Came here for my son's birthday since he was craving sushi. For appetizers, we chose shishito peppers and edamame both with truffle salt. We then shared a 10-piece omakase nigiri and the sake honey roll. My sons ordered a rainbow roll and the birthday boy had an udon soup with tempura that came with it. All were so delicious- though I can't speak for the rainbow roll since I didn't try it. But my son wolfed it down and still wanted some of my sake honey roll, which I wanted to gatekeep, but I felt like a generous mom. I was sitting across the wall that had the specialties and there was the seared toro with uni that kept catching my eye. It wasn't my birthday but shit, I figured I'm paying so why not. It was $28 for 2 pieces, which my son the birthday boy kept repeating as if we were being careless with money. Good boy, but there's gonna times where money is less important than experiences! Since there were only two pieces, I wanted to share and savor every single little bite with the boys. The rice was falling apart after doing a quick dip in the soy sauce. But the delicate pieces were heavenly as soon as it arrived in my mouth. The toro was smooth and buttery as was the uni, fresh and delicate. Ugh, just thinking of it makes my mouth water. Overpriced for what you get. We were going to be in the area for my bf's birthday and I thought Omakase would be nice, as it's one of his favorites. I knew I was chancing it since they don't take reservations. So on Friday, we made it a point to arrive early. We arrived right at their 5pm opening and were seated indoors by the window immediately. The area was swarming with insects: flies, mosquitos, probably some other things and the windowsill could have used a good cleaning. Kinda of a turn off. If that's what the front of the house looks like, what's going on in the back? I know restaurants also can't help who their clientele is, but there was a family of four with a baby screaming his or her head off the entire duration of the meal, which did not add to the ambiance either. Maybe this could have been avoided with later dining times. We ordered the following: - Hamachi shotto ($24): Three hamachi shots, which really was diced up hamachi, avocado and tobiko in a shot glass. Meh. - Wagyu beef with gold flakes ($30): Tender beef, slightly flame kissed with the torch. Good, but worth $15 a piece? Maybe not. - Wild black cod yuzuyaki ($28): Three measly pieces. Did not have any hint of yuzu in it, although I suppose yuzu could be subtle. - Premium Omakase nigiri ($65): BF said it was fresh, but "ok". Came for lunch on a Wednesday and toyosu still delivers! Packed with what seemed to be a working lunch crowd. Service was quick and attentive. Loved the osha roll-lobster and mango and no rice. Hotate nigiri so fresh and sweet. Love that they have tuna belly and hamachi belly too! Nigiri always comes with generous slices of fish on top of a smaller but perfect amount of rice. Toyosu is a great spot for high quality sushi in the Walnut Creek area. My friend and I decided to share an Agedashi Tofu appetizer and the Premium Omakase Sashimi. This was definitely enough food for two people. The Agedashi Tofu was very soft and flavorful in the soy marinade. It was a great introductory appetizer for the Premium Omakase Sashimi. The Premium Omakase Sashimi included high quality pieces of fish, including Otoro and Uni. Each piece was unique and was an experience on its own. The most memorable piece for me was the Otoro, since it melted in your mouth like butter. Overall, the service and ambiance was great as well. Such a cute spot in the area and I've had it on my list for a while. Came on a weekday night for dinner, had a reservation but it was empty. At the peak of our time there, there were only 3 other tables. The toro tartare was lovely. Both rolls we ordered were super forgettable. The miso nasu was def our fav. Miso eggplant is always a go-to and Toyosu's is super yummy. The matcha ipa was subtle and delicious as well. For dessert, we had the homemade matcha donuts which surprised us. It was not too sweet and fresh. My only critique would be that the staff was super unattentive. They didn't approach us after we received our food, so solidly over an hour of not being checked up on. We had to chase them down for a check and halfway through we ran out of water. Looking forward to trying more of their menu since there's plenty they offer that many sushi spots in this area don't, just hoping the service will be better in the upcoming future. read more

