Tokyo Sushi continues to be a household sushi bar here in Reno, NV. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the rolls may not always be consistent which is why I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars instead but the rolls here are delicious and packed with that umami. The staff is attentive to your needs and the rolls come fairly quick, I also have appreciated the warmth that the place feels instead of a brightly lit sushi bar it feels cozy inside. Denny's meets sushi Very loud a lots of people having to raise their vices to be heard American beat on the radio It's a " make a check mark on a paper sushi place. And it wasn't as warm as other places. It was cold by the time I finished. And I rushed the saki drinking. "Wasabi" squeezed out of a tube.. my seaweed was basic. This place caters to volume. Look ya'll know I don't TRY TO BE A JERK ON HERE, IT TAKES A LOT FOR ME TO BE PUSHED, BUT...... Went for lunch today. Beautiful establishment. Food came out fairly quickly. Service however, left a lot to be desired. The manger was extremely unprofessional and down right rude! We found a baby crab in our mussels, not just once but multiple times on the same plate. I realize that this can be a common occurance, however if you look at the picture, it looks like there is MUCH more going on within my food than there should be. The manger's answer to accomodating our party of 4 was oh I will give you a discount of 30% off of 1 order. We literally hadn't even been brought ANY ROLLS yet. Hubby has been wanting to try this sushi restaurant for a while. This morning my kid talked us into going for lunch. Hands down my new favorite sushi place. Sat down at the bar right away. Place is very large and has a wrapped bar so plenty of seating. Every appetizer was great, every roll was awesome. Even at the bar you order on a sheet like at a table and it comes to you at once. That was probably my only negative as with three people it's hard to get the things you ordered off a plate far away from you. I tried the Carson city roll, Sierra roll and the Donald Duck nigiri. Happy to say I understand now why Tokyo Sushi is one of my daughters favs. Everything was super tasty but the real standout? The mussels! The muscles were absolutely incredible--perfectly cooked, tender, and topped with the most delicious, savory sauce that had just the right balance of richness and taste to make mouth go berserk! I needed to update my review since my last visit. My experience this time was horrible!! We took guests from out of town to this place which we've never had issues with, but this time they refused to allow my out of town guest that has food allergies to order al a carte as well as my son who only wanted 1 roll. They demanded that everyone at the table pay $32.95 for all u can eat or no one could get all u can eat. So out of 7 of us 5 were doing AYCE and 2 solo (my son & friend with allergies) when speaking to the manager he was smug and just as unreasonable stating they posted this policy on their door..This was never a problem many times before. This restaurant has no customer service courtesy whatsoever, so my friend and son had to sit starving while we ate our meal bc by this time everywhere else would've been closing. So I asked if I could order something to go for my son who was hungry, once they allowed me to they dragged out bringing it to us after an hour and a half I asked where his food was they said upfront and we can get it when we leave.... Since I was paying for it I demanded they give us our to go food so my son could eat and they responded with an attitude he can't eat it at the table and made him eat it outside... on top of all this half way through his meal he discovered a bug in his food which when I brought it to the attention of the waiter simply asked if we wanted a new serving of the food that had bugs in it!!! Are u kidding me!!! Why would I want any more of your food that had bugs and that was served with an attitude to a child that you made eat outside!!! Management needs a lesson on business and customer service bc this was one of thee worst I've seen in a while. If you're going to a sushi place in the Reno area DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!! There are plenty of other great spots to choose from. Shame on you Tokyo sushi for treating Reno residents with such disrespect. Everyone was so kind and fast as soon as we were seated. Prompt with beverages, apps, and the check. Ambiance: So fun! Great service for a large group! Our party of 9 was seated quickly and the staff kept our drinks refilled and they are attentive. While the menu was a little light on non-seafood options (besides the 3 veggie rolls I enjoyed, which were flavorful!), they were happy to bring extra teriyaki and sriracha sauce on the side for an extra kick. Some of our favorites: appetizers: - house salad: really yummy light but creamy peanut dressing - tempura mix: super freshly made, we ordered 3! - cucumber/seaweed salad: also solid options, small bowls - baked mussel: 2 pieces very good sauce Rolls: 10 pieces but very small size, great for sharing! - oishi roll: if you like baked salmon rolls - black angel: very unique roll really yummy - hot bae: if you like spicy, yellowtail, salmon (all my favs) this is the one! Nigiri: - we got salmon, yellowtail, scallop all were fresh - the special ones like mickey mouse, donald duck, duffy were fun and delicious Dessert: we tried green tea ice cream (recommend! Thick & creamy), banana tempura (looks like a whole sundae!), coffee and mango mochi were all yummy! Ambiance is nice with lamps and good booths to sit in. Don't know what happened, but this place took a nosedive to mediocre at best. The sushi, all I normally order anyways, is paper thin with a humongous hunk of rice. The fish was not especially fresh due to have all that thinly pre sliced fish. I was charged extra because of the huge chunks of rice that was leftover, it is on the menu that diners will be charged for food waste if they don't eat all the extra sushi and rice. I so happened to be charged an extra 15.98 or more than half of the ayce menu price. I can't believe they have the audacity to charge due to the way the way they make their sushi with a paper thin fish and such a huge waste of rice which they purposely presented to cause the issue if food waste. By now you can figure out that I will not patronize such a underhanded way of charging people due to their unscrupulous method of making sushi. read more

