Honestly just don't waste your time or money. Apparently the ramen bar and sushi place that is CONJOINED are two different establishments that share a name. Upon walking in they asked " are you here for sushi or ramen"? Well both. Waitress looked annoyed and told us to "just sit". It wasn't until after we ordered and were ready to leave that we were told our card was going to be ran twice. Once for ramen and once for sushi. then had the audacity to ask "is that okay"? As if we had a choice. The ramen noodles are DISGUSTING!!! I'm talking under done mush. Such a shame cause the broth was actually good. Great place to stop by for some good ramen. Whenever a restaurant doesn't invest in menus and force you to scan the QR code and read the tiny print on your phone, they lose a star from me. It is not convenient for the customer and actually takes longer to order because you cannot see the entire menu at once. Luckily; since it is Ramen, the food arrives quite quickly. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen which was a bit expensive for Ramen and I had to pay extra to add corn. The ramen itself was good, not amazing. The egg was whole not cut in half, but still cooked right. The plaza is small and not a great amount of parking, but I came at a good time. Once you enter, it is quite dark in the front of the restaurant, since they put a cover/wallpaper over the front windows. Likely because of the summer sun in the evenings. Service was excellent, very friendly associate who helped me, big smiles and very attentive, making sure my water glass was full. That is important to me... :-) The gyoza; well, you can't really mess those up. The dessert was really good with the green tea ice cream strips on top of the sponge cookie, whipped cream on the outside. Very good, light and unique! Pretty expensive for what you pay for. Though their bowls have a lot of attributes that are in ramen, I would say this place isn't very authentic. Their broth was more on the salty side and their Tonkotsu and Miso broth tasted almost identical. I would also say the miso ramen did not come with a lot of protein. However, the service at this place was great! Everyone was really nice and the food came out fast. The server attended to us frequently and constantly checked to see if we needed more water. Delicious as always. This place is very mellow and relaxed for an atmospheric vibe, and the servers have always been kind and helpful for first timers. I ordered the karaage (fried chicken thighs) and the pork gyoza (potstickers) for appetizers, and they were served flaming hot and crispy and fresh out of the kitchen. Damn good, the both of them. Neither appetizer made it home, haha! For the entrée, I got their signature Tonkotsu ramen and it was delicious. I docked a store only because I prefer my pork belly on the softer side and this time it was a bit too firm for my liking, but I ate the whole bowl with no complaints. It's a great safe option for folks who want to avoid something spicy and want something savory. Be warned though: the bowls are deceptive. They don't look large, but they will fill you up for sure. If you want a great ramen spot, Tonkotsu is worth the attention! I'll continue to come as often as I can. The beef in the udon unpleasantly dissolved in my mouth, but everything else we ordered was good. This included the tonkotsu ramen and the Japanese creamy soda which we were surprised to find at the same price as you would at an asian grocery store. We were too full to even finish the gyoza. As I've mentioned in my previous review, their ramen isn't very authentic. Every bowl taste about the same except for their Beef Brisket Dry Noodle. About the only thing I went there for. Over the last couple of months I've been here, even their quality for that has gone down. The meat is less meat and more globs of fat. The price has increased by 15% since last year. Where other restaurants are focusing on quality (while balancing price) to keep their customers, Tonkotsu Ramen Bar wants their customers to be satisfied with an ever increasingly bland tasting menu, and cheap quality utensils. They went from good wooden chopsticks to cheap non-reusable chopsticks that break before you even use them. I think my last straw with this place is their lack of self-reflection and respect for the customer's money. Their automatic tipping recommendations start at 18%, 20%, 25%, and then **30%**. In Japan, Tonkotsu ramen is a comfort food. In West Valley City, 'Tonkotsu' has forgotten its roots and just wants your money. Despite this place being right near my home, I rather go further out, wait in traffic then visit here again. read more