It's one of the best quality sushi I've ever had, and none of those came matched the affordable price at Toyosu. Drinks are pretty expensive, but everything else was well worth its price. Ambiance: Low key Sunday night date night. We were able to quickly get a seat for 2. Small restaurant that fills up rapidly. Great for a date night or family outing as there were many different types of groups gathered here. Food: We ordered the Omakase Sashimi, Rainbow roll and the Ozu roll. WHEN: Friday @5:30pm There was trick or treating happening around this time so the streets are busy with both cars and and pedestrians. Luckily there is a lot of paid parking options in the area. We parked in the lot just 2 blocks away for only $1.25/hr and first hour is free. This place has plenty of outdoor seating with heated lamps. It's our first time and I'm excited. Everything was high quality and delicious. Here's what we had: KAMAKASE - $20 Crab Meat, Asparagus, Topped with Unagi and Avocado. Can't go wrong with this kind of roll. It was soft and yummy, and I felt a nice subtle crunch and I still am not sure what it is but it was lovely. QUARTZ - $22 Salmon, Avocado, Soy Wrap, Topped With Tobiko, Scallops, Yuzu Miso Sauce. Although soy wrapped, it was wrapped in the inside between the filling and rice. I love the fresh raw scallops and the yuzu miso sauce brought it all home. Everything about this tasted wonderful and unique. HOKKAIDO DON - $35 Japanese Uni, Ikura, Salmon, and Hamachi over Sushi Rice. Gosh I love Japanese rice. Although there is no sauce the rice alone was moist and soft. The salmon roe brought the saltiness and a bit of that sauce texture, and the uni gave it that rich and creaminess. Every single fish was out of this world and fresh. I was SO happy with this bowl!!! HOMEMADE MATCHA DONUTS (3) - $8 Mango puree filing. Not gonna lie, 80% of the reason why I chose to come here was to try these donuts. They are made to order so they are warm and crispy when served. I'd say these are more like MANGO cronuts, where the matcha powder was like the garnish. I liked the mango purée filling, as it was very sweet and the only sweet part. The pastry was fried with layers like a cronut and it was amazing. I rec this! The food was quite filling! Really enjoyed it here! Would absolutely come again. The rolls were fresh, service was very fast and it was a small but intimate interior. Our food came within 10 minutes and all were fairly priced. It was not the most outstanding sushi I have ever had but no reason to give this place less than 5 stars because it was very good, unique and my friend who doesn't even like sushi said the walnut creek lady was the best roll she's ever had. Review #007 - 2023 I've had a few bad sushi experiences this year so I wasn't sure if I wanted to try a new sushi spot so I decided to come back here since my previous experience wasn't bad. My "adopted" son called and asked my son if we were free to meet up for dinner so I told them to decide what kind of food they wanted to eat and I can choose a place. I tried to call and RSVP for five people; however, they no longer accept reservations. My daughter and I showed up at around 7 PM on Thursday, August 3rd & waited about 5 minutes for a table. The waitress was sweet enough to seat us even though the rest of our party hadn't arrived yet. I ordered some appetizers to start off with and everything showed up pretty quickly. The kampachi carpaccio was good from what I remembered from our previous experience and it still tasted just as good this time. The Santa Barbara uni sashimi was good, but I should've ordered the nigiri since it was too much uni for my taste. I normally enjoy uni on top of my fresh oysters, but they don't offer oysters here. Everything that we ordered was good and fresh. I've been trying my best to cut my carb consumption, but everything was well worth breaking my diet for! The only roll that I thought was a little interesting was the osho, since the ripe mango didn't seem to blend in too well with the rest of the ingredients. However, I didn't mind it too much; especially since it was the only rice-less roll. My husband was very happy with his belated birthday dinner. I've never had caviar but i saw for two pieces with that joint on there it was going for $50 so i said go on head and throw the expensive jelly on there, then she hit us with "have you tried Uni" so here i am like LETS DO IT, . Some of the best flavors my jaws have ever had an entanglement with! I was extremely upset that it was only 2-3 bites, i needed more! So we ordered another order of that thang, and it put a dent in my pockets but a nice lil medley in my stomach! One of our favorite sushi spots in town! My husband and I have come here on a few occasions for lunch, dinner, and takeout. Service - service is always accommodating and friendly. We usually always make reservations when coming here just in case they're busy. Food - Chirashi - their chirashi is pretty good! Fish