I've heard people rant and rave about Torchy's for years and I gotta say it's pretty good. My first visit was just beer and appetizers (pre-COVID) and my second visit was curbside to-go (post-COVID). Their curbside was the fastest curbside I've ever encountered. I arrived at the specified time, text and they were outside with my food in less than a minute. I had to double check order, it was so fast I assumed they had the wrong car. Not only did the have the order correct, the food was hot and tasty. Based on my visit, I'll definitely be back. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star review is price. For tacos, the price is rather high. read more

It is very rare to have a true moment of culinary satisfaction where exactly what you picture, taste and crave is delivered to you on a tray. A true Harold and Kumar experience without the adventure. This by far is the best Torchy's in town. My tacos (fried avocado and baja shrimp) were delicious and fresh. Along with some of the best guacamole I have had in a long time, washed down with a Tito's cherry limeaide. Muah! The kiddos loved their quesadillas, avocado and lemonade. A friend who had previously lived in San Antonio was in town and recommended we meet up with them here for dinner one night. Located in an extremely busy area that shares space with a HEB, Torchy's Tacos is a cornerstone (and literally at the corner) of this shopping plaza. Sporting indoor seating, outdoor seating, and bar seating, Torchy's offers a little bit of something for everyone. Despite it being a weekday and not a Tuesday, Torchy's was packed at 6:30 PM. We were able to order and find a table for 3 no-problem though. Foolishly I ordered two tacos in addition to the chips and salsa and queso we were all splitting. I say foolishly because I can't eat a whole lot, and more importantly these tacos are BIG! Each of us got two different tacos with funny and/or interesting names such as the Democrat, the Republican, the Alabama Shake, and the Crossroads. They do not skimp on their portions here. They'll load you up with whatever the protein is versus trying to mask it with toppings... but they do give you a lot of toppings in addition to the protein making it one big hunkin' taco. So far, every taco I've ever had at Torchy's was unique and delicious. The salsa has a wonderful spicy kick to it. I was craving tacos all day and decided I needed some from Torchy's. I braved the rain and got my tacos. I have been to Torchy's several times and usually have not problem. My rating for this review is for my overall experiences. This time I ordered the fried avocado on corn and the Alabama shake on corn. Unfortunately, the corn tortillas were so dry, they were falling apart and it took away from the overall flavor. For the price of the taco, it wouldn't hurt to take them time to heat up the tortillas individually or even invest in a better tortilla. The queso was delicious. It is a little spicy, but tolerable. The order is big enough to share. The corn has always been one of my favorites. This time around it was a little cold. For those that like corn on a cob made over a grill, the corn is just what you're looking for. The margaritas are pretty good and this time I tried the 100 and it was even better than the regular. Swung by with my hair stylist after an intense bleach session. I heard about Torchy's for a while but never stepped foot in one until recently. I was prepped on the types of tacos, and even told about the 'super secret' menu. Or something. We had chips and queso, and the queso was very, very good. I ordered the Ace of Spades taco (cue Motorhead headbanging) which was delicious. I only took a few bites before I got full and took the rest home. It was fully loaded with a jalapeno sausage link, grilled brisket, a fried egg, green chile queso, cilantro, cotija cheese, and sour cream. As a sweet treat I also got some fried cookie dough balls (how did they not become fried cookies?). Those were rich and heavy and took me all afternoon to eat all 3. Overall, it's a bit out of my way, and not a first choice to go to, but I definitely wouldn't turn down an invitation to Torchy's. Good stuff. read more

Pros - the ordering system is organized and quick - they have a detailed menu with great descriptions of each taco - they also offer sides (queso, rice, guac) - they serve your food quite quickly (efficient method of the beeper) - I got the republican and trailer park. The republican was a little disappointing. It didn't have really anything except cheese and a sausage... - I got a taco to go, and they brought it with my meal with the sauces and napkins already in the bag ready to go! It's this specific Torchy's Taco that seems to always be a miss for me. I've eaten at Torchy's for many years in multiple locations but this specific location never tastes the same as others. I usually get the Baja Shrimp Tacos with flour tortillas. I usually get it from DoorDash although there has been a couple of instances where I have gone into this establishment. They almost always forgot to add the sauce when I order online. The tacos feel so dry when you eat it. The tortilla feels soggy and the taco as a whole is always missing something compared to other locations. If you're getting the fried avocado, eat it at the restaurant, it will not taste right if you wait to eat it. Overall, for the same price, you can get a better meal elsewhere. I will say however, the chips and queso in all the locations I've been to has been fire. You can't go wrong with chips and queso. If you can add the beef and avocado to the queso, do it! read more

