Easy as 123 1 Ordered online for pick up in the afternoon We ordered a Full Steamer, Low Tide for 3 of us. Picked it up from there very clean store and the staff, very friendly, asked if we'd been before, asked about our stove and advised us on the best way to cook the steamer. They also give us a card with all the instructions on too 2 Cook Pop off the lid, take out the shrimp, add 2 cups of water or beer, lid back on, glass electric stove, hi for 40 min. Add shrimp and seasoning, back on for 7 min. Drain and I put it all into a tray 3 Eat Food was excellent, cooked perfectly just by following the instruction card and went down a treat with a good beer. Crab legs were nice and sweet, shrimp firm and clams salty, all as should be Quality sausage, fresh potato's and the corn was some of the best according to my daughter, high praise indeed We all had enough to eat and there was leftovers too I would recommend for anyone to give Topsail Steamer a try, good food at a reasonable price. Stopped by today based on some positive yelp reviews. Our first trip to Topsail and we have had a lot of okay meals. My wife would not let me order pizza one more time. Ordered the full steamer bucket for 2-3 and added scallops. It was more than my wife and I could eat. I also liked that the seafood was fresh and local. This was the first meal we had in the area that was very good. Also bonus points for easy prep/cook and the fact that we could enjoy the meal while enjoying some beers and the ocean. What an awesome idea and done right. This was the highlight meal of our trip. All we had to do was go on a nice ride and pick it up. They also were so nice and helpful. Everything was included with perfect instructions on what to do (tip: make sure your rental has crab shell crackers before your pick up and buy some here if needed). The seafood was so fresh and the seasoning dead on. It was fun just cooking it in the bucket they gave us and sitting on the porch watching the ocean and enjoying a cold one. What a great option while at Topsail. We were pleasantly surprised that this placed had popped up since we'd last been to Surf City. We had ordered the scallops, king crab legs, sausage, potatoes, and shrimp. Everything was very fresh and surprisingly easy to prepare. We did struggle using the container they gave us on the glass top stove at the home we were staying in. Fortunately the home also had a very large pot because we ended up having to use that to actually warm it up. We gave it a good hour in the original container (it has a small lip on the bottom preventing the heating element from actually making contact with the container) before realizing our issue. Once corrected, we were eating in no time. The old saying is true in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. It won't be your cheapest meal but it very likely will be your best. Topsail Steamer is a genius concept. Like the 'Chipotle' of the steamed seafood business. All you do is pick the fillings for your steam pot (they have a pretty extensive menu of delicious seafood and sausage combinations, or you can build your own), order it online or by phone, and when you pick it up at your designated time, it's ready to be re-heated in the pot it comes in. Genius! The presentation of the pot alone is enough to draw ooooh's and aaaaah's from even the most discerning seafood critics! The large pot is generously sized, so to feed a group of 9 adults just one large pot did the trick, but we had to add extra corn and potatoes. It comes with cocktail sauce and butter, but we found ourselves needing an extra bottle of cocktail sauce to make sure everyone was satisfied. I also recommend serving it with a crusty french bread to dip in some of the melted butter....because, well, BREAD. :) In our pot we chose a mixture of crab and clams, choosing to add our own andouille sausage on the side because some of our group does not eat meat (i.e., are pescatarian). I don't know if they will separate the sausage on the side for you, so if you have some that want it and some that don't, just stick to seafood in your pot and pick up some local delicious sausage to toss under the broiler yourself (sheet pan + foil underneath = zero mess, still!). Ordering online was super simple - you can choose your pick up time right up until they close, but I would recommend picking it up about 1 to 1.5 hours before you plan to eat to account for travel and reheat time. Overall, Topsail Steamer makes it way too easy to enjoy fresh, steamed seafood - if we had stayed any longer in Surf City, we definitely would have tried it again....and again...and again....! Overpriced and cooking time is way too long. Got the most expensive bucket and cooked per instructions. Potatoes had mushed into clams which were over steamed. Crab legs were so so. Let me tell you my story.... We visited Topsail for the week, and were excited about trying a steamer for the first time. While reviewing the menu and being a lover of all seafood, I was particularly interested in some local Blue Crab. When I reviewed their menu of offerings, I was surprised (stunned really ) that they didn't offer Blue Crab with their steamer pots. Instead Snow Crab is available, and of course that is already cooked and shipped frozen( from somewhere? ). I came to Topsail for the full blue crab experience.... This is what we did. I picked up the "Low Country Shrimp Bay Bucket (High