped at the TJ Maxx in midtown west. After browsing and trying on some items, we later waited on a long line to pay at the registers. When we were next in line behind another woman, a staff member walked past the woman in front of us and angrily shouted at me and my colleague to step back behind the stand where the line began. When I made note of the woman who stood in front of us and asked why she didn't ask the other woman to step back, the staff member did not respond and walked away. There were many others who stood beyond the stand as well. The staff member's actions were done with intention. While my colleague and I purchased items, I later returned the items that same day. read more

Seriously hate this TJ Maxx so much. Customer service here is a joke. They'll make you wait 10 minutes for a product they claim they have "downstairs" and then they'll come back saying they have none. So far this has happened to me twice here so far. So damn frustrating - first it was with a pair of shoes (which I needed for an emergency and was willing to purchase one size bigger since they barely cater to people with a 5-5.5 sized foot!) and the second time was with an umbrella. It was torrential pouring outside. NOT COOL. TJ Maxx isn't so bad if you need an emergency top (ever had a pen squirt ink on you? Trust me, emergencies happen!) or shoes and are a size 7 or up. I also came here during Memorial Day weekend because I needed a black strapless bra for a dress I was wearing to a wedding that weekend - TJ Maxx totally helped me there too... But what really grinds my nerves is how no one knows where anything else, no one knows how items are really organized, more often than not clothes are on racks they should not be (this is unacceptable in the morning when there hasn't even been a lot of customers around to mess things up - don't they organize at night before closing up?) - worked retail - believe me, TJ Maxx can stand to learn something from Sephora on cleaning up, organizing and providing customer service). In conclusion, this TJ Maxx location is OKAY. - as 2 stars on Yelp denotes, I've DEFINITELY experienced (MUCH) better. If you notice the common thread in my review, I come here for EMERGENCIES. Ugh! What a TOTAL disappointment. I've been waiting for weeks for this TJ to open. I went on opening day, which was pretty crowded. The staff was super friendly and hospitable. But man what a total let-down. --The aisles are so small you can barely walk through and that's WITHOUT a cart. -- Only two aisles of bath and bedding stuff (1/2 aisle of towels). That's it? Really? They didn't even have bath mats. -- The Home Goods area makes me want to cry. It's four aisles (I think the store on 6th Ave is more like 10). And of the four aisles -- half of it is holiday crap. Actually come to think of it - 1/6 of the store is holiday crap. -- There was 1 rack of dresses. Not one aisle, one RACK. Maybe I'm spoiled by the 6th Avenue store and maybe all TJ Maxx are like this one, but it's seriously 1/4 the size of the one downtown. The selection was so small and cramped. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely be back but this location is not near as much fun as the location downtown. read more

While most of the employees and managers are very professional in this store, there is a manager Eli or Elija who is absolutely rude and disrespectful. His goal is to not help but to ignore, disrespect and to not work. He moves very slowly or does not move when cashiers call him to do something. He is hostile with a bad attitude and always finds a way to disrespect customers and to avoid work. He should be fired for unprofessional behavior and laziness. read more

This is a smaller outlet; But I still found 3 great swimming suits on an icy February afternoon, for of course an extremely good price. This two floor store is In the week not so crowded at least not in Winter. All the staff is very very friendly and helpful. I am generally not a fan of discount retailers like Marshall's or TJ Maxx, etc. because I am average male size. This means there is almost never anything worth buying as every place they get their stock from is dumping sizes and/or styles that didn't sell at the full price store. Great deal on a shirt? It is an XL. My size? It is a stylistic disaster. All of this ranting aside, I find myself at this TJ Maxx a lot buying random stuff that is not clothes. They have a surprisingly good home goods section. I have bought a lot of kitchen stuff from frying pans to spatulas here. I have also bought candles and other junk here as well. For other manly items, they do have a pretty decent socks and undies section. From what I have heard they have a pretty good women's clothing selection. This is all speculation as I do not wear women's clothes. Checkout is easy as they always have a lot of registers open to get you quickly on your way. read more

