I don't shop at Trader Joe's very often, but when I do it's either at Stonestown or Westlake. There's only a few things that I would be in here shopping for. Not sure why but Columbus sandwich meat is about 40% less expensive than anywhere else. You can pick your single bottles of beer which are then divided by the the regular six pack price or you can build your own six pack and they carry 'Brookies' and chocolate croissants. They do carry many other items that I usually just get at Safeway and I usually don't bother to stop at this Trader Joes because it has a pain in the ass parking lot but I do shop here every now and then for sandwich meat and beer. I don't know why, maybe it's just in my head but sometimes I feel like I'm getting hostile looks and vibes coming from staff and customers and start to feel like the world hates me! .. I don't know! maybe it's in my head and based on my current mood just left three stars. read more

I always love Trader Joe's but this location is horrendous because there is never any parking available. I have to circle around a few times or stalk someone just to find a spot that could be on the opposite of the lot. I don't mind parking far, but I am one of those people that hates using shopping carts so I end up having to carry all my stuff really far, this is also my fault but I am letting all you other people that hate using shopping carts aware. This location is also really popular and tends to run out of the popular items pretty quickly, so if you really like something buy 2 or 3 of them. Love this Trader Joe's because they aren't crazy busy like the others. Maybe because Safeway is just on the other side? Definitely not the only grocery store on the block but by far the best! This location always has fresh and plentiful flowers. I come here often to buy flowers for gifts. The lines are short - I had to wait maybe behind two people max. Parking can be a bit of a zoo in the lot so I usually park at one of the curb spots so I can get in and out quickly. Super glad this store is so close to my work! read more

I've been to at least 30 Trader Joe's stores several hundred times in my lifetime I have never experienced such a horrible store in my life at the daily city Westlake location. During my visit there, the customer service was zero. I walked around for several minutes to get some custom assistance on a item. There was no help whatsoever. I tried to wave down some customer service members and all they did was look and walk away as if they were robots with zero personality. When I paid for my items, I asked the cashier to inquire about a item. She was just as rude and no customer service skills. Which also include not knowing Harley anything about the store. I finally had to go to the front desk after paying for four items. I finally went to the front desk. There were three people behind the high desk counter. One man was talking to a customer, and the other two behind the desk, ignored me and just kept looking at the computer screen and looking up at the surroundings also. After a few minutes, I walked to the counter and ask the gentleman about an item and he said abruptly that his name was Daniel. I asked for a specific item name. He went onto ramble about all the different items that they had in the store instead of looking for the one item the other two workers besides him no help. The customer service and quality and quantity of the store is a F rating . Look elsewhere and you will be happy. read more

It's a supermarket with lots of organic foods and they are many tote bags to buy for in case you don't want to buy the $.25 bag fee every time. Plus, they have refrigerated bags for old foods that need to stay cool at all times. I usually get the popcorn cause it's one of the flavors I usually get which is the organic popcorn with extra virgin olive oil. They also sell pesto sauce but it's a small container. Where is that damn Tiki Idol? There's an ongoing store promotion where the kids...with the help from the grownups can search for the Tiki Idol and get a prize. They say it's located somewhere in the store. It's about 4 " tall and just bring it to the front whenever you find it and claim your prize. Then you will go on the Wall of Fame, alongside past winners. My youngest son and I would constantly search high and low without any luck. Hey...I love the freebies here: free coffee and grub. They have a huge selection of imported and hard to find beers in here. They even have San Miguel Dark. How effin cool is that? Aside from the beer, they also have a good selection of vinos. Their organic eggs are reasonably priced as well and they are cheaper than Alemany Farmer's Market. They also have all kinds of cold cuts, cheese and specialty sausages. Those apple sausages are delicious, I must say. They also have pet food and treats for the doggies and kitties at home. Can I say that I love the Belgian Cookie as well? They have all kinds of juices and junk food to choose from. Yes...they are junk food disguised as health snacks. Don't try to kid yourself. Did I mention the selection of Olive Oils? No...not Popeye's girlfriend, I'm talkin about Extra Virgin here. On second thought..... My son and I haven't found that Tiki Idol yet. I'll let you know when we find it. I've been happy and even loved all the Trader Joe's that I've ever been to. Not this one. The employees are more interested in socializing with each other than in helping customers. Talking to the checker about how you hung out at a bar while packing my groceries is not what I want to hear while buying milk and produce. When I asked if they carried a certain item, another employee said no then turned to a co-worker and started joking and laughing about something. They didn't notice that I was still standing there waiting to ask a follow up question. read more

