How can a Thai restaurant mess up a spring roll? It was loosely wrapped, in a flour tortilla, no shrimp or tofu, looked like scrambled eggs and sausage with bean sprouts. And the sauce was like sweet honey sauce, not peanut sauce. I even pointed out that it didn't look anything like a spring roll and they said "no, that's a spring roll" I think they gave me an unfried egg roll. I understand kitchens make mistakes but to look me in the eye and insist this was a spring roll? I'll never go back. It's a shame, they used to be my all time favorite Thai restaurant. read more

I have been here a couple of times now for pre-concert dinner and while I remember my food being pretty good the first time, this last time left me feeling pretty meh about it. I got the drunken noodles and my husband got the tofu in brown sauce. He enjoyed his, but mine was just..... Meh. The noodles were very oily, there was not much flavor. The tofu was not fried, just plain, bland- the tofu people try and say "I hate tofu!" I'm vegan & I like tofu, but usually expect it to be fried with Thai food; my husband's was fried? And they fry it when they put it in curry so? It made the texture/taste of the whole dish very unimpressive. Spongy tofu and oily noodles. Yummy. No crunch. No bite. Sigh. I also ordered medium spice, was not spicy at all. We were low on time so I sucked it up and made it okay by adding soy sauce and a bunch of hot pepper powder and chili sauce, but I don't think I'll get their drunken noodles again. I do appreciate they have several vegan options so I'm sure we'll be back at some point, but next time I'll try something else. read more

I went to Tommy's the other day because my favorite Thai restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Tommy's surpassed my expectations as my stand in Thai-fix. I ordered the Panang Curry, which was a good balance of spicy and sweet. The cuts of chicken and veggies were just the right size. Don't you hate it when you're trying to shovel hot Thai food into your mouth as fast as you can, only to encounter too-big-for-one-bite pieces of food? I also got an order of the mango and sticky rice, something that I haven't had done really well since I travelled in Thailand (when I ate it obsessively about every day). I came here for Cherry Creek North lunch club the other day. Yes, this is a bit outside the normal target area, but there were only a few of us going, so there were no issues. I had been wanting to try the food here for quite some time. I must say that I was not disappointed. Although I am not a fan of my water being served in a metal cup, they did a good job of keeping it filled. My starter eggroll was hot, crisp, and tasty. It was a chilly day outside, so I opted for a bowl of hot soup. Actually, I ordered the soup for two. The waitress said she would put it in one big bowl, but that did not happen. Also, when they mixed up the orders a bit when bringing out the food. But, this worked out, as I had one bowl of the soup I ordered, and one bowl of the soup a fellow diner ordered. Both were excellent. The soup I did not order . . . the Tom Yum Soup Spicy (A spicy and sour soup with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, lemongrass, galanga, Kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, cilantro and Thai chilis) was very flavorful, and piping hot. This was ordered with chicken, and there was a decent amount of it in the bowl. My original order, the Tom Kha Soup w/ chicken (soup with chili paste, carrots, coconut milk, mushrooms, lemongrass, galanga, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, baby corn and cilantro) really was delicious. There were no off notes, nor were there things in the soup you had to eat around (like chunks of lemongrass or ginger). If I had to pick between the two, I would give the edge to the Tom Kha. The creamy quality of the coconut milk really rounds this soup out. read more

