I hung up the phone and started watching a movie that I drifted off into, after sometime passed and my stomach started to rumble I looked down at my phone and realized, One hour has past! We placed an order (our first) on this past Sunday 7/19 in the early morning for 2 breakfast sandwiches and a hero. Ww waited 30 minutes, ok we get ut you guys were preparing catering jobs etc. Food was good. However, your rude blonde girl who was passing out the orders never made eye contact, never picked up her head, nor did she bother to put in napkins, condiments etc. You may want to speak to her. Small spot with limited seating, but very worth the wait if there is one. Everything on the menu looks amazing. I had the panini #4, breaded chicken, fresh mozzarella with vodka sauce and it was completely outstanding. The service was ok, but we got our food quickly. I wrote a previous 5-star review praising the paninis and prices but, the more I go there, the more the poor service is bothering me. It's becoming more and more of a problem to wait for excessive amounts for a sandwich or two, and the constant forgetting of things is almost a joke. I've been ordering from town deli for years now but never actually sat in and dined until last night. It was crowded but we were seated right away. We were brought out a basket of focaccia pizza bread which was a yummy treat we then ordered the appetizer sampler 5 wings, 5 chicken tenders, and 3 mozzarella sticks it came with honey mustard, blue cheese, and marinara dipping sauces. We enjoyed them as they were served to us hot. My husband ordered his usual chicken vodka panini with fresh mozz and extra vodka sauce on the side his all time fav. My daughter ordered the hamburger kids meal with fries it was 2 sliders which was perfect for her. Finally we did the meat lovers pie which consisted of pepperoni, ham, bacon, meatball, and sausage. Holy meat nothing was missing and for the price of $21 it could not be beat. The service was great and our waiter was sweet. Still crowed when we left after 8. We are big town deli fans and will be back to dine again soon. read more

A solid place for take out or sit down! I can't speak towards delivery because I don't live close enough to get delivery. My grandma loves this place so whenever we go run errands she takes me here for lunch/dinner. The paninis are always really awesome! And they are HUGE!! I tried the #12 panini today it was grilled chicken, fresh mozz, and broccoli rabe, and I loved it! My grandma loved it too and she is very picky about food other than her own. It was a little too cold in there to be comfortable, but other than that it was a great experience. Also, they really need to put a railing outside when walking in!! It's an incredibly large step and it can be dangerous for anyone not even just older people I've almost fallen before. Overall, a solid spot with a huge menu and good food! read more

