Came here for lunch with my family and it was really good! They have a very good lunch special and lots to choose from. I'll start off by explaining the customer service, which was beyond phenomenal. Julian our server was very friendly and kind. Super pleasant person, everything we wanted, which was a lot haha he did not complain. The orders was correct and he was satisfying. Our cook PILOY was the bomb, this man knows how to cook with sense of humor and good techniques. Nonetheless, the food was prepared perfect. My salmon, shrimp, and veggies were on point. I ordered the seafood lunch special, shrimp and salmon. With salad at my side. Also, for my drink a glass of moscato that was just right. The decor is super cute and very modern, very different for a open grill restaurant. I like the velvet chairs, restrooms doors, and the bar area. They also have a seating area for sushi. Overall, this place is good. Better than Benihana's, and popular known open grill. I will be back and hope to get the same service and I make sure you definitely ask for PILOY as you cook if you can. Came to lunch with 9 friends on Thurs Jan 15th. Had the shrimp and scallops lunch combo. The scallops were cut in half or thirds and the shrimp were cut in tiny pieces so small you couldn't tell it was a shrimp. Also, over cooked. For $27, unacceptable. The service was fast & attentive on a Sunday! We made reservations for 5pm however, it wasn't very packed at this time. They close at 3pm then open again at 5pm. The dinner service came with onion soup & a yummy salad (not pictured) Japanese Tofu Delight 8/10: the tofu was yummy, but definitely would have wanted it a bit more crispy. The seasoned veggies were delicious, but a bit too heavy on the butter for me Vegetarian noodles 8/10: so much food!! So yummy, but a again a bit heavy on the butter The ambiance is Instagram worthy with cherry blossoms on the ceiling which make a beautiful aesthetic It was incredibly hot outside & unfortunately where we sat near the door, was very hot as well which made us unable to eat comfortably. Pleasantly surprised by this place! From the outside it does not look special and for many years we overlooked this place but inside the ambience was modern and trendy. It looked like it was recently renovated and the owner did a great job. It is tepanyaki style seating but there is an option to sit at the sushi bar. There is also a separated area that had a full service bar. We opted to sit at the sushi bar just because we did not feel like having tepanyaki. The sushi chef was so friendly and hospitable! We ordered the vegetable tempura to start and they were fried to order with this light thin crispy batter and light dipping sauce. I ordered a roll that had baked salmon around my roll and then it was topped with scallops and langostinos... the rice ratio to the sushi was perfect ! There was plenty of fish and the sauce was perfectly balanced ! It was very filling and satisfying! My husband ordered the veggie roll and asked if he could add cream cheese and the sushi chef did. He even suggested other options that he could make to please his palate. The chicken yakisoba was perfectly seasoned and delicious. It was a big portion that came with miso soup and salad ! My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant and I'm so glad we did. The ambiance is very appealing and traditionally Japanese. The service was amazing, they were kind and came around before we even needed them. The food was delicious and great for the value. The dumplings and calamari rings were very good, the spicy pechanga roll was one of the best sushi rolls I've had, the spicy garlic edamame was okay not my favorite, the fried rice and the ribeye were greaaaaat. Must eat here! Robert and Antonio were AMAZING. Robert was so attentive, even when my water would get low, I turn around and BAM it was refilled. Very sweet guy! Antonio was our hibachi master and he was HILARIOUS. Made us all laugh. We had a shy kid at our table area and he was so kind to her. Food was so good. Drinks were too. A great teppanyaki spot in the i.e. This hidden gem is worth a visit to satisfy your teppanyaki mood. They've been around for many years, and updated ambiance. Great mood and layout. Clean clean clean. They have a nice bar setup and a sushi bar in the back. We had the sushi platter, all fresh. The teppanyaki was a lot of fun, the kids had a blast. Quite busy for Saturday lunch (opened at 11:30 am) when we got in. Servers were excellent (even though short staffed). Just friendly all around. read more

Tokyo kitchen was a special treat for my birthday. I read the reviews and chose it for its proximity to my parents house. The prices were steep! I don't think it was worth it honestly. I've been to different teppanyaki eateries. I've never had one where they serve bean sprouts , mushrooms and zucchini for grilled veggies. I like them but my entire family does not eat Mushrooms nor bean sprouts. That was an odd choice. The dip for the meat and veggies were like mayo or ponzu dance. The mayo type sauce was not so good. Overall, I would not come back on just the price alone. I think you're paying for "show" which was only a juggling act at the beginning and the onion for Lava but then it's all cooking. The decor was nice but that was it. I recommend Kishi in Upland. Cheaper in price. read more

I have lived 5min items away from here for 6years and luckily stumbled upon this gem. We came during lunch and it was great. Robert our waiter was phenomenal. Our daughter spilled her soup and he quickly cleaned everything and brought a new soup. He was soo attentive and very accommodating. He brought extra tofu for my son and didn't even charge us extra. This place is way better than Benihanas! Will definitely come back again. There are a lot of regulars here and we will soon be one of them! The food was amazing. I shared a two person meal with my mom and friend. It was plenty of food for us. We even had a leftovers. I ordered a strawberry margarita and it was the best. Today, 6/29, I had the honor of spending my 57th birthday at TK. Great food and service, exceptional. Only thing I noticed, it was very hot and stuffy while we waited for our chef to prepare our (6) meals, which was also very long. It was very unfortunate because the food was amazing. Unfortunately, the experience of feeling overheated was not good. At one point, our waiter said it was also hot and indicated he would make mention? I wish I could have given a better review but sadly tonight was another AWFUL experience. I came to celebrate my graduation. Instead I waited over 2 hours at the table for a chef to arrive after our order was taken and still NO FOOD. A party of people arrived hours after my party was sitting and were attended promptly by a chef. A hidden gem in Montclair is how I would describe this place!!! First timer & definitely will be coming back!!! The place outside looks a bit sketch but when you walk in it's another world, very beautiful & clean space. Loved all of the decor & vibe. I had reservation for a surprised birthday dinner! I had to find out from Tokyo Kitchen IG stories that they will be closed! No one contacted me nor received an email that my reservation is cancel or any cancellation notice! I had to messaged them to find out! So unprofessional! Everyone that runs a restaurant knows the first 2 things is Customer Service & GOoD FOOD! Common courtesy & common sense it's not so common! Service with no service can drive away 70% of potential customers! And for this no contact cancellation I will not be going or ever attempt to go to this place. There is so many other restaurants with the same concept that have way better service with organization and common courtesy if there is any event charge or changes to contact the customer! To the owner/manger how would it feel if a worker is schedule to work and the worker decided to just don't show up (No Show No Call)!? ViceVersa: imagined I showed up to find out the restaurant is close without any notice! Bad review can cost a business up to 30 customers, and negative reviews on can drive away 70% of potential customers. More than ever before, businesses need to be accountable to their customers and the general public.
