Always always going to taste very good here. Tucked deep into inner Sunset district, just a few blocks from the water, is a great homey restaurant for Korean food. Awesome ambiance. Our go tos are usually whole fried chicken, jap chae, Kim chee fried rice. This time we got the Korean stew which is a huge pot of meat and veggies that comes out on a propane stove! Easily shareable with 3 people. One of my favorites in the city
Fun spot for late night korean food -- love that they're open til 2am some days. I will say the food was not the best korean food I've ever had, but the vibe was fun and it satisfied the cravings I had! The rose tteokbokki was a lot cheesier than expected-- I wish it was less cheese and more sauce. The flavor was delicious overall but the texture was off because there was so much cheese and it got very clumpy. The spam stew was pretty salty after a few bites -- definitely needed rice to help soak up the salt. I liked all the different components in the stew-- the noodles, meat, spam, sausage, kimchi, tofu, and more! It definitely serves 4-5 people if you're ordering other dishes. Very good value for the price. The seafood pancake was quite oily and not super flavorful until I added sauce. The portion is quite big though, and they do include a good amount of seafood inside! Ambiance inside is cozy but I felt very cold the whole time even though we had stew boiling. It seems like a fun place to go get late night food after drinking! Service was kind and efficient, but pretty minimal (have to flag down people for anything you need).
the portion are really good if you are feeding 3 people, especially their stews IT HAS A LOT OF TOPPINGS ON THERE, they are not skimpy on the meat either. i really love the seafood pancake so addicting!!!! i still had stew leftovers and it still hit!!!
this restaurant is amazing for groups!!! my party of 5 waited maybe ~13 minutes on a Wednesday night to be seated. The space we were in felt a bit cramped, but nothing detrimental to our experience. Our appetizer came out quick along with the rest of the food and it was so so good. The beef stew felt like a giant portion, we couldn't even finish it. I'll say it was hard to catch many noodles, and that we got most of our carbs from the rice we ordered on the side. Overall a really delicious and charming experience, would definitely come back with a full stack
I was hanging in Outer Sunset ( SF), and decided that I was craving tteokbokki. Toyose was close by, and I hadn't been there. Parking was fairly easy, considering it's SF. I was seated fairly quickly, and was also able to order just as fast. The restaurant is in a converted two house, with the restaurant being at the bottom. The concept is rather cool, but the ceilings are fairly low and seating is tight. I ordered the rosé Tteobokki. This definitely did not meet the taste that I wanted. The dish was very sweet, and the actual rice columns were oddly shaped/thin, as opposed to the traditional ones. I will say that it was cheesy, ( which I ordered), but it clashed with the sweetness/overall taste of the dish. Service was very minimal. Meh. I'm glad I tried a new place, but it's not on my must go again list.
Opens 6pm and it gets busy fast with a crowd waiting at the door. It gets crowded inside at the door area because it's not that much space to stand around. Inside is bigger than you'd think. A converted residential garage into a commercial restaurant space. You kinda forget you're in a garage! Food is good: Steamed egg - but was too salty Meats Army stew! Kimchi seafood pancake is done very well here, crispy Street Parking thankfully isn't so hard here
Came here at opening time on a Sunday with one other person. It's very dimly lit inside and very family style as large parties come to eat and have some drinks together. We ordered the spam stew after craving it for so long, corn cheese, and bulgogi. I thought that the stew would taste fine since it's something casual but it was missing flavor. It may have been the overly fermented kimchi that overwhelmed the flavor of the stew but the more I ate the more I was finding myself forcing myself to eat. The corn cheese was nothing special and the bulgogi was also missing flavor, the texture was not great but did end up finishing it. I can not speak on the other dishes on the menu but I left unsatisfied and don't foresee myself coming back.
Came at around 6:30 pm on Monday on Memorial Day Weekend. The ambiance is nice and dimly lit but it is a bit small and only has one bathroom. They have shades at the table for privacy which was nice! We had to wait about 20 mins for a table which wasn't bad, it is a smaller restaurant so there is less space to wait. We got seated and ordered the stir fry tteokboki with calamari, rose tteokboki, the crispy chicken wings and the pineapple soju and mango soju. The first thing that came out was the fried rice. It was more on the wet side, had ground beef and Kimchi in it with an egg and seaweed on top. If you like wet fried rice then I would recommend, it was kimchi flavored but not too overpowering, I wish the beef were in bigger chunks tho. Overall a solid dish for the table 7.5/10 We received the stir fried calamari and tteokboki next . I really enjoyed the way the squid was cooked, a slight crunch to it but not overcooked. There was also mushroom and bell peppers in it and was one of my favorite dishes that night. I wish the tteeokboki was more stir fried than the squid and had a crispy exterior as that would be a nice textural difference than the squid but it still tasted super good! Def one of my favorite dishes that night! 8.8/10 The crispy chicken wings were good. They were juicy and crispy, the only thing I would ask for is more seasoning. But when I dipped the chicken into the rose tteokboki sauce, it was such a good combo. The cheesy with a bit of spice was so good. And it was still crunchy as well, I def recommend getting them together!! The rose tteokboki was definitely the best thing I had that night. 9/10 Chicken 8/10 Lastly we had the pineapple and mango soju. It came in a pretty big bottle, and was super fruity! Usually I don't like soju but this was actually very nice. I would get it again! Overall fun vibes, cute atmosphere, good food and good alcohol!! Would come back for sure! TLDR; small restaurant but good food! Would get the rose tteokboki and the chicken wings for sure. Flavored soju was good as well!
