I have not had the opportunity to eat sushi since the pandemic. So I thought I go out and treat myself. What we had there was failure to communicate. So when you face an insurmountable task you offer to your left and your right. I was sitting at the sushi bar. But even with help, I was s_ _ t outta luck. I always feel a bit disappointed when I go to a sushi restaurant and I'm served egg over rice. That is not my idea of sushi. The crab is imitation. It's scrod or the cuttings of the cod catch. Not my idea of fresh seafood. And I enjoy flying fish row. But usually as an extra. Not as a stand-alone item. So if I remember correctly 15 pieces of sushi would go home and probably go to waste. Other than that the balance was fantastic. And right now it is difficult to catch and keep fresh good quality fish and seafood. Still the best sushi restaurant in the area. read more

We have been looking for sushi restaurant to try and the reviews were promising. Tony's is a sushi and hibachi restaurant. Noted. We walked in and straight away there was an employee arguing with another near the hostess station. Not a very good first impression l. We were promptly seated the greeted by our waitress, "Bri". She was very friendly and attentive. We order our drinks and appetizers, fried dumplings and a miso soup. Both came out quickly by one of the staff. The Miso soup was warm and the ingredients were also undercooked. We sent it back and got another that was just right. We order our rolls, a 1volcano roll, 2 Ocala Rolls, and a Rainbow roll. The topping of the Volcano rolls was made of conch and was chewy. The Ocala roll was ok not much flavor and the Rainbow roll also lacked flavor. Overall it was not the worst we've had but not the best either. I would go back to try the hibachi, maybe. Otherwise, our search continues. TTFN. read more

I ordered the hibachi chicken and steak combo, the food was decent, however they are a little more expensive than Yamato's and the food is not as good. Of course this is just my opinion. I don't eat sushi so I can't critique the sushi bar. The service was slow as well. read more

We had dinner here February 3 and it was great! Leo was our chef and he did an excellent job showing his significant skills on the grill. Our food was perfectly cooked. Our server was Misty who took very good care of us. She was very prompt in taking our order and bringing our drinks and appetizers. We highly recommend this restaurant. Jordan the Server is one of the absolute best servers I've had in a very long time! He always checks up on you in a way that does not make you feel he's desperate but in a way that makes it seem like he really does care about your time here at the restaurant. sushi here is very fresh. service is always good. The rolls are creative and generous. The atmosphere is ok but the sushi is very good. We love sushi and eat it all over the country. Tony's does a solid job. It is 5 star for ocala but 4 star overall. The one negative is the hibachi smell does linger throughout the restaurant so your clothes and hair will have a little bit of an aroma when you leave. read more

The sashimi was warm but that was to be expected since it was in a bag with hot noodles. Overall was good. The yellowtail had a odd taste, I'm guessing like the container or where ever it was stored. Let's get the positive out of the way first. The sushi was pretty good and fresh tasting. Now, the not-so-good: they need a new dishwasher. Lipstick stains and chunks on the cocktail glasses and we heard another table asking for clean plates. Our waitress was either hard of hearing or completely unfamiliar with the menu. We had dinner tonight at Tony's and as usual the food was fine. Unfortunately my wife's meal came out fifteen minutes prior to mine. Now when I go out to have dinner with my wife, my plan is to have dinner WITH my wife. Our plan is not to watch each other eat because our waitress/restaurant staff can't coordinate the timing of two meals. I spoke with the manager and she continued to try to explain to me that the kitchen and the sushi area are two separate entities that don't coordinate food orders???? Hearing from the manager that this is standard procedure for their restaurant it appears I'll be eating sushi elsewhere so I will be able to have dinner with my wife and we won't have to eat in shifts. read more

I've been to Tony's Sushi more times than I can remember and am just now getting around to writing a review for it. I've had chicken, steak and shrimp off the grill and it was good, but if I had to only go with this then I think 4 stars would be all I could give this place. It's really the sushi that makes me add that 5th star. Tony's has been around a long time and has consistently been able to satisfy my sushi cravings. I'm not the only one they have satisfied over the 20 years I've been going there with my family. Both my kids would drop everything to get some tuna rolls, sashimi, and a variety of other great sushi if offered the chance. They always seem to have the everyday favorites fresh and ready to serve. The Rainbow Roll is one of the best around. The Tuna Lover plate is loaded with tuna specialties. The Sashimi assortment offers great variety of Chef's choice. If you're really hungry and with someone or 2, then the Sushi Boat has always been a good one. There is one issue, if you are looking to get those rare sushi finds like uni, quail egg, bonito, a variety of mackerel species, saltwater eel, and snapper you are not always going to get it here. However, they do have an extensive menu. Fear None, Love All, and Eat Well. read more

