Okay I gave this place 2 stars because of the following: Service sucked! My wife and came here for dinner and felt like we were rushed out and well here's why. The server who took our order came out about a minute later with soup. Less than 2 minutes later our salads came and we were not even half way finished with our soup. 2 minutes later our dinner came out. In a total of 5 mins we had everything. After eating our dinner the server saw that we were done and brought us our check and didn't even bother to ask if we were interested in dessert, which we were and was their loss. Talk about eat and get out. I will not recommend this place to any of my family or friends. My wife was very generous to leave a tip. If it was up to me their tip would have been to "learn some customer hospitality". read more

Tokyo Wako has upscale menu options such as filet mignon, scallop, and lobster for their grill. The miso soup was authentic, with delicate flavor and shiitake mushroom. I ordered the ginger mojito which had a strong ginger flavor. The food was absolutely delicious and our chef Julio was wonderful. The scallops were practically a religious experience, juicy and tender and just melted in my mouth. The flier mignon was just perfect, tender and flavorful. Meh. I've experienced better food. Definitely don't go here for the food, but for the experience/cooking show. I went here for my bestfriend's joint birthday with her sister. It was a party of about 30 people so we took up 3 grills. My table specifically had seven people and we ordered 3 portions of the steak, 1 portion of salmon, and 1 portion of shrimp. The chef came out pretty quickly and started the show. I highly suggest that if you don't want to get all the smoke and oil splattering towards you, don't sit in the front but to the side. I caught all the smoke during the show and it was not that fun. There's a sauce for the meat and a sauce for the veggies. The sauce for the meat was a bit salty to my liking and the sauce for the veggies was like an Asian style thousand island. The shrimp was the best out of the 3. We also ordered 2 sushi rolls and a few drinks and the total came out to about $40 for 6 people (we paid for the birthday girl's portion). So you can get an idea of how pricey it can get. I would give this place 3 stars but I took off one star because of the incident that happened at the end. They came to sing happy birthday and took a group picture for us with the restaurant's camera. My party just thought it was one of the guest's camera and next thing we know, we were charged $2/picture for a crappy dark lighting blurry picture that we did not want/were alerted about. I think the restaurant should ask their customers if they want a group picture and be charged $2/pic before they actually impose this on us. This dampen our mood and we were all WTF about it.. Omg as I'm writing this review I'm drooling. I seriously cannot believe the skills that our cook Alex had today. He was the best cook we've ever had and we have been going to Tokyo Wako for many many years. I can't wait to go back and request him as our cook. Everyone should go and request him. Tokyo Wako is a huge place with ~12 teppan tables, a regular dining area, and a sushi bar. We made a late reservation for teppanyaki on a Friday night and were able to get in (yay). The only negative is that we had to wait a li'l for our table to be filled before our chef would start, but that's pretty standard teppanyaki. The server and chef were both friendly and responsive, and recommended us a good bottle of sake out of the ~15 they offer (that was not the most expensive bottle). Between 3 of us and 2 kids, we had steamed and fried rice, roe sushi, chicken, scallops, filet, and lobster. I never order lobster anywhere because it's always kinda rubbery, but Tokyo Wako's was delicious! Ditto for the truly medium filet and the scallops. Although our chef did not deliver all the foods at the same time, they were all cooked perfectly, which is kinda rare in hibachi. It is a little expensive, but that's to be expected for the area. Overall, well worth a visit if you like hibachi. I'll have to wait to comment on the rest of the menu! read more

Nice place to bring friends and family all together for a great meal. I'm glad they have at least one vegan option, I took off 1 star because it would be nice if they had more vegan options. The only thing you can get as a vegan is tofu with rice and vegetables and make sure they don't use butter. If only their udon noodles were vegan but they egg in them. I ate here twice and both occasions were for birthdays. The first time I ate there, we ordered sushi and it was pretty much blah. Wouldn't recommend that you go here for sushi. And the bill was pretty expensive. Boooo. The four stars is solely for teppan and the service. The second time I went there was for my bff's bday. We made reservations for teppan for a Thursday night and had no problem. We were immediately seated in a private room once our partied arrived which was really cool. Our hibachi chef was hilarious and very entertaining! We were seriously cracking up and crying the whole time. The food was great and the prices for teppan was reasonable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. If I ever go back, it would be just for teppan and for our hibachi chef. Too bad I didn't catch his name. He was Asian if that helps, Lol. I usually gotta add a lil salt or seasoning to my food but here I didn't have to add a thing! It was so good I ordered the same things for my lunch (the next day) a little pricey but so worth it! Your order is taken and the Cook comes and prepares the food on the table side grill. If you're there to have a romantic dinner don't sit on the Large table with others . The only thing I did not like was that the cool cuts everything up into pieces which the food gets cold fast . I don't need anyone to cut my Meat for me. Everything gets cut up Seafood and Steaks. Drinks are weak. Parking was Valet , for what ? I can park my own car I do not need anyone to park it for me. I am so sad and upset how terrible service they are now. I've come here the past 4 years for so many occasions and we had to tell them we are leaving because the did not cook/ serve us after being seated for almost 2 hours! They never even told us they were short staffed or were going to take a long wait due to short staff, Nothing! Let's also put the icing on the cake that they seated people after us and they served them before us. I never complain or ever give bad reviews. I will start with if I could give negative starts I would (-3). 