Arrive about 20 minutes early to be able to get seat when it opens. (About 12-16 tables in the restaurant). Yes, it is a garage. The interior is somewhat dark, but it's homey in there. The menu has a decent selection of item, known for soup, so slightly more soup options. If it gets busy, you may need press the button to call the server over to your table. Unfortunately, I wish Toyose would have Bonchon dishes. Seafood pancake ($19.95) was filled with octopus and veggies. Tasted super fresh, even tastier with spicy soy sauce dip. the Kimchi soup ($19.95) came in a large sizzling pot and had a great sourness to it. Plenty of tofu as well. Spicy fishcake has a soy sauce soup which was light. Not too long of a wait for food, a good cozy spot.
Food: - Items: Chicken Katsu, Tteokbokki - Chicken Katsu was crispy and the salad was nice, but for a late night meal I probably wouldn't get it again, I personally prefer the Japanese style Chicken Katsu with curry // small gripe with this dish is the sauce isn't on the chicken pieces below so I wish it maybe came with some extra sauce? So the customer can dip the chicken in (7/10) - Tteokbokki was great, spicy, filling, the sauce was thicker than what I've had in the past but I'm not sure if that's due to regional differences in the cuisine - still I enjoyed it a lot (9/10) - 8/10 Service: - You write your name, phone number, and the amount of people in your party on a notebook when you walk in - Pretty busy place so about 15-20 minute wait time - Call button so you can get the waiters attention easily - Pretty busy so we didn't get our water for a while but when it was less busy our waiter came by more often and filled up our water - Shoutout to Alan, we enjoyed regaling you with our Yelp lore lol - 8/10 Ambiance: - Love the decor - Great parking for SF - The place is small, but I actually liked that since it adds to the cozy vibes especially on a cold night - The lighting inside was really nice and not too harsh - Great late night spot - 10/10 Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Love love love Toyose. Will always come back for my cravings of Korean food. Toyose never disappoints when it comes to the freshness of their dishes. Everything tasted delicious. The staff is always courteous and friendly. They make time to check on you while dining. The ambiance is cozy like you're at your own home especially in some areas where you get to roll down the privacy screens. Come and try delicious Korean food for yourself so you can be the judge.
Ambience paired with solid food= great place Corn cheese: cheesy goodness with sweet flavor of corn. Kimchi pancake extra crispy: asked for extra crispy as it comes on the softer side, not spicy at all. good crunch, chewy, and packed with flavor Chicken wings: breading is not heavy, just a light batter to them. Spam stew: best way to end the night or a long day. Hot, delectable soup, very comfortable. it comes out steaming It's in an old garage space that adds character to the joint. service is requested with the push of a button. the first queue is at 6:00, and there was already a line by 5:40.
I wouldn't come back as the food is really mid. I guess it's popular because there isn't Korean food nearby in the neighborhood. The seafood pancake is oily and plain. The sauce that came with it is overly salty. The shrimps in the fish intestine soup is previously frozen, smell really funky. And they're tiny. I could've gotten better shrimps at Safeway. Don't come here, go to Daly City or South Bay for better and cheaper Korean food.

