You order and pay at the front, you're given a number, and you seat yourself and make your own drink (water, tea, or fountain drink). 2. Price - Depending on how many tacos you order, you can just eat one for $2.50 and be on your way. Inexpensive. This doesn't include the cost of drinks though, unless you got water. 3. Ambiance - Hip and contemporary. They have TV everywhere, so you could watch a game here. This place is always pack. Cool for a small group hangout. Dress code is casual, but the only thing I don't like is that seating is not readily available. But I guess that also means that the food is good here. 4. Food - I'm a big Breakfast Taco kind of guy. Torchy's has a Trailer Park taco with fried chicken on it and you can request to make it trashy which means that they remove the lettuce and add queso. It's delicious. I love this location - the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was very clean and well kept. They also have outdoor dining tables and seats which is always nice. Their bar is more than you'd expect at a taco place. They also have plenty of TVs here. Verdict on Torchy's Tacos: Will not return. The street corn is NOT street corn, it's meh corn. The tacos are okay; the barbacoa (democrat) was tasty, but the jalapeno sausage (republican) was cold all the way through, wasn't even warm. :/ Sorry, with the way this place is talked about, it's overhyped. Finally made it to Torchy's today -- was not disappointed. The crowds have died down, so didn't have to deal with a long line (hint: if there IS a line, go sit at the bar and you can order right away). Before getting to the food -- was very impressed with every employee we encountered. Always willing to go above and beyond to serve the customer. The base chips and salsa were quite good -- chips were light without being wimpy, and the red salsa (not your traditional red by any stretch) came in a generous portion and was quite tasty. Seemed heavy on spices -- wonder if will get old over time. I'll let you know after 6 or 7 more bowls... I had two tacos -- Fried Avocado and Brushfire. The former was good, but disappointing, given the appearance of both "Fried" and "Avocado." I generally like refried beans as a taco ingredient, particularly as a calming influence amongst livelier ingredients, but in this case, it was just one more member of the "meh" club. The Brushfire taco was definitely not "meh" -- jerk chicken, grilled jalapenos, and their Diablo sauce ensure this. Definitely will be a favorite of mine. Torchy's will become a regular stop for us... Update 9/2015: Finally got around to trying breakfast tacos at Torchy's. Verdict? Yup, totally worth it. Torchy's is one of those places that I'm extremely split on. I can taste where, I'm sure, the original used to be amazing but now the chain growth has diminished the flavor. It truly is a every now and then type of craving. Tacos: 2/5 The breakfast tacos are a complete miss for me... I feel like they use liquid eggs which is no bueno for the price. Some of the lunch tacos are pretty okay like the Trailer Park but even that has been upstaged by places like Fuego in College Station. Some of the others are just a flat line, like the Republican(?) which is just a dry sausage. The sauces all run together in my head. The Brushfire is one of my favorites, just because its packed with heat. Queso: 4/5 One of their saving graces is their queso. I live the guac in the bottom. But again there is a flaw: this stuff gets clumpy and will break every attempted chip if not consumed rapidly. Most of the time my queso is left unfinished Street Corn: 2/5 Nothing special Esp for the price Fried Cookie Dessert thing: 4/5 These are basically fried cookie dough and theyre pretty yummy. They have a great variety of tacos/ flavor combinations and they have a secret menu as well PLUS a taco of the month. The queso and chips is delicious with the guacamole under is- so delicious! The price is good for the amount of stuff you get in each taco- it's crazy! Expect is to be crowded at night and to squeeze into a table that just emptied on the weekends. Ordered from Uber Eats for myself and coworkers. I was missing a large queso and was so disappointed, as that's the best part! Typically, I would have to go through Uber and they would have to issue a refund. I decided to try the store and spoke with Johnny. I explained the situation and he (without hesitation) said, I'm so sorry that happened. I'm going to take care of you." He preceded to pull up my address and said that he would personally drop off my queso. "I was like wow, that's so kind and awesome of you." I asked him for his full name, so I could give management a compliment about