Parked on next cross street and walked there. Lunch special (power lunch) for $22 is priced good. One appetizer and one main. I ordered hot chicken sliders as starters and shaking beef as main. Sliders is alright but the shaking beef a bit too salty for my taste. Beef dish already has rice and lots of veggie but still too salty after i mixed them well. Tasted as good as it looked. Salmon with Brown rice- nice thick cut of salmon. The salmon was also fresh and cooked to perfection. Not raw and not over cooked. As the mother of a child with Celiac Disease, I have to research each and every restaurant we venture to eat at to ensure it can be a safe experience for my child. I rely heavily on people's reviews, because if you have Celiac and you get glutened, you know how sick it can make you so you definitely do other Celiacs a solid and spread the word if a restaurant is not safe. And it is for this purpose I have to write this review. Not to slam the restaurant, which is a beautiful ambience with nice staff. But I do have to let other Celiacs know that after telling the waitress my daughter has a wheat "allergy" (easier to say it's allergy than to explain how Celiac's actually works) they served her gluten not once but twice. The first time it was in a seaweed salad that accompanied her sushi roll, after which the manager came over and let us know the mistake after my daughter already ate it. The second was a wafer in my daughter's vanilla ice cream which was clearly visible so we sent it back. Both dishes had been fully discussed with the waitress upon ordering to ensure it would be safe for my child. And the dessert was ordered after the manager had already apologized for the first mistake. The manager and waitress were very apologetic and graciously comped our ENTIRE meal. Which was unexpected and appreciated. However, unfortunately, no amount of money will ever make it ok to poison my child with a food that will harm her. Not once, but twice. When I asked how the mistakes had happened, she said they had some new chefs and obviously they needed to do some training. They said they do care about safety and handled it the best way they could have. But it still caused harm to my child. We tipped the waitress over 20% of what the bill would have been for her work, as I am sure she put the orders in correctly, and the food runners were the ones to bring us our food -not her- so she couldn't have intercepted the mistake. But her and the manager's response and taking full responsibility (which was appreciated) doesn't help the fact that my child was harmed. It was just really disappointing and upsetting. The other part of this is a review of the food. Taking our bad experience out to just judge the food, I was actually surprised. This wasn't my first time there and I remembered it to be delicious. However, every dish I got was only mediocre. I didn't expect this! The sauteed spinach was eh, same with the mashed potatoes. The mac n cheese was heavy on the bechamel sauce and lacked the cheesey flavor and cheddar bite. Very bland. Unremarkable ceasar salad and the croutons were also not good! Usually that's my favorite part of a Ceasar! My daughter's sushi roll was good but not anything remarkable, either. Cheesecake was fine tasting but I'd have preferred a regular 'ol graham cracker crust rather than a deconstucted cheesecake filling in a mason jar with cinnamon toast crunch and stawberries on top. Cool idea, but the classic would have actually tasted better imo. Bread pudding was the best thing I tried there. Definitely delicious. NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE INTO FIVE STAR SERVICE This was my first time eating in person at Town. We did take-out a few times over the pandemic and the food was always good. My parents drove from Santa Rosa just so we could eat at Town for Fathers Day. They're always busy, but they were clearly swamped today. We were told an hour and fifteen minutes wait for a table, and we sitting down about forty-five minutes later. A good sign, but that was only the beginning of our waiting. The server (Ashley), was attentive and solid. She promptly got our drink and food orders. I believe it took about 45 minutes for the food to come out, and most of it was tepid. I saw a three star review from someone that had a similar experience today. The food was tasty, but much colder than I've had even when taken out. My dad was quite disappointed and plainly remarked that he would never come back. So, why the five star review? Because Town blew us away. We're not the type of people that ask for discounts or free meals, but we did politely ask that my mothers meal be reheated. We were honest about the temperature of the food but never asked for anything. We thought they might comp something, but they VERY MUCH exceeded our expectations. Without going into specifics, they completely turned our experience around. My dad was so shocked with the bill that he exclaimed he would eagerly return! I think this shows how much pride Town takes in their service and the experience of their customers. If you communicate an issue in good faith, they're not going to blow you off. That's the sign of a great restaurant. Yeah, my meal was a little cold, but it still tasted good, and I left very happy and eager to return again. I've come here a couple of times for lunch and dinner. The ambiance is nice, feels super social and on the higher end. There's seating indoor and outdoors (with heaters!). The few times I went I never had to wait for a party of 