Because of my vegetarian diet, I've never eaten in there but I've gotten lots of pastries and their famous banana "something" cake. Nostalgic. Well my latest purchase was a week ago. My mom has surgery and after picking her up, I wanted to get her chicken soup. After some searches, I decided to place an order at Too-Jay's. They have a great coupon they send out monthly which enticed me to give this place a try. Overall, the few times I have gone have been good. The staff is quick and the food doesn't take long to come out. I have eaten their sandwiches, salads, and main entrees and can say they are all good. My party came in around 12pm on a Friday and there were plenty of seats available. The wait staff were very quick and efficient. We ordered a brisket sandwich and a cuban grilled cheese. Both sandwiches came with coleslaw and a pickle, and the grilled cheese came with steak cut fries. We got both on Challah bread. While I understand completely the style of the restaurant and all, we were a little annoyed that the brisket sandwich was made in a way that the roll of meat was in the middle of the bread, leaving the sides to be empty and bare. Why can't they lay the brisket flat and fill the whole bread? There was no other sauce on this and it was simply just the brisket and bread. The brisket was good and flavorful, though. The cuban grilled cheese was interesting and definitely had a lot more flavor than the brisket sandwich. It was a little overly greasy, though, and the fries lacked any sort of flavor at all. For both, the coleslaw and pickle were great. We also got their signature cake, which is not an actual cake with sponge and all, but more so like a fudge pie. It was pretty good but it is incredibly thick and rich, so if that's not something you enjoy, try something else. Overall, the sandwiches were just okay, nothing insane but nothing bad. The mashed potato very little, and used cheese for some reason, some people want to enjoy the mashed potatoes, but what you taste is cheese. Toojay's is our go-to spot for deli (pastrami and corned beef) sandwiches. And nothing beats their matzoh ball soup and latkes. I especially love their liver and onions. The food always reminds me of the delis I frequented as a teen growing up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, in New York. It's not too private, with tables close enough where you may overhear conversation. But it is still a comfortable distance between diners. Service can be spotty, mostly it seems that one server handles a lot of tables simultaneously, which can lead to some waiting. Otherwise, workers are congenial. Prices have risen a lot since the pandemic with sandwich platters and entrees averaging around $18. read more

Easy parking in a huge parking lot. The business has outside seating which is dog friendly. Had a late lunch with my bride and entered a massive deli restaurant. Not busy at all since it was after 1pm. We sat immediately and was greeted by an energetic waitress named Tracey. We ordered the Reuben sandwich with french fries and cole slaw $15.49. The food was on the table within fifteen minutes brought over by the general manager who was very professional. The sandwich was dipped in Russian dressing and was excellent including the sweet cole slaw and the steak fries. The main restaurant was clean and each table was being monitored by a busboy named Taj who needs a raise because he was eye-balling the placement of every table for menus and silverware in addition to properly cleaning and sanitizing. The bathroom was spotless which usually shows pride in the business. We will return. read more

Well..here I am again. Was my friend's birthday and I reluctantly was dragged to TooJay's. I ordered what I always order... Pastrami on rye, steak fries with yellow mustard. When I saw the waitress ( Michelle I believe, very nice and attentive) bringing our food, I cringed and expected the same travesty as I'd gotten since covid. I looked at the meat..reddish..hmm.not gray! Touched it..kind of warm..not cold..hmmm. Put on a dab of yellow mustard, said 3 Hail Mary's and took a bite. I was instantly transported back in time. The Pastrami was tender soft and with just enough fat to give it a delicious flavor. Finally! Yaaaay! I don't know if they have a new cook or buy a better cut of meat, but whatever they're doing...KEEP DOING IT! I was shocked and extremely pleased. After 3 or years of horrible, cold, tough or rubbery Pastrami,their Pastrami FINALLY tastes as it use to! I recently ordered through Uber Eats after not having food from here in quite a while, and I was disappointed overall. The pastrami/corned beef sandwich, which used to be one of my favorites, was dry and noticeably smaller -- at least half the size it used to be -- and still priced at $19. The coleslaw side was tiny, barely a spoonful. The Banana Dream Cake, once a standout, was also underwhelming this time. It was dry, much smaller than I remembered, and at $9.95, it didn't feel like a good value. I really used to enjoy the food here and was hoping for the same quality. Very disappointing experience overall, despite good food. The restaurant was extremely slow, yet the service was inattentive. The