1. We were not greeted when we entered the restaurant. I did not make a big deal since I knew we were a large party and was waiting for everyone to arrive. 2. Once we were seated, in two different tables due to size and teppanyaki style cooking, I noticed one server was nicer than the other. Still giving it a pass, we all have bad days. 3. Table 1 with birthday girl and 10 guests and table 2 with 8 guests ordered their food at the same time from two different servers. 4. Table 1 the chef came out. Table 2 no chef. No chef until we went to go ask for the chef. When the chef came out he informed us he was not aware we were in the same party and he was "waiting" for a table in the back. He tried his best to give us the full experience. By the time we got our food at table 2 (an hour and a half after being seated), table 1 was done eating. 5. The server came to ask if we needed boxes soon after we were served. To which I exclaimed, "we just got our food!" I never saw her again for the rest of the night. 6. They started singing happy birthday as I ate my appetizer shrimp. WHAT?!? We also noticed they didn't use the cake we brought but we were more taken by why do you sing happy birthday while people just started eating their meal? 7. When we were finally done eating and we asked for the cake it took them 3 requests and 20 minutes to get it out. 8. When the manager, Pat was informed of all of the inconsistencies with service and our dissatisfaction he did not apologize, he did not care, and he simply waived my sister away. Pat is obviously not fit to be manager if he doesn't understand the basic concept of good customer service and running a reliable efficient staff. This was my first and LAST visit to this restaurant. When I drop $220 for 4 people (my share). I expect delicious food, great service and an establishment that cares about their patrons. This was our first time here and all I can say is good thing the cook was good. We came to celebrate our daughters birthday and they didn't even offer anything special. It started great but ended horrible. It took us about 20 minutes just to get our waitress (I won't mention her name) to take our drink orders. First time here last night on a double date and it was great! We've been to Benihana, Shima, and even Wabi Sabi before and this is essentially the same type of thing -- the chef grills food in front of you and attempts to make you laugh. However, Tokyo Wako definitely beats out its' competitors; has a great location on the Pine Ave Pier, the fried rice was more flavorful, they give more sides like the mushrooms, friendly staff/chefs, and they still have great tasting sake that we all look forward to when we go to Japanese Steak/Sushi houses. After being seated by a none to thrilled to be there hostess, we sat for 10 mins, unnoticed, until I walked back to the her to ask if someone would be serving us. After a waitress brought out drinks, we placed our order. Three of the entrees came out. Followed by another 10 minute waiting period for the last entree to come out. My sister had also placed an order for a small side salad and tuna roll, which sat on the bar for 15 mins- in case ya didnt know, nori wrap gets soggy when left sitting for that long and shouldnt be served like that. Needless to day the tuna roll was gross annnnnd her salad never came. Oh and our original waitress never came back to the table. We were served by maybe 4 to 5 different people. We really enjoyed this place. They have two sections inside, one is a sushi bar and the other one is a Benihana Style Grill at the table sit down area. For drinks we had a margarita and a Sapporo draft beer. The margarita was good enough but the draft beer was small. I'm pretty sure it was a 12 ounce glass opposed to a 16 pint glass that most people use. We got a combination platter that included teriyaki chicken, New York strip steak, shrimp and scallops. It also came with a complimentary soup salad, shrimp appetizer and rice. The food was excellent. Came here with the folks as my child loves sushi and all things fish. She was scared of benihana's the last time she went to a teppanyaki restaurant and wanted to try again as shes older and can handle the chef flipping food into mouths and the flames on the grill. This chef was attentive, funny, and food was devilishly good. He even shared bits of each person's order with our whole family to try. I Loved the grilled mushrooms and the soup. The salad was fresh and the dressings were not over powering or oily. They even gave her a free bday sundae afterwards. It was better than the reviews and more veggie- friendly than I anticipated. Food took a good 40 minutes mind you we were seated outside we requested to have the heater turned on took a good half of an hour to turn flick a "switch". I love Tokyo Wako! I come here way too much! My husband is always drinking and very loud and every single chef plays into his little gimmick so this makes dinner really fun. They sit you at the table and u cant chose ur seats which really is annoying when you are the first to show up. You wait until the table is full and then the fun starts... well for us at least hahahaa. most of the time we are seated with really boring couples that seem to hate their date nights but the chefs are making OUR date night a blast. they are funny and energetic. The food is always SOOOO good. i find Tokyo Wako to be much cleaner than Benihana. The price is pretty much the same but the upside is its right on the pier! so this makes for a really fun date! read more
