4th of July and I wanted a donut after early morning shopping at Safeway. We head over to Rudy's in Castro Valley, closed. That other place over on Redwood Rd, closed. Hmmm. Wonder if Tommy's is open? Hey look! There's a few cars parked in front. Let's check it out. The building is looking a bit tired. The signage is faded and one of the signs in front is cracked with a large piece missing. Stepping inside, we're pleased to find a wide variety of donuts available. There's a couple of customers in front of us and a couple more walk in behind. We better not dawdle. The server asks what we would like. I ordered an Apple Fritter and a Cinnamon Twist. She says $4.00. I give her the money. She gives me the donuts with a smile and a thank you. Somehow the donuts feel lighter than they looked. I'm often disappointed by overweight, undercooked Apple Fritters with hardly an apple to be found. Not with this delicious morsel today! First bite, apple! Second bite, apple! I'm not going to say apple on every bite but this Fritter was a winner. Why light in weight? Because it wasn't so dense that the center was still raw. No! This was a terrific Fritter. She marvelled on how light her Cinnamon Twist was. Not rock candy hard with glaze. A slight cinnamon flavor to tease your taste buds. We both agreed that these were some of the best that we've had in a very long time. If they're just as good on the next visit, our rating will definitely be going up! read more

I don't eat too many doughnuts these days, but I crave em on rare occassions. I prefer original doughnuts being the 80s baby that I am, so this place hit the spot for me. I've passed by many times, and always had my eye on this place, and after coming a second time, I know where I prefer to get my local doughnuts now. They're always good, and I know a few others that frequent this spot more often than myself. I prefer anything glazed here, And today they didn't have my favorite custard filled glazed doughnuts...but they offered and made me 2 anyways. The guy sliced a glazed doughnut and pasted the custard in the middle. These doughnuts and pastries are so GOOD and they appear to have a steady flow of customers. Donuts are good and fresh and they have a good selection. Lady behind the counter isn't rude but also not friendly.

I was able to order donuts ahead of time as my son didn't want cake or cupcakes. He wanted donuts! I went with Tommy's Donuts as they have giant donuts daily and I could make them into a hot wheels race track. I also ordered sugar race cars and put them on top. They were a hit at the party! This place has been in Hayward for a very long time. Why! The building itself is mid century modern with a butterfly roof. If you are into mid century modern architecture and doughnuts then this place is for you. Tommy's Doughnuts is a straight forward place. With no seasonal flavor specials on doughnuts and coffee. Coffee is coffee at this place. This is an old school doughnut place. Want the fancy stuff go to the overpriced hipster places. When you walk in there's a fridge full of drinks to pick up along with you're doughnuts. I bought over a dozen of doughnuts with bottled drinks. Was given a bag of free doughnut holes just because! They do sell cup of noddles if you don't want any doughnuts or with doughnuts if you prefer! Pros; Service and doughnuts are amazing as affordable. Free parking on the lot. Cons; at the end of the place. That area could use some organizing! They do practice COVID practices. F.Y.I If you unlock you're car or lock it at the back at the parking lot. There a goat with a miniature horse in a micro mini ranch property. Reason why I'm saying this. I thought to myself something was wrong with my car sounding like a goat lol. Amazing donuts! Definitely the best in Hayward and one of the best in the Bay! Reminds me of Bob's in SF for freshness and quality. The selection of regular glazed, old fashioned, etc was complimented by regular and large size specialty donuts, including cinnamon rolls and twists. Everything was fresh including the oil. After I left Tommy's I went to Hayward's other higher rated donut shop and was sorely disappointed that there are donuts have a burnt aftertaste, indicative of a shop that reuses and doesn't clean the frying oil. It's less than 5 minutes off 580 or 238, so if you are looking for a morning treat when driving into the Bay (or leaving), stop on by. During SIP (2020) they are closing early. read more