Tommy's Thai is one of those places that you always see packed with customers but you're not sure if you should try it simply because it claims to be an Asian restaurant but is has an American name which makes you think it's probably ran by some white boy who moved here for New York and decided he'd like to open a Thai restaurant. Well you're wrong! Tommy's Thai is ran by all Asians and its freakin legit. Lol On a serious note, Tommy has become my go to place for Thai food in Denver. I'll start off by saying that I'm not from Colorado, so I find the food Denver to be lacking in flavor, seasoning, and is overly Americanized 90% of the time. I also thoroughly enjoy spicy food; not from the ego perspective of "i can eat spicier food than you," but I tolerate it well and find it a favorite quality of mine in food. For example- I love and tolerate foods with habanero, at least I did until the lining of my stomach finally decided against it. I've really been craving some decent Thai and decided to try Tommy's. We ordered the Pad Thai at medium spice for my partner, as she is more sensitive to spice than I am. First, it was the best Pad Thai I've had in Denver this far. Second, the medium was actually quite spicy. I was pretty surprised, as again, I tolerate spice quite well compared to my partner. Despite it almost being too spicy for her, she still loved it. I got the Thai (green) Curry in "hot" and it was HOT. I'm so used to food being so mildly spicy here in Denver that I didn't expect this lol. While the green curry wasn't the best I've had nor can I put my finger on what it was missing, it was still decent and better than what I've had in Denver so far, but it left me really craving a good green curry from back home. I'm rating it a four because I can't give them a 3.75 and the Thai I've previously had in Denver is akin to a TV dinner. Looking forward to trying more from Tommy's. Spice guide- Mild- haven't tried it, but compared to how hot the "medium" is, I wouldn't go above mild if you're sensitive. Medium- surprisingly hot for medium. It's perfect for me; and in comparison to most other establishments it Denver, this "medium" is the other's "hot," or maybe even their "extra hot." Hot- it's freaking spicy. I was sweating and my nose was running. Almost too hot for me to properly enjoy, but that's just me. It's beyond what my pallet likes for enjoying the other flavors of the food. But now I know! Thai hot- Haven't had it, but I can only imagine that this would be INSANE. It would most likely melt my face off. I saw some guy on another review saying that this wouldn't be so hot as to overwhelm the flavor of the food- he's a freak of nature. There's no way this wouldn't melt my spice loving face off, not to mention those of you who find sriracha too spicy, which I find bewildering. read more

My leftovers today inspired me to write this review, because they were mmmhhh just so delicious! I rarely have leftovers from Tommy's because I enjoy the flavors so much its hard to stop eating but I told myself last night that if saved some for lunch today I'd be able to enjoy their food twice vs. once! Tommy's Thai is my go to Thai restaurant in Denver. Their pad thai is the best in the city hands down. I also die for their pinneapple curry with chicken. They are good for dine-in and take out and all of their menu items are fairly priced. I appreciate their spicy scale, medium spice is plenty for me but my husband enjoys the hot and every now and then the Thai hot, which is quite spicy. It was perfect! I also had Pad Thai Woon-sen, pad Thai with glass noodles. It was delicious too. I'm not a picky eater, but I'm a picky Thai eater, n this was great. They make everything from scratch, so if u want anything extra sauce or anything, have to let waitress know right away when ordering. They don't have pre-made sauces available. Great service as well. Me and 2 of my friends came here for dinner. It was very hard to find parking because their lot is really small and the neighboring streets all require a permit after 6pm. Once inside, they refused to seat us until our whole party was there. After they finally seated us, they kept rushing us to order. We had the: Pad Thai Panang Curry Drunken Noodles They were ok, but I've had much better. We ordered the items Thai Hot, and they still weren't spicy and we had to add more hot pepper. Will this place change your life - probably not however, sometimes even simply good takeout can be hard to find and really, Tommy's Thai does that well. I don't order much takeout but that is mostly because I have difficulty in locating items that are worth my money that doesn't completely suck. My neighbor, myself, and two other ladies after picking some apples from our yard decided we were hungry. My neighbor suggested this place and we just went with it. Scouring the menu the group decided on Pad Thai, Massanum, Tofu Thai Curry, and Pad Kea Mow. I would say that all of the dishes even for takeout arrived hot which is sometimes half the battle. I think the Tofu Thai Curry was the best dish - it had the most flavor and was my choice so go figure! The other dishes were good just pretty standard and nothing to write home about. I would probably order from Tommy's Thai again however, I would plan to try some other dishes and maybe even eat inside which can change an experience. read more

