We recently went to Tonino for my mother's birthday. This cozy restaurant showcases authentic elevated Italian. As an appetizer, we started with the Pizza Bianca with Ricotta and Hot Honey. The bread seemed more focaccia rather than pizza but I was not upset. It was lovely! Our group of three tried the Taleggio Cappelletti with Aged Balsamic, the Cavatelli with House Sausage, Broccoli Rabe and Lemon, and their Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe. All three were incredible but the Taleggio Cappelletti with Aged Balsamic was some of the best pasta I've ever had. The sauce was buttery goodness. Our server was great and provided helpful suggestions for a bottle of wine. For dessert, we decided on tiramisu and panna cotta. While the panna cotta was good, the tiramisu was the winner. I came here to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night with one other person. The food was amazing, the staff is very friendly. Our server was very attentive. She explained the daily specials in detail and was very helpful. For drinks, I got the Bergamot Blush. It is orange and very fruity. It came with a lemon peel. We had the daily special pizza Bianca, with Baccala. The potatoes were whipped very smooth. The cod was very tasty. It paired perfectly with the crusty bread. For small plates, we shared house olives, the mortadella plate, and roasted squid. Every dish tasted like they used high quality ingredients. The mortadella plate is one of its kind with various pickled vegetables. They balanced out the fattiness from the mortadella. For main, we each had the chitarra & clams, and the daily special fusilli with chicken liver. The chicken liver was heavenly and melted in my mouth. The clams were big, fatty clams, and they tasted very fresh. Overall, the ambiance was chill, not too loud. I added celebrating birthday when I made the reservation, and the staff added a candle on the dessert, panna cotta. It was very refreshing and unique, paired with pomegranate and apples. This was excellent from start to finish. Upon entering a beautifully decorated space were immediately greeted by a friendly star member that took our name to locate the correct table for our reservation. Once seated our server immediately came over to get drinks and walk up through the menu. After telling them about my diary allergy, they went down the entire menu with confidence and double checked with the chef. This make extremely comfortable and very excited for my meal. They seemed willing to make necessary accommodations. We are the bread with eggplant dip, pepperoni and hot honey spice, mortadella plate, house olives, rigatoni and the cappelletti. All delicious and with large serving sizes. We left stuffed and with leftovers to take home. After our wonderful meal I realized that I had spilled some sauce on my dress. Service was top notch and provided thoughtfully. Quality of the food was excellent but did not correspond to the cost; portions were on the smaller size so expect to order 2-3 items per person. The size of some of the bread included in appetizers seemed to vary (mine looked smaller than many). Taleggio capelleti was extremely rich and would have benefitted from additional balsamic. Notably, the balsamic was of a good quality. I heard the adjacent table mention that the clams were salty. Ambiance is cozy, intimate and warm. Great date spot (though some of the tables are quite close together). Take out menu is only pizza so if you are interested in trying the pasta, make a reservation. There are not many date night restaurants out in JP, so it was really exciting to see a new potential place pop up! I don't live in the area anymore, but have heard great things about this restaurant. It's a small, yet cozy space that gives off "NYC restaurant" vibes. Apparently, you need to make a reservation a bit in advance. Thankfully, my partner was wonderful and set one up. Menu is small, but has a lot of unique options. Looks like they'll have specials every once in a while, which they'll write on a mirror on the back wall (FYI, it was really hard for me to read because of the reflections, but our waitress was amazing and told us right away). We shared a pizza bianca with eggplant caponata and trevisano salad. For entrees, my partner got the lumache pasta and I got their fusilli special. Sheesh, they were absolutely delicious and unique. Portion sizes were great and I didn't feel overwhelmed. Finished off dinner with a tiramisu. This spot is small and cozy. There are perhaps only 12 tables. It is tough to get a reservation, but it is so worth the effort. The service here is phenomenal. You truly feel taken care of and respected at this establishment. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. The food is outstanding. I can think of very few 5 star Italian restaurants in the Boston area, and newcomer Tonino definitely makes the cut. The space is small but cozy, the waiters very friendly and welcoming. It's the perfect date night spot. We started with one slice of pizza, which was perfect to share. The thing that makes this place a 5-star restaurant is you can taste the quality of the ingredients. The tomato sauce, the olive oil, the chewy dough, a perfect match. Another great thing about this spot is they have daily specials. On the day we went, they had butternut squash agnolotti and broccoli rabe and sausage gnocchetti Sardi. We opted to share the latter as well as the conchiglie with mushrooms, fresh parsley and cream sauce. Wow, i could have had it all twice and still not have had enough, once again, you can taste them quality of the ingredients. We finished off with the tiramisu, which is definitey the best I have had in the US. Lovey atmosphere - perfect for date night. A small space that makes for a nice intimate