The monthly classes are a fantastic value. Held in the surprisingly nice "community" space within each store, the classes seat roughly 25 and for $20, even include a catered lunch! A group of us took the whisky class, and while it reaffirmed my hatred of scotch, it also introduced me to several new bourbons. You get eight "tastings", which are roughly 1/3 of a shot (though after the class is over, there may or may not have been many more "tastings" going around.) The instructor goes over the distillery and a brief history of the whisky in front of you, as well as leading you through the tasting notes. Our instructor was a little stilted to start off with, reading directly off his PowerPoint slides, but after his third tasting, he loosened up and became quite personable. Protip: Don't be a wallflower, engage the instructor! They'll feel better about the class and they may even give you some insight into hidden bargains around the store. For the money, the classes really are informative and fun, it's a shame they don't have them more often. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences with the Total Wine and More chain, until I came to this location. Most of the employees wear their masks below their nose as they walk around trying not to make eye contact with the customers. The sales team on the complete opposite spectrum is uber-aggressive and rude. They act put upon when asked any questions and snotty if you refuse to sample the store's brands which they are clearly paid to promote. One woman in particular, acted like my friends and I were idiots for not wanting to change brands. We will not return here. read more

We don't normally feel a burning need to review retail establishments, but this place has been so consistently awesome that we have to give it some Yelp love. We ended up here a couple months ago after the Twin Liquors by us (Hancock Center) was out of our beloved Pimm's. Total Wine & More is cavernous and daunting when you walk in, but once you get a hang of the layout, it's pretty easy to navigate. A special shoutout to the bearded guy with glasses who is wonderfully helpful every time that we're there. He even spent a good 15 minutes with one of us last month as she was trying to figure out the best way to set a Baked Alaska on fire (Kirsch, warmed a bit on the stove, FYI). They have a great wine and beer selection and spirits tend to be a buck or two cheaper here. We're hard people to impress but this place impresses us, so we really don't care that it's a mega chain. I called to ask a few questions about kegs and wine for my upcoming wedding. I was transferred to a manager, Brian. He was rude and condescending. If I'm calling to ask questions, I obviously don't know the answer. He told me the wine that I was asking about was cheap and nothing but sweet, so there would be no reason to try them ahead of time. I asked about a keg, which I've never rented or drank from before, and it was a bother for him to explain the process to me. Total wine may have the largest selection, but due to their lack of customer service, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Then he told me that he doesn't take shhh**t from instacart workers " then I told him I don't work for instacart ? Typically love the place. cheapest prices in Austin to my knowledge. couldn't find my debit card so i decided i would place an online order for one bottle (called ahead before to assure i could pick up my bottle within the same couple of hour, was told yes because there wasn't very many orders) placed my order which has to be $50 or more and upon arrival i was told it would be ready in 4-5 hours because there's 130 orders ahead of me. at 4pm. the liquor store closes at 9. cheap prices. terrible customer service. read more

So this is my store. Someone named Sarah Champeau used to work there and I have to say it just isn't the same without her. She always a helped my partner and I, never making us feel rushed. She answered our questions and always recommended new things based on what we like/buy. We've been in a few times since she's left (I hope for her sake she left for more money or a better opportunity, because she really was a totally badass and I know this company has to be hurting without her) and we've never had the same level of service since Sarah. It's a 5 start for Sarah honestly. I'd give this location a 4 star otherwise. They have a great selection, but no one cares like Sarah did. I stopped in to get some tequila for a gift basket, and before I even got all the way inside, a nicely dressed gentleman greeted me and asked what I needed help finding. I was treated politely, and when another employee directed me to the wine I also wanted, she spent a lot of time discussing various growing areas, showing her knowledge but also listening to what I really wanted. This kind of customer service is what sets this store apart in Austin. I'll definitely be back- their inventory was too large to examine closely in just one trip! read more
