However, the location in Maui was so hot on the inside that it really interferes with enjoying the meal. What a pleasant experience! We had an extremely attentive waiter who got our food out at a VERY fast pace. If you are looking to make a night of dinner it may have been too quick for you, but he also made great dinner suggestions. We didn't have high expectations other than that they had a happy hour. We were pleasantly surprised and returned the next day specifically for their happy hour (only served at the bar). The service was excellent - drinks and food both came out fast. The drinks were very well made and significantly cheaper than what our hotel bar was serving even during their happy hour. The poke appetizer and cheeseburger sliders were great. We loved the coconut cloud and pineapple paradisio martinis - everything you want in a tropical cocktail and again both much cheaper and much better than what our hotel bar was serving. My wife and have been going to Wailea hotels for years and each time we have been in the area we wound up at Tommy Bahama Restaurant. In recent years we have seen the service and food experience go down hill. Last night was no exception. Our reservation was for 7:30 and we got there promptly only to have to wait while the wait staff cleared tables or tried to figure where to seat us even though they were not busy. Don't get me wrong it was not busy and the bar had a couple of patrons. We finally sat down and placed a drink order. When it came and after looking at the menu we attempted to order ahi tacos and poke only to find out they did not have any. I looked at the server with a look of disbelief considering it was key items on there menu. We settled for coconut shrimp and spring rolls which were ok. We also ordered a Caesar salad which lacked the crispness and was over dressed with dressing. The rolls were doughy and not warm. The whole presentation was disappointing. To add insult to injury it was our 52 anniversary and they new it and did not even offer us something to celebrate it. Our first time to a Tommy Bahama restaurant and it was an awesome dining experience. Our server Rusty was one of the best we've ever had. He guided us through the menu and cocktail options like an old friend, really made us feel comfortable and have a great time. I had the ribeye and it was top notch, my wife had Rusty's favorite the macadamia nut Mahi Mahi and she absolutely loved it. One of the managers was kind enough to check on us, the hostess was lovely, even the busboy seemed solid. We were hesitant to visit a restaurant attached to a retail store, especially a chain. We would regularly come to the Wailea location and loved it! However, they discontinued the duo of dips (the duo with guacamole and cheese - they changed it to guacamole and salsa) on the menu on the happy hour menu and regular menu. We would enjoy happy hour at the bar and get fish tacos and the duo of dips. Perfect for our meal! Now that the duo of dips is no longer available, we are not having any luck finding a substitute. Food was great and the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere. At the end of your meal along with your bill they have a postcard that you could write a message and they will mail it for you. Being on vacation and also my birthday my family and boyfriend each wrote a message on it. I got home a few days after my vacation and received the postcard. This used to be one of our 'go to' lunch places for years. We'd even drive over from the west side of the island to stop here and then do some shopping. Over the last few years their menu keeps evolving seemingly removing all the things we'd come to enjoy! I absolutely love Tommy Bahama's! Their drinks, food, and service are spot on. They go the extra mile for me every time I dine there. Just had lunch and dinner here a day apart. My fiance always orders a good ribeye. I tried their BBQ ribs, which was simply delicious! The sanibel chicken was also tasty too. I decided to try their jerk lollipops (spicy chicken pops) and that was a real treat. I don't like spicy food but I just decided to branch out and go for it. It was very good. For dessert, my fiance had the pina colada cake and it was delish. I really love creme brulee and they did not disappoint. Oh, and they also have a special Island Time Happy Hour menu. This is one of my favorite restaurants on Maui and for what they charge, I am all in and will not complain once about it. We were served by Lara and Laura on both days and they were very knowledgeable and good with service. Even though we were locals dining at a tourist location, they were more than helpful the entire time and constantly checked on us. We appreciate it!!! Their slogan, "Relax, Life is One Long Weekend" does not fail. Very relaxing atmosphere and its calming entertainment in the background gets the thumbs up too. read more

We stopped in for our first night of our annual Maui trip and returned after having previously had a great experience. That was not the case for this visit. We had the hotel concierge make reservations (I was standing next to her while she called and heard the conversation and confirmation) -- however when we arrived the EXTREMELY RUDE hostess informed us that we had missed our reservation by 2 hours and we could not be seated, with evident empty tables she noted it was flat out impossible and that is what happens when you arrive miss your reserved slot. We insisted she check again. Rather than phrasing "Oh I'm sorry it looks as if there was a mix up with your reservations, we can certainly work to fit you in would you mind waiting while we see what we can do to accommodate you" -- it was very simple they could not seat us. Since we had very few options, we asked if it might be possible to sit at the bar. "Sure." --- I was so disappointed at this young girl's arrogance and lack of respect, really wanted to just leave but my wife had her heart set on eating there. The bartenders set up a place for us to eat and were delightful, if I rated my experience on the bar I would give it 4 stars. Food was tasty, service there was quite nice -- drinks superb. But unfortunately, it went from the worst to better and all I can remember is the worst. If I hadn't been on vacation and exhausted from travelling all day I would have asked to speak to a manager, just too much effort at that point. read more

