Food is pretty good and it's cheap. Small place that gets very crowded. Good luck trying to find a parking spot. Service is usually good and food comes out fast. Went here with a friend and was surprised how fast the food came out; it was almost too fast. My friend ordered two eggs two sausage links and two pancakes but when they gave it to him it only had one sausage link and it looked undercooked. I also couldn't help but overhear another customer complain about the temperature of their food. The atmosphere is pretty chill; no music or anything playing. The servers are friendly and they're a little short staffed but I think they could really step up their game. I'm hoping the cooks will continue to strive for excellence for the customer's sake and the success of the business. read more

Don't let the exterior scare you away. We tried TJ's for breakfast and the food was great. Within our group we had 2 breakfast specials, pancakes/bacon and biscuts&gravy. My son loved his pancakes and thought they were the best he's ever eaten. Specials were great and a ton of food. Gravy was decent but biscuits were crumbling and flat. We sat right down in the back where seating was completely open. Obviously, we were first timers. The open back section was freezing! So, sit in the front or bring a sweatshirt but either way give it a try! read more

T.J.'s Café has been around a long time and it's a great little diner for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to try their Gunslinger pepper sauce.

Great place to eat, they have foods that no other eatery has. I just wish they were open on Holidays, we never eat at home since all the kids are grown and moved away from the area. read more

This is no corporate chain restaurant. Have you ever ate at a greasy spoon? Ever even heard the term? I have. I have ate at greasy spoons in tiny towns in the Arkansas hills, and I liked it. I loved it. Keep that term firmly in mind as you enter TJs as It is the complete definition of the term. If you are turned off by terms like water stains, carpet stains, unisex toilets, second hand smoke (non smoking now) then you better go get robbed at IHOP up the street. This shops forte is the specials, they are written on dry erase boards posted on the east and west walls. Only total neophytes will use the menus. The specials repeat week after week. monday will always have meatloaf among the specials. Tuesday always have tacos. The weekend has the same theme, all weekends have the same specials Sunday and Saturday. The difference is there are no mashed potatoes or french fries on the weekend. If you have not been there before the waitresses will be honest if you ask them their opinion, as there are some things not as good as others. I have had literally everything on the menu. Most of them a dozen times. The only drawback I can say tempers my enthusiasm for TJs is that the prices have gone up in the last few years. Also the pies are no longer made on site. I still give them 5 out of 5 because i think they offer great food and outstanding value if you pick wisely, if you don't pay attention you could get bit at the register. Be aware is all I'm saying, the waitresses will try to steer you into the cheapest options if you want to pig out. That is the real reason for 5 stars. the staff. They have had most of this staff for at least 10 years, that should speak volumes to any restaurant coniseur. The TLDR pancakes, bacon and eggs. syrup on it all! read more

5 stars because they accomplish exactly what they should. Old school home town diner. Great service. Not pretentious or artificial. Full breakfast in a fraction of the time I spent at the Eggtc on the Plaza yesterday, at a fraction of the price. Very clean. Very efficient. Seems like everyone eating there felt like family. And I felt just as welcome my first time there today. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Glad to know there's a place to count on in Grandview. read more

We were actually really excited to try this place. Who doesn't love a café that serves breakfast. I would love to just say it was a bad server but it was the most bizarre experience I've had anywhere. Our server was apparently new. She didn't know that you could not make substitutions for the hashbrowns but told us we could substitute any side item but that bacon would be an upcharge. Makes sense. We both made substitutions but were then charged for the items. When we asked the server about the charges we then watched her take a lecture from the manager who then proceeded to argue with us about the charges. She was extremely combative and unprofessional and even asked me what I do for a living to make a case as to why we should pay the extra $6 in charges. She removed the charge for the mashed potatoes but would not remove the bacon charge. Her attitude and behavior was simply shocking. Not to mention the chicken fried steak was raw in the middle. But I didn't want to complain and chose just to not eat it. I should have had her remove that charge. Instead I choose to never go back. It took hours to not feel offended and really ruined a nice evening out for dinner. read more

FOOD POISONING!!This sucks that Im writing a bad review. I just discovered this place and have eaten there 3 times within a week. Last night I ate dinner around 4:30 pm with my daughter. I ordered a Salisbury steak but it was ubdercooked. It cane with a salad. I ate the entire salad. While i was waiting on my new order I ate half od my daughters buger and boxed up the steak dinner. Now its been 10 hrs and I cant stop vomiting. All I ate was pb and jelly and this. When I called to inform them that their food made me sick they were EXTREMELY RUDE and told ne it take 24hrs for food poisoning to kick in. Foolish ppl 8 hrs minimum. I aske dfor the owner, he refused to speak and then they hung up on me. I called back and the lady hung up on me again. This place is not as friendly as they appear to be. Im extremely disappointed and saddened by the out come. I feel my community should be AWARE. read more