We came here tonight for dinner and sat outside. I like how they have a lot of benches and ceiling fans outside in the shade to keep us cool. Indoor dining with limited seating was available too. I ordered the trailer park and baja shrimp both with flour tortillas. They were pretty good and I will definitely order them again next time as it was really tasty. I always order two tacos as one does not fill me up. We did noticed that there were a couple of tacos that are not on the menu anymore. They took off Mr. Pink, Republican, and Independent. While on vacation to Texas, we spent a day in San Antonio and upon arriving, we wanted a decent lunch and Torchy's Tacos delivered! This location was contained in a plaza surrounded by other nice shops and eateries so there was plenty of parking (though when we came on a Saturday mid-afternoon, this place was poppin'!). As for seating, there was plenty both inside and outside, along with a bar inside. We were able to pull a few tables together and look over the menus. The restaurant itself was very clean despite all of the people here. Once we all figured out what we wanted, a few of us got in line and placed the orders. Nice part was that they bring your order to the table, so no standing around. The staff seemed friendly enough, albeit I didn't interact very much with them. I ended up ordering a single taco and munched on some chips with salsa and guacamole (which the salsa and guac were very good), as I was thinking we were going to be grabbing a bigger dinner elsewhere in downtown San Antonio. I ended up going for the "Democrat" due to it being one of the 'lighter' tacos on the menu. It was shredded beef barbacoa, avocado, cotija cheese, cilantro, onions, and a lime wedge with their tomatillo sauce on a corn tortilla. The taco was great! The barbacoa had a great flavor to it and it was piled high and the cilantro with lime really elevated the flavor! Honestly, I wish I would have ordered another one! Been a fan and diner at Torchy's for years. First visit to the San Antonio outlet; also first one with a bar. Well, it didn't go so well. We arrived to a short wait in line. Order taken, drink procured, put my hang tag on the table, and the wait began. I was dining with three other friends who all ordered after me. I sat patiently waiting for y queso that didn't even arrive till after my companions were half way done with their food. I approach the counter and ask for a refund on the queso that I should have gotten immediately after sitting down. While I'm asking for my dinero back, queso shows up. Then another 5 minute wait before my Baja and Ranch hand arrive. Others outside my group who also ordered after me were leaving. Is San Antonio missing the cool hippie employees that ATX has? In the end I was given a full refund by Nelson who I'm assuming was a manager. Sadly, half my group had never dined at a Torchy's and I sang the praises of your brand and tacos for two miles before dining there. Talk about a black eye for a lifetime Austinite. This is my second visit to a Torchy's. The first was in Houston. Not a very good experience but the food was delicious. The cashier was very pleasant. I sat at a table and waited for my food. Seemed to be about 20 minutes or so. So I really thought my 5 minute drive home i would at least have hit or even better warm rice and corn. Tacos were cold as well I ordered two Baja shrimp and fried avocado. To my surprise everything was cold as if it sat somewhere . To be honest I tried the corn and decided not to eat it because it was brown not slightly yellow at all. The Spanish rice after heating it was good. The corn in it was yellow as I'm use to. I took a bite of the fried avocado taco and yeah that's it a bite. So just for me I paid 22.79 and additional a tip. A waste this time. Look. I go to San Antonio once a year or so to visit the in-laws. On this last trip, I had Torchy's three times. That should really tell you all you need to know! In a sea of uninteresting Tex-Mex, Torchy's stands out as really flavorful, tasty food. It's lip-smacking, oh-my-god-try-this good. From the margaritas to the queso to the guacamole to the salad to the refried beans to pretty much every taco I've tried, it's all legit yummy. (Oh, and they have great allergen/ingredients info for folks who have restricted diets!) The one downside is that my unadventurous kids don't have a ton of choices here... oh well! I decided to ask the lady behind the register and she recommended the trailer park. I said why not give it a try. Indeed I gave it a try and I now get them every time my family goes to torchy's. Their tacos come in different ways. Some of their tacos with spinach or lettuce. When others have just some shrimp or chicken. If you love raising canes chicken and cheese you would love their trailer park then get it trashy. They have different ways to make certain tacos like I mentioned the trailer park. You could get that taco. You just have to ask for it trashy and it will have queso on top which is amazing even though it has a funny name to it. I would definitely recommend a taco with their shrimp or chicken if you ended up trying it. If you come into torchy's just to end up having a huge line you don't need to worry. The line will go pretty fast and you will be able to sit down at your table in a few minutes. When you sit down and say you were just starting a short conversation with your family, friends, or just a coworker. Your food would be out before you were done with the conversation. It is really that fast. I would say the food is amazing and I couldn't live my life without it. The only thing you have to be careful of is the sauces. They can get extremely spicy. Well I have been here before and been satisfied but this last time they were all wrong. Ordered and got charged for a "trashy" taco but it was not made trashy. I asked for no onions on the other taco but received onions despite the receipt also stating no onions. Then my barbacoa was 90% fat and already skimpy if it has been meat. I couldn't even eat the taco because of the lack of actual meat. Really disappointed and probably won't risk wasting my money here again read more

