There's very little that Town Hall can do wrong in my mind, as I'm a big fan of the mothership location in Seven Corners and Town Hall Lanes in Nokomis, so it's no surprise that Town Hall Tap has quickly become one of my go-to's in my new neighborhood. As one would expect from a Town Hall location, beer is going to be the focal point. They usually have a handful of tap handles serving Town Hall draughts from the Seven Corners location and the rest of the twenty or so taps are rounded out by a number of local and regional craft brewers (and generally a pretty good selection of ciders). Also, wine and beer only here - venture on craft cocktail aficionados. Food-wise, Town Hall Tap is similar to the rest of the Town Hall family, it's bar food with a little bit of extra effort and flare, but it's not breaking any molds. Expect a lot of burgers, fried foods and usual suspect sandwiches. The Cubano and various burgers rarely disappoint, even if they are pretty standard fare. Service has always been very friendly regardless of the hour on the clock and the ambiance is inviting - definitely a welcome spot in what is overall a pretty residential part of town. read more

I love this place! The beer and wine selection is great and the food is delicious. They could do with a few healthier and/or smaller portioned meals but I can't complain about the quality. Their chicken sandwiches are my favorite entrees and the pork wings are to die for. Some reviewers need to lighten up...they opened less than two months ago and the conversations I've had with a couple of the waitstaff and bartenders show they know about the drafty door and are working on it. If you aren't into kids you may want to wait until after 9...this is a neighborhood place so there always seems to be at least one annoying brat in the place. Overall I think once this place has worked out the minimal kinks they have it is going to be my new hang out. Great food, great beer and great service. They've got me hooked!! Just found out they support a few local businesses which is great for the neighborhood. They've done some promo stuff with Rue 48 Salon (also had some bathroom stuff in the men's and women's restrooms which quickly vanished), Spruce Floral, Soverign Grounds Coffee House (they use their beans to make the Java Porter which is DELICIOUS) and they use Turtle Bread for the optional bread bowl you can order with their soup. Well let's just jump into. Two stars are for their beer. Their selection and freshness is excellent. You have a selection of cask beers, nitro beers, and your standard CO2 from MPLS' vibrant craft beer scene. Will always hit them up for beer if I am in the neighborhood, and you should too! Town Hall Tap lost two stars because they apparently can't cook a hamburger, and the server was aloof at best. I usually ask for my burgers to be medium rare because most often they over cook them at restaurants (except for Red Cow which is awesome). With this logic I usually end up with a burger that is medium or at worst medium well. I take a bite of my burger and found out it was served completely well done, and quite frankly devoid of any type of moisture one would find in a burger. The server asked how is everything and I said this burger is way over cooked. She took my burger and brought me another. Which isn't a big deal...things happen. Sadly the second burger served was well done as well, but not as dry. She came by and asked how it was, and I said it is the same as the other. Her reply was "sorry, I am just the server." I left it at that. It wasn't worth the effort to continue any conversation with her, or discuss this with mgmt. If you can't cook a burger the way you ask to have it prepared, why ask? I will be wary next time on what I order, or at least go into the pub lowering my expectations. read more