him. He replied that his name was Johnny Flores and he was a GM for the area. I couldn't believe it! How often would a GM drop off a queso to a customer??? Never!!! He was at our office in 15 minutes! We were all shocked that he delivered on his word...even on something as simple as queso. We finally tried this place and overall the tacos were good. The ambiance was modern and clean. My daughter and I ate outside on the patio where it was a little more quiet. We ordered chips and queso with our tacos and the chips were stale. I also ordered a side of Mexican rice which didn't come out with my order. I had to alert an employee and was informed that the cashier didn't ring it up even though I ordered it. So a manager came out and delivered the rice to my table for free. The rice is just meh. It was mediocre. This place is set up kind of like Chipotle but they bring your food out to you. It's not an assembly line place. It was nice to be able to stop while running errands and get out in less than an hour. We will definitely be back for the tacos as they were tasty and filling enough for a quick lunch. read more

Today is October 6th, 2018. I walked into this restaurant (not a first timer) and it's a busy Saturday morning. I ordered my food and then went to the restroom to wash my hands. The men's restroom had no hand soap - it was completely empty. I went back outside and informed a staff member whom after hearing me said, "uh huh" and then proceeded to go into the kitchen. I'm sitting at a table right outside the kitchen and observed a male employee walk into the restroom, then walk out about 2 minutes later and he proceeded to go into the kitchen - assuming that he replaced the hand soap cartridge, I walked back into the men's restroom to wash my hands - still NO soap. No wonder why at the wall near the register, there's a sign that says "Current Health Inspection available upon request" - other restaurants that have a Grade A health inspection would just have that piece of paper hanging proudly. The tables also smell bad and are a bit sticky - tables have a smell of an old rag. read more

It can be super busy with families and couples, but no complaints here! I usually get mine to go so I don't really get the full experience...YET! Now to the important stuff, the tacos! I so wanted to like Torchys I finally came in tonight to see what the hype was all about. I arrived at 7:45 pm my order was taken about 4 minutes later. The dining area wasn't packed but there were a few tables and people drinking at the bar. I ordered the crossover which is the brisket taco, ummm the "brisket " is so chopped down it's like the consistency of half a grain of rice thin, it no longer tastes like brisket big disappointment, chunks would have been the way to go, very simple and mediocre with a small thin slice of avocado, I used the whole little container of green sauce on it. The Green Chile Pork taco is misrepresented, first of all it's not what it says you get pulled pork with a tiny container of green sauce on the side, Green Chile pork is simmered in the sauce so why so many places here in Texas state it's Green Chile Pork well that's totally not that at all. So it's also very plain Jane taco with onion and cilantro, bland also I soaked it with sauce cause man the struggle was real tonight with these tacos. The "Sweet Corn" was a fail as well, some cotija cheese some weird tasting red powder with 4 cilantro leaves, damn people, it was a good size but I need some mayo or some type of sauce for a little bit of flavor and something to tie the corn together. Y'all need to go to Los Gemelos tacos on Cypress Creek Pkwy they'll show you how to do the corn and the tacos the right way. I've been to the Shepherd & Rice Village location numerous times, Vintage Park isn't my side of town but nobody felt like driving 30+ minutes to downtown so we chose this location. The place was packed when we came in. It has a patio and even a bar, which I don't think I've seen at the other locations. I got the famous queso and chips and we ordered two tacos from the "secret menu" which I had no clue even existed! The "mad cow" and another one I can't remember, oops. The wait for our food seemed a little longer than usual, but once we got it we were so happy. The queso was amazing as always. One of the secret menu tacos was a different mix of ingredients - it had a crunchy taco inside! My boyfriend enjoyed it though and devoured it immediately. As for the mad cow taco, it's definitely a pile of things on top of each other that make for a delicious and unique taste. It has fajita, black beans, grilled corn, cheese, and creamy chipotle sauce (so good i think I need my own bottle of it).
