Boy, Top Sushi was an interesting experience. I can honestly say I haven't been to a place like this in a long time... It's small -- ridiculously small. Happy Hour is served all day for dine-in customers. Sake is $1.95, which seems to be a big draw. Cut rolls are a dollar more than the hand rolls. As far as appearances go, Top Sushi seeks to make the best out of a sketchy situation. The exterior is unassuming and dark. Inside, there's a narrow walkway that leads to a narrow strip of tables and a sushi bar. It's stuffy and humid. There's nice lights to add to the otherwise plain decor. Booths and floor are kept relatively clean, but there's a few cracks and tears here or there. Patrons cross-mingled with each other. Plenty of parking in the lot. To order, you're given a laminated menu and a set of dry erase markers. Simply check off which items you'd like to order. Descriptions and prices are on the back. I've never seen this done elsewhere and let me say -- I loved it. Cute idea. Here's what we ordered -- all off the Happy Hour Menu: SALMON CUCUMBER HAND ROLL - $4.95 - My favorite... I get it wherever I go. - Salmon were cut into little cubes and some pieces had skin on them, but the fish was good and the rice made it filling. - Ended up ordering a second round. ALBACORE ONION HAND ROLL - $4.95 - Lots of white onion with a handful of albacore cubes. - You can barely taste the fish -- the onion was so strong. - Least favorite hand roll that we ordered... YELLOWTAIL SCALLION HAND ROLL - $4.95 - So much scallion, so little time. - Yellowtail was so good! - Filling and delicious. MISO SOUP - $1.95. - Good filler option, but the soup was strictly miso broth and diced scallions. - Not on the Happy Hour Menu, but a nice deal. GARLIC ALBACORE SASHIMI - $7.95. - Five thin slices with chunks of fried onions in a delish sauce. - Albacore was okay... decent deal. - Fried onions were amazing! SALMON CARPACCIO SASHIMI - $7.95. - Five thin slices with sprouts and some sort of veggie (leek or cucumber?) underneath. - Drowned in ponzu, which was quite good. YUZU YELLOWTAIL SASHIMI - $7.95. - Five thin slices with sprouts and an amazing yuzu sauce. - Best sashimi on the Happy Hour Menu. Favorite item of our meal. ...our total for two was almost $70. Woah. For the quality and portions, that's a bit much. Still, it's rare to see sashimi on a Happy Hour Menu. Plus, the Yuzu sauce was superb. Good on you, Top Sushi, for setting yourself apart from the competition. A pleasant experience, overall. The sushi chefs and server were quite friendly, which ultimately helped this Yelper pick between 3 or 4 stars. I'd give it a 3.5 otherwise. Love this spot!! I ordered pick up the first time and the sushi and rolls tasted amazing! I came back again to dine in (outdoor seating) and food was still amazing, their service was even better. I really enjoyed the lobster rockstar roll which is pretty much fried crawfish over a California roll. Their squid nigiri was also very good, and salmon were fresh. I ordered the California roll, Spicy Tuna roll uncut, the Philadelphia roll- cream cheese, avocado, cucumber and asparagus, salmon, and the miso soup. I don't know if it's because of the shut down or...? The entire meal seemed off, the fish didn't taste fresh and the miso soup was just sad. I will say that the customer service is great the lady who greeted me was very nice and friendly. I've been coming here since 2019 and all I have to say is even after all those years their quality of service and food quality hasn't changed. The fish is always fresh and the waiters are very attentive. If you don't like hole-in-the-wall places, this place is not for you... but if you love a good hidden gem I highly recommend! Upon first impression I was a little nervous because this place doesn't look like anything special from the outside and there was only one other couple at the restaurant when I arrived (6pm on a Monday)... But I decided to trust the Yelp fam and all the positive reviews so I took a seat at the sushi bar. Sushi Chef Josh recommended the Blue Fin Tuna, Samon Belly, and Albacore Belly (and for the record I recommend all of those too)!! They were all great but the albacore was my favorite. Let me start off by saying that I was told I would receive a phone call once my order was ready, and after waiting for over an hour I finally called them back to find out that my order had been sitting there ready to go for who knows how long. I picked up my order of cucumber avocado rolls (which were very overpriced at $8 when it's typically $4-$6 at even high end sushi places) and my order of edamame which was $7 (again super expensive but I figured it would be a good size order). I get home to see that the edamame order is literally so tiny it shouldn't have cost more than $1. It also tastes like supermarket microwaved edamame. I called the restaurant thinking they made a mistake, but sure enough they did not. I asked for a credit towards another order because there's no way charging $7 for a few pieces of edamame is acceptable, and they refused to do anything about it. If you want to get sushi, there's literally tons of other places in the valley that are way better priced and much bigger portions as well as higher quality. I will never be going here again. Edit: After eating two pieces of my cucumber avocado sushi I have been throwing up for several minutes.
