I've been visiting my BFF for 30 years (who works across the street on 2nd Ave) and I'm sad to say that this is the first time I've tried Tompkins Square Bagels. I'm so very, very glad that I finally made across the street because, wholly guacamole, the bagels here are AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! I want to come back to try EVERY. SINGLE. HOMEMADE. CREAM. CHEESE! We had the Koch on an onion bagel and a garlic bagel, the Weezer, the Triple Crown, and the Kaitlyn. Of course, we ordered the quintessential New York breakfast, bacon, egg, and cheese. The deliciousness brought us to tears! Before leaving, we also tried the Back-to-School special, a French toast bagel with strawberry cream cheese, and I honestly don't think there's another bagel more perfect than that! With regards to service, I could only give 5 stars, but given the opportunity, I would've given 10! The staff here was fantastic in offering suggestions and sharing their favorites from the menu. They were friendly in a way that made us feel like home. They were quick to fix a problem another customer had with his bagel...no questions asked! How awesome is that? Incredible bagel sandwiches! They're so big they hardly fit in your mouth! Piping hot and you can customize them as-needed. The "iced coffee" made me hesitant as I wasn't sure if that meant cold brew or weak coffee with milk. It was actually really delicious! Came here twice on my trip to NYC. Tried the breakfast sandwich first and the second time I wanted to do a cream cheese + bagel combo. The cream cheese options look like gelato ice cream in the glass case, and they have lots of flavors to choose from. I think you could get coffee elsewhere, but stay for the bagels!! Yum yum yum. Tompkins Square was quiet the morning I went and then got super busy as I was leaving. I ordered an egg everything with eggs and cheese for just shy of $10. It was piping hot and very cheesy. It could've used a hint of salt but hit the spot otherwise. My normal order is an egg everything with scallion cream cheese but I was cold that morning and wanted a warm sandwich. Iconic bagel shop which was bustling on a Saturday morning. You get in line (moved quickly) and someone takes your order on a notepad, so you need to be a bit prepared with what you want, this does help with efficiency though. You can see them boiling and baking bagels fresh and the store smells awesome. I went with a classic lox, scallion cream cheese, tomato, on everything bagel untoasted. The ingredients were stellar, high quality salmon, flavorful cream cheese, and fresh tomato, but the bagel was a let down unfortunately. It was very dense and tough to bite. My friend from NJ ravesss about this bagel shop, so I def wanted to give it a try. Came on a Sunday morning - that was not the greatest move. There was a line out the door, and you don't realize the true extent of it till you actually enter inside - it is accentuated. They had a good system going on though, with a person coming up to each individual to take orders while in line so that way when we got to the front, the orders would be ready. I opted for a savory and a sweet bagel (highly recommend doing this). I got a poppy seed bagel with the lox spread, and a French toast bagel with cookie dough cream cheese. Both were scrumptious. The unfortunate part was that by the time I paid and got my order after an HOUR of waiting, the bagels were no longer fresh. They were toasted, but they lost the warmth. While they were still delicious, it would've been 10x more better had it been served fresh on the spot. I haven't had a poppy bagel in so long, so I enjoyed the combo w the spread, which had lil chunks of salmon throughout and a nice flavor. I feel like they could've added more toppings in there like herbs. The French toast bagel was cinnamon-y, and the cookie dough spread was divine. Loved the chocolate chips with each bite. Got the Lox bagel here, per my friend's recommendation as Tompkins is her favorite NYC bagels. I ordered my Lox online, which was very simple, and the wait was 45 mins, about the time it took for us to arrive here anyway. I picked it up no problem, and skipped the line. My friends wanted it fresh, and decided to wait in line, even though I ordered online ahead. The line was super long, weaving outside, took 25 mins, it does move. But the thing I didn't realize is that they do take your order outside (also you can't change the order once you place it), and it's ready by the time you get to the front of the line and pay, if that makes sense. Anyway, on with the taste - it was a decent bagel, salmon and cream cheese good. I can't say it was my FAVORITE lox in NYC - Russ and Daughters still wins that award for me. I chose a toasted everything bagel with dill cucumber cream cheese, egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon. The eggs are what really blew me away on this sandwich. It was a soft scramble that wasn't overcooked. Perfection. The bagel was perfectly crisp and everything I could've asked for. The service was a well oiled machine as well. There are people taking orders on one end, they put your order in and you go to the register area to pay. They call out your name when the food is ready so be prepared. There's a small amount of seating but turnover is pretty quick. My friend and I were able to snag a seat and really dig into our food. They also sell a variety of beverages and other little snacks. So many bagel places on 1st Avenue alone, we are spoiled for choice in the EV. This is a good spot for bagel sandwiches since they have a grill, which means the bacon is crispy. I prefer this location of Tompkins Square bagels to the one on Avenue A or the one close to Union square bc there's never too many people in line. I came to learn about Tompkins Square Bagels through a YouTube video on the channel Jolly! It looked so good I knew I had to make a stop on a planned trip to NYC. We walked around a while to check out the menus before ordering our food. I wanted a good ole egg and cheese bagel. I opted for one of the juices in the fridge for a drink and took a seat while waiting for the food. After a couple of minutes, everything came out. I dug in right away and it was exactly what I wanted. The bagel had a bit of a crust but a soft interior. The cheese was pully and the egg was perfectly cooked. The juice complimented the sandwich very nicely. My boyfriend said few words whilst eating his sandwich and seemed very pleased. Really happy we made it a point to swing by whilst in NYC!
