First time at Torchy's! It's a Dallas staple, so don't delay like I did... I got the Fried Chicken and the Democrat (barbacoa). (Total: ~$9). They give you a number and they bring the food out to you. Fast casual. Mine came out almost the second I sat down. So super fast casual. I was a little suspect, but I'm sure they prepare everything already and scoop it up when people order. The size of the taco was VERY generous that it was hard to eat. I was full with two, but I could've eaten another one. It gives me Velvet Taco vibes, but less uppity. (Don't get me wrong - I love Velvet too!) I still like street tacos more, but this is a good option too. read more

man talk about a disappointment. I've been hearing about Torchy's for almost a year. My bf is from Texas and always raves about the tacos. After picking me up from the airport for a recent trip, he finally decided to take hangry Me to Torchy's and my heart was left b r o k e n. I love tacos, so much in fact I named my cat taco. (don't judge me) But these were not good. We ordered the chips and queso, the Tipsy Chick, Alabama Shake and Missionary Style tacos. They quickly brought out the queso which was bomb.com and I would 100% order and have it shipped to NY if that were possible. We waited about 30 mins and completely smashed our queso before realizing we never got our tacos and that people who arrived after us were already eating. after finally getting them, they were cold of course. The Alabama shake (beer battered fish) tasted old and gross. I think they did 6 batches too many in old grease. the tipsy chick was nothing to rave home about. Neither of our finished/barely ate the tacos and left saddened and hangry. Bae apologized profusely for how bad the food was but also admitted he's never experienced food or service that bad. Their queso is definitely better than taco deli's. But their tacos are okay. I like that there are inventive options, like the brushfire. A solid 3-4 star spot consistently. For queso and four tacos it's about $28, a bit overpriced. I think their quality has fallen over the years, as they have gotten more commercial, but still a solid spot. read more

Oh, Torchys.... where do I begin?... I begin with the queso --- the queso with the guacamole, might be my favorite ever. Continuing with a couple of tasty tacos - seriously can't go wrong. I try to get something different each time, and they always have a taco of the month as well. Tipsy Chick, Democrat, and Crossroads have been my favorites. Try them all!!! The atmosphere of Torchys is always fun and lively yet super relaxed and easy. I have quickly become a super fan and recommend it to any taco lover. I don't know what else to say about Torchy's other than it's worth the drive from Indiana to Texas just to eat there! They have THE BEST street corn I've ever had. I crave it and can't seem to recreate it at home. The chips and salsa are also fabulous. My favorite tacos are The Brushfire and The Democrat. Me and my husband went there for a quick dinner during the week. The lady that helped us in the cashier was very friendly! She recommended a couple flavors and was very patient helping us choosing a beer. She gave us samples so we could decide which one we would have. Once you order, you pay for it and they give you a number so when your food is ready they bring it to you. The beer we got it from the cashier so we had that first. We got 5 tacos: shrimp, salmon, short rib, fried catfish and I think the other one was chicken (I remember it came with a bacon marmalade that was deliiiish!). You can pick between flour or corn tortillas. We had a mix and they both were good! The corn ones are smaller so they put 2 per taco. The tacos took a little bit longer than I would expect to be ready but it was worth the wait! They were all very delicious! My favorite was the shrimp one and my husband's favorite was the fried fish. We are definitely coming back! read more

Queso, beer, brisket, atmosphere... i loved everything about Torchy's! I'm not really a foodie so I can't opine on whether the brisket was tender enough or the chicken was spicy or juicy enough... what I do know is that the tacos I had were awesome! They have this cool funky ordering and service mechanism, and although it looks like some people complained about their service in the past, it seemed good to me! I'm a fan of torchy's! Love their queso, but it is spicy, if you haven't tried it. Love their guacamole, and how much you get for the price. I've never gotten a bad taco there, however the portion sizes tend to be inconsistent. My favorite is the Monk special, however it's a bit of a breakfast item. The Diablo sauce is a must have, if you like it hot! Their chips are excellent, as is the salsa. However, I was disappointed to see that they did away with their craft soda, and went to Coke, instead. read more

