I came here on a Sunday morning with my mom and sister for a girls day - we thought the Veuve Clicquot pop up would be there since it said it was happening this weekend but unfortunately that meant only Saturday. The floor is a little slippery when you're walking in the restaurant (not really sure why??) and it was colder inside than it would be outside (I was later informed by our waiter this was because the back door was open.) The service was great and everything came really quickly but the food was overhyped and mediocre in my opinion. You can't modify the chilaquiles because they're premade, the eggs Benedict was good but nothing special. Maybe I'll come back for dinner and give it another chance? read more

Unfortunately, we won't be returning. They messed up two of our steaks twice. Also had food safety concerns. The service was decent but the experience of celebrating was ruined by the badly cooked steaks. We ordered 4 steaks on medium rare, and two of them turned up completely done, while the other two was very unevenly cooked (rare in some areas and well done in others). We sent the two completely well done ones back. The waitress agreed they weren't medium rare. And of course we then had to awkwardly wait as they cooked new ones. When the steaks were served again, they were RAW; one looked like ahi tuna and the other looked uncooked. I was worried about food safety so I shared my steak with my husband and he didn't have to eat it. This is not what you'd expect for a 70 dollar steak. I would have skipped the review on the food but decided to write it after we got our check. they add a "3% employer mandates", that felt like a political anti gov statement. No other restaurant, in the last 7 days that we are visiting from the east coast, added it. No explanation or any warning that we saw. it was also calculated after tax added. why do we have to pay a mandate for employers? should have been included on prices listed. People seem to like the food, perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes but I ordered the burger without any sauce and it came swimming in a slightly sweet sauce that made the bun all soggy. I was not asked how I wanted it and it was much more rear than I like. I did not complain bec by then I had already asked three times for mustard and the burger was somewhat cold. Fries were decent. Hubby ordered pasta, some basic rigatoni with tons of a red pasty sauce that tasted like jar sauce. it came with a tasty garlic bread. We really liked their outdoor seating and they gave us the booth we asked for. However, having been to 4 other excellent restaurants in San Carlos in the last week this one is not high on my list to return. read more

Came here for a goodbye work lunch and it was one of my favorite meals I've had in the San Carlos area. Three years later? I'm still dreaming about the bread pudding. I came here for the first time and it was just okay. The Super Roll was absolutely amazing! This was the only item we ended up enjoying. I ordered the Super Bowl. It was not enjoyable to eat. It just felt like a healthy meal I would make at home vs being excited about how the chef made it flavorful and delicious. I added the salmon and it was dry and not warm. My fiancé ordered the Bone-In Ribeye that comes with two sides. He chose creamed spinach and the loaded potato. He had to send the ribeye back since it was blue in the middle. He ordered it medium rare. The creamed spinach was way too creamy. There was not enough spinach in it. The potato was perfect. They do not take reservations. They're so busy the servers do not come to the table often. I was both surprised and let down a bit by this place. Let's start with the good. The service here was amazing. My wife and I came in on a Sunday around 11:00. We were told it would be about a twenty minute wait and gave them my number. About ten minutes later, I received a text that our seats were ready (more restaurants should use this system if it works effectively instead of the buzzers). After we were seated, our server did an excellent job helping us. He answered all our numerous questions since my wife has so many allergies. We were constantly checked on and helped. The service itself was five stars. On to the eh... the food was a letdown. My wife ordered the filet mignon with broccoli. I ordered the ribeye and crab sandwich. My wife said the filet mignon was okay. I can't really say her filet mignon was a true representation of Town's usual. She asked for it well done... and she only had it with salt and pepper due to her allergies. However, my food was nothing special. For $49 I was expecting something amazing. The ribeye tasted like something I could make at home. The only positive I can say is that it was cooked the way I wanted it. The crab sandwich was also nothing special. It was good, but nothing that made it worth $24. Overall, food is average and service is excellent. If it weren't for the service, this place would easily be 3 stars. read more