Was actually pretty impressed by their selection of designer shoes, clothing, and accessories in a range of sizes. Found a pair of Valentino Rockstuds on sale for $500, Valentino dresses, Herve Leger, Theory, Milly, Kate Spade, etc. as well as designer handbags by Givenchy, Chloe, and others. The home and beauty selections were decent too, with products by Urban Decay and nice candles and other small things. However, I walked in hoping to find some leggings and tights (you know, essentials every woman needs) and could not find a SINGLE pair in the entire store. I even asked and they were just out. I was pretty disappointed by that but would come back to shop clothing and accessories when I'm in the mood. read more

My sister found a black 3/4 outer coat from St. Johns under $200.00 and we found a designer bag under $200.00 that we get compliments almost daily. Pro- So many designer clothes and bags. This is my local TJ maxx. I love having a TJ maxx this close to my apt in case I need something or need to browse.....but.....this one borders ghetto! Not very clean. Not very well stocked. Horrible shopping experience! I've been in retail Several years and I know all these stores shrink protocols so when I go shopping and I experience amateur incompetent security service it's so unbelievable to me . First of all I had my big down northface bubble coat and skully on so I guess "I fit the description" of a shoplifter mind you it was cold in the city that day . I had a near by appointment and wanted to get the majority of my Christmas shopping done so I had my shopping cart full and was shopping around as I was not sure what to buy but I couldn't feel more rushed and uncomfortable in my life . There was a "undercover security guard " a African American male that couldn't be more obvious that he was watching me and following me everywhere and EACH FLOOR I WENT . I kept shopping and paid that fool no mind but then he had the nerve to be standing across from me in a aisle and I slightly turned my back to find him stand right next to me acting like he's fixing clothes ! First of all I saw his name tag / land yard that says tj maxx tucked in his shirt but still kinda showing and he made me feel so uncomfortable and rushed my shopping experience was so unpleasant as I was being harassed for shopping ! I then just go checkout and end up spending $270 . Like teach your security what to actually look out for beside appearance which mind you my coat alone was well over $300 lol so anyways never shopping there again. Ok so the thing is--I hate going to TJ Maxx because it's always so crowded and messy and chaotic. However, they always have what I need. But...I'm usually desperate when I go in there. I.E. Once I needed sock-material thigh-hi's (not nylon ones) and they had them. Today I needed a raincoat because it's going to rain all weekend and I no longer have one that is in good shape and I was able to find one but I was sort of at TJ Maxx's mercy I.e. there only seemed to be two out of five that I tried on that actually fit me and I had to choose between a $50 and a $150 one. Also I was told I couldn't try on jackets in the dressing room which I thought was so bizarre. Everything has security tags. I don't know why this rule exists. The place is too crowded to try things on in front of mirrors. Sigh. On a positive note, the line looks crazy long but moves at a decent pace surprisingly. Very polite staff. It's messy, but that's ok. Staff is not particularly helpful, but it didn't bother me. Found some great deals. A Baggillini bag that cost me $60 in Portland, OR was only $19 here. If you have the time and patience to search for good deals, you'll find them. TJ Maxx is one of my faves. This TJ Maxx is possibly one of the busiest in the city so come here early in the morning if you must. In the heart of midtown this location is overwhelming mid-day. The cue to check out can wrap around three times and is almost impossible to maneuver around the store. That being said this location does have a lot of dog toys, stationary, workout gear and suitcases. So if you are in need of any of these items you're in luck. The store does tend to get messier throughout the day - due to the large number of guests. read more