The lady who took care of the raisin bread samples was extremely rude and unprofessional. My gf took the bread in the front and her's looked bigger. I started to take the one in the back and the clerk told me in a rude tone, "No no don't play that game with me!" She could've been nicer, "Sir please don't take the back one. Take the front one. Thank you." Why should she be concerned which one I took. It's not like I touched the bread in the back, I was merely reaching for it. She needs to be a checkin clerk and be removed as the sampler clerk. I'm sure all the customers will be complaining about her asso attitude. I bet my bank account on that one!!' However, why oh why can't you please adapt the 1 customer out - 1 customer in process, vs. waiting for a group of 10 or so customers to exit before letting the next group of 10 in??? It would certainly help reduce the wait times. It's cold enough in Daly City as-is. Please consider doing it in order to limit the time customers have to stand in line. I really enjoy going to this Trader Joe's. The parking situation can be a little hectic because there are so many shops in the Westlake Shopping area, but it's worth going to. Every time I go to this grocery store, I get greeted by one of the staff and generally get a nice smile. I've stood looking at two items with a questioned look on my face and many times, someone has asked me if I needed help. They seem to know their produce and products very well. Even while strolling around looking at random things, people have asked if I needed directions to a product. Now that is a very kind and unexpected gesture. I think the selection is decent and the service is excellent. I love watching the checkers because not only do they know so many people's faces or names but they always try to strike up a conversation with you. I appreciate the extra effort. I've been this Trader Joe's so many times and the staff were nice. Today , me and my partner went there to get some groceries. And my partner bought some alcohol for his trip. The story started at the movement at the cashier. I put our groceries cart on the counter and my partner put his alcohol next to cart at the edge. So I put one of the alcohol bottle in the cart because I was worried it's gonna fall and cashier saw it . She asked me my id and I said I didn't bring my id and also those alcohol are not mine. And she said I need to show my id because touched the bottle. I explained her why I touched it. And also if she's not comfortable with the we can take that bottle off, I don't mind . And her reaction was rude and said that she will let us buy it . And she said ' Next time, Do not touch the bottle if I can't show Id , in rude way. I was like " Girl , you don't need to be rude like that . And she said she was just doing her job. She didn't even say sorry at all. Lol I know customer service is really challenging as I work at the Walgreen in SF downtown . There are so many polite ways to communicate customers . If I were her I would apologize for inconvenience but I need to follow the rules, sometimes like that. I told her she is rude and it's not okay to communicate customers who are not rude. And my partner told her she didn't even look at his id . Guess what she said. She said my partner he look like 35 years old. So she doesn't need to look . Omg, What kind of customer service is that? We've been that store so many time before even we live in SF , because we like that store. And I always though "oh Trader joe is really nice place to shop. The Trader Joe's I shop at most because it is easy to get to and not as chaotic as the one in the Richmond, where people seem to want to talk over the cheese and block me from getting to what I want. Their products are excellent. Good value for the money. I've gathered some notes about the products and food suggestions that my friends use (and I use) because they have been so goooood. Pizza Olympiad They come two to a box and take 10 minutes in the oven. One serves two if you're having it with salad and some veggies. Marinated Chicken Breasts Glazed with Asian marinade and fully cooked. Defrost one, slice it up, and throw it in a salad with hard-boiled eggs, small tomatoes, garbanzo beans, onions, pitted black kalamata olives. Boneless, Skinless Pink Salmon from Alaska in a Can Open a can and throw it atop a bed of greens = fancy salad, high in Omega-3 fatty acids. Large Cans of Marinara Sauce Tastes fresh and you don't have to add