Visited a couple weeks ago. Food, drinks and dessert were on point. The service was great! It was busy like always, wait was about 1 hr. They got us seated 20 mins early which was nice. Really good vibe inside with good lighting. I split the Mary's chicken plate in half which is best practice at this point. Still had leftovers! Espresso martini was really good per usual. Their pear martini is another fav of mine. We split the 6 layer chocolate cake, very nice and fluffy moist cake with chocolate dressing but not too rich, just right! If you want a good steakhouse in the mid SF Peninsula, this is the place! I've been to Town many times before, just never did a review. I can say without a doubt this place has never disappointed! The space is very clean, luxurious and is a great spot for anniversaries, date night, birthday or just a great dinner! I ordered the Cesar salad and it was great! Just the right amount of dressing and lettuce was nice, crispy and fresh tasting. It's a good sized salad to share for two maybe three people. I also shared the beets and burrata cheese appetiser. The cheese was very fresh and creamy at the same time! I decided to order the crab crusted steak with creamed spinach and broccoli. I ordered my steak medium and it was prepared perfectly! The exterior was nice and cooked, yet inside was moist and tasty. The crab meat crust made this a very unique tasting steak like a surf and turf. Creamed spinach and broccoli were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. My friend ordered the fish plate, which was cooked perfectly and tasted very good with seasoning on top of a bed of zucchini noodles. For dessert, we split the hot fudge chocolate sundae, which is a must and enough to share! The hot fudge and vanilla bean ice cream was amazing! I cannot fault this place and have been coming since they opened - including after the pandemic let up but we still had to eat outside - and now inside - you can be as serious or light hearted as you want - cocktails are awesome here and they do not give you cheap crap or watered down alcohol in your drinks - I'd call the bartenders Mixologists lol - and it's how we start every meal here - then we eat ...anything! I think by now I've had everything but then I find something new (FOMO QUEEN OVER HERE) and order it - seriously though the things I've ordered multiple times are deviled eggs, ribeye, skirt steak something (teriyaki?), seared tuna something, and sangria (oh did I go back to alcohol?) - and yeah bread pudding dessert - ok we'll this review is long enough but YEAH I love this place and will go with you when you are near! My bff and I did a Galentines brunch and wanted something a bit cute and all the pics looked nice here along with the food Yelp is out of date for this restaurant!!! Head to their website or call. They do NOT open at 1230 they open at 10 and we were disappointed when I called and asked which webpage should we rely on. They didn't seem concerned or bothered this was a mistake. We get there and wait is 1-1.5 hrs. We waited and they added us to a text alert and I was advised by this handsome husky man that they would text us and we would have 5 mins to show up. I was sure to ask how long we had since my friend lived less than 1 mile away. We come back after 1 hr and I go check in with the female hostess who claimed "we called you and you said you were here" all i could do was sit there in disturbia lol like no one called me and that's fake news. We get seated anyway immediately after that and are seated for at least 10 mins before we have our server approach us and provide menus. The menus on Yelp are not what they're serving anymore FYI. The menu is far smaller now. Due to my allergy i asked if they had a different menu and the server said they had an all day one and brought it to me literally like 10 mins later. Looking at the "all day" menu there was literally no difference. I got the salmon BLT and asked for no aioli and advised the server that i was allergic to dairy. I get my food and the fries are literally RAW and my bread for my salmon BLT was toasted in BUTTER. I got sick and couldn't finish my food so my friend ate it. I was really bothered by this and highly disappointed. For a 96$ price point on 2 entrees and 4 drinks i expected way better. Even a hole in the wall run down facility listens and cooks better than my experience here. My friend did not finish her potatoes with her Benedict as she said they weren't good. Potatoes seem to be a a big miss here along with communication skills. Would only come back for alcohol and not the food. Sigh. read more

The servings here are huge. 3 people can easily share the chilaquiles. They are very good along with the garlic bread. The staff is very nice, when they are busy they aren't as attentive so order everything you need at once bc they won't come around for a while. AMAZING! First time I came here with my bf and his mom and we went all out getting the steak. Medium rear was perfection. So tender and juicy with every bite - typing this makes me hungry. The waiters here are also very friendly and knowledgeable in terms of providing recommendations to any preferences I had. They didn't just tell you what their preferences were, they asked what were we feeling before they dived into what was popular. But honestly if they told me what people normally order here, they would probably say anything. Literally everything I've tried on the dinner menu has been phenomenal! Also I must say... Nothing beats the bread pudding here. Hands down the best bread pudding I've ever had in my life. I would even take the time to come here and just order the bread pudding. I haven't been here since 2010 since I moved away from the peninsula. However, upon searching for a last minute dinner restaurant with my parents, this place showed up on the list. Having remembered what a good experience I had 13 years ago, I decided to bring my parents here. Since it's been such a long time since my last visit, bringing my parents here felt like a risk because it was like bringing them to a restaurant I've never been before and not having properly vetted it. I was a bit apprehensive that this place did not take reservations, however, I was seated within 5 minutes after putting my name down! It was a Monday night so perhaps it was not as busy as they normally are. Service was prompt and we opened a bottle of Overture red blend my parents had brought. $25 corkage was about on par. The three of us ordered bbq shrimp appetizers and then two new york steak plus alaskan halibut. The steak was fantastic and so was the halibut. The only complaint my mom had was that the rice that came with the halibut was too salty and she couldn't eat it. Pretty happy with the meal and service overall. For many years Town Restaurant in San Carlos on Laurel Street has had a great reputation, but businesses have a lifespan that can degrade and collapse. On 7/20/24 I took my spouse for a nice dinner and ordered their most expensive ($72) Wagu Ribeye. It was the worst steak I have ever half eaten. It tasted like it had sat in a fridge until it spoiled, but they made the decision to spice it and serve it anyway. It should have never gotten to a plate. The cost of this 10 oz just made it more painful. My wife's Steak Diane was fair. Iceburg Salad nice. Garlic bread was good, Chocolate cake and bread pudding were great, but the basics were horrible, and like many people - I did not complain or upset my spouse. I have two gift certificates to Town and now I will have to scramble to use them for lunch and order the chicken or meatloaf, before the inevitable happens in a year or two. When a place is as tasty as Town, drops in quality it is a shame when you suffer the tail end. read more

