I've been coming to Town San Carlos for years and this most recent visit was for dinner on a Tuesday night. Street parking in the area can be hit or miss and I usually have no issues parking in the free parking garage a couple blocks away closer to San Carlos Avenue. For appetizers, we had the Chilean sea bass tostadas, vegetable roll, and Philly cheesesteak spring rolls. The house slaw and chipotle aioli worked really well with the battered sea bass and chip on the bottom; the balances of textures was on point and the chipotle aioli was not really spicy at all which is fine since I usually don't eat too much spicy food. I usually don't like sushi from American restaurants but this appetizer was okay; it did not taste authentic and I would not order it myself in the future. The spring rolls were my favorite because I enjoyed the crunchy outside paired with the spiced steak inside. For this dish, I did not try the included house spicy ketchup but enjoyed the horseradish cream sauce even though I normally do not like horseradish. I ordered their Song Dynasty with kiwi, lemongrass, lemon juice, orange flower water, and elderflower tonic; I saw the lemongrass noted in the menu description and went with that to try it; the drink overall was a bit tart and I probably would not get it again. My first individual course was my salad and I chose the classic Caesar. Keep in mind that these salad portions are not your normal salad portions you eat before your main course; these portions are humongous and could serve as a meal on their own. The lettuce was dressed really well with the creamy-garlic Caesar dressing and I liked how there was a heavy amount of herbed sourdough croutons spread throughout the plate. For my main course I got a surf and turf with filet mignon and sauteed lemon-garlic shrimp. At first I thought they forgot my shrimp since my plate only had the filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli but the shrimp came a couple minutes later in its own mini bowl. I think it would've been nice if the shrimp was already on the plate in terms of presentation. I asked for my filet mignon to be cooked medium rare and I think they did a good job doing so. The shrimp was good but I didn't really think of anything that made it stand out on its own. For dessert, I had their famous warm bread pudding and it was so good I finished it quickly. Overall, the service was great and each dish was prepared well. I definitely left full and overall enjoyed my dining experience. If you are in or near San Carlos and are craving elevated American food with Asian and Mexican influence without being considered as fusion cuisine in a setting with a neutral ambiance without anything gimmicky, I highly recommend Town, though the experience might be best for a special occasion dinner rather than a random weeknight dinner. read more

Came here for a private event and... WOW. The private dining room is tucked away upstairs, cozy and inviting--like stepping into someone's beautifully designed home. The vibe? Impeccable. Came for a weekday dinner and the restaurant was still packed! A nice spot for an occasion, date, or even a casual dinner. There's additional seating in the parklet outside the restaurant. They don't take reservations so it's best to go early to avoid waiting during the dinner rush. Items Ordered: - Miso Roasted Cauliflower: Comes with avocado yogurt and pecan oat crunch. The cauliflower was on the sweeter side with the miso flavor, and the avocado yogurt provided a nice contrast to this sweetness. I liked the extra crunch from the pecan oats. - BLT Iceberg Wedge: Our server offered to cut up the iceberg wedge since we were sharing the dish. We stopped by Town on a Friday at 6:30, put our names in fully expecting to wait over an hour for a table, the hostess said it would be a 40 minute wait. Went over to have a glass of wine next door at The Cask Wine Bar. An hour later we went over to check in with the hostess, she said it would be another 20 minutes, no problem we were willing to wait. 30 minutes later we got a table on the outside of the parklet. There was a gas leak on the heaters the whole area smelled like propane. Kids were screaming and playing football right next to us. I fully understand sitting inside the parklet and having an enjoyable dinner but being sat on the outside of the parklet area after waiting for 1.5 hours is ridiculous, these seats are an absolute cash grab. We love town but this experience was so off putting, we ended up heading over to Stamp Bar and Grill for dinner. The hostess mentioned tables were not turning over fast enough and there was nothing they could do. This is absolutely in their power, Town should consider a table time limit and reservations or at least have their manager check in with tables to turn them over. This was a very frustrating night, we love having dinner at Town but will not be back there as there are many comparable or better restaurants in the nearby areas such as Pazo. read more

We had a great lunch at Town with my family. The food was good, the experience was enjoyable, and our lunch bill was over $400. I also left an 18% tip because I believed the service deserved it. After lunch, we decided to order dessert. The dessert came to $14.62, and I paid with a $20 bill. The server returned only $5 in change. My correct change should have been $5.38. What bothered me wasn't the 38 cents--it was the fact that she knowingly kept it without saying a word. When I asked about the missing change, she admitted she knew it wasn't correct but didn't mention it because she didn't have coins. She then said that "if I wanted," she could go upstairs to get the change. She also told me, "We usually round up." I responded that if the restaurant "usually rounds up," then I should have received $6, not $5. Her answer was simply, "No, $5." A restaurant doesn't get to decide to keep part of a customer's change without asking first. That's not "rounding up"--it's short-changing a customer. Whether it's 38 cents or $38, the amount isn't the point. The point is honesty, integrity, and respect. If you don't have the correct change, you communicate that to the customer and let them decide, not make the decision for them. It's