I found this spot about 10 years ago, and I have continued to return-- I like that the price is reasonable and the service is friendly. It's never the most elegant or the most memorable meal, but it is always just enjoyable and comforting. I went last week after not having been in a while, and I realized it's a time capsule that never changes. The Tommy's Tidbits platter has always and still is perfect to split with one other person. With one or two entrees, depending on your hunger level, you can't go wrong. They have Thai Iced tea that is sweet and consistently delicious, too. Our server--Meow-- was hilarious and friendly, and she even learned our names by the end of the meal. I love that it is a long-standing staple on an ever-changing strip of Colfax. I went in for lunch with a few friends. It came recommended from our other friends that said it's some of the best Thai food they have had. I have high expectations. It was good but not the best Thai food I've had in Denver. I ordered the pad kea moa, aka drunken noodles. I got it as hot and it was barely spicy. I can't handle Thai hot but I am thinking in this instance I could have. So it was a little disappointing on the spice level. Maybe I should have gotten the paanang curry. Drunken noodles is always my go to at Thai restaurants because I love the wide rice noodles. There was still flavor there and I definitely was still good despite the spicy level. And just because I love drunken noodles, I would still recommend it. I loved the Thai iced tea, it wasn't too sweet. Which is how I like my Thai tea. So I definitely recommend the Thai iced tea. So over all, the place was good. I've had better Thai food. And I would still return because I would love to try something else. read more

UPDATE 10/02/10: From 3 stars to 5 stars. Tommy Thai has become my "go-to," "take-out" and "dine-in" Thai stop. I am definitely a regular and recommend it if you are in the area. T.T. has a Colfax feel with style, not a dress up type date place. More of a casual Colorado feel restaurant with much more class than most along the Colfax route. I have tried all of the curry plates and most all of the other dishes on the menu. All very good. I personally think Tommy Thai should have a higher rating than they currently have been given. I had been there before & it was much much experience then. I attempted to get a fresh roll however; they call it something else filled tofu & other vegetables. On the menu it called a spring roll however; they are pre-made & not sure if they are made there or contracted from 7-11. Who knows. On another occasion I ordered the same thing & lap. Been coming to Tommy's for a decade now. And I've haven't been to Tommy's in a year.....nor do I do reviews. But I have to only because I never thought I would be this disappointed. So disappointed that we could even eat the food. Had to just throw it away. And this is very sad, because it's wasteful. But it wasn't edible by any means. If you start off with their wonton or hot and sour soup, expect a very tasty, hot appetizing experience. We have been going to Tommy's for I kid you not, 15+ years. This place is solid. I typically order the chicken and shrimp Pad Thai and it is the best I have found in Colorado (possibly the US). The prices are fair, portions are good and service is pretty quick. No reason to not try it out (ok maybe aside from the parking lot being small, but there is street parking)! read more

Always on the look out for good Thai food and Tommy's is one that I will go back to. Not much on decor, or comfortable seating for that matter, but the food is flavorful and close to traditional Thai cuisine. The problem with any Thai food outside of Thailand is that the ingredients available here are different than those available and always used in Thailand. There everything is fresh, never pre-cooked, or pre-made, and most often cooked right in front of you in a big wok or on an open fire. At least that is the best way to have food in Thailand, on the street or in an open market. If I could review places to eat in Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Pattaya, Chantaburi or other places I surely would and most of them would be given 6 stars out of a possible 5. Anyway, back to Tommy's, for Thai food prepared in Denver, it is good, not great, but a definite GOOD. The menu is typical for a Thai restaurant, you need to request for "spicy" if you want it that way. The portions are rather small so it would not be unusual to eat a couple of dishes on your own. Prices are moderate. I am still (always) on the hunt for good (great) Thai food, but I fear I have been spoiled by having so much great food in Thailand. The hunt is fun and as long as the food is passable, then I enjoy the hunt. Also included the hunt is Viet Namese cuisine and maybe some good Northern Chinese food. So, if you want some good Thai food, in a rather sterile environment, then Tommy's would be a good choice. read more

I stopped in one night before seeing a show at the Bluebird. The place was nice and modern, and the service very attentive. I had the Pad Kra Pow, which was tasty. I was a little annoyed with how little spice was in the dish though. The waitress asked what level I wanted, and I replied hot. She seemed a little in disbelief, asking if I was sure. "Yup!" I said enthusiastically, but the dish was on the lower end of medium at best. Oh well, at least it had decent flavor. It also came out lightning fast, even for a Thai place. We stumbled across this restaurant while in Denver for an event. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and the restaurant atmosphere was relaxed and quiet enough to easily carry on conversations at the table. We enjoyed our dinner so much we went back the next night! Being vegan and gluten free I was worried about finding something to eat, but our waitress (who we were lucky enough to get the second night too) walked me through everything on the menu they could modify for me, and was very knowledgeable.