a thing to make spaghetti. Use half a can over 6 ounces (yeah, right) of pasta. The low fat Tuscany one is good too. Frozen Turkey Meatballs Put three of them in the microwave and nuke it on high for 3-4 minutes. They are precooked so they will brown. Cook some angel hair (Capellini) pasta. Dump on half a can of Trader Joe's Marinara sauce. Cut the meatballs in half. Five-minute spaghetti. Dump on some of their fine-grated Parmesan in a tub (not the shredded in a bag kind). Pork Tenderloins Roast with a little mustard, rosemary, potatoes, and chicken broth. New York Cheesecake Frozen. In the small blue box. Serve with their defrosted frozen raspberries. Ginger Gelato :-) Sharon's Coconut Sorbet :-) Little White Creamer or Dutch Yellow Potatoes in a Bag Oven roast them for half an hour at 400 degrees with a sprinkle of olive oil, sliced garlic, and rosemary. Turn them over once. Packaged Baby Broccoli A cross between broccoli and the Chinese vegetable gai-lan. A package cooks in the microwave with a couple of tablespoons of water in about 3 minutes, covered. Great plain, but you can squirt them with some lemon juice at room temperature. One package lasts for two meals for two people unless you're on Weight Watchers and ready to eat the house. Pitted Kalamata Olives in a Jar Throw them in casseroles and salads. Yellow and Red Roasted Peppers (Mixed) in a Jar Throw them in casseroles and salads or mash them with yogurt or whipped lite cream cheese to make a good dip. Cheeses * Reduced Fat Celtic Cheddar. * Reduced Fat Gouda * Fine-grated Parmesan in a tub * Whipped lite cream cheese in a tub * Brie: Rouge et Noir Triple Creme (made in the USA) and the 60%-butterfat one from Eastern France Breads * Grace Pugliese (don't get the kind that you have to bake yourself) * Nonfat English muffins * Flat lavosh (I make my own hummus) Balsamic Vinegar 10 year old Balsamic vinegar (8 oz. bottle) from Modena, or for an extra dollar, get the 15 year old one (thicker, sweeter, and muskier for dipping bread and drizzling over stuff). Hail Caesar Dressing 12 oz. Jar Olive oil, Parmesan, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and anchovy paste. Santini Extra Virgin Olive Oil in 32 oz. Bottle Excellent flavor and cheap for olive oil. Charles Shaw Wines Cheap wine for cooking. Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc are good for drinking even (I heard). Black Currant Juice To help protect against Alzheimer's disease. Monopolova Vodka $10 vodka. It makes a good tenderizer. (Forget about Accent or MSG.) You have to watch Andreas Viestad 's "Arctic Cooking" episode with the Vodka-Marinated Sirloin and the dead polar bear rug staring up from the floor all the while he's cooking. Mexican Red Sauce Lower in sodium and lower-priced than their Enchilada Sauce. Especially good on eggs. Olive Oil and Red Wine Vinegar Salad Dressing Everyone has asked me for the recipe for my dressing. "It's so light and fresh." Well, it's Trader Joe's. The Goddess Dressing is wonderful. I just bought three bottles yesterday. Cranberry Juice If you have a soda habit you want to kick, mixing a bit of cranberry juice and sparkling water will give you the fizz and sour tang that your mouth desires. Bob's Red Mill Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal -- Rich in fiber, lignans, and omega-3 fats. You can always count on great customer service at Trader Joe's! The lines are never too long nor is the wait for check-out. The store can get a bit crowded, but I just learned to go early in the morning or before closing. I rarerly shop here , but when I do I always find something new and good deals. Another great thing is the products are all environmentally friendly , but the bad side is sometimes they cost a little more and you never heard of the brand name. I love coming here and seeing bananas for .99 cents and oranges for .59 cents . Although I always end up walking around when I get here and looking for something unusual and delicious . Today I found frozen Macarons. They even had a fee flavors. I didn't even know macaroons existed until yesterday , and now I've already had Ketsourne and frozen Trader Joe's Macarons . They have chocolate , vanilla, Pumpkin Pie and a few others , I purchased the Pumpkin Pie and It was beyond delicious . They also had great deal on some item like cliff bars for .99 where Safeway has them for $ 1.67 Overall , I do like a bigger selection with name brands that I know but this is place does have good deals and things you never knew existed . I like this store. The line outside to get in the store seems to move quickly and I usually find most items that I need. My only gripe with this location is one young lady with bright red hair like raggedy Ann who wears a name tag labeled "Sam". I've encountered this girl a few times and she always seems to have a horrible attitude. The first time she was my cashier and I said "Hello" she did not respond, but instead socialized with her co workers. Another time, she was bagging my groceries and she gave me side eye and whispers something to the cashier and the gentleman said "Oh, stop it." I hope she's in school for something other than hospitality because it's not her forte. Great job to everyone else though. read more