The food is awesome. We ordered the baja shrimp and the chicken fajita tacos. I really liked the shrimp because it worked well with the vegetables, sauce, and lime. I don't like fried shrimp but this one is actually good. I wasn't too excited about the chicken but my sister really liked it. The chips and salsa were amazing but they only give you a handful which left us with leftover queso. We ended up eating the queso with the tortilla chip crumbs and used spoons to finish the rest. My biggest problem with Torchy's is that the woman with the brown/blondish hair has an attitude towards certain customers. I don't know what her problem is but it made me feel like cancelling my order with me and going over to the next cashier. I didn't do that but her attitude is that of someone who is easily annoyed, not helpful, and doesn't like being there. She seemed to have a problem with my sister who has speech difficulties and for which I helped order and with me. It's happened before where she was rude to my professor and two students. With a friend and I but not my friends boyfriend. And once again when I went by myself. I asked for a receipt and she only gave me the one receipt that needed signing and didn't give me my copy even after I repeated myself. She just called the next customer over. Had my second go at Torchy's for breakfast tacos. They're fine quality and good portion. Flavor is not terrible, but also not great. Both experiences my tacos have been slightly off. Today, I wanted one on flour instead of corn.. and the other error I asked for guac added. It was just sliced avocado, which you're thinking what's the big deal? But she specifically asked me if I wanted guac OR avocado. The gal at the register also was on her phone for a good minute before she looked up and acknowledged me. read more

I love Torchy's tacos but i am giving this location a 1... the food is GREAT but something that pisses me off is that at the point of checkout you are basically FORCED to tip... the options are 10% 15% 20% and "other"... no one wants to sit at your register figuring out how to put no tip.. especially when the person that assisted you didn't do anything out the ordinary. I am slowly making my rounds at taco spots in Dallas. Today I had Torchy's. They have a nice selection of "gentrified" tacos. I had the jerk chicken taco and the brisket one. They were both just okay. Nothing spectacular stood out about them. I will say that the brisket was delicious and very tender. I also had a margarita, and I was actually too early for their happy hour, which starts at 3. I'll go back for the happy hour, and hopefully the next tacos I try will knock me off my feet. read more

I ordered from here not realizing it was a chain until after I ordered from here and searched a little more. Republican - A complete waste. It was like a kielbasa on a tortilla with some cheese... lame. Something one of my toddlers would have put together. Crossroads - Loved it. Smokey brisket. Grilled onions. Jack chese, jalapenos. Tomatillo sauce. Corn tortillas. Just perfect. Baja Shrimp - Fantastic. Chipotle ranch, cotija, cabbage slaw, pickled onions, corn tortilla. Trailer Park - Meh. Here again, it was like something my kids would throw together. Nothing special about the breaded chicken. I could take it or leave it. Green Chile Pork - Nasty. The green chiles and raw onions ruined it. Might have been better with just the carnitas and nothing else. But then, I have had some pretty spectacular carnitas in Cali and Arizona. I am pretty picky with my carnitas. The pico de gallo has WAY too much cilantro in it. I ordered a pint. Had to throw it away. The rojo salsa was nice. The chips were really good too. Overall, I will probably order from here again and try the other things I didn't try this time. Longer term, I would order a couple things again if I want something I am familiar with and am in the mood for Tex-Mex. read more

Easily my favorite go-to restaurant. Every time I am in Dallas or in a city with a Torchy's, I make sure to get chips and queso, a trailer park taco, and a house margarita. If you ever need a quick tex Mex option that isn't going to break the bank, I would definitely recommend you check it out. I live right by this Torchy's but I've never been. Plenty of seating was available, inside and outside. I appreciated the cashier taking the time to tell me about her favorites and she was spot on. I traditionally get the Green Chile Pork but I went on the wild side and also got the jerk chicken. Absolutely AMAZING. The sauce is spicy enough, even for me which is rare. I'll definitely come back more often since it's so close. read more
