Place is brand new so I won't dock them on the service, but they definitely need to work out the kinks. The staff was friendly and apologetic for our wait and order errors. The main issue i have is the food itself. Zero flavor. The coleslaw was flavorless, the corn bread wasn't good. My friend had ribs and they were dry and I had brisket that was cooked fine but no smoke flavor at all. I expect more from a barbecue restaurant. Any flavor you get will be if you drown the food in BBQ sauce. read more

Why open a restaurant if literally nothing is ready?? Very unorganized opening...hostess gave away our table 3 times before we just decided to eat at the bar. No happy hour specials (which is a problem and very weird for that area of Philly), and the bottom portion of the menu with the 1/2 pound of your choice of bbq with sides wasn't being offered so everything had to be purchased separately. Overall, not impressed with the food. Its good for BBQ since there aren't many places like it in the area, but they need to get it together in the service/management department. Went here for nye. Paid about $100 for "vip" tickets and upstairs was just as crowded as downstairs. Literally waited 45 minutes for one drink and had two heatstrokes and a drink spilled on me because you couldn't move. Despite many bad reviews, what I got was pretty good. So i decided to get something to eat because i was around center city. I came to this place because I was walking past this place and I seen that they had bbq. So i get a seat at the bar and ordered a jack and coke as my drink. Yes I balled out that day. So I tried to order the steak but, the bbq items was available for another 20mins. So I got mashed potatoes as my starter. The mashed potatoes was very good. It had a nice texture, sweet flavor, and it wasn't watery. It was very good. 20 10 later, I put in my order for the tri tip steak. When it came out, they had like 7 pieces of steak with a few sides. It also came with some bbq sauces. The steak was tender, cooked through, and well seasoned. But, with the bbq sauce, it had it better. So the food was good. The service was pretty laid back. The front staff is very young and everybody seems to get along with each other. Reminds me where I work at; where the front is very friendly to each other. I work in the kitchen at my place and it reminds me of that. So, the service was pretty good. Overall rating is rare: 5/5 read more

This had to be the worst NYE party I've ever attended. You expect a crowd on New Years but this was completely ridiculous. It took about 45 minutes just to walk from the front door to the VIP section. Which was just as crowded as the general admission section. It took another hour to get a drink. Clearly this was just a cash grab and they didn't seem to care how many tickets they sold. I'd say I won't be returning next NYE but I highly doubt this bar will still be in business unless they make some major changes to their management. 0/10 Embarrassing. read more

We attended the New Years event here. We paid 100 dollars for the "VIP Mezzanine" ticket. It was super crowded and the bar was impossible to get to and only had 1 bar tender (there were only two bars the entire place). We had an awful experience and it was definitely not worth the money. They tried to force us to pay a $30 cover after already having paid for the tickets!! We felt taken advantage of and that the cost of the ticket was far greater than the "benefits" that we received (were supposed to receive). For big events, stay away from this place. read more

I've been to tradesman's many times and enjoy coming to the bar. Tonight was an experience that I would not like to relive. The bouncer that was working (tall, dreads, big guy) kept hitting my back towards the end of my night - around 12:30. I said "stop hitting me" and he promptly attempted to kick me out. Rather than asking me politely to move to the side or leave the bar, he put his hands on me. This is not how anyone, especially a woman, should be treated. He was pushing me out so quickly that I fell and hit my leg on one of the stands that hold the line ropes - I have a huge bruise and bump on my leg because of it. Since he put his hands on me, I do not find this appropriate and feel like management should take action and remove this guy from being a bouncer, his actions were unacceptable. read more

We came here for the first time, not knowing what to expect considering some of the unfavorable reviews. There were 6 of us, so we made a reservation in advance due to it being a beautiful Saturday evening in Philly. Our hostess sat us right away and we were given a fantastic round booth at the front of the restaurant. Drinks came within a reasonable time and our server was incredibly attentive. The music was quite loud for dinner time, so upon asking the establishment did turn down the volume a notch. We ended up ordering the Omnivore spread along with the lamb belly and tri tip steak. All of the meats were cooked perfectly and the pickled veggies were outstanding. Collard greens were a little too salty, however in general, Tradesman's exceeded our expectations. There were plenty of leftovers for our family to take home. Oh, and for all of you micro brew fanatics out there...Pliny the Elder and Industrial Arts Wrench on tap! They said that is what happens when you have a restaurant in the city. They told me they have caught hundreds of them. Me and my friends have been dying for some bbq. We make a reservation for yesterday at 5 30. We are seated and as we look at the menu at the bottom they have combos that include sides. Since we want to try different items we try to order one of them. Our waitress tells us that those options are not available the kitchen isn't set up for this!. But we can order from the a la carte menu the same items on the combo menu! Which would be more expensive and just didn't make sense to us. We wait for our drinks to come which is taking a really long time because at this point the restuarant is not crowded. NOW I WILL GIVE PROPS WHERE DUE. Frank (who I assume is management, but never identified as such) come to the table and we ask about the combo in which he replies we can get it. He sends over another waitress to take our order. We try to order again but now they are out of some of the sides we try to order. We ask well what is available.. and her reply is don't kill the messenger!!!! I sorry WHAT?? Is this how you reply to customers asking reasonable questions?. We order sangria which finally come but it only half of a glass. At this point we have enough and ask to cancel our order and we will pay for our drinks! FRANK come back to the table and we explain all that transpired. He apologizes and drinks on him!. So Tradesman because of Frank we will come back and try again! But the rest of the staff needs some additional training and tighten up on them customer service skills! read more