I called ahead to see if there were any vegan options and I wanted to order the japchae. My boyfriend and I got there a half hour later and the server, who was the man who picked up the phone, immediately told me "I already told the kitchen to start on your vegan japchae. It was absolutely flavorful. I loved the food so much and my boyfriend loved the whole fried chicken and fish pancake It was so much flavor Boyfriend says the seafood pancake was not salty all delicious different sea creatures and worth it. I love the cute booth, the privacy, the ambience, great K-pop music too. Highly recommend this restaurant for a date night and 5 stars to our server Alex who was personable and kind read more
Decoration of this place is lovely! Almost feels like the inside of a ship, lots of wood and dark tones. And huge win for staying open late! Staff is very polite and I've heard that their drinks are good, but the food doesn't stay behind! I tried their Beef Kimchi Fried Rice, Chicken Gizzard Stir Fry, Calamari Stir Fried and Calamari Soup, they were all tasty. Honest Korean food, good servings for a decent price! And if you are coming for a late night dinner or something, parking is a breeze! I have been here a few times and will be back again! read more
One of my favorite Korean spots to eat in the city! The kimchi seafood pancake, beef kimchi fried rice, and spicy chicken wings are my favorites. The chicken wings are well-seasoned, always crispy, and juicy. The pancake has crispy edges and is thin. Their army stew is also really good and hearty. The food pairs well with their soju cocktails. They can get busy but it's worth the wait. It's a cozy late night spot with delicious Korean food. read more

toyose is always consistent with the wait, food quality, really loud vibes at late hours in the night, and has amazing soju cocktails. i'd say toyose, out of the whole sf, has the best soju cocktails, especially peach house soju cocktail reigns SUPREME !!!! why? the taste of alcohol is so minimal, the actual fruit/based flavor shines at the forefront so it's maddd dangerous to drink their amazing goodness. i highly recommend. i've never seen this place empty, as it's always packed and busy! i was there 15 min after it opened on a friday and there was only two tables left !! WILD !! one thing that is a downside (but ok if you're with friends) is that the wait time for food is a hot minute, at least 20 minutes ++ for the first thing to come out i'd say. (which is why im knocking it down .5) in terms of food, it's very standard for korean food but for the price, quality, and quantity, i always get/recommend their spam stew/budae jjigae! it's savory, ingredients heavy, salty, NOM! i do wish they did revamp their menu at least once in a while, instead keeping the same menu for as long as they have been tbh, i'm looking to try something new ! more than anything, coming to toyose is really for the alc and late night vibes. and because of the alc, patrons do get SOOO loud but that's beyond the staffs control and more respect + power to them. will always return for their soju cocktails heheheh. read more
I used to go to after school program literally right next door and I am surprised I never tried this spot before! Literally 17 years of "waiting" and I'm glad I was finally able to try it!! I came for dinner to celebrate my sisters birthday and it was so yummy! The restaurant is a little small but it was perfect for our party of four! We tried the rose tteokbokki, spicy pork, seafood pancake, and army stew. I loooovee the rose tteokbokki, the flavor profile was yummy! I wish the seafood pancake was crispier tho. My only complaint is that they used the same hot dogs for multiple dishes, and I wish they used lil smokies instead. Service was very good, they have a great sense of humor! Will definitely be back when I'm in the city and craving korean food. read more
the reviews had me worried since I've been coming here on and off for 10 years, but I'm happy to report that it's still cozy and delicious! first of all: chicken wings. they say spicy, but it's the tiniest white-pepper spice. I waited a dramatic pause just in case I spoke too soon while eating these, but I'm confirming there's basically no spice - and that they're worth getting. kimchi soup: if you know about the army stew - this is a MUCH more doable portion for 2. the bowl is much bigger than you'd expect, my friend and I barely finished it which was more convenient than trying to eat army stew for 2+ days afterwards. it's not even spicy either, and so comforting! pieces of pork belly that basically melted into the soup and plenty of pieces of kimchi as well. rice is complimentary as long as you request it while ordering :) the bowl for the rice was smaller than I expected; and I didn't ask about getting extra portions of rice so I can't answer that question. calamari and beef bulgogi: not necessarily my favorite, but good chunks of beef, mushrooms, onions, and calamari sticks with cabbage and topped with green onions in a sweeter sauce. my friend and I decided on this option since it cost the same as just getting bulgogi. again, not my favorite but we still ate it + had good flavor. honestly I would've been happier getting 10x wings and the soup with rice instead of the 6x wings that we ordered. we got there about 5:45 after finding decent parking - there were a couple of groups with us waiting in the cold so I definitely recommend coming a bit early! once we were seated and around 6:15 there were groups waiting inside and outside, even after we left around 7:30 there were still people waiting. I'll be back for sure - just had to make sure the quality was the same (if anything, not as spicy as before which is fine by me). came out to about $70 before tip which is also not bad at all. read more
Late night place for dinner that's great after work! The wait can be long so expect to wait but once you're seated the food comes out pretty quickly. It looks small but once you walk the hallway there's a big room, it looks like it used to be someone's garage or something. Delicious and fairly priced. Huge portions. Everything is cooked really well. Street parking isn't so bad, might have to walk a little. Great place to go in this area- I will be back. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Toyose as I've been going here for over ten years! There's been a lot of changes throughout the years, lots of memories, staff changes, lots of price increase, some of the dishes quality has degraded, but this continues to be a great night spot with friends. Plus a walk to Ocean Beach always clears up any buzz! The staff from the earlier days were more fun and seemed to enjoy working there. The staff from recent years seems like they just want to get paid and be out. I feel them. Maybe management has changed or it's just different times. My favorite dishes here are the Fried Chicken, corn cheese and spam stew, but I'll eat just about everything on their menu honestly. Cocktail soju bombs never disappoints. All of the flavors are good but Mango will forever be my favorite. All in all, of course I would come back. I always do. read more