TJMaxx is one of my all-time favorite stores. I've always enjoyed shopping there and have found many great finds- cosmetics, shoes, lingerie, clothing. I once even found a French Dutch oven for 15 dollars. This TJMaxx, unfortunately, is sub par at best. It is completely disorganized. Clothing is mixed up- and what should have taken me a few minutes to find took me over an hour. Sizes aren't where they should be. There are few choices for business casual and more formal women's pants. There are however, many jeans and and active leggings as well as a reasonable selection of shirts and sweaters. But, perhaps the worst part of shopping at this store is the layout. It is cramped and small. And then, on top of it, the rude fellow customers and disinterested staff had me nearly leave without purchasing anything. The security guard by the front was very sweet. I will be going back to shopping at the TJ Maxx in Union Square, it's the best one in Manhattan. read more

Almost every time I come here - when I'm at the fitting room I explain what I'm taking in an not during my first round of Try ons as I don't prefer to take in the whole bundle at once. Only at this location does this happen: it's as if the person at the fitting room ignores you what you're saying as if your not there. They put the wrong set of the bundle on the go back rack and sometimes don't properly count what's going into the room. Today there was a coherent person there and her colleague took, more so abruptly grabbed, what she was separating out her hand and did just that. On other occasions I had to repeat myself 4 times. It's with different employees not always the same one. One person even accused me of taking more in than was on the ticket a couple years ago with a really accusatory tone and then she realized she was wrong. Customer service at the fitting room is terrible. I get it, the wages are prob low but the least they can do it be pleasant. This has only consistently happened to me at this location. read more

Whoever manages this store deserves a raise. The employees who work here are so kind and pleasant and it really enhances the entire shopping experience. The cashiers always ask me about my day or a fun item I'm purchasing and we have a genuine conversation about life. The guy who manages the line makes the wait less annoying. I am extremely disappointed at the way I was treated at this TJMaxx. I was racially profiled by an ignorant and abrasive Caucasian security guard who seemed to have Strabismus. I walked into the store in search of a pair of winter gloves with my younger sister when the security guard literally walked up behind us and stood there. When we first walked in, the security guard was not in sight. I didn't even notice him walking towards us. I got upset that we had someone literally standing over us and I left. After we left, the security guard walked away to the other side of the store. Now I don't want to make assumptions but my sister and I were both wearing hoodies because our hair was wet and it was cold outside. Could this the reason why we were "closely watched"? Most likely. Is it a valid reason? NO. In fact, it is unacceptable! Little does this guy know that I am a working professional and my dad works for a top NY newspaper. *Yaye I got the first review here!* Wow just went to the grand opening of the TJ Maxx on 57th and 8th... which is right next to my work. This place was a freakin' madhouse. MADHOUSE I TELL YOU. Crazy European women shoving and going after the designer stuff... lines out the wazoo... and stuffed like anchovies in a can. I just had anchovies for lunch so excuse my silly simile. I can't wait for the crowd sensation to die down here because it looks like it will be a very promising location. I did a quick swoop around the main floor upstairs to check out the goods. They have a lovely selection of Valentino shirts and coats available (which I can't afford haha) as well as some gorgeous Versace purses that I desperately want. Also saw some Dolce & Gabbana, Armani plus others I can't recall. Shoe section didn't have much going for it except some Michael Kors suede boots and Coach stuff. Otherwise nada which is usually the case with designer shoes at TJ's. The only thing I spotted desirable at the jewelry counter was the lone Michele watch and Judith Ripka bracelets. Ohh also they had tons of cashmere sweaters there... I need to stock up. I love cashmere in the winter! Hot, stuffy, disorganized (even by TJ standards). I stopped here looking for 1 or 2 new t shirts for a trip I was taking the next day. I wound up walking around for 10 mins without finding a single thing. The AC was either not working or else set laughably low - both unacceptable options in the middle of a heat wave in NYC. I'll pass on this location in the city and stick to the Secaucus one in NJ, which is better organized and more comfortable to shop in. read more