Balsamic Farm Eggs "Cinema Style" - My partner and I split this and really enjoyed this! This is my second time ordering this, and I love the combo of simple flavors. The sourdough with the fried eggs with indulgent yolky centers, the saltiness of the parm and the bitterness of the arugula was super good. And the house potatoes were delicious! Crispy on the outside and soft & warm on the inside. Highly recommend for vegetarians out there! Philly cheesesteak spring rolls - my in-laws really liked this! Came with a horseradish sauce that they said was good. Brown sugar bacon - MUST-GET! They loved it! Bloody Mary - my partner and dad in-law liked it! Gets spicier the more your drink it though so be prepared if you're not used to spice. Bread pudding - we didn't get it this time but I've had this before. So GOOD! MUST GET!!! If you don't want to read everything, here's a short synopsis: great service and good food. I've only come here for dinner, and here are a few of my favorites: 1. The Philly Cheesesteak Springs were an interesting twist. I was a fan of the horseradish cream sauce, too. Yum. 2. While I was low-carbing it at one point, we started with the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. I'm not a huge veggie person, but both appetizers were delicious and filling. 3. If you're getting sides for your steak, opt for the creamed spinach, the Parmesan potato gratin, or the Mac and cheese. My husband and I have tried each of these sides at various times, and we liked them all. My personal fave is the Mac n cheese. 4. For dinner, I've rotated between the chicken and ribs and the chicken enchiladas. The Cole slaw that comes with the enchiladas is actually good. So this review is good and bad. I love town and their seasonal menus, the food is always amazing! Which is why I always come back. BUT. My bad review hits "oh no" for me. I am sober, 7 years. Yes, people say don't order mocktails if you don't want to drink. But I was a server once, I know how what they press to re order a drink. Boy, was I wrong. I dared to re order a non alcoholic drink, and to my surprise alcohol was in it! My friends, who always try EVERY DRINK I order didn't taste anything. But my friends mom who works in the industry tried it, and confirmed it for me. When we told the waitress she blamed it on me for not confirming with her that it's non alcoholic (even though I ordered it once before and it was perfect). But also, blamed it on the cup!!! "The bartender shouldn't have used that cup." I'm sorry it's not my fault or the bartenders fault, you didn't check the previous order, and used the kiosk to re order the drink I already had.. if I have a problem ESPECIALLY THIS, an I'm sorry would have been perfect for me to forgive. I never hear an I'm sorry and I walked out calmly in disbelief and shock. She blamed the cup?!? I was done, (I was crying! I felt so weird!! Feeling the alcohol warmth again for the first time in 7 years?!?!) So ya I learned. Not to order mock tails for a while. I've been back once. Everything about Town was five stars, except the temperature. It was raining and extremely chilly outside, you'd think they'd adjust the temperature indoors accordingly. In fact, I was tempted to move outdoors because the heat lamps were going and felt amazing on my way in. But I'm traveling solo for business and when I dine alone I like sitting bartop. Anyway, I will absolutely be back every week I'm up north. I highly recommend the happy hour menu and their tasting size soup was perfection if you just want to try their soup of the day. This place went to S***. Haven't been here in ages. This restaurant was the spot back in the day. I don't know what happened to it. It had kids everywhere, I didn't know where the hell to sit, including the bar!!! Wtf.... We ended up leaving the first booth we were sitting in because the server sucked. Her attitude just really needed to go. Also, I didn't like our booth as it was extra large. I'm very particular in where I sit. My seating matters just as much as my food. Anyways, we requested another booth in the corner. We got our tables, and a few minutes later, there was a crying child across the way at another booth. I mean, this kid would not shut up. It literally ruined my mood. After thirty minutes of this screaming child (over three years of age, by the way), I got up to ask her to displine her child or take it outside for a second bc I had had it. Lucky for me, they finally got up and left. THANK GOD! Anyway, the server was okay, but the food was terrible, including their drinks. We ordered their bottomless mimosa, and I got to tell you it was the worst I've ever had. I asked about it, and I was told it's premixed, so I can't even opt out of the juice if I wanted to. I have never in my entire life heard anybody pre-mixing a mimosa. That let me know that's how they get rid of their used champagne. SMH, anyways I ended up ordering a whole bottle of champagne for the table. For the brunch entrees, we ordered fried chicken and waffles and the lobster egg Benedict. Neither one was to our liking, especially the Lobster egg Benedict, as it came out cold. We were starving and wanted to get out of there as soon as possible because more children started coming in. I'm talking about toddlers. Quite frankly, this will be my last time EVER coming to this establishment. This place literally is no different than Chuck E cheese!
