Great place but kind of expensive for tacos. I'd recommend and definitely come back. I wish the prices were friendlier.

Oldie but goodie! Torchy's has been a classic Austin taco shop that's tasty, quick and delicious. I frequent this location often and have found food to be consistent. Today, my husband and I shared a full order of chips and queso and a grande burrito. We ordered on the app and ate at the restaurant. Food as always was great. If you're not too hungry, the burrito is great to share. Don't forget your queso as Torchy's has some of the best queso in my opinion. We came around dinner time and found the tables to be a bit sticky and dirty. More attention to table cleanliness would make visits more enjoyable. read more

Wow! Another hit! So we find this diamond in the rough after finding Cava, which I'll be talking about in another review. Yesterday my husband and I ordered tacos and margaritas. Today we ordered burrito and taco again. Did you catch that? Torchy's Tacos was so excellent, we had to have it twice!!!! I ordered the delicious Baja shrimp taco with two margaritas- the cherry limeade and the sangria. My only regret was not getting five tacos!!!!!!!!! The shrimp was breaded and seasoned just right. Everything in it complimented it to a T. And the margaritas are the added cherries on top! My husband's delicious chicken taco was well seasoned as well and juicy! His regret: not getting five tacos!!! So we decided not to make that mistake again. (More on that in a moment) But can I just dedicate a paragraph to the margaritas?! The cherry limeade should be called the CHEERY limeade because wow! It made me cheery. It was the right amount of sweet and alcohol to it to make it taste so good and refreshing! And the sangria was berry delicious. Yes berry! They're so good and the taste is perfect! Then the next day we got a burrito and taco. This time I got the grande chicken burrito. And Yes indeed! Well that's OK so we told her she didn't have to eat if she didn't want to, but then we find a cockroach crawled up the wall right next to us that just was the topping on the cake. The place was stifling hot. I am not a big fan of Torchy's. It is much better as take out than dine in. The employees do not appear interested in their jobs. The chips and queso are ok. What I have a problem with is how they have signs that the tables have been "carefully clean and sanitized," that's a lie. Torchy's is one of my favorite taco places to go to in Austin and I was so happy to see that there was one opening near my school. The location is also very clean and the workers are very nice. My go to is the Trailer park. A lot of my friends like to make their tacos "trashy" which means that they put queso in the taco instead of lettuce and cheese. The chicken inside the Trailer Park is always generously sized and it's always perfectly crispy. If you do go to Torchy's, I highly recommend their queso. It's one of the best quesos I have had with a little bit of guac and spiciness. If there is one thing to get here, this is what I would get. They have a secret menu, which is so good as well. I highly recommend downloading their app to see what type of tacos you have. read more

I would give them only a two star rating however the tacos are delicious, but they are definitely not worth their inflated price. I don't know what has happened since inflation started, but they are almost double the price what they used to be! This needs to be stopped immediately to me. This is a form of robbery.. the rice sucks but the queso is so good. Any chicken taco is real good but it's also very skimpy on the meat too. You order a chicken taco and it's barely any meat. My biggest complaint now is they no longer offer curbside service which I think is pretty strange since the sign in the front states curbside service... Okay, so I'll preface and say I got this as carry out, so do with it what you will. The chips are so great - thin, crispy, salty lime goodness that gives the best delightful crunch. But then I dipped it in the gauc and lemme tell you, my Midwest tastebuds couldn't handle the amount of heat up in there. It had so much jalapeño, I couldn't even eat it when normally I lick the bottom of bowls for more gauc. But if spice is your thing, they give you a vat of the stuff so you'll be in heaven. I got the Barbacoa taco - it's huge, but has like half onion, half sad meat. Maybe a 2/5. Like honest to god, I ate a whole onion tonight between two tacos. And then we come to the shrimp taco. It's a star. Awesome flavors with the fried shrimp, the pickled onion, beautiful mesh of flavors. 10/10. Street corn was pretty good too, but it's just some corn in a cup - I guess I was expecting elote style which may have been an overestimation on my part. Decent food, but not stellar and their takeout is slopped together and will fall apart in sogginess after about fifteen minutes - so grab a fork and buttload of napkins and a bib to enjoy your feast. read more