waitress took a long time to bring water and handled the glass from the top where people drink. After our food was served, she inadvertently dropped one of the cucumbers and said she would bring another one . she did not come back to check to see if we needed anything. I waited about 10 minutes before I saw her again. I needed dressing, and reminded her about the cucumber. When we finished our meal and needed a box and the check, the waitress was again nowhere in sight. I had to get up and go to the cashier because I couldn't locate her. Other employees are not scanning the tables paying attention to see if customers make eye contact and need anything . Someone should always be on the floor watching if they're not busy. The cashier said the waitress would bring it, and I explained that I was at the counter specifically because I couldn't find the waitress. After paying, it took much longer than it should have for the change to be returned. During this time, I watched the waitress standing around talking to the cashier and another employee. It's a good thing they weren't busy--if she struggled this much with three tables on a slow day, she would have been overwhelmed during a rush. It was clear the server was not properly trained in food service. There were numerous employees present, most working on call-in orders, while several others stood mostly idle. Other noteworthy issues: the bathrooms were filthy, with floors black from dirt, and neither paper towel dispenser worked. I informed a waiter, but when I returned about half an hour later, there were still no paper towels available. Interestingly I saw a man who looked like the manager of the owner in a black shirt. He did look around and he did see me looking at him. We shared a long gaze. I was hoping he would someone over to see if we needed anything or indicate to me asking if I needed anything. But he didn't. And then he said goodbye to everybody and left. I would recommend the manager or whoever is responsible for the restaurant, take a walk through the restaurant regularly to check everything. Not assume everything is fine and left to the employees you probably don't think it's their job to clean the bathrooms, fill the paper towel holders or check on other people's customers who may not be getting attention from their server. I ordered to go two sandwiches, I had quite the distance to drive until I was able to sit down and eat them. I have to say that it was the most horrible corned beef that I have ever eaten. It was hard and chewy and because I was 45 minutes away from the destination I did not have time to turn around and go back to have them redo it. I switched out the coleslaw for potato salad and I probably should have kept the coleslaw as the potato salad was cold mashed potatoes seasoned as potato salad. YUCK! I ordered a pastrami sandwich and what I was served vs what the menu picture shows is a complete disgrace. If my sandwich was 3/4 of an inch thick it would be a stretch. I've been a customer here for over 15 years, always getting a sandwich at lunch and they are usually a decent size, however this was a joke. I even joked with the server about where the rest of my sandwich went. She didn't care, no one cared. I was completely disappointed and taken aback at how small this sandwich was and the fact they actually served it to me was a disgrace. Service was terrible. It took 15 minutes to get waited on and then 45 minutes to get our food. There were only 4 tables with people at the time. The waitress blamed it on the kitchen. The manager was nasty and was complaining about lack of kitchen help and wait staff. While we were there four tables got up and walked out. We stop in to Too Jay's quite often for breakfast and on this particular day, although we were a little closer to lunch time, they still accepted our breakfast order. What's better than having a mimosa for brunch in the middle of a work week? (I wasn't working! Shhhhhh ) The boyfriend usually just has eggs, bacon, and coffee. I started off with the Nova Latkes, which were three yummy, tiny, Crisp potato pancakes topped with smoked Salmon, sour cream, arugula, diced red onion and capers. I love Too Jay's. They have a great variety of food. My favorites are their matzo ball chicken noodle soup and potato pancakes. They are the best. crunchy on the ends and soft in the middle. Their matzo ball soup has home cooking flavor. You have try this place. The desserts alone are reason to come in and rest awhile. But their potato pancakes are my favorite dish. Went lunch time. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all. The waitress was nice. I had the Cobb Salad and it was very good. The other two people, one had soup and half of a pastrami sandwich. Every time I take my mom to one of her appointments which is in the vicinity of this place, she mentions eating here. Being a big Yelper, I wasn't blown away by their reviews and always thought we could do better. My mom was adamant on a corned beef sandwich, so we gave it a shot. I was very pleasantly surprised. My Rueben was very good, and even better were the mini potato pancakes! My mouth is watering now thinking about them and it's been over a month since we ate here.
