Tokyo Wako is located off Ontario Mills Pkwy in the Ontario Gateway Center. Stopped in for lunch as was not disappointed with the food. The portions served were plenty. Usually lunch portions are smaller, this wasn't the case. The lunch meal includes soup and rice, however, there's an additional cost for fried rice... it's worth it though. The steak and chicken were cooked perfectly, both nice and juicy, and the veggies were good as well. It wasn't crowded at all when I went in for lunch so the food came out quick. Oh ya, they also have a sushi bar as well as a bar-bar. I'd go back again for lunch, and dinner over at the teppan grill. read more

Showed up on a Friday evening for a graduation celebration. No sushi, that's a big let down to start off, sushi grill is on the logo. So automatically I'm knocking off a star. Next, they were very overwhelmed, but our service was attentive and tried their best. I enjoyed my dinner, steak was cooked just right. Not having sushi available was a major let down. It's a bit rundown here. The aquarium behind us had a few fish that were half dead and that freaked out a few of the kids in our group. The restrooms were disgusting so try to eat first before you use them or you might loose your appetite. I'll be back, the food was good enough and the employees were really trying their best. Mediocre at best. The food itself is fantastic, that alone deserves five stars. The hibachi grill performance was non existent. It was literally just a nice guy cooking our food and that was about it. Other than the onion volcano trick and shaping the fried rice into a heart, that was all we got. I was pretty disappointed since the whole point of going to a teppan grill restaurant like this, is to have dinner and a show. That's literally the whole point. The staff was really nice and quick with the service, but the atmosphere was really dull & it gave the vibe of 'this once was a great restaurant but something happened that made it go down hill'. There wasn't any music playing which also made the whole experience feel pretty awkward and unfortunately I don't think I'll be coming back here. The hostess that took our reservation was very friendly, nice and professional. The waitress that took our order was new, but took our order in a timely manner and correctly. Our appetizers ( garlic edamame) came out late we were already getting fried rice served to us when they came out. The woman picking up the plates was a bit rushed as she kept asking " are you done with this"? .. when we were still working on the salad /soup. We've had a better experience at the Arcadia location in regards to the teppanyaki chefs. The one we got at this location wasn't pleasant and, did not present himself as a chef for a Hibachi / Japanese establishment. He did the bare minimal when cooking the food (no Lazer light show or any of that cool stuff they usually do at these types of restaurants ) He seemed discouraged when he asked, where we were from, because we were not from where he , thought we were just because we spoke Spanish. The food he prepared was bland , we had to ask him to put a little more salt once he was done to sprinkle on our plate of food. It sucked because it was a long over due family dinner outting and the vibes we got from the teppanyaki chef were weird and uncomfortable. The location is outdated there was maybe 4 koi fish in the right hand side little pond , the other side of the pond was filthy and I picked up some trash from the front entrance as it looked so bad. I wouldn't recommend this location if you're truly interested in a good hibachi teppanyaki experience. For the price it's not worth it. read more

So I placed a pickup order for Sashimi Salad and Onion Mushroom soup at Tokyo Wako Onterio shortly after 5pm when they first open for the night. I get to the restaurant about 20 mins later, unfortunately their Sushi Chef had called in sick in the interim. I'm totally bummed out thinking I wouldn't get my Sushi order which I was completely psyched on having. This was about the head south. When the manager on duty jumps in and says "I believe I can make that order" Okay so not only was the Sashimi incredibly fresh, perfectly presented, made quickly and on schedule. It may have been the best Sashimi I've had in a long time. Kudos to the manager on duty September 11th 2023 for stepping up. Thank you I'll definitely be back when visiting Onterio Mills. read more

Walking into the restaurant they had a couple ponds with koi fish, it was a relaxing setting. We had made reservation and we were sat quickly. We had a very friendly server, he was attentive to everyone at the table and remembered all the drinks. My husband and I ordered the rising sunrise and dragon roll. The rising sunrise is the most delicious roll! It was sooooo goooood, the dragon roll was good too. This used to be my favorite teppanyaki spot. The meat used to be such great quality. Maybe it still is but our chef overcooked my steak beyond belief. The server was not attentive and we had to flag him down several times to get drink refills. The floor was so gross and sticky. Had a reservation so we were seated pretty quickly with a group of 3. Order was taken promptly since the others had already been seated. We were ready to order so that wasn't a big deal. Drinks, soup, salad and gyozas came out fairly quickly. So far so good. The chef wheels the cart over and starts the "show". He starts by tapping the spatulas on the teppan grill then he attempts to flip one and it comes crashing down on the table. Good thing our table wasn't full or it would have landed on someone's plate. This os when I knew we were in trouble. LOL Veggies are on the grill and he attempts to build the onion volcano thing. We watch for several minutes as he struggles to do this. He finally just stacks them as best as he can and lights it on FIRE! Like huge flames LOL! Fried rice comes out ok. I see some big chunks of rice not smashed down and mixed well but it still tastes ok. He grills the shrimp and gives them to us whole. No special shrimp tail removal tricks. He puts the chicken and steaks on the grill. 2 of us order medium rare, 2 medium and 1 chicken. Veggies still on the grill. Umm usually they're plated by now. So he's cooking everything up and confirms how we want our steak cooked twice. Medium Filet served first, then medium New York, then medium rare New York, then chicken and last is mine ... medium rare ribeye! The steak is so dang thin that and W A Y over cooked. Seems like maybe he could have served the medium rare steaks first, then medium, then the chicken. The other person who ordered medium rare confirmed his was way overdone too. Finally the veggies get served. Usually the veggies get served after the shrimp appetizer so we can eat them with our steak. Meal is over and they don't offer dessert before bringing the check. Hmm ok. As we get us to leave, I try to push my chair in and it's stuck to the floor. Uh gross. No more driving all the way out here for such a mediocre meal and "show". Wish I would have picked somewhere else for my husband to take me for my birthday. read more

When we finally received our bill, they overcharged us for soups we ordered and never received. We also got charged for four wines, and we only had two. We were here to celebrate a birthday. It was perfect. We were able to reserve the beautiful party room which sat 12. I highly recommend it. A really nice way to celebrate. We had great service and had lots of food. You got to get the spicy garlic edamame. That was so good. We had hot and cold house sake. Lots of appetizers and the usual filets, chicken shrimp. We loved seeing the beautiful coy fish. I knocked off 1 star because I really don't like electronic bills that a waitress is holding in her hand. Starting with the good, Chef Alex (in picture) is very skilled and a true people's person, very well skilled with the menu and presents very nice food!! And our server Andrew is a person that will make you feel very welcomed and treats you like family. Now for the bad.... The manager is a (can't use the word) but was very rude to our party that resulted in 2 people who came for their first experience getting up and leaving due to how rude and unprofessional he handled the situation. All we asked was if we could request a cook due to our last chef who was absolutely horrible! Love this place. I have been coming to this location since it opened. I like this location much more than the one at the Long Beach Pike. The owner and the staff are really nice. I must say that the best and hardest working employee is definitely Emer. He has been there for years and is there every time we are there. He is very kind and helps everyone out, and always appears to be there to top of your drinks or clear your empty plates. I love everything I have ever tried there.