I went with the Patty Melt and Ye dialed in the Chicken Tenders Flight. The food was good but didn't blow me away. Solid beers on tap to get wiggity wild on. I'll start off by saying my husband loves this place! I love their beer, but to me the food is just ok. I've been here twice now. I had the same burger the hubbie had, the brewers burger with goat cheese, I thought it was alright he on the other hand wants to eat it everyday. We started off with the brie curds, how do they get them into a square!? That's served with jalapeno jelly. I had the Northern cubano, personally I would have like it better without the ham but that would just be a pulled pork sandwich now wouldn't it. The sauce they gave me was old and had a film on it - eewww. All the beers we had were Surly furious on cask, yes on cask - the best! Dortmunder - yum! And the verbalvine (not sure on that spelling). I like this place, it feels like a real gastro pub. Very neighborhood hangout feel, but great food. Enjoyed the fried pickles, I liked them more without the sauce. Small app but each bite was delicious. Enjoyed the blockbuster pressed sandwich, oh yeah, this thing rocked. The fries are super crispy and well seasoned. Tons of meat, great bread, dude its good. Have been visiting sporadically for nearly three years after moving into the neighborhood in 2015 and have yet to order anything that makes us fans. As residents of the neighborhood it's convenient enough to walk over when we're too tired or lazy to cook or head out somewhere good that requires a drive but we have learned to keep our expectations low with THT. The truth is that there is noting here that is truly terrible but also nothing really good either. I started with the Parkway Java Porter on nitro. Delicious. Anyone who likes Guinness would love this For an entree - I went with the pulled pork sandwich. Holy crap. One of the best I've ever had. Perfect amount of heat in the sauce and cilantro seasoning in the slaw. It took me about 30 seconds to inhale it. For the side - I substituted the chicken and vegetable soup instead of fries. Only mistake I made. Not much flavor. I had to add a lot of salt As for decor - eh. Lots of dark wood. I don't love it. But I would come back any day for the pork. Great beer list too. I've already reviewed the Town Hall Brewery but I couldn't go without giving this place it's deserved 5 stars as well. I actually prefer the tap because of it's neighborhood feel, kind of "cheers" like or something like that. Like the brewery the tap has a great and above average menu. I absolutely love the black bean burger. This is not some frozen crappy veg burger they just tossed on the menu for good measure. This thing is massive and probably the best bean burger I've ever had. The beer selection is very similar to the brewery which should be pretty obvious. They always have something on cask, which for me is one of those things I look for in a good beer place, very few places have casks on hand. Not only do they have their TH beers on tap, they also have other guest beers their which is pretty awesome. Not that they're needed with the great TH selection but it's nice to see. At last, this review would not be complete if I didn't strongly urge you to try their Parkway Java Porter. This is my favorite porter by far. Super smooth milk chocolaty and with hints of coffee. Added bonus points for being relatively low ABV at somewhere around 5% or less so you can slam how ever many you want! Absolutely amazing. read more

I have to admit that perhaps my expectations were too high for this place. It has a nice feel, but they were out of several of the beers on their chalk board and on the menus (which is annoying) and the server didn't know what had replaced any of the beers that had run out and had to keep running away to check. In most places this would not be a big deal, but this is a beer joint, yo. Service was okay, food was okay, bill was more than I would have liked given the overall experience. I really, really wanted to like this place. I miss Sherlock's Home and the idea of a gastropub that brews their own variety of craft beers. But, alas, it just was not to be for me. Service - While I was waiting for my dining partner to arrive, the waitress came by and asked me if I wanted to order a drink. I told her I wasn't sure and that I would wait until my dining partner arrived. Apparently that pissed her off since we got very inattentive service after that. She didn't bring napkins and silverware (we had to grab them from the host's stand), came by very perfunctorily after the meal showed up to ask how our food was, and we never saw her again until we were ready to settle up. It was busy, but not *that* busy. Dislike. Beer -- I had an IPA, he ordered the java porter. They both were quite good. You can really smell and taste the coffee notes in the porter. I was disheartened that a place that serves both beer and hard cider did not offer snake bites on their drink menu! Food - It was already almost 10, so we didn't order an appetizer. I'm glad we didn't order the brie curds based on the descriptions of other reviewers. I was surprised by the fairly limited menu. There are five or six burgers and eight or nine sandwiches. He had the Heidelburger, I had the Blockbuster. I was underwhelmed by the burger, it was okay... but nothing special. It said the burger was "stuffed with onions". I didn't find that to be the case. The sandwich was taste, but also fairly sparse in terms of the amount of meat provided. The fries were hot and crispy. Ambiance - Loud, crowded, fun. Lots of beer memorabilia on the walls which was very cool. As other reviewers noted, the bathrooms are single stall bathrooms. The woman's room has a lever handle and newer hardware, as it should, but the mens' room is not accessible -- it has a round knob that does not lock,, and a locking slide bolt that is installed far too high for ADA. I can't believe that passed a code inspection. Overall... the inattentive service and the okay food makes this a place that I wouldn't go out of my way to go to in the future. If I am in the neighborhood, I might stop by, but it isn't a "must go to" destination -- at least for me. If I could give it 2 1/2 stars, I would, but I since my experience was less than "A-OK", two stars it is. read more

