Great place for Japanese dishes, sushi, or just food in general. I love the music choices, chill atmosphere, and the servers they provide at Top Sushi. I always come with my girlfriend and we always leave happy and stuffed. I actually work at a sushi restaurant and it's good and all, but I will always prefer to go to Top Sushi. Food is just amazing. I always get new sushi rolls to try new things and am never disappointed. The best fried rice they provide is the seafood fried rice. First time trying it, it felt like I was eating heaven itself. There is a server in particular my girlfriend and I love to have as our server. I don't know her name, but she looks either Hispanic or Asian or mixed with Hispanic and asian. This place is incredible! I found myself dining here after moving to the area based on yelp reviews. We had the king casper, super crunchy, push, and steak & shrimp rolls. Maybe I came on a very bad day because these high reviews didn't match up to my experience. My party of four was seated at the first booth close to the bar. The first thing we see is the wall is dirty...very dirty. Food particles stuck to the wall clearly the walls have not been cleaned in a while. We were so tired from the previous day we just decided to eat anyways. The food comes out and my roll isn't even properly rolled. The bottom on the entire roll wasn't sealed so the whole thing came undone. Come to find out similar issues on the other rolls we ordered. The chicken teriyaki came out and literally looked like a bland chicken breast that they squirted some teriyaki sauce on...this was some of the worst sushi I've had in a while. We were too exhausted to even complain. I think Kroger would have been better. Maybe we came on a bad day.. i don't know? But seriously at least clean the damn place. 2 stars because our waitress was nice and attentive. read more

I normally don't leave reviews but I feel I have to. Today was my first and last visit to Top Sushi. Everything went well..until the end. When the check came, the server informed us that the gratuity had been added to our bill....I didn't think restaurants did this anymore unless it's a large party (We were a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids all over the age of 8). We politely asked the server to explain why he did that and he said that each server has the discretion to add their tip to a bill to ensure the customer leaves one. In our case, the server gave himself 20% (which we would have paid regardless because the service was good). The problem with this is that he took away our right to tip. He took it upon himself to, figuratively, reach into my pocket and take my money without my consent. I thought it's up to the customer to tip accordingly? I realize that not everyone tips or tips well but the fact that he judged us as potentially non-tipping customers is insulting. I've never had this happen to us and my first impression of Top Sushi is my last one. I won't be visiting again. I hope the owner realizes that this practice might chase customers away. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by here for lunch after school. We ordered two california rolls, a spicy yellowtail roll, and spicy crawfish roll. It took almost 30 minutes to receive only the california rolls, which would be understandable if they were busy but there were 2 other people in there. The california rolls were good, cant go wrong there. Another 10 mins passed and we got the last two rolls. My spicy crawfish roll was atrocious.. the crawfish was dry and fishy. Tasteless. I had to spit out the small bite I took I couldn't manage to swallow. When my boyfriend tried his spicy yellowtail he said it didn't taste right and looked like it had been sitting out for too long.. When he asked what looked like the manager for our check because we were not going to eat the rolls, the man didn't ask what was wrong he just walked away and got us our check. He tried to charge us for our full meal when we were clearly unhappy with the rolls. I got up and asked for it to be taken off and explained what was wrong with both rolls. He didn't apologize or say a word he took my check and that was it. I wouldn't come back here because of the unpleasant experience I had. read more

If I could give a zero I would, our server up and left in the middle of our meal, the manager was slow to respond, then the the server we were given took my credit card and said she never received it. After I told her I gave it to her she said I didn't still it and never got a manager. Sushi is good and they have a great selection of rolls. Service is average, if the place is full, expect to wait a long time for service and food. The servers do try I just don't know if they are under staff or poorly trained, but I do see the servers try. My issue might seem small but it does bother me, they charge you $2 for ponzu sauce and $2 for spicy mayo. Most average places I've been, never charge for it and they serve you plenty of this. Here besides the fact that they chrge for this, they serve it to you as it was the last bit on earth....for $2 I should get more than a drop for this sauces.... Issue #2 if you order chicken Teriyaki it comes with white rice, if you decide to upgrade to fry rice you have to pay extra, which I am totally fine with. The issue is when they charge you half price of a full order of fry rice for the upgrade, nevertheless they serve you a cup ration. I hate stingy places and I think the owner is trying to make money in the wrong way...Quality Service and Quality food will keep clients. I only come here when I am too lazy to drive all the way to Toro down on 290/1960 and when I order is to go I won't stay there an give them more of my business out of principle. read more

Pay close attention to the headers on the happy hour menu. We had a small group and there was some confusion as to hand rolls vs sushi rolls (with the same name)being on the happy hour menu. Some sushi rolls were ordered that were at full price. I mentioned it to the manager and suggested that there staff clarify when discussing the happy hour specials. He proceeded to tell me that they didn't want to do that because it would imply that we are poor. The discussion continued with nothing but Insults to my group. The manager is very young and inexperienced in matters of customer service. Completely disappointed with how he handled the situation. On a side note, the ambiance is pretty nice and the fish tank keeps the kids entertained. I've always been annoyed that they don't have a changing table in the restroom. Very good sushi! We tried several and all of them were fabulous. Nice set up. My only complaint would be how incredibly loud it is in there. I am ok with noise but when you have to constantly lean forward and repeat yourself to your table of friends, it gets old. Rolls are often poorly constructed and falling apart. Yes before you jump to conclusions I do genuinely know how to eat sushi with chopsticks and have been doing so for years. I came here for the late night happy hour. It was packed. The area of town they are in is longing for places like this. Somewhere for adults to go out at night that isn't a nice drive. I'm comparing this place to RA Sushi who also has late night happy hour. I'm not a fan of their sushi. It was different that what I was used to, which is fine. However it didn't taste fresh and lacked a bit in flavor. RA sushi has better happy hour food prices. RA also beats them in the happy hour drink deals. They have more options. No! Don't let the (questionably) high rating fool you. If you want quality sushi, this Is NOT the place to eat. First, I order a roll wrapped in cucumber, which was my bad I guess, but it was very poorly constructed it shouldn't have made it to the menu. The cucumber was thick and hard to chew; my gums hurt after eating it. Second, we ordered a roll under the 'Cooked' section, the Philidelphia. It's not cooked, it's just made with smoked salmon, the roll isn't heated at all! This 'Cooked' section is confusing to people that don't want to eat raw rolls, because they will still get a semi raw roll with some selections. Speaking of raw, we ordered 2 pieces of salmon sushi, which was just average; there was a tiny clump of rice under it. Eh. THIRD, the pickled Ginger and wasabi looked Fake! The ginger looked like think sliced salmon, the color was not right, and the wasabi was Very light green/white ish unlike any I've seen before. And lastly, the presentation.... We ordered to go and they just threw both rolls in a large Styrofoam container like they were leftovers! It's sushi, not fish and fries! :( P.s. Put more avocado in your Philly rolls. After reading the reviews, I was really excited to try the reverse happy hour. The food was good. The service was ok. She ended up disappearing for a while towards the end. Read the special page carefully. I made a mistake in ordering rolls which I thought was on the specials but it ended up being the hand rolls of the same name instead. I really wish the server would of said something since I was ordering pretty much off the specials page. I didn't find this out until I got the bill. Another reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars was because they added a 20% gratuity for a family of 5. Seriously? Two adults and 3 kids is considered a large party? No where did I see a mention of added gratuity on the menu for parties of a certain number. So if you go in with a group of 5 or more, I would be forewarned. As good as the food may be, I won't be back unless it's by myself. Way too expensive for a reverse happy hour especially with a 20% gratuity that I didn't think was earned. read more
