We've been super happy with Toki since the Waverly location opened! I love the chicken steam buns. My partner and I have tried all of the ramen options, without any disappointments. Took 3 of my friends who had never been and I had talked a lot about this place. Had a 7pm reservation didn't get sat until close to 7:20. Our server was mia most of service. We only were able to order one round of drinks. But when taking our order I chose the curry ramen to which he said oh the original and I corrected him and said no the curry then showed him it on the menu repeated it back to him which he repeated back so I thought it was okay. Luckily I got my friend to order and egg on the side bc when the food runner came he just started putting dishes down as announcing them not giving us a chance to put them with the proper guest and to no surprise server rushes over when the food runner tries to hand me the "original" or "house ramen" to which I said is this the original that was supposed to be the curry. Server grabbed it no apology. Had to wait another 10-15 mins while everyone else enjoyed their dishes. My ramen must have been rushed bc it came out luke warm at best. Very disappointing honestly. The restaurant is cute but for lack of service or care I can grab ramen from ramen utsuke, eiji, or kajiken next time. read more

I came here for a Yelp elite event and was astounded at how good this place was. I've been itching to get back here so I could leave a proper review to let the world know how good the ramen is here and it finally happened! So from the beginning, the location is a little sketch. I used to live a few blocks away so I wasn't that sketched out, but I can see other people who are not from the area being reluctant to park their cars on the street, or walk far in this neighborhood. In fact, our friends who met us there took an Uber. There is a parking lot on the corner of the block though and I've parked both on Greenmount Ave and across the street on Ilchester without issues. When you walk in, you can immediately see how hip this place is! There's toys in the showcase and skateboards on the ceiling, not exactly your typical ramen joint. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We sat in the covered space outside. It is a bit quieter out there and they have heaters set up. It's very cute. And now for the main event, the food. We got the pork belly bao buns and toki wings as appetizers and various types of ramen for our meals. Everything was top notch! The toki wings are so flavorful and crispy but saucy, while still moist on the inside, so good! The pork belly buns came as a plate to construct your own. The sauce is my favorite part. It compliments the crisp of the pork belly so nicely. I have tried both the toki classic ramen and the spicy ramen, but this time I got the Tapei curry ramen. The flavor was excellent, but what I really want to point out about all of their ramens is the texture of the broth. It's thick and hearty, but not like a stew, definitely still a broth, but just chock full of proteins and fats and bursting with umami flavor. This is how ramen is supposed to be. I think they use the same tonkotsu base for all of their ramens and then add the spices so every ramen I've had here has had that same mouth feel and I am here for it! I tried their soupless ramen and my husband had the toki classic, plus pork buns, karaage, and cold tofu. Yes, we're voracious when the food is delicious. You know what else I love about this place? Had a great overall experience at both DC and now Baltimore locations. The vibe is great for either a group or solo setting. Service was quick and friendly. Ramen was as good as usual but the Shiitake Yaki appetizer was the surprise hit of the meal. Will be back to explore the menu more. read more

The food is phenomenal! I've had most of the menu and hands down the curry chicken ramen is my ultimate favorite. The service is always great. We bring our 4 year old with us and always feel welcome. We had some great cocktails and excellent food, including several starters (dumplings, steamed buns) and a couple of different styles of ramen, but apparently they are still working out some kinks because after waiting about an hour and 15 minutes for our ramen, when I'd seen several other tables get their food who had come in after us, I finally asked what was going on with our order and we were told it had been misplaced and that they will get it to us ASAP. We ended up being there 2 hours for the meal with a lot of time spent waiting after the starters came out, which we weren't too psyched about. The server apologized, but we ended up paying full price plus a mandatory 18% service charge, which was a pretty hefty check for 2 bowls of ramen, drinks, and starters. read more

We there opening nught and went back tonight. Food is delicious and delicious different tastes than other local Ramen places. Liked their dumpling, corn, and pork bun a lot. My wife and I had the curry noodles with fried chicken. Excellent. They are still trying to get their got their groove on, and it still takes while to get food served when they are very busy, but it is well worth the wait..We went their a week after opening. Toki is the best ramen I have ever had. I fell in love with them many years ago when they opened the first restaurant on H Street and was excited to hear that they were opening a second location in Baltimore. The ramen in Valtinore has the same great flavor as in DC. The Baltimore location is bigger, but it does have the same vibe as the smaller DC location. But it is still one of my favorite places to eat, and it's the only place for ramen. read more