The Good: As others have said, the interior is great. Love the vintage beer signs. Very good selection of in-house beers--I had the Marmalade Pale Ale. They also had Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout which will be my selection next time. The Tap House burger and fries were delicious--and huge! The Bad: For MN, it's not that cold out yet--34 degrees. However, the place was really chilly inside. My girlfriend and I had what we thought was a great seat near the front of house. But it was so cold with people opening and closing the door. Even near the back of the place I could feel the chill. Check your tab closely and watch out for mysterious up-charges: the burger was supposed to come with a side of "Tap Sauce"-- when it didn't, we asked for some but got charged for it. Onions and tomato were extra, too. C'mon, that should be included!! Overall, service was good and food and beer were good. A few minor quibbles, but we'll be back. read more

They offer a happy hour which is pretty weak on the deals, but their beers brewed in house are always at a pretty decent price, so its okay. They have guest beers as well, but I always get one of their own. The place is almost always hoppin' but the bartenders are always really nice and enjoy a good conversation. I'll be baaack. Say it with me, Parmesan Jerk Wings. Parmesan Jerk Wings! This should become a household rub for all things wing related. I never would have thought of this combination on my own, you da man, Town Hall Tap. The wings were cooked to a crispy perfection and mashed wonderfully with the side of bleu cheese for dipping and my Deschutes Stout for drinking. I get a little crazy every time I hit up The Tap trying to decide which burger to get. I have tried three of their burgers so far and have been obsessed with them all. I keep trying new ones just to see if they have the ability to make bad food. Apparently they don't. Last time I was there I had The Heidelburger which has Tillamook cheddar, onions and baco bits smothering the ground beef. The Heidelburger came with an excellent sized portion of lightly seasoned fries. The one downfall of this place is the temp of the fries, they never seem hot enough for me, they are always luke warm. If you're looking for great wings, burgers and a cute neighborhood bar all wrapped up in one, The Town Hall Tap is for you. Side note-They serve Town Hall Brewery's beers but also have other beers you can choose from, which means you don't have to only drink their brewed beer like some other breweries. I think this could be our new neighborhood stomping grounds.... had a visit late-ish last night (around 10pm on a Monday night) and really liked it. Thanks to the previous yelp reviews we knew to order the fried pickles. And they were very good -- and stuffed with cream cheese as well; not too fried taste either. The atmosphere was pretty casual. Liked the vibe there; and wasn't too packed in the bar or restaurant part. So we opted for a tall table in the bar, as far away from the front door as possible (to keep away from the cold outside.) The bartender who took care of us was very attentive, and provided excellent service. On to the food and drink: We had two of the tap ciders -- both reservados. Delish! I think mine was tequila barreled or something like that? Very tasty. I wasn't overly hungry, just needed something in my stomach. So we shared the fried pickles as an app. I had the beer cheese soup, and the husband had the Chicago style bratwurst w fries. *Fried pickles - very good! (Not OMG these are the best things evah!!! good, just real good!) *Beer cheese soup - good. A little lighter than other beer cheese soups i've had. (Husband said maybe there's more beer than cheese in the soup..? ha!) *Chicago bratwurst w fries - overall the sandwich was very good. (according to him). We stumbled across this place thinking we were at Adrian's Pub but it was a fortunate accident because the food was great, atmosphere fabulous, and server top-notch! It was a beautiful night and they have the garage doors so even though we sat inside, it felt like we were partially outside. The food we ordered was: Deep fried pickles with jalapenos and cream cheese with a chutney sauce. A chicken salad sandwich on a pretzel roll. A honey mustard chicken sandwich with bacon and provolone. The pickles were interesting, I liked them. I did not like the chutney but that was probably just more taste than anything. To me the dip tasted like pureed prunes. My friend said the pretzel roll was really yummy, grilled perfectly with just a little crunch on the outside, while soft on the inside. My honey mustard chicken sandwich was really good and the fries were perfectly done. Our server was the best!! Glasses never were empty for more than a minute at the most. She was pleasant, attentive, and oh, how I wish there were more servers like her out there!!! It's great to have a watering hole like this in the neighborhood. It's got a nice cozy atmosphere and the house IPA definitely holds its own against Surly and Bells. My friend and I call this place "The Ragamuffin" because really that's all you need to know on the menu. Their fried chicken sandwich is really, really tasty. It's simple; bun, fried chicken, lettuce, mayo. Nothing fancy about it. No tomato making things mushy, no ridiculous aioli spread everywhere, no magical seasonings sprinkled on top. It's fried chicken done the way I want it. Their beers on tap are a-okay too. The Masala Mama IPA was my favorite but another time I was here I was recommended an amber ale which was blech. If you're not a beer drinker, try their housemade root beer. It's really spicy, heavy on the sarsaparilla with some vanilla-y notes in the background. Summer tip: in warmer weather, the front of the house opens right onto the patio making this an easy-breasy place to enjoy some drinks and good eats. read more