Well I had been anticipating this dinner since I stepped foot on Maui! My wife and I made reservations a couple weeks in advance, and we still waited 20 minutes to be seated!! So the dinner started off bad!! Our server was outstanding, and very informative!! I ordered the Ribeye steak, medium! The steak was cooked very unevenly. Most of my steak was medium well, some was medium! The wait time between the appetizers, and the entrees was way to long! The food itself was underwellming for the price! I took my family there for happy hour. We arrived there at around 2:15 and we sat at the bar. It took the bartender about 5 minutes to say anything to us. She was helping other customers but a friendly hello would have been great. We ordered, received our drinks and waited for our food. Had the ahi appetizer along with the cheeseburgers sliders, pork belly sliders and fish tacos. All of the food was really good. The thing that turned me off was that the bartender was talking to her girlfriend for close to 10 minutes while we sat there wanting to order more drinks and food. Went to the Tommy Bahama at 5:30 on a Saturday. No one in the restaurant but still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. We had the coconut shrimp appetizer which tasted like they went from freezer to deep fryer (not that great). I ordered the ribeye which was ok. There are way better steaks for the price around. We sat outside and got to listen to an amazing live singer while enjoying our appetizers, drinks and dinner. We got the pork belly sliders for an appetizer (recommended by our waiter) and they were SO good! I ordered the Thai Shrimp and Scallop dish and I must say, it was one of my best meals on the island. Had an okay dinner here for our last night in Maui. The service is generally friendly but definitely slow. It took a very long time to get drinks and food throughout the meal. In fact, our server refilled all our drinks when we were already done eating and waiting for the check. The food itself is nothing I'd really come back to. Had the special surf and turf that came with a NY strip steak and lobster tail along with cauliflower mashed potatoes and broccolini (normally comes with asparagus but I requested to switch it out). The lobster was good and so were the sides. I did have a huge problem with the steak, though. NY strip steak is not generally a fatty cut. But mine was incredibly fatty. It was to the point where maybe only 1/4 of the entire cut was actually edible. The rest was entire chunks of fat that I couldn't swallow. It took away from the entire meal and I found myself still hungry after the huge plate. I'm not too keen on coming back. When you think of Tommy Bahama's the last thing that comes to mind is fabulous dining experience. The first thing that comes to mind is expensive aloha shirt made for yuppy guy who lives in a tropical climate. Our Maui friend suggested that we meet up at Tommy's for lunch and at first I was a bit skeptical. They make resort wear, not food. I'm 7 months pregnant and at this point all I have is food to keep me happy. No boos. No recreational drugs. No airplane trips. No hot yoga. Not even cute clothes. Don't mess with my meals dude! With reluctance we headed to Tommy Bahama's and I was pleasantly surprised at the good experience we ended up having. Located on the 2nd floor of the Shops At Wailea, Tommy Bahama's restaurant is a design extension of the neighboring Tommy Bahama's store. Their menu is made up of hearty salads and contemporary mexican/carribean cuisine. Our waitress was a very nice Argentinean girl who did a really great job except that for some reason she couldn't remember what kind of iced tea our friend had ordered. My BF & I decided to split the Steak Saba salad and the fish tacos. I highly recommend spitting dishes when you eat here because the portion sizes are HUGE! We could have probably ordered and split just one entree because of the sizes. They were nice enough to serve our orders on separate plates and the 1/2 order looked like a full order. We ended up with 4 huge fish tacos and I couldn't even finish my second taco. I was so full that even though I'm a total sweets fiend, I couldn't even order dessert at the end. The dessert tray looked amazing and the nice thing is that they offer half sizes of any of their ridiculously huge desserts. We had a wonderful experience and if you like salads you're going to really love Tommy Bahamas. They have a nice selection and the portion sizes make it so you're not ever going to walk away hungry. Like at their retail locations, be prepared to dish out some dough for your meal. Average entree runs $18+ and if you order cocktails you'll end up spending $30+ per person. That's just for lunch! Most likely you're on vacation if you're eating here so wear your $125 Tommy Bahama aloha shirt, eat your $20 Tommy Bahama fish tacos, drink your $10 Tommy Bahama mai tai and enjoy your luxurious Maui vacation. You're going back to the "real world" soon so enjoy the good life while you can! read more

I'm baffled by some of the reviews because our meal was phenomenal. Scallop sliders and a wedge salad to start. Scallops were cooked to perfection. Wedge was good, a bit heavy on the dressing but I like lots of dressing. I opted for the macadamia nut Mahi mahi and my husband got the new zealand sushi grade salmon on a bed of spring pea risotto- also delicious. It was our anniversary celebration and the entire staff treated us really well. Waitstaff was super cool and the manager we remembered from another visit to another restaurant last year and he took great care of us then and now! After posting my original review, I was contacted by the Regional Manager who was concerned about our initial visit. He assured us that what happened was not their usual service, must be a mistake on someone's part and to give them another chance. Our second visit was TOP NOTCH all the way. Managers Megan and Chad along with our waiter Jake, took great care of us. We had a wonderful dinner...with one of the best steaks I have ever had, with my husband and daughter had equally delicious snapper entrees! Desserts were heavenly. One of the BEST dinners we had during our vacation! I made reservations 45 min in advance no problem for two adults and three little children. Once we got there the hostess was clueless about our reservation and our table was not ready. We had to ask twice for a high chair. Only 50% of the tables were occupied at 5:30. However, once we were seated, the magic started. Our waitress gave us some recommendations and we started with a blood orange margarita blended that was very satisfying after a day in the sun. Kids had a strawberry lemonade that they loved. The waitress brought out some fresh bread for the kids straight away which was nice. My wife and I had the scallop sliders for appetizer that were fantastic. They split the wedge salad for us no problem. My wife had the macadamia nut encrusted mahi-mahi that came out a little bland but, still decent. I had the shrimp and scallop Thai curry plate that was very good. The curry was enhancing and not over powering. The waitress was great and helpful. So far my favorite things are the coconut cloud (great martini) then their ahi crisp and coconut shrimp soooo worth getting!