This place sucks. We had a party of 3 and made a reservation on game day. We get there and they only have outdoor tables for parties of 2 or 6, so they ask if we mind sitting indoors. OF COURSE I mind, but I don't want to be the turd in the punch bowl for my friends so I agree to sit indoors even though I'm *very* uncomfortable with it. Fine. We go inside and they sit us near a projector to watch the Eagles. It has to boot up. They never got it working, so I'm watching the game across the bar seeing the right half of a television. There are no menus; you have to open a website on your phone. Stupid. Then, we decide what we want to order and we were told what we wanted was unavailable because it was Sunday and they were serving the "brunch" menu only. I wanted smoked onion dip and had to settle for tater tots. I understand a brunch menu but it's 1:00pm on a Sunday, Week 3 into the NFL season. The lunch menu doesn't begin until 2pm--sorry, 3pm, but I was already determined to not be sitting there at 3pm. Food options terrifically limited, forced to sit indoors despite a reservation, and they don't have the projector fired up so we can watch the game which is literally what I was there to do. I mean, we're eight months into this pandemic and three weeks into the NFL season and this place hasn't figured any of it out. Started off with BBQ Brussels and they were soooooo soooooo good. Granted, how they made them turned them into not-so-healthy; but the saltiness of how they seasoned them combined with the sweet, spicy, Carolina BBQ sauce was just perfect. The french fried onions in top complemented the Brussels sprouts well. For main course, I elected for the lamb belly taco's. Mexican street style tacos, with lamb belly, and a mix of spices. There was a green and red sauce to put on them, the red was very mild and the green had a nice spice with it. The lamb belly......just think about eating chunks of lamb bacon. These were by far the best "street taco" style tacos I've ever eaten (even beat out the fish tacos I had recently in Huntington Beach, CA). I did get to sample some other foods, that the rest of my party ate. The pulled chicken nachos were also very tasty. A little spicier than I would've liked, but still tasty otherwise. Onion ring batter was one of the best I've ever had as well. Looking at some of the combos that others around us got and they were huge. Their pick 2 combo can feed 4, it was so big. The prices aren't bad, considering right in Center City. 4 of us left full, with some food left on the table, for $120 (including tax and tip). I suggest that anyone hanging around Center City Philly give them a chance. I can't wait to go back. The only reason I docked them a star was, yes it was an accident, but the green sauce got spilled on my pants and shoes when they were putting food on table. The wooden plank, they served the tacos on, didn't seem to hold the sauces on so well. Maybe look at a drilling some small indentations to keep them from sliding. Just a suggestion. read more

I paid $11 for a beer and was given the wrong size (4 oz vs 9 oz) and when I questioned the bartender, he proceeded to talk down to me like I was an idiot even though my friend and I got the SAME beer, paid the SAME price, though she was given twice the quantity. Was really hoping to like this place. Unfortunately the service was the worst I have experienced. We had a reservation for 8 PM, but weren't seated until 8:50. That was the first fault. Went on to order a flight of ciders, which were good. We ordered an appetizer, and 3 meats with 3 sides as the entree. Rather than space the food out, we were brought the appetizer AND the entrees all at once. The server asked us to consolidate the trays because there wasn't room on our tiny table along with the appetizer. I think this should serve as a warning sign to the server that appetizers should come before the entree. None the less, we ate. The pulled pork was incredibly watery. Definitely needed some sauces which were not brought until 15 minutes later... enough time for everything to cool. Probably not helped by the fact that they had all of the large front windows open in 53° weather. The entire meal was rushed. We had planned on ordering several drinks spaced out through the meal, but the timing of meal delivery was so off. Unfortunately, the only thing that was rushed was the meal! After the sub-par service we were ready to get out of there. But again we waited... After our meal the server brought boxes for our meal, but said she couldn't take our card yet because she hadn't printed the bill. So we waited... another 35 minutes. All in all, we were at this establishment for 2.5 hours, and only 20 of those minutes were spent drinking and eating from start to finish. Very disappointing as I love bbq, and my husband loves whiskey. We were hoping this would become a regular restaurant. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place. read more