By far the worst dining experience in Ocala, by a large margin. Once upon a time, it might have been good, but those days are long past. Note that this review is for the table service side of the restaurant - we did not try the Teppanyaki side. Wife and I arrived just before 7pm on a Thursday night. Restaurant was moderately busy, but no one was waiting to be seated. The hostess said it would be a couple of minutes to prep a table, so we waited in the bar. The bar is tiny, maybe 12 ft square and directly opposite the hostess station. While sitting there waiting, over 15 minutes we watched 3 other parties come in after us, all without reservations, that were seated immediately. I brought this to the hostess's attention, and she finally seated us in an overflow part of the restaurant. No apology, no explanation... And the table was completely bare. 10 minutes later a waitress finally comes by. She drops off menus, but doesn't take a drink order. Instead, she heads over to another table near us and spends 10 more minutes chitchatting with them. I had to flag her down to get her to actually take our order. This goes on throughout the meal. We have to remind her to bring our drinks. We have to ask her for chopsticks and silverware. When our sushi finally comes out of the kitchen, it looks like it's been rolled by 5 year-olds. Uneven sizes, so loosely rolled they can't be picked up, and the individual orders dropped at our table randomly, not all together. The gyozas we ordered as an appetizer came out after we'd finished everything else. Finally it was time for the check. Once again, had to waive our waitress over from her never ending chitchatting at another table. She drops off the check but runs off and disappears before I can get my CC out. Disappeared as in 20 minutes later she still hasn't came back. At this point I'd given up, and got up planning to just pay at the bar on our way out. Suddenly she reappears, and tries to convince us how good everything is there, and that we had a great meal, all smiles. Zero tip. Zero stars. If you want sushi, you'll be much happier picking up some from the deli counter at Publix. Much higher quality food, and you won't have to put up with the absolutely abysmal service at Tony's. read more

Tony's has always been and will always be my favorite restaurant in Ocala. I have so many memories coming here for the past 10+ years, and every experience has been a positive one. The food is consistently amazing; even with the COVID-19 restrictions limiting them to outdoor seating and using plastic containers, the food still delivers with top quality. Their sushi is just so incredible... and that's coming from someone who is OBSESSED with sushi. During my most recent visit, we had the green lantern roll, G roll, and rock n roll with no rice. I love that they are able to modify the rolls in anyway you want, and they can basically create whatever concoction you can come up with. I also tried the salmon yakitori for the first time and it was beyond delicious. This will be a new "must" for me here. And I think all of the Tony's regulars know this, but their ginger salads and their fried rice are the absolute best of the best. If you're looking for "the spot" in Ocala, this is it. Food is very very bad. Our server James was charismatic and welcoming, but when we had to send back a few orders that were disgusting-- his manager/or the owner, was extremely disrespectful. My girlfriend and I shared an order of gyoza and an Ocala roll, had one bite each from both orders, and realized both orders were terrible. We asked to replace it with fried rice and when our check came, the gyoza and roll were still on it. James needed the manager to get it off and when she came to the table she was extremely rude saying this isn't a buffet and you can't try things then turn them away. We were in Ocala for 1 night. My daughter said she wanted sushi. Tony's popped up. The food wasn't bad at all. Service however lacked. The hostess looked like the could care less about seating us. Pointed to the corner and said you can sit there. We went to our table where no one came for over 10 minutes. When the waiter finally came he apologized and said that they shouldn't have seated me without letting him know. He did a good job after we met but it was a bit disappointing to have that experience. It's not terrible, but I'm not overly impressed either. I was very disappointed with the limited amount of choices on the sushi menu. Compared to most other sushi restaurants I've been to around the country, even Aki Sushi across town, there just is not a whole lot of sushi options to choose from here. The staff was friendly just not very attentive, but in their defensive they were a little busy. With all that said I must admit the sushi rolls were the best I have thus far in the Ocala area. Just overall a very average experience. Was initially told 30 minutes wait and had to wait almost an hour, and that was with a couple other left while waiting. I could eat sushi on any day that ends with "Y". I'm now a Spicy Conch Salad girl and I'll never look back. I love colorful sushi so I like to grab a Rainbow Roll. The restaurant was in need of remodel. Broken cabinets with no doors and clutter about. The service was poor and they forgot to cook my meal as my family ate. The food when it came was sub par and the hibachi show was also sub par compared to other habachi restaurants. The cost to eat there was high.