Stopped by Torchys during our drive from Austin to San Antonio. This place was relatively empty for lunch hours on a Sunday. We walked in and ordered the Green chile queso and chips and this was absolutely delicious. For tacos, we ordered - The republican, brushfire, fried avocado and baja shrimp.Apart from brushfire we did not enjoy the other tacos at all. They lacked flavors and did not seem fresh at all. Also some of these tacos were cold as though they were sitting in the kitchen for a really long time. The brushfire on the other hand was amazing. The jerk chicken with the mango and jalapenos burst into flavors with every bite and it was beyond delicious. The only reason this place gets a 3 star from me is cos of their brushfire taco and the green chile queso dip and chips. read more

Torchy's is known for its non-traditional tacos and its delicious queso. It's been around for a while, but we'd never been before so we decided to check them out after tending to some business just steps away. It was busy on a Sunday around lunchtime, but the line moved quickly. We used the app and redeemed a free half-queso to start, and we ordered a variety of tacos to sample. Presentation of the tacos were nothing to write home about. We made a few of them "trashy" as was recommended, which means queso was added. Adding queso just made them wet and sloppy. The queso did live up to its hype, though, as it was pretty tasty. Everything else was just okay. Even with some of the unique twists to these tacos, they were nothing special. The Trailer Park and Democrat were the best of the ones we ordered. The tortillas were pretty lackluster and thin to the point of falling apart. Servers were busy and everything was clean. If we're ever in the area again, we might drop in for queso and a drink, but we'll stick to other places for tacos, even bougie ones. read more

This place was pretty good! At first you walk up to the counter to order. The girl working at the register was super helpful when I said it was my first time here and gave some recommendations. I ended up going with the chicken fajita and Trailer park ("trashy"). There is a bar in the restaurant, but I just opted for some water. After ordering, we sat down and waited for our food. As I had gotten there and ordered right before the dinner rush, my wait was not long at all compared to my friends who had gotten there 5-10 min later. The chicken fajita taco had marinated & grilled chicken breast, grilled onions & peppers, pico, cheddar jack cheese served with tomatillo on the side and I got it on a flour tortilla. It was really good and had a ton of flavor. I was not a huge fan of the tomatillo sauce, but the taco was good enough on its own. I also got the Trailer Park taco which had fried chicken, green chiles, pico, cheddar jack cheese with poblano sauce on a flour tortilla. I got this taco "trashy", which is when the take off the lettuce and add queso on to the taco. The fried chicken in the taco was good, but honestly the queso did not stand out much at all while I was eating this. If I were to go back again, I'd probably save the calories and nix the queso and keep the lettuce on it. With the fairly large menu with lots of different taco options, I'd definitely come back to check out some different ones. read more

Popped in here on Easter evening . Not a lot of dining options available on Easter night but Torchy's shed light at the end of our hunger tunnel when we drove by and noticed they were open . The interior is clean , modern and polished with a chain restaurant vibe. The menu features tacos, burritos, salads and more . I ordered the trailer park taco - fried chicken , green chiles, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheddar jack cheese with poblano sauce . You can opt to "get it trashy" and nix the lettuce and add queso. Trashy was the way to go and the taco was pretty delicious . I also got the crossroads taco with smoked brisket and that one was disappointing. The brisket was not up to par for Texas brisket . For my two tacos and a water I paid $10.60. To me, the prices were steep for the food received. If you are looking for a hole in the wall , authentic and reasonably priced taco place , this is not it . However , the place is clean, spacious and food pretty good . They were open when we needed them and I would consider a second visit for the trailer park taco. read more