You really can't go wrong with a good Torchy's Taco. I am excited for them to expand into Louisiana. We picked up a friend here upon our arrival in San Antonio. A great place to start a little vacay with their reverse happy hour - 7am-10am. Don't judge - when you start your first flight at 5am and encounter some rather eclectic individuals throughout your morning, a pick me up did the trick. I completely have forgotten the names of the tacos I ordered, but I got one on their regular menu and one on their special secret menu (just ask for it). At 9:30 in the morning, those hit the spot. Our table also got the queso, adding a special spicy pop to the morning. I ordered a margarita on the rocks (just one), and the bartender did an excellent job making it without knocking me out at 9am! Service was excellent, and the ladies answered all our questions and put up with super sleepy travelers. The bartender was friendly and attentive. There was even an employee cleaning up the outside with the most amazing personality and really did a great job welcoming up to San Antonio. While i may not make it back to this location (or maybe I will), I will have some more Torchy's in my life! read more

I am a big fan of Torchy's back when it was just the local Austin joint, which started as a food truck. Big, funky, filling, and tasty tacos are a plenty on their menu (damn, that sounds like Guy Fieri wrote that). To my point earlier: don't expect classic/standard/authentic tacos because that's not what's going on here. What is going on here is damn good tacos to meet anyone's style. They offer pork, beef, chicken, vegetarian options and a whole slew of monthly rotating specials (they also have a secret menu, if you're cool enough to be in the know like that). My go-to's are the Dirty Sanchez, the Migas, and the Independent. Being a vegetarian and a hater of cilantro I have customized and specialized all sorts of menu options and the staff here is always more than willing to meet my need(s). So far as drinks Torchy's has daily drink specials, multiple beers on taps, and a full bar to meet your wants. Throw in the daily happy hour and you're all set. If you're sitting at the bar, it's full service, otherwise you wait in line to order your food and you can go to the bar to get whatever drinks you/your party desires. Okay so this place takes a common item in San Antonio and takes it to a fun new level. I ordered the beef fajita tacos, a Republican taco and a Democrat Taco. In my honest opinion the Democrat was by far the best. I inivite you to try the various flavors, options and environment of this place. I LOVE that they have a covered outdoor patio area where you can be outside enjoying the day even if it rains and I loved their bar area. If you drink, the peach mojito was AMAZING. Really a great place! They have a great variety of tacos and flavors. They have a nice selection of vegetarian options. Unlike some places that just have basic vegetarian options just to have them, Torchy's actually puts a lot of effort to create a delicious vegetarian option. I was really happy with their fried avocado taco, which was tasty and filling. Chips are great, and their salsa is very good, not too strong in any direction. Not really much here for vegans. I like that they have a gluten-free menu, but I am concerned when the staff says things like "it only has a little bit of cheese."