environment. Man, the pasta tasted extremely authentic. You tasted every ingredient. The pizza was delicious as well - a lovely crust that reminded us of focaccia. The lumache was superb, would absolutely set it aside as a go to menu item. I went to Tonini with a friend and WOWOWOW. It was truly amazing. We got a special pepper dish to start and it was unreal--Jimmy Nardello, breadcrumbs, cheese, I was IMPRESSED. We also got two slices of pizza--the eggplant and the marg, both were awesome. Fluffy, chewy, crisp on the outside. The pizza Bianca is more of table bread and I'd def try that next time. We got the trevisano salad and they were able to make it vegetarian which was awesome. Love a breadcrumb. We split two pastas as well--the lumache (sort of a shell?) with corn because we were living for end of corn season vibes and that was great and perfectly Al dente, but, I will be DEAD on dreaming about the Capaletti. It's sort of a tortellini filled with Talegio and it's almost like fondue inside a pasta casing. It was rich, decadent, and INCREDIBLE. We had a spritz to start then some yummy Lambrusco. We sat at the counter and it was awesome--we got to see the inner workings of the kitchen and peep the dishes as they left. The ambience is cozy, small, friendly, special. So glad this gem recently opened in downtown JP! This was my toddlers first indoor dining experience, which went swimmingly well (thanks to the high chair provided, booth seating, the PBS kids app, and our very nice friends, who let my kiddo sit on their laps (no meltdowns occurred!) We really liked the food, ambiance, and service. DRINKS-- We all grabbed mixed drinks. I had the Bergamot Blush, which was really delightful- citrusy and floral from the yuzu and bergamot, and fizzy. We then split a bunch of food items. PIZZA BIANCA-- The ricotta with hot honey was a standout item- rich, lightly spicy, tangy, and a bit sweet-- so good with the bread. The eggplant caponata was also tasty. SMALL PLATES-- the fennel salad was refreshing and tangy. It was a nice counterpoint after the richer dips. PIZZA-- The margarita pizza was a surprise-- it had a thick crust that reminded me (texture wise) of focaccia- light and tender inside and crisp on the underside. This isn't the style of pizza I usually go for, but the flavors were good and the basil quantities generous. I enjoyed it more after adding a small sprinkling of salt. SPECIALS-- We finished with the butternut squash agnolotti, which had a browned butter and walnut sauce. The walnuts nicely contrasted with the sweet squash flavor. Wow wow wow 5/5!!! I know everyone has been raving about this place but as a local I wanted to see for myself and I was no disappointed. To start, the service is PHENOMENAL. Our waitress was the absolute best. The decor was so cute, I fell in love with the bathroom! Ok now the food. We got the pizza Bianca with side of ricotta and hot honey and we could not believe how great the bread was until we tried the ricotta and it was perfectly whipped and delicious. We then had the taleggio and rigatoni pastas, both really flavorful and fresh. We weren't very hungry so we went straight into the pasta after the pizza Bianca, however we should've had a salad because the pasta portions were a little lighter than we expected (how it should be but in America it's always so much). Tonino is fantastic! The food really blew me away. The flavors and textures of the pasta and bread were immaculate. The portion sizes are quite small, so we ended the night with a slice of pizza each, which were tasty but I didn't feel were particularly special - a much fluffier crust and less toppings, making it harder to eat. The cocktails and aperitifs were very unique and delicious, and the service was phenomenal. Everyone there was very kind and caring to us. I went with a party of four. We knew in advance that the menu is extremely limited, but the food is good. The cocktail portion of the drink menu is also extremely limited, and unlike most restaurants, they were unable to make any cocktails other than the four on the menu. We had four cocktails and they were good, a bit light, but nothing special. Wines by the glass are quite costly. The service was impeccable and our waitress extremely pleasant with a good sense of humor, and knew everything on the limited menu very well. The atmosphere is kind of sterile for my taste. Certainly not a homey, warm feeling you find in Italy or many Italian restaurants in the U.S. I had a small plate pizza as my first course. It was excellent. For my main course, I had the mushroom pasta dish. It was also very good, but not a large serving by any stretch of the imagination. The others seemed to enjoy their meals, but no raves. For dessert we got the tiramisu and spumoni to share. Both were excellent. We also ordered two after dinner drinks and a cappuccino. Total bill for four, including tip was about $335.00. I enjoyed the evening, might have liked more space between tables, but that is unlikely to change, as the restaurant is small. Make reservations. I'll probably try other places before I go back. All things considered, I think is was very good, not outstanding, but a bit overpriced. On the plus side, there are vegetarian and pescatarian options on the very limited menu. read more

They're very mindful of their ingredients--very fresh and it plays well with a good pairing of their carefully selected wines and cocktails. New spot opened up in JP 3 months ago. One of my foodie mates that joined us (and recommended) mentioned the chef/owner was previously at O ya and is top notch, and it shows! Great vibe, intimate restaurant, terrific staff that works well as a team and very attentive. While they don't have liquor, the wines were great. The food was absolutely outstanding.
