At first, I didn't plan on writing a review. However, after looking at the diamond pendant setting I received, I felt I needed to share my experience and warn anyone considering custom jewelry at TD. I traded in an existing bracelet and ordered a new diamond along with a very simple four-prong pendant setting. The salesperson who assisted me took photos of the exact design I wanted and told me it would be ready in two weeks. I paid $800 for the setting alone, which is already quite expensive for such a simple design. When I finally picked up the pendant, the first thing I noticed was that the bail was completely different from what I had requested. They replaced it with another bail, but honestly, the replacement looked even worse than the first one. Did they really think I wouldn't notice? I went back and told them that the bail was unacceptable. At that point, I hadn't even noticed the defects on the setting itself. Below are photos of the pendant design I requested and the defective pendant I actually received. You can judge the quality and workmanship for yourself. To be honest, if a jeweler cannot properly complete a very simple four-prong setting for a 5.4 mm diamond, I don't think this is a place worth spending your money on. This was not a complicated custom design or a difficult project. I expected basic craftsmanship and attention to detail, but unfortunately, that was not my experience . There is another issue I experienced, but I prefer not to include it here. I just want to advise others to be very careful and thoroughly inspect any jewelry you purchase from this store. read more

I should have read the reviews before coming here to sell my jewelry, but I had two of my small kids with me and needed one more quote. I come in and was a lady came out from the back and greeted me with a big smile. Inside they had a table in the middle with lollipops & water bottles. Another lady told my son he can have a lollipop. So I thought okay they are very polite here. Mind you I went to 4 other places and was comparing prices to sell my jewelry. I told her (lady in a baby blue shirt with her hair up on 3/30 @ 11:40am) that I wanted to sell my bracelet but wanted to see how much I would get first. She broke down 3 different possibilities how much it would be for 14k, 18k and 24k. I appreciated this because the other 4 places did not do this. She asked if I wanted to test it and I said yes. She places my jewelry in a dark gray/black box right behind her to detect the gold in the bracelet. While we were waiting for the results she turns to me asking me about my baby & smiling. After that was done she told me how much she would buy it and after finding out the quote I politely said oh okay thank you so much but it's okay I won't sell it. She asks me "you don't want to sell it?" I said "no I don't want to sell it but thank you." I put my hand out above the glass case and she tosses my jewelry in my hand and gives me the silent treatment and doesn't say anything. Her demeanor and body language totally changed. Not sure what that was about but all I can say if you plan on selling your jewelry, go anywhere else but here. Super rude especially doing that in front of my children! read more