Drop what you're doing and get a donut, you wont regret it! Locally owned and a long time establishment. I'm not sure why this place doesn't get more hype. Yes, the donuts are basic and looks like all the other places, but the no frills environment and friendly service is enough for me. Also the big parking lot is a plus. I've been here a few times a month and my order doesn't change very often. I am OBSESSED with their donut holes (puts DD to shame) and their maple bars are like crack. The donut holes are so soft and fresh and not overly sweet. I do come in the morning though so I can not vouch for the afternoon donuts. They also serve lots of other flavors of donuts too and if you're looking for lunch, they also serve sandwiches, chips, bottled drinks, and coffee . Took a brisk early afternoon stroll in nearby Japanese Gardens, and was in major craving of some coffee coffee coffee with donuts (but, of course) afterwards, and Tommy's looked to be the spot to achieve those cravings! We were an hour shy of closing on a Saturday, so their donut selection was more limited. But fear not, still enough options to get what I came for. We both got two donuts each. Mine were a both crumbled options. Mm mm, soo good. That crumbled twist was EVERYTHING. And even better, cashier gave us three complementary donut holes each. I came here on a weekday morning so I'm assuming everyone was already at work. There was another person walking out as I was walking in so I had the whole place to myself (which was nice because it's a smaller shop and COVID). I was surprised that there weren't many selections- thus the one star deduction. However, their donuts are pretty good! Nothing special of course, but I think all donuts taste the same. I would go again since it's so close to my apartment, but I'll probably also try to explore more donut shops around the area, too! read more

For ME Same Doughnuts I can get anywhere, off the shelf ingredients and recipes. All I wanted was a Cinomon Roll soft and Cuddly and yes beautiful dough but Where is the Cinomon? Didn't find it, must have snuck out the back door! Old fashioned was good, easy to make! Fritter..... OK My pet Peeve! Decades and not an Edible Fritter to be found, Dozens of Doughnut places and Coffee Shops visited. Fritters have Apple in them ! ! ! Where did the Apples Go..... I think they Escaped! Apples are Supposed to be Visible Chunks NOT 1/4 inch mushy micropieces hiding in the sauce. I have NOT found a Fritter in Decades so someone needs to surprise me, you can't just open a can of apple sauce then pour a sugar glaze and call it a Fritter! Went here yesterday at 5am 6/27/16. Early in the morning you have the pick of the litter - warning - its difficult to make a choice. I believe they open at 4am. Had a very fresh raised glazed donut and a custard filled jelly donut. Very nice quality and size and beautiful too. The raised plain was very light weight. The Jelly more satisfying. Two people working there and surprisingly busy for the hour. Saw some cereal in quick to grab to go cups too. A beautiful store. High ceilings and lots of windows. From memory both indoor and outdoor seating. Both a parking lot and some street parking. I really want to try what looked like a cinnamon roll next. Looked promising. If you don't want to pick and choose I do recommend getting a dozen - make some friends at work. read more

A great mom-and-pop donut shop located in Hayward! I stopped by to pick up a box of donuts for my cousins birthday party. I came around closing time & a guy named Wilson (the owners son, it seems) was the one helping me put. Extremely nice and friendly, he was telling me about their business and also gave me a lot of extra donuts since they were about to close. I picked out an assortment of donuts for my family. Wilson recommended I try the blueberry donut because that one is his favorite - I tried it and it was so good with a cup of coffee! Went to this place because Hippie's Brew was closed and it was the closet thing to walk to on Foothill Blvd that wasn't Toto's Grill. It's a donut shop first so of course they sell a variation of pastries, but they also have breakfast and regular sandwiches available. The lady that helped us was very friendly. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich toasted on french roll and my friend ordered their turkey sandwich on white bread. It wasn't the amazing, but my expectations were also not high so I wasn't disappointed. The chicken salad was mayo overload which I didn't care for. The turkey sandwich looked better but nothing out of the ordinary. It's a good pit stop for a snack, but who would recommend a donut stop? read more

Here once a week! Iced coffee with a jalapeño ham n egg croissant is a must try! Very friendly workers and always greeting you making you feel at home once you walk in.
