I went to because I wanted to try something new in my area. I figured this place would master the Torta since it's in their name. Once I entered the guests and staff starred at me all weird, maybe I didn't look too Mexican for them. The lobby looked super small and dirty. The staff do no clean after guests eat there (I'm assuming) it's not like they were busy with other others. Once I got the food, I took it home and the taco was very bland, and super tiny. For the price it's not worth it. Also their torta was just ok. The sauce gave it some flavor but that's about it. Other than that I would not go back and buy it again. They don't put enough meat in it. I encourage you to overlook this location. It's not worth coming in and trying it out. Believe me, there's a better one down the street. read more

August 2019 Located in a small strip mall with other eateries (twin dragon, donut shop, dessert/snack shop) We ordered the Asada Torta with a coke. the food took some time to come up but for the price $10.00 i felt it was worth the cost. The bread was sweet and warm, the Asada (chewy and a bit lacking in portion), beans kept the sandwich together, freshness of the lettuce and tomatoes kept the sandwich refreshing. My only complaint was the quality of the Asada, i felt that it was chewy and the lack of meat in the sandwich. Overall i would definitely order it again. The cashier at the front didn't speak english so it was a very quiet transaction. She only smiled but didn't say anything. The chips served with the torta were really hard. read more

Cleanliness: .8/1 The restaurant is pretty clean. The only thing that looked dirty was a recycle bin sitting outside the trash can. The floor looked fine, but an employee came out to sweep it anyways. Customer Service: .6/1 I was greeted warmly by a nice lady, however after I received the food I wasn't acknowledged again. In any other restaurant I wouldn't care too much about this, but we were the only two people in there for about 15 min, next to each other so it was kind of awkward. Also the clover machine that processes cards suggests a tip, but I went up to get my own food and there is no waiter? Taste: .4/1 It wasn't too bad, the TACOS were pretty okay, the tortilla was a little hard for my feel, it might have been old. The meat had alright taste, I had adobada, but it was more like adobada style rather than true adobaba. The TORTA cubana 1 was alright, but the Mayo was overpowering of the taste, and the beans were nearly scraped onto the bread. The milenesa was really tasty though. Overall an okay torta. Accessibility: 1/1 The restaurant is easy to access via streets, and shares parking with 5 other businesses, however the place isn't too busy on a Thursday at 4pm. The tables inside are well spaced, so if I brought my daughter in her stroller I would be able to navigate inside quite well. Value: .3/1 Because of the taste I don't think you are getting a bang for your buck. I paid $16 or so for a 1/2 liter coke, the torta, and two tacos. The portion was big, but I would have been happier with a smaller portion and better taste. I would not return here for tortas or tacos. Their food doesn't taste bad. And the lady wasn't rude (she clearly need more helps). Portion is reasonable for normal size meal. Unfortunately, their price just not justify for their portion/quality. I didn't take the picture of their current menu, all photos of their menu were very out dated. They pretty much raise their price 200%. read more

Disgusting food super hot inside no AC and the food was absolutely nasty! Please do not waste your money here they took over 20 min to make a quesadilla. And I was the only person inside place. The torta was smothered with mayo. I know authentic Mexican food this was absolutely garbage. I'm not a casual Yelp reviewer but I had time today! Nasty food and the place was dirty. The lettuce in my torta tasted dirty. They barley put any meat inside the sandwich. It just tasted like pure mayo with dirty lettuce ! read more

food wasn't that good at all for the price and ALWAYS MAKE SURE to check your food if it is a to go order. I ordered three things and they got two wrong and forgot one of them. I don't think I'll be coming back to this place mostly because of the food which wasn't good. read more

Unfortunately I can see why people gave this place a bad review. The food was lacking flavor big time. Beans needed salt for sure. Rice tasted like store bought. Asada had really no flavor. I should've read the reviews first before I spent my money here. If you want Mexican food, just go to Pepe's. It's down the street and much better than here. Also, the price here was crazy high for the food. read more

The absolute worst torta I've ever had. The bread is so soggy, I have to eat it with a fork and knife. I can't even give this a one star. Not sure what all these people are talking about who gave this place a good review. With all due respect to Mr. Commish, Tortas La Corona is just ok. This place does not compare to several nearby places such as Farolito, Lucero or Publito. It's a interesting place though. In addition to tortas, tacos and burritos, they also serve burgers and sandwiches, including grill cheese for kids. The Disney Channel was playing on TV which was great for our kids. They also have a great selection of fruit juices and Mexican sodas that I wanted to try. What was lacking? My main complaint was that the carnitas was totally dried out, so much so I had to wash it down w/ soda. The carne asada and chicken were better but no standout. The torta was also ok, albeit the wife ordered the turkey without the mayo or jalapeno so it might have been defanged of its key ingredients. Chicken taquito was also very non descript. Well, I plan to make another visit and reevaluate shortly. Stay tuned. read more

I learned a new spanish word at this restaurant yesterday. Salchicha = Vienna sausage. Not yummy handmade sausage or choizo, but perfectly cylindrical, canned tasting vienna style sausages. That said, please do not order the EGG & SALCHICHA TORTA. With a fluffy but grilled roll, shredded lettuce, mayo, slice of cheese, canned jalapeno, it's just a very unappetizing mess. Boyfriend ordered CARNITAS TORTA, which he said reminded him of tuna rather than pork, because the meat had so little porky flavor. Restaurant forgot our side of fries so they gave us a double order for the wait. I am no torta connoisseur but compared to Cook's Tortas in Monterey Park with their ciabatta rolls and high quality ingredients, these just don't compare. read more

