It was a chilly, rainy day in Crescent City and I needed soup. Thankfully my family had planned to introduce us to Toyama Sushi, and Toyama has soup, as well as a variety of other delights, including sushi (obviously), noodle and rice dishes, pho, and entrees. Upon entering we were greeted warmly, seated promptly, and presented with bowls of miso soup. The broth is killer - hands down the most flavorful I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Our server was very pleasant, ensuring we had everything we needed and our water glasses were full. We tried: avocado roll, AAC roll, tofu yakisoba, tofu Singapore noodles, tofu fried rice, and vegetable pho. Of note - I'm 98% certain the broth in the vegetable pho is the miso soup both, which is NOT a problem because it's delicious, however it may come as a surprise for someone expecting traditional vegetable pho broth. I didn't try the meat-based pho broth so I can't speak to that. Everything was was glorious - wonderful flavors, textures, and temperature, and although my pho was a surprise, it was delicious and definitely met my criteria for soup on a chilly day. read more

I loved this place, loved their sushi and teriyaki bowl. I haven't been there in a few years so my hope is that they have addressed their bug issue. I got my dish and when I picked it up a large roach fell off the bottom of the dish onto the floor and my husband quickly stopped it. I notifed the waitstaff and was offered to replace the dish. Customer service was good, food was brought out fast and was hot and ready to eat, and the ingredients seemed so fresh and made with love. This is like the only sushi spot in Crescent City and we came after a long day at the Trees of Mystery and were super satisfied. I really really love that I could get two of my favorites in the same place. Sushi and pho. And both were really good honestly. it wasn't too busy, there was a calm, dark ambiance and everyone was super friendly. We ordered a ton of food and it ended up being expensive but we ate it and had leftovers. When you can stretch the ROI of a meal it is such a big deal. Very solid four stars in this small but very busy intimate and only Japanese Sushi restaurant here at Crescent City! It's located in Jedidiah Smith Shopping mall sandwiched between the large Safeway and only theater in the quaint city. The place is definitely divey but the rolls are among my favorites equaling some of the more expensive restaurants down in Southern California. Due to the easy access to fresh fish caught locally, the Sushi and Sashimi are fresh and delicious. The additional Phò soup was excellent and genuinely brought back my memories of old Vietnamese restaurants in Little Saigon off Brookhurst in Westminster! There was only one table sat in the restaurant, but they made me wait 15 mins for the one guy to make three other sushi rolls before making mine, even though my other food was ready and it was past the estimated pickup time. The fried rice was gross and was overly seasoned (salty and peppery), the edamame was soaked with salty water, and the sushi.... Not good. The rice smelled like white vinegar and the rolls were poorly made. The tuna was fresh but overall this was not a good experience.