I am a huge fan of Trader Joes. I usually think that most Trader Joe's carry the same stuff, but not in this case! I was trying to find goodies for my family. This TJ's was small (compared to my local TJ's) and I could not find the frozen italian dinners that are usually stocked at my local TJs. They did have the same cheap wines at $2.49. What a steal! One of the bigger trader joe's in the SF area - the one in the city on 9th is about half the size of this place. They are well stocked, the staff is really nice and they get the line moving quickly. My favorite part of the supermarket is the produce section - everything is nice and fresh! If you want to buy flowers, they have a good selection of fresh plants and flowers! Two downsides: the parking lot can be a bit crazy sometimes and the cooling system isn't cold enough - I feel like the meat in the fridges and the yogurt/milk area doesn't do a great job of keeping everything super cold like it should be. I like this Trader Joe's location. I find that the cashiers are always friendly, courteous and helpful. But I have to say, that has been my experience at most locations. It's one of the reasons I like to support this chain. The level of courteousness is much better than any other supermarket chain I can think of, and much better than any other chain. It's usually well stocked, and some of my favorite products are their Peanut Butter filled pretzels!!! I really like their coffee selection too. I also really like their vanilla greek yogurt and their Kefir drinks. Also, I hate to admit it but I'm such a fan of the free samples! I ate so much Trader Joe's food that if you cut me, my blood would have run with haiwaiian hibiscus print. My thighs were made of their butter, sourdough bread, and colby cheese. I lived a block and a half from Trader Joe's for three years. My close proximity caused me to make strange dinner choices due to Trader Joe's unbalanced mix of basic products. For example, that jar of curry powder will cost you $8.95, and you won't be able to find reasonably priced bannanas, but you can get dolmas and eggs for cheap. Trader Joe's is a college student's ideal grocery store in the following ways: partial ideological commitment (Yes we have cheap organic black beans and hummus, but they might not come in recyclabe containers), a cornucopia of vegetarian friendly products (Can we say Morningstar Farms Mini Corn Dogs?), cheap staples in the dairy and bread department which formed the majority of my diet in college, a vast selection of ready made meals that don't tast like Hungry Man Dinners, and oodles of cookies, chips, nuts, and dried fruit for one to eat at their desk while they did their homework. Now I have moved far away from Trader Joes --not walking distance-- I have had to taylor my menu and palatte to the flavors of Safeway. One bite of a signature Trader Joe's product is reminiscent of college. I bite a handmade tortilla, and think of barbeques, falafel nights with my roommates, or Sunday morning scramble days--the roommates piling on to the porch to enjoy a gimme lean, mushroom zucchini scramble in the sunshine. I also taste a strange starchy flavor. All of Trader Joe's signature products seem to have a certain FLAVOR maybe like cardboard. Looking back, their food is always good enough, but there really stands room for improvement. I can't say it is as good as it gets (only because I have only been to one other - Stonestown and that one was ok, but not as good as this one in my opinion) but I am a fan for sure. I LOVE their wraps, they have killer yogurt (WAY better than any damn yoplait lol) and tons of yummy goodness for me to work my ass off to assure does not go straight to my hips or other choice areas. All in all, I am VERY happy I am now a part of this fad (I know, can you believe I never was in there, as snobby as I am? LOL jk) and I plan on spending a few bucks here and there....ok who am I kidding, I will be spending what I can when I can. TJ is not cheap (at least not for me) but it is worth spending a few extra bucks on! I keep forgetting to bring in my own damn bags (yes I recycle, so please don't beat me with a spoon!) to join in on the raffle....which I will make a point to do (reminder set to phone? lol) next time (as in next week! LOL)... Only downside for me: If you use an EBT card make sure you know what your balance is, because they will NOT. They do not have a way to check it (odd, but ok!). They lured me in with their avocados 3 for $1, mangoes 3 for $1, red bell peppers 3 for $1...you get the idea...I only have a limited time to do all my grocery shopping for the week and in favor of having extra $ for shoe shopping, I strayed...I'M SORRY!!! Today I returned, since Sprouts has slowly started to raise their prices and deals are no longer as good as they once were. I remembered to come back to my trusted friend with the 19 cent bananas. Everyone was polite, welcoming and courteous, just as I remembered and more important, the prices remained consistent. Thank you for being my reliable fallback.