was fresh and rice was decent. We usually get this at dinner time Lunch bento box - yuzu black cod - I really enjoyed this one! Quartz and Osho Roll - so the one with the soy paper which I think was the osho roll was pretty pricey and in my opinion wasn't worth it. I have to admit - this sushi spot was pretty damn delicious. Whenever I venture to WC, I usually go to my usual favorite, Toyo Sushi, which is further down Ygnacio- in the boonies. I decided to break the habit and try a new spot - shouts to all of the helpful Yelp reviews that led me here! Toyosu's location is in the heart of bustling downtown, near a ton of other popular restaurants. Parking can be a struggle to find during the weekend but financially it's not too bad at $1/hr and it's free after 6p. There is indoor and outdoor seating, ambiance is clean and modern, service is awesome- but let's get down to the good stuff. SAKE HONEY roll and the CHU-TORO nigiri were absolutely delicious and highly recommended. I savored each bite, my taste buds enjoyed each of the sweet, savory, umami flavors, fresh fish, perfectly cooked/seasoned rice and the melt in your mouth textures just all blended together so nicely. I swear- I was having a moment with my Chu-Toro, the fresh medium fatty tuna belly flecked with a sprinkle of salt and that perfectly seasoned rice with a hint of wasabi was sublime - and I don't even like wasabi! Prices are higher than usual (one roll is $20) but I get it- prime location, high quality tasty food, and terrible inflation. However, not sure if I can justify the higher cost with my other go-to sushi spot where the rolls are also tasty, $5 cheaper, bigger, and they have a free parking lot. All in all, a really yummy high quality sushi find and I would return. Right as we got there, there was only an availability to sit outdoors. I added my name and number to the paper list they had and we waited 10 minutes to be seated inside. We sat at the bar. My boyfriend and I ordered the premium omakase nigiri. It was $65 for the premium omakase. We got served one nigiri at a time from the chef and the chef prepared it right in front of us. He told us the name of each fish. The premium omakase nigiri was 10 pieces of fish given one by one. This is my first time having omakase where a chef prepares it right in front of you. It was a good first experience for me. I didn't think I would be full after 10 pieces but I was. My stomach was happy. The server asked if we had any food allergies which was good. Sushi... it's cheaper than therapy. Yep, the sign out front got that right! I went to Toyosu with the fam, and we all enjoyed the food. I wished we made a lunch reservation because they said outdoor seating was for reservations, so they seated us inside. We tried the following - Hokkaido Don - sushi rice bowl with a bit of uni, salmon sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, and ikura. The thickness of the cuts were pretty generous, pretty standard sashimi cuts, but generous compared to those places that skimp. The bowl was close to $30, but I was happy with it. There was some seaweed bits under the fish and over the rice. This came with a side of miso soup and a salad. Both were pretty good. Chicken Katsu Lunch Combo - with soup, salad, tempura, and California roll. My son got this one, and he enjoyed the california roll portion the most. The chicken katsu came with 3 dipping sauces and they contain a bit of spice. The chicken really needed the sauces because the chicken katsu was rather bland and not really juicy. Ribeye Steak Teriyaki - with soup, salad, sashimi (2 pieces salmon and one lighter fish), and spicy tuna roll. The steak teriyaki was really good! If I wasn't ordering raw fish based dish, I'd definitely get this one. Pretty solid lunch combo here. Tempura Udon - udon in broth, and a side of 6 pieces of tempura - a shrimp, a sweet potato, a squash-like thingy, eggplant, and shishito pepper. The tempura was pretty good. The daughter enjoyed the udon, but found the broth to be a bit too salty. Total price for lunch for us 4 is a bit under $90 after taxes, over $100 with tip. A bit pricey, but the quality was good. I'm really curious about their specials, especially their wagyu with uni and caviar and combos of those things. For COVID safety purposes, masks are required, vaccine cards are checked, and tables are sanitized thoroughly. Metered parking and free structure parking in DT Walnut Creek, gotta fight for spots during peak hours. Thank god for vaccinations, bc this place is PACKED. It's a tiny restaurant! The star deduct was because the service was painfully slow. We got there at 12:45 and I didn't get my food until 1:45. They were super friendly though and very accommodating. The food was amazing.
