What a great experience I had today... I placed a large order for breakfast tacos early yesterday for pickup this morning. When I arrived to pick up my order, it was not there. The folks at Torchy's were extremely apologetic and got the order out quickly. They also didn't charge me for the order, which was COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY BUT EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!!! Only got to try two of the tacos (the dirty sanches which was egg and a fried poblano pepper- AMAZING, and the democrat which was tasty as well) but wish I could have had one of everything because they were SO good! I'm so fucking tired of getting home with no sauces for the tacos. Tonight the guy asks "Do you need any extra sauces" and as I was tipping him seven bucks on 43 (takeout) I said "no, as long as the ones that come with each taco are in the bag". No sauces for the six breakfast tacos AGAIN. I cannot BELIEVE I took his word for it and didn't check the bag before leaving. If he had just said nothing I would've. Here's what I love about the place: 1. Great food - I've tried their shrimp taco, fish taco, avocado taco, and chicken, and jamaican jerk (all on separate occasions). Loved all of them. The sauces complement the tacos well. I am a fan of the chipotle sauce the most. 2. Love the outdoor spot. 3. Chips and queso = yum. Not sure about: The deep fried cookie dough. I'd say try the smaller platter if you're unsure. It wasn't sure what to expect, so I was a little thrown off. I suppose I'd try it again just to figure out if I really do like it or not. read more

Although it's not authentic Mexican tacos, Torchy's is the best place to get tacos in Houston! Be prepared to wait though. I think Torchy's parking lot is literally hell on earth. It's always full unless you're one of the lucky ones. Either come when Torchy's just open or when it's about to close. I usually go for the latter because I'm always craving Torchy's after work. The only con is that they usually run of of queso by then. 4/5 of the times I came they were out of queso, but I found a parking spot so I really can't complain. Get the trailer park extra trashy! I haven't been to heaven yet, but I would imagine they serve that as the main entree up there. The poblano sauce is the stuff gods sent down from heaven to bless us with. Melty cheese and fried chicken in a taco doesn't get better than that. The green chile pork taco is a staple everyone has to try if it's their first time. I personally think the democrat and green chile pork taco are the most authentic Mexican tacos Torchy's have while putting their little twist on it. If you're at Torchy's and they're not out of queso yet, get it immediately. I don't care if you don't like cheese. You will love their queso period. If you've gotten to this part of the review and you're not craving Torchy's Tacos, go get help. read more

I honestly am inlove. Torchys has been in my life for the past few years and has never dissapointed. I go about 3 times a week and plan on continuing my habit. I get the independent taco (a vegetarian mushroom taco) and it is delicious. This place is great for vegetarians and meet eaters and has something for everyone. also the queso is a MUST GET!!! Make sure you get there early though because usually parking is a tough find. read more

Torchy's Tacos, I heart you! I'm not really sure where to begin, except that You. Must. Go. Their tomatillo salsa is ahhmazing! It adds the perfect kick to each bite. I'm a big fan of the corn tortilla, but that's just me. Everything about this place is soo good, only negative, parking is the worse. I've never been to Torchy's Tacos in Austin. But I've been to the one in Houston and I'm not impressed. The tiny cramped one way parking was chaotic with people trying to exit against traffic. There were far too few tables being saved by people waiting for larger groups. It may look like a fast food restaurant but the food is anything but fast. It reminds of of a service that you would get from a food truck slow. Also the workers are running all over the place looking for the people's numbers to give them their food. This made me appreciate the blinky pagers that they have at other restaurants. So far I've had the Mr. Pink taco, the Brush Fire taco and an order of the chips with the green chile queso along with a Dublin Dr. Pepper. The food is really good but pricey. And it took a looong time to get out. I was just checking out the website and apparently you can order online at other locations. This feature isn't ready in Houston but you can call in your order. And I think that's what I'm going to do the next time I go here. read more

I agree with some of the other reviewers that it's more Austin nostalgia than taste that is bringing in the customers. It just isnt' THAT good. I mean, it's a taco...it's not bad, but I'm not raving over them. I went last Saturday morning and it took 20 minutes (based on the time my receipt was printed) to get my tacos. How can it take that long to put some eggs on a tortilla? And it's expensive for what you get...eggs on a tortilla. There are just too many places in Houston that serve really good breakfast tacos to waste my time on this place. read more

The sugarland location had horrible service yesterday. The order was for dine in and the to-go server just gave us bags to go . We asked if we can have the order for here since we ordered it correctly. She literally threw us the bags again and ran off. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with my trip to Torchy's. As a college student, I had heard legends of the Austin location, so when I heard Houston would be getting one as well, I immediately made time in my schedule to go try it out. First thing you should know is that the parking situation is an absolute NIGHTMARE. Goodness gracious, there were cars flying out of no where and parked in ways I had no idea were possible (all's fair in love, war, and parking I suppose). Amateur drivers beware. As far as the restaurant, it is typically atypical. Trendy, weird, hip, basically all the aspects of Austin crammed into a small restaurant. There is seating indoors and outdoors, so finding places to eat is no issue. The tacos were the area that left me the most disappointed. It took the staff 20 minutes for my order to come out because they had forgotten to send the ticket back to the kitchen, so I had to sit and watch the rest of my party devour their meals before I had a chance to try mine. I had the Pink Lady taco with Ahi tuna, which was a bit too expensive for the amount of food I got. The fish was pretty good, but was a little soggy for my taste. I had a basic breakfast taco as well with bacon and eggs, but the bacon in my taco was very rubbery and chewy. The quality of ingredients was there, but the execution was not. Reading other reviews on here show me that others had much better experiences than I did, so I am willing to give Torchy's another shot. I just won't go out of my way to do so. read more
