Finally got a chance to check out Torchy's Taco this afternoon. There was a very long line upon walking in but it went quickly. I ordered the Migas and the Democrat taco. I originally wanted the Baja Shrimp but unfortunately they were out of shrimp. I asked the cashier, who was very friendly, for any recommendation and she suggested about 4 different options. I decided on the Democrat. The tacos were HUGE. The Migas alone was enough for one meal for myself. The only negative thing I can say about both tacos were the avocado which wasn't ripe at all and pretty hard. I highly recommend ordering a side of the avocado sauce. It was creamy with a bit of a kick. I'll definitely be coming back for the Baja Shrimp taco and the bar! read more

I arrived here after a hectic morning of travel, and it hit the spot. I got the Baja Shrimp and Trailer Park taco, and both were solid. Only odd thing I noted is that they didn't melt the cheese; they just threw on cold shredded cheese as if you just bought it from the grocery store which I found odd. I also would not recommend getting a burrito bowl; they're shockingly small. The airstream salad on the other hand, is surprisingly large, so it's worth a try if you're in the mood. read more

They weren't the best tacos I've ever had but I do love the portions they serve and it is very filling. Also the queso they provided with the chips for the appetizer was a great portion. Not going lie I wasn't expecting my visit to be a disappointment. I ordered the specialty coconut shrimp taco and the the cashier asked if there was any food allergies I said no pork please but later found out the coconut shrimp was made with pork bacon. Also I was charged for fountain drinks which I had to go back and ask later and never received the elote I paid for. Torchy's was an awesome experience during my first visit to Austin! Got the trailer park (fried chicken, green chiles, pico, lettuce) and the Brushfire (with Jamaican jerk chicken with this awesome Diablo sauce, jalapeños, and mango and sour cream). Both of the tacos were so tasty, and huge. I honestly only had those two and shared some queso and chips. Honestly, the queso may have been the best part of it all. Tasty! Super quick and easy if you're staying in downtown Austin. But. This isn't a place you should go to if you're expecting authentic Mexican fare. The tacos I got were the Trailer Park, and the Republican. One had fried chicken and the other was hot links. Super delicious! I got the chips and queso which was AWESOME. But overall I was left with the thought of "man, that didn't taste like the Mexican tacos I'm used to in Vegas" and that's because they weren't. Torchy's is that spot you go to after a long night out and it hits that spot. But I implore you to try a more authentic taqueria or Marisco spot if you're looking for more traditional Mexican food. Everything you order from here is going to be good! I walked in starving. The place was cleaned and filled with folks on the left not many near the bar. I walked up to the counter and couldn't see the menu so the chashier, super friendly, gave me a menu. I asked about the avacado taco and he said it became his favorite after passing it up for years. I ordered it and the Baja shrimp taco because we'll if you mess those up there's no return. I ordered a regular strawberry margarita because I need a drank. He gives me an electronic table marker and I ask if I can sit anywhere? He says yes, I say, the bar too? He smiles and says yes. Cool! I head over to the window seat by the bar. After that other people started pulling up. They had the baseball game on and it felt perfect. The bartender hands me my drink in 5 mins. My food comes in 10 mins. I go for the shrimp then muster up the energy for avacado. When I tell you that avacado taco was the best thing I've had!!! I knew then it was over for me. I finish up my food and go back to the front before they close at 10. I ordered the same things to go with a side of churros instead of the margarita. I ordered a to-go bag! I visited Austin years ago and Torchy's Tacos was the first stop on the food tour. My friends attended UT for their undergraduate studies and basically lived on Torchy's, and I totally understand why. So delicious and satisfying! Since that trip, I've always returned to Torchy's each time I visit Austin. The breakfast tacos are amazing - #2 Potato, Egg, and Cheese is my favorite. This place has a good reputation, and for a reason - it's freakin' delicious. The tacos here are worth trying if you're in the area - they're different, but in a good way. I tried a variety of different tacos, and basically every single one was amazing for different reasons. The Trailer Park, Beef Fajita, and Mr. Orange were stand-outs for me, and I'd order them as much as possible. This was a super casual spot. You order at the counter and find a seat. The wait time was a tad hefty around the 7 PM ish mark when loads of people wanted to fill hungry stomachs. The hubs had the fried avocado and Mr. Pink tacos. Those were the more unique creations. I opted for the grande burrito; it was a fairly sized burrito. The fried avocado was the most unique. The avocado was really good as the outside was covered in dough with the inside being a squishy avocado. The refried beans and pico de gallo added to the interesting textures and flavors of this taco creation. It's a must try in our opinions. The Mr. Pink was diff as well. The ahi tuna wasn't super flavorful. It was a bit dry imo, but the hubs thought it was fine. He liked it as it was seared to a medium well. The cabbage and cheese gave it more textures and flavors. I would say also give this one a go. The burrito was pretty flavorful and yummy. The guacamole and pico de gallo made it really good. There were the typical beans, cheese, and cream cheese that added to the flavors of this messy (but oh so good) burrito. Torchy's Tacos were much larger than we expected. We're used to downing 5 or 6 smaller street tacos each in one sitting and were pleasantly surprised to see how big these guys were. That being said, 2-3 per person would probably suffice when ordering here. We started off with their green chile queso dip. Be sure to mix it around and dip from the bottom to get all that yummy green chile. The tacos here are pretty darn good. Again, they're on the larger size and filled to the rim with amazing filling and flavorful sauces. Fried avocado: just what you'd expect- a battered fried avocado but the retried beans on the bottom were a bit heavy and it sort of reminded me of a seven layer dip and could've used more crunch or texture IMO Tipsy chick: chicken with spinach and corn served with a side of bacon marmalade. A pretty solid choice and really enjoyed the marinated chicken Democrat: a typical barbacoa setup with onions and cilantro, cheese, avocado and lime Crossroads: smoked beef brisket, onions and cilantro, jalapeño. Pretty similar to the democrat and full of meat Migas: breakfast taco with eggs, avo- sort of like a small omelet on tortilla. Trailer Park-this was probably my favorite since it came with fried chicken, green chiles and you've got the option to get it classic with lettuce on top or get it trashy which replaces the lettuce with queso dip. I chose to get it both classic and trashy and don't regret it one bit. Torchy's is more of a fast-casual chain but we enjoyed ourselves, the tacos and dip. We even had leftovers for the plane ride home. Wouldn't mind paying them a visit again the next time we're in town. read more

2019 Yelp 120 Challenge- #78 I am so happy that I finally had the opportunity to try Torchy's Tacos. I feel in love with their delicious swirl margarita and their delicious chicken taco. My friends and I sat at the beautiful full service bar and we had the best service and best time. You have the option to get all you tacos trashy and that means, would you like it with lettuce or quest. Both are delicious and on another visit, I would probably get both tacos regular and extra trashy. This location has a walk up ordering station, similar to Shake Shack and plenty of open seating for a part or group of any size. I am glad to have had my first Torchy's Taco experience at the birth city of the original Torchy's. read more

Sometimes I'll get tacos from here when I'm in the area. Usually this place gives you tacos that aren't very warm though and they don't taste as good as other Torchy's tacos are. They aren't bad tho, customer service here is friendly, and they make them fast usually here for a downtown restaurant. Just honestly disappointing for torchy's standards.
