Did take out from Saint James pizza based on several recommendations. What a disappointment. First, we ordered 2 pies and a salad for pickup and were told it would be one hour! That is crazy, an hour for 2 pies and a salad. Perhaps it was an off night but the Sicilian pizza was so bad we threw half the pie away. Nestled in the heart of our quaint town on Lake Avenue is a pizzeria that was taken over around the beginning of COVID. This also happened to correspond with when I moved to this area (late 2020). As any native New Yorker does, I scoped out the pizza places near by that I could call for delivery or get a quick slice from. In the years since, I have been rewarded greatly from being a patron at this wonderful establishment. The owners work hard behind the counter and doing deliveries, and of course, making pizza. Their pizza is absolutely delicious, with a sauce that EVER SO SLIGHTLY reminds me of vodka sauce without being a flat, caustic regular tomato sauce. A fresh pie is affordable, fast, and fresh. My kids' favorite is the Brooklyn pie - an "upside down" Sicilian, if you will, where the sauce goes on top of the cheese. It's one of mine as well. Local place with amazing pizza. The wings are great plain without any sauce nice and crispy. Their portions are big for the entrees, enough for two meals! Prices are good. It's all very clean and bright. As we had ordered when we got there we did have to wait a bit but it was okay we weren't in a rush and they even apologized for the wait. Just moved to the area a few months ago and ordered a full regular pie. From the time I called I wanted to like the pizza, the owner sounded like a really pleasant and nice guy. In person, place was very clean, owner was super cool and threw in a few extras to try- not even knowing it was my first time. Out of the 20 places ive tried across Smithtown and St James (Spuntino was my favorite before here) they blew it out of the water. Pizza was crispy, great sauce, great cheese. I came here for dinner with my son, my friend, her husband and their two kids. We grabbed a table. At the time I was still vegan and trying to save money so I just ordered the chicken fingers and french fries and got my son a soda. Sometimes my son and I can get away with sharing a meal because he'll get the chicken fingers and I'll eat the fries. My friend got a pizza and a salad and drinks for her family. We were able to grab a table and a very nice staff member possibly relative of the owner named Harris helped us out big time. He bought our food over to the table as it was ready. You have to appreciate a person who helps out people with children. I'm giving this place 5 stars based on my recent experience with them. This place was formerly known as "Matt's Pizza." I usually equated Matt's Pizza to that episode of Seinfeld with the Soup Nazi. They had awesome pizza, but my goodness, the customer service was severely lacking and the owner was always somewhat of a major grump. I'm writing this review during the "stay at home" order for the Coronavirus. However, my son had a hankering for pizza last week, and we decided to give the new ownership of this place a try. So I called them up to place an order, kind of expecting the same grumpy reaction that I always used to get before. Imagine my surprise when I got a cheery voice on the phone. The person on the phone was super friendly, super helpful, and allowed me to go ahead and make my payment on the credit card so that I could just come in and pick up my food with little interaction. I see a previously reviewer complaining that the crust is different from the previous owners. Not sure why you'd complain about that. The place is under new management and they are going to do things their way. Having said that, I felt that the pizza was still delicious, the crust wasn't really all THAT different, and it certainly put a smile on my face and that of my family when we ate it. Also, they use fresh mushrooms, which is a must for any pizza place. The garlic knots where super chewy and delicious, just the way I like them. We also got a nice fresh salad that was crisp & fantastic. Support this establishment during these tough times. They need us, and I for one and happy they are there. read more

I've been living in Stony Brook for the past two years. It has been a challenge finding great pizza in the area, but having tried many different places within a five mile radius, I can honestly say St. James Pizza is the clear winner. The formula has been consistent, and the sauce is top notch. There are a couple places that come close, but the overall problem with many pizzerias in the area is that they use way too much dough. The pizza is too thick and heavy which makes a slice feel limp and undercooked. I'll give 4 stars simply because the menu is limited. They keep it simple ; don't expect to see a wide variety of entrees. This is not a deal breaker for me as this review was mainly about the pizza. Excellent job, St. James.
