There are plenty of things to complain about in the world today. But indulge me to complain about BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just know I was faced with a smirk when I asked an employee if I could get by in the small walkway in TJ Max where she was putting away some merchandise. I did get through to my destination around her and decided to go back and give her feedback. I asked if she could have smiled and said "Sure." She was furious with me asking me to stand back (I wasn't so close" and get away from her. When I "formally" complained to one of the managers about Florencia's behavior, the manager told me it was not characteristic of that employee, which had little to do with my experience. She also asked if Florencio had seen me. She certainly heard me and cleared her side of the isle with a huff. Instead of empathizing and telling me she would take care of it, she defended the employee's behavior. I would never tolerate that, even though it may not have been characteristic of her. The other day I went shopping here & picked up a few Cosmetic items. When I went to the front, the cashier was extremely rude, pulled off the price tags listed & said they were put over the "real" price as if I covered it. She was very rude then continued showing her coworkers as if she caught me trying to "steal." It was really uncomfortable & embarrassing because I found the products & obviously didn't tamper with anything. The next day, I even went to the Point Loma location & found the same product for the same price as the "tampered" sticker. I'll never return to this location. Take the wide selection and random finds of Marshalls, throw in the brands Nordstrom would sell, cut down the prices a lot and you'd get TJ Maxx: a clean discount merchandiser focusing mainly on clothing, with loads of finds for women. Our honest hero was stopped by a young store associate before entering the dressing rooms, who looked over his goods he was about to try on and gave him a plastic tag to hold stating that he had 3 men's items with him. Imagine how awkward this experience could be for cross-dressers. As our hero left the dressing room after trying on his potential purchases, he returned the plastic tag with the number "3" on it to the associate and remarked, "Look, I didn't steal any clothes." After our hero accomplished attaining au courant apparel, he overheard the following amusing anecdote from one of the cashiers: "I don't know why we cut prices down so much and mark stuff down after they're returned. There's some people that just go around to our store to find stuff they can buy and resell. One time, a man came in and bought 20 Chargers jerseys to resell on eBay." Hell yeah, the prices are that reasonable! PROS: - Awesome selection of recognizable name brands like Element, Billabong, Puma, DKNY, Nautica and more for 20%-75% off regular prices. - A wide selection of women's clothes. This store is definitely a big hit with the ladies scouring for bargains. - Very well organized. All the sizes were well grouped together on the racks and clothes were easy to find. TJ Maxx is such a chick store. Then again, I am a chick. This store was just like the Ross in Mission Valley except it had less screeching children playing hide and seek in the aisles. The name TJ Maxx instantly reminded me of the show TJ Hooker as I was secretly hoping to run into William Shatner upon entering the store. I was saddened by the harsh reality that William Shatner would probably never shop at TJ Maxx. This store does have some good deals on some high quality stuff. I saw many well made t-shirts in here. I have to say that the majority of mens clothes in here looked like something a first time dad would wear. Now I'm not knocking first time dads, I'm just saying that this store sells the kind of clothes that I've seen first time dads wear. read more

I've always been more of a Marshall's devotee but after a short stint in Virginia with a TJ Maxx in very close proximity, I have added this store to my rotation. The only problem is that it can be really hit and miss. I am not always impressed with the inventory, organization, or cleanliness of a TJ Maxx. I also find that I have to invest a little more time looking for the "good" buy, but I've gotten lucky enough times that I think it's worth it. read more

This was my first time to TJ Maxx and was not impressed with the store (very messy, like Ross). We bought one thing and waited, there was quite a line for a Sunday afternoon with only two people cashiering. The "manager" just stood in the back and said another cashier will be here soon but that is all the help we have (she said they got rid of the other employees after the holidays). I love this store. Not only are the hours later than most discount department stores (and therefore girlfriends and I can shop after dining out), but everything is SO CHEAP and good quality. I get designer bags at a price that your average person can afford, and amazing shoes like Easy Spirit and Clarks. I also like the quietness and organization of the store, compared to Marshalls and Ross, which always seem to be disorganized with half their merchandise in the wrong place or on the floor, and filled with loud families snatching up "deals." I'm a 2x/ 3x lady, so the clothes choices can be iffy, depending on the latest shipment, but I've found good deals there. Check out their housewares, too. Gorgeous stuff. On the down side, everything is in tiny qualities. Think of TJ Maxx as "Small Lots" for the sophisticated buyer. read more

They're also cleaner, more organized and the staff is friendlier and more knowledgeable. I believe they're affiliated with Marshalls, however, the prices appear to be lower at TJ Maxx. One my favorite shopping spots! I usually attack the front racks as they have the best of their merchandise displayed. For me it is a place to shop for everyday and work casual tops, bottoms and dresses (French Connection, Free People and others). Their underwear section will often have great finds (like Calvin Klein, etc.) if you sift through numerous racks. I like their socks too- good colorful selection and great prices. The person in the fitting room doesn't like her job and I don't blame her. You can only take 8 items with you and nobody cares to check on you but I mind that in their case. You also have to put them back on the racks (yes you're not in Bloomies don't forget!) as they will count you out at the end. I recently discovered their home goods section and found some great looking pillows and fake flowers. They were very cheap but they don't look that way! The same with their bedding, dining rooms chairs, table lamps, towels etc. I never had problems returning anything here- always great customer service at their cash wrap. read more

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEE discount stores, and the Clairemont store would be the closest TJ Maxx to my home. I go here all the time - like when I'm just bored. I like that they have later hours, and as any girl would agree, I like that they have discounted brand-name stuff. My dad is CONVINCED that TJ Maxx is a knock-offs store, but of course it's not. I have found some great Steve Madden purses, the most chic picture frames, and expensive shampoos and skin care products that you would never find for such a good price elsewhere. Considering the fact that I come here probably once of week, I can say that they are getting new stuff all the time. I've been coming to this TJ maxx for over 10 years plus. today I finally had some money to shop and wanted to have a nice day shopping. I've had my budget and was shopping smart. debating over several items, I've decided to buy them and proceeded to the register. the unfriendly staff claims the items were improperly tagged and she KNOWS because it's her department.. after "fixing" the total comes to 20+$, I told her she needs to have that department under control because that's ridiculuous. My first time here was yesterday with my boyfriend. Our agenda: Sprucing up our home together on a budget. A lot of neat things you can find cheaper here than at home decor stores. I bought a lot of candles for probably less than half the price I would find them at Target (I would know cause I went to Target afterward). Not too sure about the clothes/shoes, didn't get into that part of the store... but overall, it was organized and clean. I'd definitely shop here again! I normally hate stores like Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, Marshall's, and TJ Maxx, but this particular store was a gem. I went on a Saturday afternoon so it was busy but it didn't feel that crowded. I only wait straight to the beauty section. I'm one of those weirdos who only wears deodorant and not antiperspirant deodorant which is 95% of the products out there for armpits. This location had a huge section of what I was looking for. I bought a few all natural deodorants for less than $4 each. It's not a huge savings since you could probably buy them for maybe a buck more, but the fact that they had many to choose from was great. They also have other all natural beauty products that I snatched up like foaming facial cleanser for $3 and a good size thing of massage oil also for $3. I also got a number of makeup items all under $5 each. Keep in mind many of the beauty products I bought were brands that no one really knows of. I Googled 2 of the brands and they didn't even have a website lol. I just found the distributor's website. Also not all the products are cheaper here. Some of the deodorants are cheaper at Target along with a cleanser that I bought that was a lot more expensive at TJ Maxx (will return when I'm near a TJ Maxx). What shocked me here was also how quickly the line moved (again this was a Saturday before Easter). read more
