What do you know about Cold Cheese Pizza? I didn't know much. It turns out it's another gimmick in America's favorite [and worthy] pastime of trying to figure out how to add more cheese to things. It tastes good after many, many drinks, but it's pretty standard pizza...just dangerously cheesy. I do appreciate their thoughtfulness: if you order a full pie for consumption in a nearby bar, they will give you the cold cheese in multiple cups for dumping on right before consumption. The store was packed but the line moved very quickly. Since there weren't many food options on the island, I was here numerous times this MDW. I tried their pizza (plain, plain with cold cheese, plain with cold cheese +boom boom sauce), chicken fingers, chicken fries, french fries, and mozz sticks and everything was great! I highly recommend this place for any of your pizza needs. I tried one other pizza place on the island and it didn't even come close to this one. Definitely worth trying the cold cheese slice and the boom boom sauce! Just be careful the sauce can be a little spicy, so if you aren't into that I'd ask for it on the side so you can dip as you please. Line can get pretty long but moves quick and you receive your food pretty quickly if you are just looking for slices. Here is a very good secret I will share with you all. Walk to the front of the line saying you are a cash customer. Before the crowd begins to spill your blood take a $50 and throw it in the tip cup. Tell the guys that the next 2 pies out of the oven are yours and they can keep the change for the kids. That worked for me every Sat night for a summer. I then returned to my house where I was applauded and reimbursed for my squandered $50. Do not forget to tell everyone on the line that you are a cash customer and snapping the fifty helps add to your mystery. Bring backup in case things changed over the last decade or so. The tourists and masses love pizza and the drunks could always use a quick bite to tide over their stomachs before they get on the 1am ferry. I wasn't quite in either of the above demographics (well... I DID have 2 drinks but I hadn't eaten all day) so I laid out $10 for 2 tomato and mozzarella slices. The crust was crunchy and a little burnt but everything else was just a mushy oily mess. Was just there yesterday and ordered chicken tenders for $8.00 They took my money and said to wait. I waited and waited and noticed other people who came in after me getting their food while i was still waiting. I asked where my food was and they said "two minutes" that turned into another 15 minutes!!!!!! I wasnt alone as I looked around and shared an eye roll with at least four people still waiting. I look at the time and the Ferry is now loading. I try to ask for my money back but nobody would glance my way. Big decision: Go home on Ferry or get stuck here for two hours and chance it with getting my food. I opted for the Ferry $8.00 short. If that's not enough for you, know this, there were 6 people behind me with the same story. This is the the town pizza place, thus the name TOWN PIZZA. There are a couple others, but I don't think they recieve as much traffic as this one. This place is pretty tiny, but it has a certain charm to it. It doesn't want to be fancy and upscale. It just wants to serve pizza... I got a regular slice and my friend got a mushroom slice. Pretty basic stuff, but really satisfying. The bread is thin, light, crispy, gives a nice chew chew chew in your mouth! The sauce and cheese were nothing special by itself, but all together really works! This $4 pizza slice was worst than the $1 slices in Manhattan. This was probably the worst pizza my girlfriend and I ever tried. I mean, it made me sick to my stomach when I ate my first bite (after bite 2, threw it out). Same goes for my girlfriend. The cheese was of the lowest quality and sauce was just bad. Absolutely horrible! We were told by a friendly local on the ferry that this was the best pizza on fire Island. I disagree! I tried two other pizza places and the others weren't great either. Although I must say that the one next to Schooners was the best, even though it was well below NYC standards.