You cannot go wrong with cheese corn, beef bulgogi and soft tofu stew here, they just have the authentic taste. Love how all these dishes were served on a cast iron pan, so you hear the sizzling as you are eating it. The ambiance is great with the Korean decorations, and service was pretty fast overall. I'm honestly confused by the low ratings here. I thought all the food we had was great and pricing is reasonable. With a weeknight reservation we were seated immediately and on time, service was sparse but we got everything we needed Yogurt soju - delicious, could drink so much of this... Kimchi seafood pancake - great crisp, great flavor, lots of seafood, and the sauce is delicious as well Rose tteokboki - so much cheese:') add whatever you want - I loved the fish cakes. Eggs are hard boiled which is not my preference though. Soft tofu stew - loved this. Good depth of flavor, tons of tofu and seafood. Not a lot of beef which is how I like it! Chicken wings - probably would skip this next time. It's fine, but nothing special. With drinks, tips, and tax, we were all very full for about $32 per person, which I felt was pretty reasonable. First time trying this place after passing by it so many times. Who would have thought to open a restaurant in a garage. Where else can you get Korean food until 2am. Very popular place as people are waiting inside and outside the restaurant at times. The service is quick and a wait staff is at your table immediately when you push a button for assistance. We ordered the kimchi cheese pancake, fish cod soup, and the kimchi fried rice. I noticed many ordered their "stew" which is the army stew can feed four people. This place serves out of a garage which gives it a ton of character. We got there right before opening and there was already a line of people waiting. Thankfully we were able to get a seat. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and small and despite the small aisles and space, service was fast and efficient. Food was at a 10. We had the following: - Seafood pancake - Wings - Spicy pork - Beef bulgogi - Beef Kimchi Fried Rice - Corn Cheese - Soju; Strawberry and Lychee (not pictured) The seafood pancake and the wings are on our must order if you come here. I'm not the biggest fan of a seafood mix item but this was amazing! I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. It was #1 on the list for the night. Wings were crispy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. I included a pic of the inside of the wing so you can see for yourself. The soju is also a must!! It's made in house I believe and it was so delish. We had two kinds- they both had some texture to it as like I mentioned I think they puree the fruit themselves into the soju. I would highly recommend you order. Everything else was amazing but I will say the corn cheese did need more kewpie or something- the cheese didn't have an adhesive to the corn which caused them to separate and make it hard to pick up from the dish. the vibes in here are immaculate. this is a great spot to grab dinner at with a group! the booths near the front also have roll-down bamboo blinds for privacy, which i thought was a great idea since people on the waitlist are usually sitting nearby. we ordered the spam stew (budae jjigae, aka "army stew"), and i think it's a decent amount of food for 3-4 people. the stew comes out on a burner. i wish there was an option for extra add-ons (like more instant ramen noodles or rice cakes). we also ordered the kiwi house flavored cocktail soju, which tasted just as great as it looked. i really like how you can tell that fresh kiwi was used instead of artificial syrup. read more
I came here from seeing it appear on many TikTok videos I saw on my feed. I came on a Saturday night around 9 pm and was very happy that they were opened past midnight. There was only one party ahead of us when we arrived so the wait was not very long. The ambience of this place was very cute as it was in the garage space of a sunset home. There was quite a lot of seating even though we were sat pretty close to other parties. They also had a service bell which made it easy to call someone over to order food. We ordered 3 items, the shrimp fried rice, spicy chicken wings and kimchi stew. The best of the 3 items was the spicy chicken wings. There was no spice on it surprisingly but it was very crispy and juicy. The shrimp fried rice was good as well with a good amount of flavor and a generous portion. Our least favorite item was the kimchi stew as it was on the saltier side. Definitely needed rice to eat it. The presentation was great as it was on a gas stove, so definitely would recommend for the ambiance. read more

Such a cute gem in the Outer Sunset! We got there right before they opened on a Thursday and there was no line, but the restaurant filled up very quickly behind us. There's very little room to wait in the restaurant so be prepared to wait outside... even when it's cold. I love how they have service buttons at each table, we had no issues or delays ordering. The beef mushroom stew was delicious and filled with vegetables and the japchae was super flavorful and filling. We had the spicy chicken wings and thought they were great, but could have used a bit more spice. Overall, we had a great experience and are excited to come back! read more

Toyose also known as the Korean garage in the AVES . My first visit until now the decor is the same yet the menu has simplified. True classic staples kimchi fried rice, whole fried chicken, army stew. Please bring back the Jok Bal please This place taught me what soju is. Before BTS days it was Big Bang- Haru Haru. Some 20 years later it's still gigging. Looking around reminding of my youth it hurt more when they didn't card me when I realized I was one of the oldest in the room now, This place still has the best kimchi fried rice still tho.