Went for dinner tonight and while the food was good, our waitress was really less than stellar. Started out with one person who took our drink order but didn't bring menus. Another brought our drinks along with menus and immediately asked if we were ready to order. Said no since we just received the menu, and the server walked off in a big huff. Finally after waiting then 20 minutes to get their attention, our order was taken. Served quickly and the food was great. We weren't offered dessert and the bill was slapped down on the table. We weren't even asked if our meal was to our liking. I will return but I'll be very careful to choose my server if I can. Unfortunate evening because I do enjoy this place. read more

Well, this would be a 5 star except one little thing. The food is good just a homestyle type meal for reasonable prices. The service was acceptable. I was completely happy with my experience until i got home and checked my bank balance. I paid with my card but left a cash tip, so naturally we write the amount of the bill in and drew a line through the tip part of the receipt. When i check my balance i find out someone wrote in there own tip on my card along with the cash i left. Now it wasnt a heart stopping amount of money but it was still theft so i call to speak to a manager about this and they REFUSE to let me speak to anyone so now im headed back up there with my copy of the receipt and my bank statement to try and get this resolved. I won't be going there again since i don't deal with thieves. To bad since like i said i enjoyed my experience other wise. read more

I've never experienced any issues with TJ's Café in Grandview, MO until yesterday 9/24/2017 when I ordered $40 worth of food To-Go. I got home took 3 bites of the hash browns, then took 2 bites of the omelet. The second bite I had a mouth full of slimy, raw egg. I called them back and told them, the girl who answered, Angelina (far cry from Angel with her attitude out of this world) very rudely said "bring it back up here" then hung up in my face. Once there, she (Angelina) ripped the bag out of my hand & throws it on a chair behind her and said I will have them remake it for you. I simply said "after having a mouthful of slimy, raw egg I no longer want to eat anything, could I have my money back instead?" she continuously yelled at me that she couldn't give me a refund because she didn't know how (while slamming down a stapler, pen & papers on the desk a foot away from my face with several other customers right behind me waiting to pay) She stomps away and comes back two minutes later yelling "THE OWNER SAID TO REFUND YOU HALF BECAUSE IT'S HALF EATEN" The food was far from half eaten and I told her that. She rips the bag off the chair takes it to the kitchen counter where she slams it down, rips it open and while wavy her arms around like a crazy person screams "HALF EATEN IT's HALF EATEN" I assure you three bites of hash browns and two bites of omelet if far from half eaten. I took the lousy half of the refund and asked when the owner will be back so I can get the remainder of my refund back, she yells with an attitude "IT DOESN'T MATTER HE WON'T GIVE YOU ANYTHING ELSE I GUARANTEE IT" All of this happened in front of my 8 year old daughter who was frightened by the whole situation. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life. Everyone in the entire restaurant heard her yelling at me. I've known the owner Jim Sadler since I was 2 years old & have been going to TJ's & Reece's (which he also previously owned) for 30 years now. We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars there throughout the past 30 years. One would have thought surely if I discussed with him how disrespected I was by his employee & how I was served raw food he would be compassionate and apologize at the very least and perhaps offer to make good of the whole situation. NOT!!! When I went in today he had an attitude just as bad as his employee, called me a liar to my face, said the omelet was not raw, there was nothing wrong with it and he was not going to refund me back the rest of my money nor do anything else about it, then proceeds to rudely and sarcastically say "I'm sorry if you got your feeling hurt" REALLY!? And calling me a liar! Actually his employee Angelina is the liar, when I picked up my food, she said "I've got everything you need in the bag for you, ketchup, jelly, butter, syrup and silverware" none of it was in the bag except silverware. Other minor details that I wasn't concerned about and didn't even mention when returning the omelet nor to the owner.....the omelet box had a hole burned in it where something had melted the Styrofoam into the hash browns and omelet, the box the toast was in was all mangled, busted open with a crack across the whole top and would not even closed. Everything had been tossed into the bag every which way and both bags and all the boxes inside the bags were covered in grease. Also the pancakes for my kids that they refused to eat were horrible, couldn't even pick one up without it crumbling apart in your hand, not to mention they came with no butter nor syrup and the kids said they tasted salty. I'm completely applaud the owner, Jim couldn't care less about customer service, respecting and appreciating their customers, nor how his employees disrespect customers at his establishment. Last time I checked the customers are the reason you're in business! They will never get another dime of my money. I strongly advise to not eat here unless you want utter disrespect and poor customer service. read more