Tortas are their specialty, and it's not surprising why! They come with lots of meat, beans, jalapeños, cheese and more. There is so much flavor into each bite! One of these warm and fresh sandwhiches will leave you satisfied. My usual order is a chicken torta with an horchata. I love their salsa bar and agua frescas. Overall, it's a small, clean place that's not too loud. I come here often, and I've never had a bad experience. Definitely a hidden gem in the Fullerton area! read more

Like Lexi I. I wasn't expecting too much from this place either because I didn't like Q Tortas. But I was pleasantly surprised. The menu included Tortas, Burritos, Tacos, Sandwiches, Burgers and even kids meals. I think they had a small juice/drink menu as well. I wanted to keep it simple and ordered the Carne Asada Torta to-go. I sit down at a booth and I can see my steak being cooked over a grill and my bread toasted on the flat top. A few minutes later my torta is assembled and I am on my merry way. I get home and peel back the foil to inhale the buttery aroma of the bread. Took a bite and it was just so much better than Q tortas. The meat didn't make me gag. The chipotle mayo didn't really stand out in any way but I appreciate the lettuce and tomatoes included. Overall, I think I'll be coming here and avoiding Q tortas for awhile. read more

My gf lives around the corner, so why not walk 5 min and give it a try. I love me some hole in the wall, authentic Mexican spot I had to try the carne asada torta, as everyone on yelp recommended it. Ok, so I just finished my asada torta that is supposed to be huge and delicious and I am still hungry. I decided to try this place because everyone at work raves about it and every time I see their food it looks and smells really good. Unfortunately - as it so often happens - I was disappointed. Here's why: 1. it took forEVER! omg! I waited, like, at least 20 minutes for my food to be ready. it probably didn't help that the guy in front of me ordered everything on the menu but that is besides the point. I'm all for "we don't make it 'till you order it" and all, but after all that waiting, I didn't feel that the taste was any better. 2. no guac? really? even the tortas I used to get at the roach coach had some form of avocado on it. 3. too expensive. ok, so under $7 for the sandwich is really not that bad, but I would like maybe a side dish, like beans, chips or something. And I guess I am really still upset that I spent that much on something that didn't even come close to satisfying me. I'm sorry to all those who love this place. It's not for me. But that means more for you! read more

Stopped by to check it out. Unfortunately, it's pretty average. Food is cooked to order so there is a moderate wait. I had the chicken burrito and like I said - average. 4 tortilla chips accompanied it. The soft drinks are pretty pricey. The dining room also needed to be picked up as well. read more

To begin with the positives, I was really satisfied with my "Good Morning" burrito with bacon. The salsa bar tasted fresh and had a good variety, the spicy salsa was actually spicy. It wasn't too mushy and had the right consistency. The wait time does take a while but the taste of the food makes up for it. The reason why this place only has three stars for me is the poor ventilation! I was in the sitting area and it felt like I was right next to the grill. It got really smoky and hard to breathe in there and my clothes smelled like I just got out of kbbq joint. The service of the cashier was eh. When my food was ready she just set it out on the counter and gave me a quick eye contact and moved on with other things she was doing, it felt a bit rude. read more

I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and oh boy!! Was I for a big and huge surprise!! I got the biggest quesadilla ever!! My husband ordered the Torta Ahogada. Or Pambaso. He loved it! They make their tortillas from scratch. Small place but they are very helpful, and patient while explaining everything they offer. Really nice place to go for lunch or diner. They also have drinks. This is the worst TORTA place I have ever eaten...you go up to the register and the lady instead of saying "hello" she stares at you with a blank stare and when you ask for condiments it's almost as if they get bothered. You can pick either red or green salsa. I liked the green salsa as it had a good balance of spice and flavor. The burrito has a lot of hash browns, which can overpower the overall flavor and other ingredients. The breakfast burrito seemed a little pricy, but the portion size made up for it. I even took a small remnant of leftovers home.

Net-net, this was my fourth and final stop at Early Bird. I might miss the french toast, but they won't miss us.

The Salt & Pepper was the place to go to enjoy many of the same recipes as Huff's. Sadly, authentic & independent Coffee Shops & Restaurants like these are getting lost. Not just the homestyle food but the unique architecture & comforting inside decor as well.

The old lady that works there that self proclaim owner when I complain about the food and complain about how dirty the restroom is.. she told me that she was the owner and not no one can tell her how to run her joint. My brother took me here last tonight for dinner and I am soo full! I ordered 4 rolled tacos ($4.99) and a side order of rice ($1.39) and my brother got his usually Carne Asada burrito ($5.69) and some free chips . The portions here are very generous and huge for the cheap price. It is delicious/flavorful, made with amazing quality and love. My brother's burrito was ginormous! I love that they have a variety of homemade salsas as well as pickled carrots. No, but I enjoyed them. The Atmosphere: It's a smallish medium-sized establishment with a mix of comfortable booth seating and tables. Everything is relatively clean and organized, though a bit spartan -- don't expect anything fancy. The Location: Ponchos has a State College Boulevard address, but you'll actually need to turn onto Walnut Avenue to access the parking lot. It's located in a small strip mall that's hard to spot from the road because State College Boulevard dips downward under a railroad bridge. However, there's usually free parking in the lot (as long as the nearby power lifting gym doesn't hold a competition, which always results in an overload of cars). The Pros: * Lots of different dishes with more proteins than the standard fare (i.e. lengua, shrimp.) * Customer service is usually very fast, friendly, and knowledgable. * Costs are affordable (unlike other shops that have jacked up their prices) * They offer free chips and salsa if you dine in The Cons: * During this past visit, the salsa bar had lemons instead of limes. * The bathroom meets the bare minimum but could definitely use a remodel (or at least a deep cleaning) The Conclusion: Ponchos Tacos is not perfect, but it's one of my go-to places when I want good street tacos, mulitas, or vampiros at an affordable price.