The broth was watered down and the chicken Karrange was chewy and dry. It came out a few minutes after we ordered it so I know it was already made. There is also a 4% fee for using credit card that they don't disclose. What type of restaurants still pass this fee down to the customer? Lastly, there is a sign that says 15% off if you give them a 5 star review. So you def can't trust their ratings, even when incentivizing their customers they still have a subpar rating. Personal experience: The decor here is so beautiful. I went in while it wasn't busy and had such an amazing experience. They do have a QR code for you to scan so that comes really useful. This Ramen is delicious! The Best Ramen in Utah. I know friends from New Jersey that grew up in Japan and told their friends to come to Utah for this restaurant specifically! Been craving ramen and my wife and I decided to try out Tonkotsu. We started with the Takoyaki (octopus balls), and they were much more appetizing than they sounded. They did not have an overpowering fish-taste or smell and came topped with picked ginger. Tip: eat the takoyaki with the picked ginger. Also, the sauce complimented the octopus very well. 5/5 I ordered the Tonkotsu, and my wife the Curry Ramen. Sad to say, the ramen was a bit disappointing. The boiled egg was a bit cold, as if they were chilled before serving, the ramen wasn't as flavorful as we hoped, and the giant tonkotsu was dry. I would say this is slightly below Jinya ramen, but I like going here because there is no long wait and it's conveniently connected to their shabu bar next door in case I change my mind from wanting ramen :) The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty cool and service is always on point. We've pretty much tried a variety of things on their menu Takoyaki - pretty good, I like that the size of each ball wasn't huge and they gave you a good amount. Tebasaki - chicken wings were a decent size and I LOVE the sauce on it. If you've ever had San Tung's in SF the sauce is very similar and it's bomb. The wings were light and crispy when fresh. Would order again Gyoza - just like average gyozas Bulgogi fries - they sound better than they taste unfortunately. I thought the concept was cool, but I think it would be better if they had regular fries instead of waffle cut fries. The beef wasn't tender either. Beef & Shrimp Udon - I had high expectations since I was expecting it to be somewhat close to marugame udon. Not even close lol, but it's a good sized portion and the egg was poached perfect. Tonkatsu ramen is one of my favorite ramen bars in Salt Lake City. I only get one type of ramen here and it's the Tantanmen. It's their most spicy menu item but it's really not that spicy. The egg is perfectly soft boiled and the pork is always melt-in-your-mouth tender. The broth is heavier (in this item) but it's not overly heavy and it is possible to sip down to the bottom of the bowl. Environment/Service: Modern rustic. Nice ambient lighting during the day and low light at night. Great service and always friendly. FYI First timers: The "ladle" next to your chopsticks is indeed used as a spoon. Service was quick when we first sat down, but after we got our food no one really checked on us for drink refills or anything. Staff was friendly. We both didn't love the noodles, they were so tangly & hard to break apart. I had the veggie miso & overall I really enjoyed it! Flavors were great. I added an egg to it & the egg was cooked perfectly. The mushrooms were terrible though. I couldn't cut them & they were so rubbery. I kept wondering if it was octopus instead of mushrooms! I know it wasn't but it freaked me out enough that I pulled them all from my soup. My friend had the tonkotsu ramen. He loved the menma (bamboo shoots) in this dish. Our waitress was great with recommendations since Mom doesn't eat pork or beef, so we managed a bowl with a chicken broth base and a big piece of katsu chicken breast and then she was even able to substitute the ramen noodles for udon noodles. I explain I've never been there before, and she gave us a handful of pictures of some of the menu items along with a description of the most popular items on the menu. We ordered according to the pictures, and when our food came out, it look nothing like the pictures,and it tasted awful, I'm sorry to say. Curry came out barely lukewarm and the spices in the curry was barely present. Rice tasted soggy (too much water added when cooked). Katsu is bland and not crispy. The chicken wings was like the only good tasting dish. It was crispy and the sweet sauce paired well. The karaage dish tastes good with the dipping sauce,but without the sauce its ok tasting.