Ok I'm updating after far too long. I really like this place. My last review was only for breakfast, now I've been there many more times and really like going here for late night drinks and snacks. The servers are great. The restaurant is great. The food is great. Get the chicken strips tossed in their buffalo sauce - you won't be disappointed. Finally made it here - after a broomball game. I was a little disappointed in the beer selection - its decent - almost larger - but definitely caters to the IPA crowd, which I am only a fair weather member - I much prefer the Belgians. So def not as many as the town hall brewery itself, but not a bad selection, just not what I was looking for at the time. . . The sandwich however was pretty darn good - i got the cuban sandwich and it was pretty great - french fries were delish and we also tried the brie cheese curds with blackberry sauce - wowsers - it was delicious. I would not go back for brunch it was very expensive for what it was. The burrito was fine but not for the cost. The standard coffee at four dollars felt over priced. The three three oz mimosas as part of the flight for $16 felt over priced. The regular mimosas below three dollars was the highlight. read more

Gotta have a masala mama on a regular basis... Love that beer (IPA). I haven't even tried most of the other beers because I know what I want! The food here the past time I went was decent, although not as good as past visits to this spot. Actually liked the turkey burger quite a bit but the pulled pork on the Cubano was really dry. The Brie curds are good, but don't expect a mountain of curds... It's about 8 bite size pieces, which makes me think they are a little over priced. Finally the service was very average this past visit. Sat outside and wasn't sure if the bar tender was taking care of us, or if it was supposed to be the server. We got our own silverware and our own menus... Strange. read more

We just got back from a nice dinner and drinks from the Town Hall Tap. They had a great selection of beer in their bar. The ambiance was terrific and it felt like a comfortable place to have dinner. It seemed pretty energetic and the wait staff was very friendly. The food value is good. We both had a 1/2 LB Angus Burger and they were excellent. I tried a Marmalade Sky Pale Ale with dinner and it was cold (as a beer should be) and it was excellent as well. I would definitely recommend this eatery to anyone in the area. Yes, yes, yes. And yes, please. Great atmosphere, a few TVs for those who want to watch the game, but not so many to be distracting. The front walls of the bar are garage doors, so on those summer days where the weather is perfect they open them up to Chicago Ave. to bring the outside in. It's terrific. Great beer list. They rotate Town Hall Tap beers but more often than not seem to have the same 4 available. It's slightly disappointing because I LOVe the Town Hall Tap Scotch Ale and that is almost never on the list. Their rotating guest beers are always fun to try, and the servers usually know enough about each of them to be able to point you in the right direction if you're not familiar with what they carry. Great food. Order the jalapeno stuffed pretzels and tap sauce, then try to tell me you don't think about them as you lay in bed at night before falling asleep. You do. It's ok. Don't lie about it. We're all friends here. The ragamuffin chicken sandwich is a perfect fried chicken sandwich. Crispy, peppery, and always perfectly cooked. The rag top (ragamuffin dipped in wing sauce and covered in blue cheese) reaffirmed my faith in a good buffalo chicken sandwich. After years of not ordering them because they were usually disappointing, this got me back on the wagon. Or off the wagon, I don't know how that saying goes. Regardless, I'll eat this one again. I was so excited when Town Hall Tap finally opened. That spot has been 3 other restaurants over the past 4 years, so I'm hoping that Town Hall Tap sticks. I pretty much agree with everything Steve S said - the beer selection is great and I love the decor / atmosphere. Can't wait for warm weather when the big glass doors can be open. Totally agree about the chilly temps inside. I wonder if they can put up a partition near the front door because it was really cold from the door being open every couple of minutes. The service is really good - everyone is super friendly and excited to be at the new location. The food is just so-so for me. The fries are wonderful, and I've heard good things about the walleye sandwich. I've had a burger and it came plain - seriously, no tomato/lettuce, and no "tap sauce" as mentioned on the menu. I can get a better, and smaller (I don't need 1/2 lbs) burger next door at Adrian's for 1/2 the price. Had the veggie sandwich too - if you really want something a little lighter and bland, order this. It really was just a pile of sauteed plain veggies on top of a piece of Turtle Bread bread.