What makes this particular location better/different from the other TJ Maxx-es? 1. MORE designer brands - probably cause of the location/tourist traffic? 2. Extensive handbag collection 3. Name brand skin care products - I got me some Shiseldo products which are way expensive in Sephora and anywhere else. Location-wise, it's perfect for those working around the area. Ya know what? Not too shabby! I was expecting a s#!t show. What I got was, well, cleanliness and order, which is all you can ask for sometimes. A small section of purses and electronic items are housed in a deceptively small space on the 1st floor, but an escalator to the 2nd floor opens up into all of the clothes and wares you'd need! Mens', womens', kids', a surprisingly awesome home wares section, you name it! A bit chaotic, as much stuff had been picked through, but pretty par for course of any other T.J. Maxx I've been to. I was bathing suit hunting, and the selections didn't suck...though, of course, nothing I wanted was in my size. My gripe? They sell almost all of their bikinis in a 2-piece set, security tag linking them together. Even if I found a bikini I wanted in the two different sizes I needed, say, a medium bottom and an XXXXXXXL top...*ahem*...I wouldn't be able to pull a switcheroo. (So much for that cute Michael Kors bikini I wanted. 'Twas not made for the ample-chested...) Still, the dressing rooms were clean and well-lit. The dressing room attendants were as blasé as you'd imagine them to be, however. No surprises there. My favorite lunchtime activity! Going to TJ Maxx is like playing a sport. You have to gear up for the battle over discounted designer wear! Women are ruthless here and will actually block you so that they can go through the entire racks. While I don't mind "working" to get a good deal, others may be put off by the clutter. Clothes everywhere, sometimes on the floor. The shoe section is a mess and there is rarely an open seat to sit down and try anything on. However, the clutter and aggressive crowds are worth the good finds. Avoid lunchtime and afterwork hours. read more

It's a regular TJ Maxx. The first floor is just purses and shades (my favorite parts!) so you have to take the slightly hidden escalators up to see all the other departments. Selection is okay overall - haven't seen anything utterly special or unique here that I haven't seen in other TJ Maxx shops. If the line is crazy long (which it is quite often), buy some jewelry as the line there is much shorter. And you deserve those cute earrings. You know you do. read more

They are currently renovating this location. The first floor is completely blocked off. Everything was moved to the 2nd floor. If you've been here before you know that the 2nd floor was already crowded and now it's home to all the departments and the checkout. It really made shopping overwhelming but I always seem to find great things at this particular location. I hope that when they are done, things will get better. read more

Bad service jewelry department. They are able to charge for some stuffs and others not. Is Christmas Eve. They should not be different between client. I could not pay for some stuffs. This TJ Maxx has one of the best dress selections I've seen. However, otherwise, the store is in a rather small space, and areas like the hair care products are a bit messy. The purses and accessories on the main floor feel like there's a bit more space, however, and they usually have an interesting selection worth trying out. Check out is fast. read more

Random Emeril Lagasse pots and pans, awkward sized jeans with egregious embellishments, and questionable beauty products abound here as if the clearance department of that major department store threw up in this small, two-floor space on 57th & 8th. The first floor is comprised of purses and accessories, while the 2nd floor is comprised of the etcetera. Compared to bigger stores (like the ones on 6th avenue or Columbus), this one really can't compare. I love perusing the home section of any discount store, and this TJ Maxx has a small one. The clothing options (for guys, anyway) are more often hit than miss, as well. The staff are generally apathetic but I haven't encountered anyone rude. I usually stop by this location if I happen to be in the neighborhood, but it isn't somewhere I'd go out of my way to go to. read more

A true way to get a deal in the city. Huge selection of bags, everything from top designers to unheard of nice looking bags to get you though a season. Clothes, they really do have a decent size selection for women and items in every size. Always right on season. Pay attention to the clothes, I have seen several items with small holes from the tags that are places by the store. Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. A love/hate relationship here. They have a decent selection, but the inventory changes quickly. I have learned my lesson, if you find it and want it, get it. In the fall, they really have a large range of boots.