Tider)". In this bucket there is quite a bit of room at the top, about ¾ of the volume of the bucket available. Then we headed over to the awesome guys at Surf City Crab and picked up 16, #1, LIVING, feisty, Blue Crab @ $25 a dozen. The crew at the Topsail Steamer gave us direction on how to cook the live crab with the rest of the pot we picked up. The suggested cooking change was, Steam the "core", (potatoes, corn, and kielbasa), for 30 mins, add the crab for 10 minutes, then remove the crab and continue normally with the shrimp. We followed this to the second. The result was a little mixed but yet delicious. Here is how things came out and some additional details. I put the crabs on ice for about an hour to temper the fight in them. Despite the cooling treatment there was still quite a bit of energy left in them. I wore gloves to pluck them out of the bag, but they 'stick' together and I was lifting two and three at a time, making it hard to get them in the pot. I added about 10 to the pot. Unfortunately this was too many crabs. After steaming them for the prescribed 10 minutes, some of the crabs were still undercooked or quite raw. FYI, I steamed the other 6 crabs in another pot. The shrimp came out great, for the most part. I would recommend giving the shrimp a stir half way through to make sure they are all cooked evenly. The corn was a little mushy. Perhaps, with the total cooking time becoming 50 minutes and not properly adjusting the time for the crab is the cause. I didn't try the potatoes. The Kielbasa was F A N T A S T I C !!! I would love to get some of that even without the steam pot meal From my experience, as I type this, with my raw and dried out fingers from having to 'shuck' the 16 crabs resulting in about a cup of meat, and needing to google the risks of eating under-cooked crab, I HIGHLY recommend that you just stick with the Snow Crab that is offered at the fabulous Topsail Steamer. It's certainly what I will be doing next time. read more

Ok, if you're reading this right now and contemplating whether you should spend the money and do it then let me stop you right here and say, "Yes. Yes. YES." You may be balking at the cost, but let me tell you that when you factor in no server to tip, no high priced drinks to buy, no wondering if you're going to have crappy service, etc. this is a great value over a traditional sit down restaurant! My family had the best time with this- it was fun and delicious! Plus, we sat on our own deck with an amazing view and could savor our meal without being hassled by the kids when they were done. We got the high tider (that's the large size) of the low country bucket, added one dozen clams and an extra pound of andouille sausage plus corn and potatoes for two additional people. It was far more food than eight hungry people could eat! We expected everything to be amazing but the sausage was definitely the surprise of the night- delicious! Because we already had some snow crab legs we'd picked up from a local seafood market we cooked that separately but I'm sure TS crab would have been awesome as well. The people that worked there were super friendly and informative and genuinely seemed 'happy' doing what they were doing. We contemplated doing it again during our trip and will definitely return on our next trip to Topsail. read more

WOW!! What a great place to get seafood prep for your kitchen and you to cook! As residents of surf city we have only seen the TOPSAIL STEAMER but having access to so much seafood locally I choose to get from a friend who owns a co. My wife had recently heard from one of her clients/friends that this place was very good and convenient and the seafood is excellent. We did pick up a bucket with 2 pounds of crabs 1 pound of shrimp and two dozen oysters which we added a half pound of scallops! And it cooked up as easy as they said! Basically depending on your stove they will very clearly explain multiple times how to complete the cooking process! Basically put 2 cups of water or a beer and a cup of water or whatever you would like and put on the stove since we have a glass top for 40 minutes on high and if you have raw seafood's such as shrimp, scallops,Lobster etc. you replace into the pot for the additional 9 minutes maximum. Dump it out and enjoy! And when I say enjoy I mean in joy! It was amazing the seasons and spices for the bucket or put in all you do is add a little packets if you want it a little more seasoned which they provide! I was super impressed and the process was so easy! We will definitely be going back it's not cheap but it is SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! They have many options and scenarios which everything is 100% gluten-free and they also carry Paradise provisions which is in another similar type of company to prepare snacks and drinks with mixes ready to pour. They told us we could add whatever liquids we wanted so I chose to add a lemon truly with an omission pale Ale beer with the seasonings they applied to the bucket we had an unforgettable amazing dinner last night! I don't think you could add anything that would make this taste bad unless you really tried! Hope you love it like we did! One tip is maybe grab two rolls of paper which they do provide but of course when you dump everything onto it it gets wet and soggy and falls apart when you go to clean up! 55 gallon trash bag underneath the paper would be a better bet!
