We just went through the drive through for some burritos. I can hear the staff laughing at the person making our burritos saying "we can't even trust you to wrap a burrito" followed by more jokes. All while we were at the window. We get home our burritos aren't even edible they fall apart, super greasy. We were so disappointed. There is a time and place to mess around and this was not it. So disappointed. Had family from out of town asking for freshly made tortillas. Decided to stop in and have lunch as well. I wanted ala cart. She up sold to a combo which more than tripled the price and got about two ounces of beans and a " we are out of rice" when it was ready. The meat in the tacos was so hard you could not chew it. If you are looking for delicious, homemade flour or corn tortillas or amazing/spicy/mouth watering carne asada or lengua tacos, great tripa burritos stuffed full of rice and beans, or huge asada burritos bursting with flavor, then stop by this place! We were in Nipomo for a 3 day event and drove from Nipomo each day to have tacos, burritos, and tortillas. Service was fast and efficient. We had people from Fresno, Bakersfield, East LA, and Ventura. All agreed the food was authentic and amazing. Both red and green salsa were tasty but the majority of our group liked the green salsa because it was actually spicy! Even just eating a plain flour tortilla dipped in green sauce was so good!!. This is my favorite fast Mexican food in SM. The drive thru is easy and the menu has everything from Birria to burritos to Chile Rellenos, Enchiladas and combo plates all with house made tortillas you can order by the pound (flour or corn). The staff is always friendly and the flavors authentic. I usually get to go but have been inside as well. The building has an old adobe feel and it's a walk up counter to order and seat yourself. Highly recommend this place if you're getting a quick bite passing thru town - or maybe you're local and agree this place is muy bueno!! read more

I would give this less than a star if possible, we were the only people in the restaurant when we walked in and ordered to breakfast burritos by no means a complex order and the wait was over 30 minutes as they proceeded to fulfill almost 10 other people's orders while we waited. I don't think it's possible to have gotten a worse experience and to think two burritos and a drink cost $27 for such awful work is mind blowing. read more

Had my Mother-in-law pick us up some Dinner Saturday August 15 around 5pm. Place has always been hit or miss for me but they do have a descent rotisserie chicken. She ordered our chicken and some tacos for herself and when she got home she noticed they were not in the bag. She served us our meal before she mustard up the courage to go back, and get her food that they have forgotten. When she gets there she gets harassed on why she took an hour to come claim her missing food by the male employee at the drive thru but we don't just live down the street. And Its just not a good way of handling things when it's an older woman asking to make things right. She was given her food but it left a bad impression of the level of customer service. This is a classic taqueria. The portions and prices cannot be beat. I do eat meat, but love healthy vegetarian options. The nachos and burritos are great, but my favorite are the sopes and tacos Aztecas. They have freshly sauteed onion, tomatoes, chiles, cactus beans, cheese and are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Coming from San Antonio, I try not to be hard on Mexican food joints outside of my state. Look, everyone knows we do it best, and anyone who says otherwise is in complete denial. So I gave this place a shot to forego the line at the other Mexican place across the street, La Picosita. I guess there's a reason there was a line there and not here... The first thing I noticed is that this place was empty. Not a good sign. But I then noticed they had a very solid menu board and a salsa bar, so I thought, "Okay, this might not be so bad." AND the tortillas were made in-house. That's a win for me. And the prices were mostly under $10, so not a bad deal considering. The wait time for food was about 5 - 10 minutes, which I thought was not so bad - when there are actually people around. The salsa in the salsa bar was only okay. The evening shift was rude. Specifically a male worker who initially gave us attitude for asking for one more salsa. We checked our order and they forgot to give us an order of tacos. We called and requested to pick up the tacos. We get to the drive through window , he hands them over and walks away. Doesn't even let us talk . They are OPEN on Sundays. Tried a Carne asada monster burrito which is a super burrito at most other places. It is very large but not great, it costs $10, they include a good amount of meat but also pack lettuce in it. It was falling apart, and the tortilla it was wrapped in was cold. No...this is not some fancy Mexican restaurant. It's an eatery for the working person. It's a place to stop in and get the kids tastier, healthier food that is hand made, not faster-poo-food from some prefabricated McCorporate grease and chemical franchise. Tortilleria Mexico just appeared in front of me while I was driving through Santa Maria, California while making a delivery run from Los Angeles. I often freelance as a livery driver to make ends meet. I do my very best to avoid fast-food chains at all costs. There's nothing better than real, hand-made food...and who doesn't love authentic Mexican food? The service here is great. Very friendly folks serving really good, simple, delicious food. You can even get a beer with your meal, and good Mexican food happily goes hand in hand with a cold brew. (Remember, don't drink and drive!) If you have a beer, make sure you're going to be hanging out for a while. I sat and ate slowly, to enjoy my vegetarian burrito, which was the best veggie burrito I have had at a place like this in a very long time. I've been to other Mexican restaurants that serve veggie burritos...and so far, I have had an unhappy experience. But Tortilleria Mexico surprised me very much. I ended up also purchasing a package of freshly made corn tortillas to take home. They are SO fresh and delicious! Awesome sopes! They made them by hand, I watched from the window, and they were so good! The staff is super friendly and although I did have to wait, it so worth it! Salsa was great and I liked the beans. 5 stars for the sopes....the rice was okay, but I'm judging against my dad's rice which is a tough test!