They make it exactly as ordered but i recommend calling in the order over online ordering because the order doesn't always go through as written. Just had a great take out lunch from Towne Deli. My first time eating their food. It seems like a great local place for good food and lots of variety. We had salads which were yummy, plus some of the Italian dinners. They were great as well. The pizzas looked delicious, although we didn't have any. This place rarely gets delivery orders correct so check your order before you pay. The food quality is not as good as other places on the Island. My most recent order, was so under cooked, it was raw. Previous orders had stale poor quality bagels, dried out, cold bacon, and cheap generic brand, tasteless cold cuts. Since there's very few delivery restaurants in the Tottenville area, we've had to order from them. Think we may need to look elsewhere. Mostly, people leave bad reviews on Yelp. Not this time! I eat in the Towne Deli a few times a week. The place is packed all the time. When I look on Yelp and see 73 reviews I figure that may be from dinner on one day!! LOL. I've been coming here since 1979 (maybe '80). Yeah, Im that old. Anyway, the food is great. The pork ossobuco on the weekend my favorite. Usually my wife and I come for dinner and eat off the daily special menu. The fried eggplant hero... love it. I've attached a couple of pictures of the eggplant. One is in Sequoia National Park in Cali and the other is in Italy. That's right! I took the Towne Deli's fried eggplant to Italy. It's that 'effing good. I see a lot of complaints on here about delivery. I couldn't talk about the delivery since we usually go there and eat. Now that there's parking on the side it's way easier. The staff is friendly, the food is good and the price is right. What more can you ask for? Plus, The Mess sandwich is just as good today as it was in 1979! (Edit: We also took the Italian Combo hero on the flight to Italy. You can't beat the service and quality of this place. Clean and well maintained. The $6.99 (takeout only) large pie special defies the time and space we live in. (More like a time warp to the eighties!) Shit, that hot tub time machine really exists. I have come here for years. You can slide a $10 bill on the counter, walk out with a pie and an Arizona beverage, and still get change. WOW! The pizza is pretty decent. I used to love this place for the mess and other foods. But today I order an eggplant parm it comes with almost no sauce. I also order two pieces of cheesecake which I got frozen. When I called I was told well just throw it in the microwave. For that I could have gone to a supermarket and bought a frozen cheesecake for the same price as one slice. There's not too many places around Tottenville that have the variety that Towne Deli has. Pretty good food, stays open late enough for the working person to grab something to eat for a late night at work. Only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because they're steak has no flavor whatsoever. Tastes as if they just threw it on the grill without any seasoning. But other than that, the food is above average and the menu has a little bit of something for everyone! Updated Review: I took it down from 4 starts to 3 stars due to the fact of the time it takes for them to make your food. If I place an order so I can pick it up, I expect it to be ready when I get there, isn't that the whole point of ordering in advance? Just to give you an idea, I order cold cuts in advance so I don't have to waste my time waiting. I go in 20 minutes to pick it up and when I arrive, they just start to cut it for me. Towne Deli is a great little place. a "half" size panini here runs you about 6 bucks and could probably end world hunger based on its sheer size. the Angry Rosie is flippin' jawesome - chicken cutlet with melted fresh mozzarella and buffalo sauce - and just what you need on a cheat day from counting precious calories. my cousin and I also split a huge mountain of delicious crispy garlic parmesan fries, because that's what we do. the prices are low, the portions are great, and it's delicious. read more

The food was good, but the service wasn't. I ordered a veggie panini, requesting that they leave off the mozzarella. The server asked me if I was vegan; I responded yes. We then had a pleasant conversation about veganism and how the restaurant would like to incorporate vegan options. Cool, I thought. I felt that it took an inordinately long time for our 3 panini to come out, considering that there were only two other tables with diners. When they did come out, lo and behold, there was mozzarella on mine! You'd think the server would have remembered our conversation. She apologized, claiming that she'd written it on the order and that the kitchen got it wrong. She said the cook would make me a new one right away. When my replacement came out, it had bits of cheese on it. I'm not sure if they just scraped the cheese off the original, or if some cheese from other items dripped onto it. As I'm not allergic or lactose intolerant, I just ate it. Waiting for yet another panini would have been too much to take. One of the people I was with asked at least four times for coffee. By the time it came out, we'd finished eating, and she ended up leaving most of the coffee. Our server was the only one working. Maybe they need to add another person. A note about the music: I don't know what their regular list is, but all they played while I was there was 50s and 60s doo-wop. They seem to be cultivating an old-time atmosphere, which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but I do not. How about a mix of old and new so as not not alienate younger people. I used to LOVE this place until my last few experiences, which prompted me to write this review. If you eat in, the service is pretty fast, food is hot, everything's great. If you order delivery, beware - it will take an hour or more. That's always been the case, but since the food was so good, I never really minded. HOWEVER, the last 3 times I ordered delivery, I ordered the SAME hero with the SAME specifications, & it arrived wrong every single time. Regardless, I let it go. I'm not going to call & complain & make the poor delivery person waste gas to bring us a new hero. The mistake wasn't a travesty, so we ate it anyway. After the first 2 times being wrong, I was absolutely certain the third time would be fine (because why would the same mistake be made that many times?). Boy, was I wrong. Being a waitress myself, I NEVER complain or send anything back, but this really bugged me. I understand mistakes happen with food orders - of course they do! We're all human. But the same exact mistake 3x in a row is not okay, & it will definitely prevent me from ordering here again. read more
