Those other Yelp reviews for carpet stores that you just read? Forget about them. There is positively no reason to go anywhere else for carpet in the East Bay. The combination of vast selection, low, low prices, and outstanding customer service (ask for Darryl) set Tradeway head and shoulders above the other guys. And I know, because we visited three other East Bay carpet stores before hitting the jackpot with Tradeway. We were looking for remnant for our bedroom and were positively blown away by the myriad low-cost options available to us at Tradeway. Once we made our selection, we were given a discount for being first time customers, and an additional discount because of discoloration on our our piece of remnant. Great selection of carpets. Fabulous customer service, could not ask for better service! My only issue was the carpet didn't go down as well as I had hoped, but that was probably a product of the person who put it in. I would also suggest checking the carpet color under multiple areas of lighting as when we got it home the color looked a bit different. Very strongly recommended for budget and value conscious customers. Took my elderly parents to finally replace their very old carpet. Only wanted to spend around $1200 for two fairly large rooms. Looked around warehouse on our own and found two matching carpets of sufficient size. Guys were nice, installer was nice, prepared, delivered, installed courteously and competently on schedule. A historic warehouse (it was home to the Pullman company which refurbished train cars) a friendly staff great prices...they took the time to even wrap my small sample in plastic, insisted on it. I have bought carpets for three homes from Rich Harnich in the last 2 years and I have always felt I've gotten my money's worth and more. The warehouse is HUGE! It was a former railroad car refurbishment factory. All three floors are filled wall-to-wall with side-by-side stacked rolls of carpet. You cannot go wrong here. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Went to Tradeway Flooring based on the Yelp reviews and it lived up to it's expectations. Excellent selection of carpet! But keep in mind you have to have the time to look--the place is HUGE! Darryl, the owner was great to work with. He was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He knows his stuff! We purchased a high end remnant piece for a single room and we are very pleased. The installers are individual contractors and we worked with JT Flooring. They did a great job with the installation. They were on time and also had a fair price. I needed carpeting for a 3 bedroom condo, checked with several retailers in the area and then drove out to Richmond. Let me say that if you rate your restaurants on how shiny the silverware is or how cushy the upholstery, this is not for you. Tradeway is an old warehouse (3 levels). Nothing shiny or cushy here. However, if you want excellent service and rock bottom prices, you can't afford to miss Tradeway. We walked the floor looking for something in inventory that met our need but I didn't find it. I did have a name carpet brand (Shaw) and style that I had been quoted in another store, and Daryl, the manager, checked with his supplier. He came in well below the best price I had gotten. So its not just overstock or roll ends or other orphan carpeting that Tradeway offers. You can buy name brand carpeting at excellent prices and save not just money but the time looking for it elsewhere. It's not that Daryl heard my best price and then beat it by a few cents. He just quoted me an excellent price. read more

Absolutely incredible! I have been severely remiss in not giving my rave review earlier! My Dad and I have been bonding over trying to find a carpet for my new room, and when we got to this place he realized he'd been here to buy carpet for his first SF house years ago! This place has staying power for a reason. Let's talk product. A++. I had a very specific idea of what I was looking for, a plush, deep forest green carpet in an unusual size, and after months of searching online and scoping out other carpet stores, I was starting to wonder if you can D.I.Y dye a carpet when I walked into this warehouse and IMMEDIATELY saw exactly what I wanted sitting right in front of me. I couldn't believe it, and though we looked at tons (two levels worth) of great carpets in this warehouse, I knew my search was over. Let's talk EXCELLENT service. The sales lady was so sweet and attentive, offering water and checking in when we looked puzzled! Once we decided, Daniel, a veteran of the carpet trade, helped us unroll the carpet on their machine and examined it with us, making sure we checked the whole thing and making us laugh as we did. But most important of all to me was the manager. Now my Dad is an infamous bargain hunter. He loves a deal and haggling with all his heart, even at the discomfort of his daughter. So when the manager listened to his bargaining and gave us an incredible deal (~110 bucks!) on a high-end 12 by 12 carpet that I would've paid large sums of money to own after so much struggle to find it, I could have hugged him. His price blew all the other remnant places, even with inferior quality, out of the water. My Dad was overjoyed, and still talks about it months later. Lastly, just when we had decided to come back the next day with my truck, Daniel looked at our little car and somehow managed to maneuver the entire carpet into it, resulting with us magically on our way home with our elbows resting comfortably on my dream carpet. Thank you SO MUCH to Tradeway Flooring, and please GO BUY THEIR CARPETS! They are wonderful and 10000% worth it. I already know I will be going back as soon as I can find an excuse to get another carpet, or five. Are carpets acceptable as party favors? Christmas is coming up... read more

Tradeway Carpets doesn't have the shiny, new showroom that other carpet stores have, but don't let that fool you. They have an amazing selection of high quality carpets and better prices than the competition. This store is a throwback to the good old days when customer service was a priority and every employee knew exactly what they were doing. Everybody at Tradeway delivered on all the promises they made me. Darryl, the manager, cut me a good deal for the carpet and vinyl I wanted. He let me take home their carpet display just so I could see the color in the lighting at my home. Willie, the installer, showed up on time at all our appointments. He also did a great job with the installation. I get a lot of compliments on my carpet now. I never got that before. I really wish all companies were like Tradeway. I saw the excellent ratings that they had on here and decided to try this place. Don't let its' outer looks deceive you, for it is a veritable gem of carpeting (and history-- dating back to 1910 when the warehouse had originally been used for cable cars)! Great experience from start to finish. Three huge floors of large remnants...everything from basic carpet to really nice berber. We grabbed a commercial grade, scotchguard, 12x14 remnant for 180. Darryl and his staff were super friendly, knowledgable and took time to unroll and check the remnant we selected for defects. They put us in contact with an installer who picked the carpet up from the warehouse and installed it the next day. All for a very reasonable price. I just bought a very large piece of carpet there yesterday. What a great deal I got. This is not the first time there. Awhile back I needed two custom cut and sewed runner rugs and they did such a great job and again very reasonable price. Darryl Johnson has been a employee there for years and now is the owner. And his helper whose name escapes me is also a great man to work with. There are like 3 giant floors of carpet and vinyl. It is a kick to just go there as this was where they use to work on the old trolley cars, etc. that ran through Oakland, Berkeley/Richmond. Found out about Tradeway from an ad in the CC Times. The selection is unbelievable, the staff knows their stuff and are very patient. We purchased carpet for 2 bedrooms, bought 3 very long runners that we had bound and an area rug for the entry, all at significant savings over any other place, including online. It's definitely worth your time to make the trip there. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours looking - you'll need it. Oh, and if it's a little chilly outside, make sure you bundle up, as the warehouse is cold! read more