We've been waiting to visit Toki Underground since it opened and having our closest friends come into town was the perfect chance. Shelby was great! She took care of our large party and kept good food coming! The pork belly and chicken bao buns were amazing and our steamy bowls of noodles and ramen, were empty at the end of the night. We're big fans of the decor and art and enjoyed being in the "outdoor-indoor" space. We had a blast and will be back again! read more

i really like the interior and the service was great! i ordered the vegan ramen which tasted good, however, the noodles were undercooked and parts of the trumpet mushroom were still raw... the tofu in the ramen was also soggy as soon as it arrived and the tofu just slid out of the jelly-like coating. the greens were quite bland and tough which makes me think they were also undercooked. we also ordered the fried chicken steamed buns which tasted okay but the chicken was cold/room temp. read more

Really glad I finally made it out there. The decor was super fun, has a well crafted vibe and menu. Their classic ramen with some added spice was super tasty, also tried the wings which where relatively lightly battered in corn starch and super crispy! Had the Taipei curry chicken ramen and my son had the chicken Mazeman. My ramen was decent however my son was underwhelmed by the chicken Mazeman and thankfully he wasn't very hungry because it was a very small portion. I didn't realize until I got home that they had charged me a mandatory 18% service charge. I couldn't see very well in the restaurant as the sun was very bright and I therefore left an additional 20% tip. Had I known about this service charge, I wouldn't have tipped so much. Two dishes, a beer and a 4 oz sake landed me a bill of $78 (with my tip). To make a reservation you have to leave your credit card info. And this place is not in the safest of areas. Given the underwhelming food, service fee that was not communicated and location, I could find ramen just as decent in a safer part of Baltimore. read more

What a joyous experience. Friends invited my wife and I to celebrate our recent retirements. It was a Sunday evening, so it wasn't too crowded. Our waiter was extremely patient and charming. He took his time to explain our choices in detail and described the essence of each dish that highlighted its pallette pleasing elements. Superb!!! We started off with drinks. My wife doesn't drink, but they had an asian sasparilla that is kind of unique I guess. I had a cocktail called a Honoki Mori. Cedar-infused gin and tonic mixer that was fabulously light and aromatic. Yum. Appetizers were seaweed and cucmber salad (divine), brussel sprouts ( can't recommend those enough), and some pretty good veggie dumplings. The sauce for the dumplings hit the right note. Well that was just the start of things. I had the Dan Dan Noodles for my entree with the fried chicken add on. It was creamy and succulent with some crunchy veges and cashews that just put it over the top. My wife had the japanese curry ramen. Wow! The broth was deep and rich and full of flavor without being over seasoned. To top off the meal we shared the japanese flan with caramel sauce and topped with candied walnuts. I was worried that it would be too sweet. Not in the least. It was a remarkable finish to an amazing meal. We also got a little entertainment to add to the stark ambience. There was an electric guitar duo that played what can best be described as mood instrumental music that helped transpot us to another country and place in a foreign land. The food was GREAT. However, the manager there clearly made all her employees miserable and made us very uncomfortable. We arrived for our res on time, walked inside to who I'm assuming is the manager and one of the FOH staff blocking the doorway. The manager then tell us, "you need to wait outside I'm dealing with something". We wait outside, she locks the door and proceeds to yell at her FOH staff for a good 5 minutes. When she was done, she unlocked the door and walked away. No apology or anything. FOH staff was very nice walked us to our table and there's the manager cutting us off almost pushing my wife out of the way for no particular reason. You can sense how uncomfortable the staff was cause they were just doing busy work the whole time when it wasn't necessary. The manager and staff also seemed very attentive to one person who I can assume is ether a photographer or influencer the whole time. Way to gloss over the other patrons. Otherwise, Toki classic was an excellent balance of flavors, dumplings cooked perfectly, and Yuzu gose was crushable. If the food wasn't great we wouldn't go back again. read more