Torchy's has been my little taco haven for years, ever since they opened back in Austin! With their unique tacos (you have to try the chicken and waffles one!) paired with some of the best mixed drinks, you can not go wrong. $3.50 sangrias, tequila sunrise, mimosas all day Saturday and Sunday's! Having never eaten here, my daughter talked me into giving them a try. Seeing as today was the second time this week, I think you would agree that I thought she steered me right. I invited an old friend and coworker to join me for lunch today. He had never eaten here before and was wanting to try a new place. He had a hard time finding it as a big oak tree blocks out the sign. Needless to say, he was not happy, and the food was going to need to be great. We waited in line for about 15 minutes. Not bad for the lunch hour. He read the menu while in line, and we both knew what we wanted when we got to order. Both of us ordered 2 beef tacos. We then took our drinks and found a table to wait for our food. After a short wait, out they came with our orders. Unfortunately, they only brought 1 taco apiece. We sent the server back to get the rest of our food, and the manager came out to apologize for the error. We continued to eat and our other food came out just as we finished our first taco. Unfortunately the quality of the food has taken a down turn for the worse. This is a trap for upscale taco lovers, but the balance in the flavors is gone. Absolutely amazing! I had the taco of the month and am ready to go back for it again (Tokyo Drift). We went during happy hour and sat at the bar - great service and a wonderful time. Started with chips and queso, which was really good - and a bit spicy. I had the margarita that had watermelon and it was nice and refreshing. Still - the taco was the best part. Every time I am in Austin this joint is a sure stop! Things are pretty straight forward (as most things are in Texas) stand in line, look over all the options in the menu, make your order and wait for your food to be brought to you. Now there are many options in the menu I always stick to the tacos and this time I tried Baja Shrimp which was huge and delicious. I also had the Democrat which is barbacoa and some of the best I've ever had! Flavorful and not greasy at all which sometimes can be a problem with barbacoa. My last gluttonous treat was the Republican a delicious yet simple jalapeño sausage tacos that will remind you of being a kid. Second time at this location and the food was perfect. So much flavor in each bite! The new Tokyo Drifter was better than I thought. It was sweet and crunchy. I'm doubling up on that one next time. Come to the Alamo Heights location for a great meal! We went to the one at the Rim after coming here first and were let down. Our meal had very little heat and the flavors were subdued. I've heard people rant and rave about Torchy's for years and I gotta say it's pretty good. My first visit was just beer and appetizers (pre-COVID) and my second visit was curbside to-go (post-COVID). Their curbside was the fastest curbside I've ever encountered. I arrived at the specified time, text and they were outside with my food in less than a minute. I had to double check order, it was so fast I assumed they had the wrong car. Not only did the have the order correct, the food was hot and tasty. Based on my visit, I'll definitely be back. This by far is the best Torchy's in town. My tacos (fried avocado and baja shrimp) were delicious and fresh. Along with some of the best guacamole I have had in a long time, washed down with a Tito's cherry limeaide. Muah! The kiddos loved their quesadillas, avocado and lemonade. A friend who had previously lived in San Antonio was in town and recommended we meet up with them here for dinner one night. Located in an extremely busy area that shares space with a HEB, Torchy's Tacos is a cornerstone (and literally at the corner) of this shopping plaza. Sporting indoor seating, outdoor seating, and bar seating, Torchy's offers a little bit of something for everyone. Despite it being a weekday and not a Tuesday, Torchy's was packed at 6:30 PM. We were able to order and find a table for 3 no-problem though. Foolishly I ordered two tacos in addition to the chips and salsa and queso we were all splitting. I say foolishly because I can't eat a whole lot, and more importantly these tacos are BIG! Each of us got two different tacos with funny and/or interesting names such as the Democrat, the Republican, the Alabama Shake, and the Crossroads. They do not skimp on their portions here. They'll load you up with whatever the protein is versus trying to mask it with toppings... but they do give you a lot of toppings in addition to the protein making it one big hunkin' taco. So far, every taco I've ever had at Torchy's was unique and delicious. The salsa has a wonderful spicy kick to it. I was craving tacos all day and decided I needed some from Torchy's. I braved the rain and got my tacos. I have been to Torchy's several times and usually have not problem. My rating for this review is for my overall experiences. This time I ordered the fried avocado on corn and the Alabama shake on corn. Unfortunately, the corn tortillas were so dry, they were falling apart and it took away from the overall flavor. For the price of the taco, it wouldn't hurt to take them time to heat up the tortillas individually or even invest in a better tortilla. The queso was delicious. It is a little spicy, but tolerable. The order is big enough to share. The corn has always been one of my favorites. This time around it was a little cold. For those that like corn on a cob made over a grill, the corn is just what you're looking for. The margaritas are pretty good and this time I tried the 100 and it was even better than the regular.