disappointing that after spending over $400, leaving an 18% tip, and choosing to order more food, our visit ended with an interaction that showed such poor judgment and lack of professionalism. I've been wanting to try out TOWN forever and when I finally did, it lived up to the hype and more. I came on a Friday night by myself and sat at the bar. The restaurant is lively and moody, perfect for a date night or special occasion dinner. The bartenders and wait staff were attentive and friendly, despite being how busy it was. I ordered the pomegranate martini ($13) and espresso martini ($15) and both were excellent. Then for my meal, I got the classic Caesar salad ($13) and the bone-in ribeye (24 oz - $74 including 2 sides) with the garlic green beans and creamy garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious and the ribeye was so tender and juicy, practically melts in your mouth. For such a nice restaurant, the prices were surprisingly really reasonable considering how HUGE all of the portion sizes are. We arrived 6:05pm on a Friday and were told it's a 25 minute wait, so we got a pomegranate martini and watermelon mule from the bar. My martini was too sweet and not very potent. I've become a regular at TOWN. If you frequent downtown San Carlos, whether you're here on a sleepy Monday night or a bustling Friday, TOWN will be significantly more crowded than most of the other restaurants. I'd go so far as to say some look barren. It's unfortunate, there are great dining spots here, but TOWN is stiff competition. I usually get the roasted salmon (without the creamy tzatziki sauce) and it's amazing every time. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, great seasonally shuffling accoutrement. I also like the skirt steak and Caesar salad, though the latter isn't really intended as a meal the same way. I don't drink but their mocktails are great. Their desserts are good but if I had one constructive note, the ice cream sundae COULD be great but it's too sweet. The vanilla ice cream is sweet, the chocolate syrup is sweet, and the toppings are sweet. It needs something salty, maybe some kind of nuts or maybe a salted caramel instead of the chocolate, to balance it all out. Anyways, I love this spot for the ambience. I come with my dog and they have a huge patio with great heating and I drop a blanket for her and she can people watch for 30 minutes while I enjoy a night out. The manager Edgar and the hosts and servers are all prompt, professional, and kind. There's a reason they're always crowded when most spots aren't, they definitely earned it. My only real complaint is that I can't walk in downtown San Carlos anymore. My dog drags me to TOWN and doesn't want to leave until we're seated. Town is very highly rated on yelp and i can see why - good food and the ambiance is also very nice. I felt the service was good as well, but they forgot to give my husband a fork even though we asked multiple times. The hubby had to get up and go to the bar to finally get it which was a little annoying and the reason I knocked off a star. However, from a food perspective we had a great time. Usually I am giving this restaurant a great review, but I have been beee the last 2 times and it has not been very good food. My friend and I shared the 70 dollar ribeye and it wasn't very good. Not a great flavor and the texture was not good. I had four bites and she took the rest of the ribeye home to her husband. We also had the Brussels sprouts. I thought they would be crispy, and instead they were such soiled with a sweet sauce and had 2 of them. Terrible. My friend ordered the black rice.. absolutely tasteless. Town used to be my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, the food has not been that great the last two times I've been there. I ordered the meatloaf recently, and it was dry. The clam chowder barely had clams. Their bread pudding dessert is fantastic when it comes out fresh. Sometimes, it's hot and soft, but other times, it comes out dry and crumbly. The consistent dishes that I recommend are the creamy garlic bread and the teriyaki skirt steak. The garlic bread is the best garlic bread I've ever had. The garlic bread is creamy like it has cream cheese. It's so addicting! The teriyaki skirt steak is super flavorful, and the meat is tender. Definitely a classic restaurant to dine at on the peninsula. I've been coming to Town for years now and the food is consistent good. I am very happy that this place survived the pandemic because it's the crowning jewel of the restaurant scene in downtown San Carlos. I highly recommend to make a reservation because this restaurant will be busy all day. I arrived a little early for my reservation so I was seated in their outdoor patio along the street. The booths outside were comfortable and well constructed and a nice option to have if you want to eat outside. The menu is extremely large and a bit overwhelming at first. The food on the menu is more on the traditional American side with a few twists. You can get a steak, a burger, or a salad here and they're all delicious. I've usually ordered a steak when I've dined here, but I wanted to change things up so I ordered the French dip sandwich this time. The au jus dipping sauce was not too salty, but I wish I was given more to dip my sandwich in. The beef was very tender and well seasoned. It was an good sandwich overall. The service was a little slow when I went but it could have been because I was sitting outdoors and the restaurant was at full capacity. The blood orange margarita was so delicious and refreshing. Not strong at all. The best part was the desserts, we got a few different ones so we could all try them. While typically the entree traditionally had 7-8 pieces of beef, today there were only 3 measly pieces. Came back for a work lunch and grabbed a table on their outdoor patio. Looking at the menu, the power lunch for $24 gives you a choice of a starter and entree from a select menu. I went with the wedge salad and half salmon BLT with a side of fries. From a value perspective the wedge salad is way more food than if you got the ahi roll which comes with 4 pieces. The salad was absolutely delicious with the dressing, blue cheese crumbles and bacon.