8+, granted it was on weekdays. The street is blocked off so there's no direct parking, but there are a lot of lots/street parking all around the area. My group and I loved to do family style since the portions are so generous, so I've definitely tried a good selection of food here. Sushi rolls: 9/10 they're all great and the fish is good quality. Sometimes could feel like there's too much going on, but still really good as a shared plate. New Orleans BBQ shrimp: 7/10 pretty good appetizer but not the best one there. The shrimp was overbooked, and the part of the bread that was in the sauce got really soggy. The flavors were really unique but probably won't get again. Garlic bread: 8/10 really solid! Garlic to bread ratio was great, definitely recommend. Miso Glazed Sea Bass: 9/10 so good and the fish is perfectly cooked. I loved the broth they gave in the side to serve, and it paired so well with the rice/vegetables. Only thing was the broth wasn't hot so it cooled the whole dish down. Teriyaki Skirt Steak: 9/10 it was so delish! Cooked to perfection and the flavors were great. Just wish there was less crispy onions on top. Meatloaf: 6/10, wasn't bad but also not the best dish of the night. There was flavor but overall just okay. 6 layer chocolate cake: 10/10 SO GOOD. Still thinking about this and the slice was big enough to share with 4 people. There's still so much to try so I'll definitely be back! The dish sounded better than it actually taste. Left me wondering if a great, creative chef created their menu but isn't in the kitchen to make sure it's properly executed. The ice cream was tasty but had icicles in it, as if it had defrosted and been refrozen. The caramelized banana was tasty and not as sweet as I expected; went well with the ice cream. The "banana pound cake" was really bad. I knew something was wrong when the fork wouldn't cut through it. I took one bite and spit it out because it didn't seem fresh; texture resembled something with freezer burn. Our server took the price of this dessert off our bill. Total tab surprised me. Receipt shows $1.75 per person added for "employer mandate." Decaf coffee was $5 and chocolate cake (which husband loved) was $13.95. Restaurant was very noisy inside. Was not a relaxing meal. Weird experience entering from rear parking lot between large garbage dumpsters. Had to ask someone how to find the restaurant; restaurant sign is dark and hard to notice. I was trying to find a nice place to surprise my boyfriend for a birthday dinner. This place won me over with the customized birthday menus and I knew it would be extra special. It was simple to add in the request for a personalized birthday menu and I even called the restaurant to confirm that they received my request. The hostess on the call was very nice and let me know that everything would be set. On the big day, I was super excited for the food and surprise. Once I stepped into the front of the restaurant, I was met with the most delicious smells. The hostess was so sweet and welcoming, she even wished my boyfriend a happy birthday. I loved that the sides were marinated in salt, pepper, and spices since it gave it a nice addition to flavor. My boyfriend chose the chicken with mashed potatoes and roasted tomatoes. The chicken was superb, the meat fell off the bone since it was so tender and the flavor was perfect. I think the mashed potatoes really shined in these dishes, I kept wanting more and savoring each bite. I would have not minded eating a big bowl of mashed potatoes. For most of the meal, my boyfriend and I nodded in agreement and took turns voicing our happiness. You know it's a good meal when no words are needed, but a simple smile says it all. At the end of dinner, our waiter brought out a slice of banana bread pudding with a candle. It was really the icing on the cake for a wonderful night. The game was a bit of a back and forth, with patrons enthusiastic, but not overly so, allowing us to enjoy our meal, some conversation, and the game highlights out of the corner of our eye. The booths were very comfortable and firm enough to keep your dinner posture good, and not tiring. The booth appointments were a classic tone and style. Loved 'em. Our waiter, Nick, is a star! He was right on top of the "Bottomless Mimosa", and anticipated every Bloody Mary we needed! All with a smile, and a couple of tips on what's popular, and delicious! We started with the Philly Cheesesteak Rolls, an inspired rendition of the flavors of Philly, and the crispy egg roll wraps from San Francisco. Yum! We had the Chicken and Waffles, a favorite we're told, and we could see why. Crispy Chicken, and a waffle with crunch on the outside and a pillowy middle. The only thing that would have made it perfect would be spicy Honey or Spicy Maple Syrup. Another hit was the Shaken Beef. A twist on the classic Vietnamese beef dish, with big juicy chunks of meat, and salad elements that, along with a bed of rice, make this one dish a meal-in-one. An at-the-desk classic perfect for take out, or take home. I want to revisit the drinks a minute. The Mimosas were not overly sweet. That's a sign of quality sparkling wine (even if it's not haute), and fresh OJ that makes the bottomless option a no-brainer. The star cocktail at our table was the Bloody Mary. It's a hand crafted version of what is too often made without panache. It was just the right level of spicy; not boring , not biting. The Grand Finale was a Bread Budding perfect for the three of us, sublime for two, and challenging for one.
