The Salted Carmel old fashion has a good flavor, although I purchased it toward the later afternoon and it was just ok. By that time, the donut was soft, no longer had a fried crispness to it, and the frosting was no longer fresh. If anything, it could pass as a day-old donut. It was surprising how not fresh it was. But because it really did have a good flavor, I still give 3 stars. But if their donuts really lose it's fresh crispness that quickly, maybe they should consider making them throughout the day as opposed to just in the morning. I assume it was made in the morning so I can't really say it wasn't made throughout the day, but the fact that it really did taste like it could have been a day old, it just wasn't worth my money. read more

Arrived in Seattle and looked for the closest coffee shop We decided Top Pot would be the one... I was not even expecting to get latte art but there was a beautiful rosetta poured into my cortado. After speaking with the friendly barista behind the bar I was given a little history about the brand and I was impressed to hear that they roast their own beans in the back of the shop. I liked the donuts but it was not my favorite part of the experience. Looks really nice inside! Almost like a library. There was no line so that was nice, I was able to try a salted caramel old fashioned donut, maybe I should have just stuck with glazed, but I wanted to try something slightly unique. There wasn't anything wrong with the donut, it was definitely what I ordered, so I got what I bargained for, some strong thick caramel sugary sweetness with a hint of salt. As for the texture of the donut, I'm not really picky, to be honest I can eat any donut, but it felt like for an old fashioned, it was pretty soft and moist... maybe... maybe that's how old fashions are supposed to be? If you are looking for a herbal medicinal dispensary, then you are in the wrong place. Unless donuts are the cure for your ailing needs, it's better to keep on walking son! Top Pot Doughnuts is located on 5th Avenue in the Denny Triangle of Downtown Seattle. It was right across the street from where we stayed (Hotel Five) so it was very convenient for us to get to. Most customers I noticed, walked there. I guess there's not much need to drive in the downtown area. There's a small lot past the building though I'm not sure it's only for other businesses. When you first walk into Top Pot, all you notice are the floor to ceiling bookshelves on either side of the shop. You immediately realize that this isn't an ordinary doughnut shop. Then I saw on a sign that this was THE official donut of the Seattle Seahawks. Well, if it's good for the Seahawks, then it's good enough for me. This was truly a godsend for us cuz it was the place where we got our morning breakfast at each morning when we were in Seattle. Yes, donuts every morning isn't the healthiest choice, but dude, we are on vacay so anything goes! I tried their famous Ovaltine Latté one time but it was too sweet for me. It's kind of like a hot chocolate. The same with their famous Ovaltine Cream-Filled Donut. I stuck to their Original Glazed and Raspberry Raised Donuts. They were light and fluffy. read more

Sorry to be negative, but I consider myself a connoisseur of doughnuts(and I have the physique to prove it) and have heard so much about Top Pot. I was finally downtown and bought a couple today. What a disappointment. First, the selection was pathetic; any corner doughnut shop does better. I bought a glazed doughnut (a "Glazed Ring") and a glazed old fashioned. The glazed doughnut was terrible: thick, heavy, doughy, unevenly glazed. I tossed most of it out the window as I drove I-90 East. The old fashioned was better, but still not especially tasty and was almost stale. I didn't finish that one either. Honestly, I can get better doughnuts at Safeway and literally every other dedicated doughnut shop I have tried in Puget Sound (and all of L.A.) is far superior. Disappointed! I use this place a lot as my AM coffee and breakfast office. I love the upstairs loft. The seating and view here is great. The black coffee is great and their doughnuts are fresh and quite large / good. Now what would be better? When I dine in and get more than one doughnut they don't have a great way to serve it. I leave the counter with one doughnut on a plate, and another in a bag or stacked on top mixing the jam. Why not just give ma a tray with a doughnut on individual plates, or one larger plate? Am I such an alien ordering 2 doughnuts? Does every other customer only order one - making me a rare customer case? Also I would like to see them have a few more savory options. This doughnut shop was a mere 1/2 block walk from our hotel. We passed it several times a day. We're typically NOT early risers, especially on vacation but we did have one day we were getting up earlier to drive to Portland. We decided that would be the day we tried the doughnuts here. Their pricing system is color coded for individual doughnuts. Otherwise, you buy a pack and there is one price. We decided to splurge and get a 6 pack for our 3+ hour drive to Portland. This allowed us to sample more doughnut goodness. At least I did that. My guy decided to get all Boston Cream for his 3 selections. He says he'd do it again. My choices were: plain glazed, Pink Feathered Boa (a pink iced doughnut with liberal layer or coconut) and chocolate raspberry glazed. Top Pot Doughnuts are LEGIT. Excellent full-bodied flavors. Soft with just enough chewiness. These aren't the absolute best doughnuts we've ever had but they are high quality and a great choice. We're fans. The part of our purchase we wouldn't repeat was the hot chocolate. We both got their largest in to-go cups, thinking we'd sip them during the trip. We took a couple sips during our walk back to the hotel and these went down the drain in our room. We ended up having our doughnuts with water. The doughnuts are 4 Stars, easy. The service here was great! We were greeted upon arrival and the cashier/server answers all our questions so nicely. We ended up getting the old fashioned glaze, chocolate cake maple, and ovaltine latte. The old fashioned glaze tasted like a regular glazed donut but it wasn't super sweet even though it had a heavy layer of glaze on top. The dough was also really nice because it was stretchy and spongey like cheap donut shops. The chocolate cake maple had a really nice chocolate base that wasn't too sweet as well so it paired well with the maple frosting. The ovaltine latte smelled delicious - like hot malt chocolate but it just ended up tasting like espresso with a hint of chocolate. It was good but I didn't think it was super great, I would habe preferred a regular latte but the ovaltine latte was unique and we had to try it. Overall, the donuts were good but a little pricey ($1.30-$2.80). I would come back if I was in the area and craving donuts but I wouldn't seek out this place. I have been to this Top Pot Donuts twice at 8:10am and there were 15+ people in line. There are 4-5 people working the counter and the line does move. The donuts are good and they do have a wide array of choices, I usually get the donut with pink icing and sprinkles on it. More like 3.5 stars. My husband and I were in Seattle for the day and wanted to try some local doughnuts. I had previously bookmarked Top Pot and I wanted to give it a try. Bavarian cream-filled, old-fashioned, or apple fritters are all sensational! They also excel in not making greasy doughnuts. During our first visit, we planned on purchasing just one doughnut a piece. That quickly turned into two, then a worker convinced us to get three each. What do we do when another doughnut shop posted a notification that they're out of doughnuts?! You make a stop at Top Pot. My co-worker recommended this place to me and told me that my friend and I should mention that we are first-timers at the store because supposedly we get a doughnut for free. Well, it wasn't the case because we didn't get any free doughnut but it's all good. This establishment has a second floor where there are more tables and chairs to sit at and enjoy your doughnut or continue doing some work. My friend got an Oreo doughnut while I got a Chocolate glaze with custard filling doughnut. My doughnut was just okay and I had a piece of my friend and his was better, lol. What I do like about this place were the merchandise and decoration in the store. We chilled here until it was time to go to Pike Place. I love the floor-to-ceiling front window and bookcases inside and the view of the trees and monorail right outside. My husband and I fell in love with this doughnut shop.