You can go wrong with Tokyo sushi since this is one of the best sushi spots in Reno. The spicy pepper roll is amazing. All the appetizers are great specially the mussels, jalapeño poppers, and Yakiton. The miso soup here is probably one of the best ones in Reno. From Monday through Thursday, you can get free sake included with AYCE. Personally, one of my favorite roles from Tokyo sushi is the Hot Bae. Ever since I moved to Reno back in 2017, this has been my number 2 spot. Service is always on point, fully staffed for timely service. The horrible service started at the door no one greeted us and there were 2 lines and me and the people in front of us didn't know where to stand, so we put our names in the iPad and sat down, then a couple came in after us and was seated immediately. The the server was curt and unfriendly and notified us that you can only order: EITHER all u can eat OR al la cart if you're sitting at the same table. This is the most rediculous policy I've ever heard of. The green tea tasted like dirty dish water and once we order we never saw our waiter again and had to flag someone down. The ginger was dry, and the mussels were like warm, obviously not made to order. I haven't had this bad of service and food in a loooong time. Tokyo Sushi is stop number 2 on you AYCE sushi Bracket and it is already a pretty strong contender. AYCE dinner is 32.95 + tax and tip and includes bottomless sake. The sake is warm and pretty tasty. A nice touch given that sake is not a given with AYCE. They had a special of huckleberry ice cream too, unfortunately I was stuffed. We ordered 8 long rolls, 4 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, and 3 apps for 3 people and we had to cancel our 8th roll! Tokyo sushi has a lot of great variety and creativity without becoming overly dependent on cream cheese, "crunch", and fruit which makes it an instant stand out to me. Nigiri - All of the nigiri were flawless. A real treat that makes you feel confident in the piles of raw fish you're funneling down your gullet. Mussels- the baked were incredible but the raw were not. Miso- a solid miso. Good miso-ness. Rolls- I was surprised I actually like the Hawaii but roll, it wasn't my favorite but I liked it. The boyf loved the Daffy Duck nigiri and the Sierra, and Judge 3 loved the Mt Fuji. I'm a simple girl with simple tastes so the spicy tuna was my fave per usual but the Black Angel was a next level experience. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a seat on a Thursday at 7 but we just used that time to pick out our sushi. The space is great, particularly the booths! Service could be a little bit more attentive, I was out of water for 20 min, but it's quick on the sushi. read more

We've been trying to order to finish up and get our desserts for 30 minutes and we've asked 4 people of the wait staff to help us out and 2 have pretended to not know English and two others have walked away from us when we've asked if we can order something. Don't know what the hell is happening and it's sad because this was a favorite place of mine but this is just ridiculous. Avoid this place on a weekend. Hands down one of my favorite sushi spots in Reno! They have all the cooked and raw rolls, nigiri and the best baked mussels. Food is always fresh! We have never had a bad experience with the food when we come eat here. A few cons about this place though is customer service, I understand it's busy but we experience some attitude at least once or twice at every visit. Also the parking lot has limited space. Be prepared to park on the street or farther down. And last.. there's almost always a wait when you come to eat, which is reasonable because the food is worth the wait! Tonight we came with a group a six and great thing was the servers were very attentive and never left our drinks half empty. Our sushi was also made and delivered to us in a timely manner. I now know they're not like any other all you can eat Japanese sushi places I've been in other states. They don't do the Japanese greeting they just say to you, "How many?" Then that's it. The ambience is ok and a lot of flat screen TV's to watch sports was a good thing if something was on during brunch hours on a Monday. But the ambience was just ok. Food quality isn't good. Junk food of Sushi! Rolls are half cut of a normal size serving so they can say it's a 10 piece. When really it's a 5 piece. Oh Tokyo Sushi. For years you were my favorite place in town and the place I recommended to people when they'd ask where to go. Not anymore. My daughter and I came here for lunch and sat at the bar. I decided I'd get All You Can Eat and my daughter, who isn't a big eater just ordered cucumber salad and a single Hawaiian Roll a la carte. Shortly after we ordered the manager came over and told us that if we order one all you can eat, the other order must also be all you can eat. My daughter explained she doesn't eat very much and that she had no interest in touching my food or sharing. I also offered to sit at a table and not at the bar so that they could seat other AYCE patrons. The manager insisted our only option was another AYCE or a Bento box (convieniently the Bento Boxes are all $20+). My daughter decided she would have a bento box instead. After that the sushi chef, not knowing what was going on delivered her roll and we explained that the manager wouldn't allow her to have the sushi, so they just threw it away which makes sense from a food safety standpoint - but for a place that charges $0.50 per un-eaten piece of sushi it was strange. We ate our food. The first thing I noticed from previous trips here is that fish portions have gotten considerably smaller and rolls contain much more rice than they used to. The sushi here is now mediocre at best and not any better than you can get at any other AYCE sushi restaurant in the area. Separately - and this was also bizarre, one of the staff without saying a word reached in between my daughter and I and then around me to check the levels of the soy sauce and topping them off. It was rude and bizzare considering we were at the end of our meal and it just could have been checked after. Even more strange was that after I asked for a single roll to go (to take home to my wife) the sushi chef was great and made if or us but only after talking to the manager. Needless to say, due to the (lack of) customer service and sub-par sushi, I'll neither be back, nor recommend Tokyo Sushi anymore. Caveat Emptor. read more