Unbeknownst to me, my friend wanted information on selling coins. Not only does Tan Dac sell jewelry, but they also buy coins and gold! Tony, the proprietor (I think) was very helpful and friendly. While the menfolk were chatting, my friend and I checked out the beautiful display cases of sparkly diamond jewelry. We looked at some beautiful diamond hoop earrings as a possible gift. Horrible service. I came in to ask them if they could help me repair my ring that I had bought from another country. The jem had fell out of the ring and I Just wanted it put in, but they said their service guy was not working today so I said okay thank you and I was about to leave when one of the worker said "wow you were able to find the jem and keep it?" And I just smiled and said yes at the same time another worker with long black hair was standing next to the 1st worker and my mom heard her whispered "yeah she probably just picked up a random fake jem on the floor." Since the lady owner and her husband has passed away...this place has gone down hill with their customer service. There are these 2 specific girls that works here and are both RUDE. (these 2 girls usually greets you when you walk in). Today 11am I dropped off my ring to have one of my small diamonds replaced, which they said it should be done later on the same day. 4pm came along and so I gave them a call to see if it was ready. One of the "young girls" answers the phone, and said it's not ready yet, and said (rudely) I don't need to call them to check in...they would call me when it's ready. WTH!! I'm a customer and I have every right to call to check the status. There was another encounter a few months before... when I also brought my ring to get fixed for the same reason and I didn't have my receipt with me and I was turned away service. (which pissed me off), Because they've never had asked me for my receipt before when they had repaired my same ring a year ago to make my ring a larger size. And so I went home to get my receipt and came back, dropped off my ring to replace the diamond. And when I came back to pick up my ring, the 1out of these 2 young girls was whispering (right in front of me) to another lady that also works there. MOTHA F-er! BADDDD Customer service and quality! DO NOT GO HERE!!! So what attracted us to this store? We shopped around three different places before we stopped in here and made our purchase. Granted, not because they were much cheaper, but because we had purchased something here beforehand and thought we could trust them. Plus, they are quite frequented by customers, and Tran Dac always have customers in there compared to other neighboring jewelery stores that are often empty. Two weeks later when we came back to complain, their customer service was 1/5!!! Ugh, it makes me not want to trust Asian jewelry stores. I hope this experience doesn't tarnish my future experiences with Asian jewelry stores. (Previous times, I never encountered much trouble with them) Basically, its craftsmanship is really, really, really (can i emphasize, REALLY) poor for this particular item we purchased. SO BE WARN!!! LOOOOOOOK closely at the jewelry you want to buy regardless how much it is because they might want to rip you off and sell you a defected piece! You would think that they have inspected each individual piece that is on display to make sure they are selling quality to their loyal customers, but NO! Long story short, the particular item I purchased TWO weeks ago was "defected" and i bought it in to get it fixed/replaced. All the jewelers in the store looked at the piece and unanimously agreed it was DEFECTED. However, the boss lady still wanted to charge us an ADDITIONAL 40% of the price to get it replace for a DEFECTED item they sold us. RIDICULOUS, I must say. I've been procrastinating writing this review and now found the time to do it. I walked into this store after going to several other jewelry competitors within grand century. I came in on December 22,2016 after work to shop for my boyfriend. I knew I wanted to get him a gold necklace and they did have a variety with different lengths and styles. Too bad I didn't catch the gal's name that was helping me--but I decided on a necklace and both parties agreed on $850 for a 22inch 18k gold necklace. I told the gal I am paying with my credit card/debit card and she said well if you pay with CC we do have to charge for tax which was another +$70. I said ok nvm I'll go get cash and come back it's not a problem. Then she said hold on let me check we have a promotion going on that is for the diamonds and we can possibly cover the tax. She went to the owner is who I'm assuming (bald gentlemen) they talked and she came back and said that's fine we will cover the tax and charge you $850. I told her I'm buying this for a Christmas gift and will there be any problem to exchange or anything she said no at least within 1 week. I came back with my boyfriend on December 24,2016 (during their giveaway party) and my boyfriend wanted to get a longer chain since the 22" was a little short. I didn't get this gal's name either but she quoted me for the 24" for $950 I said ok--I have an exchange I just bought this 22" a couple days ago. Then she tells me because I paid with CC she was only exchanging the price of ~$779 (keep in mind I paid $850) because they said they will cover the tax. I was only willing to pay the $100 difference--not the ~$171. And I argued and argued and said that's not right... I told her and pointed out the 2 gal's that helped me and told me there wouldn't be any problem and told them I was buying it for a gift and there wouldn't be any problem me exchanging it and was not told about the difference of the tax. I did let her know I was more than happy to go get cash and pay that night on 12/22 but she said it was ok. So after they talked they decided to say ok and let me get it for the $100 difference from what I paid. Then she tells me that this is the final sale and I cannot exchange for something else. Then I noticed when I got home the receipt she wrote up states I paid $100 cash, I traded in (the exchange of the necklace) $779.82 for a total of 879.82. Now keep in mind at the end of the day I paid $950 ($850 charged on debit and $100 cash). I've taken a picture of the receipt as well to show I'm not lying nor to put this shop down but to tell the facts. My two sense and advice for a business-- be transparent and clear with all customers. Don't beat around the bush just to make money. This is how business close is because we are people and we write reviews of all the good and bad experiences we encounter. I wouldn't want this to happen to another customer who is willing to pay for something but feels they are getting cheated at the end. Legitimate business go by the books and say hey if you are using credit card you will be charged the taxes or you can go get cash and come back to ensure there are no discrepancies or problems in the long run. read more

This jewelry place is a thief...STAY AWAY. I brought my diamond ring in to get it resize which is 1/2 size bigger since I originally bought the ring here. The owner (bald headed guy) charged me an arm and a leg for it; he said the tech has to add more gold to make it bigger. So i agreed to the price. The gold they added is so tiny that makes the bottom of the ring is so thin that is not par portion. The tech has filed other area of the ring. When the confronted, the owner defended and said the tech has to filed it down to make the connection smoother. If that is the case, then he should only filed down at the connection and not other area of my ring. They have made my ring thinner and lighter than what I originally have it. This is clearly STEALING the gold dust. I know it's not much, but it's an expensive ring that is not par portions and doesn't look nice. They are charging for the gold that they said they going add then steal it back in another way. The owner is very rude and needed to take Customer Service class. Please stay away and don't be a victim. Just a suggestion to YELP....needs to have 0 star as an option as well. This business deserves 0 star. read more

My diamond was loose and I brought it back to get tightened - and today (6 years later) they told me that they can't even touch it- or wouldn't even adjust it. I mentioned that it's GIA certified and that they should have record of it in their systems. The bald man told me that they keep no records of their sales. THIS IS INSANE and a horrible business model for its customers. There is no protection here as a buyer - especially when you are spending large amounts of money for jewelry. Unbelievable. Being a proud Vietnamese American, I sometime feel the need to economically support Vietnamese businesses, but often time, I get reminders that my businesses are not appreciated or welcomed. Many Vietnamese business owners, especially these ridiculous jewlery stores, take for granted their customers. As if we can't take our business elsewhere. Sure it is a little cheaper than the jewlery stores are high-end American malls, and you can bargain and skip the taxes by paying cash, but you always leave feeling screwed/cheated. Just because you are cheap, doesn't mean you should treat customers that way. At least in a reputable jewlery stores in "American malls", you know you are being screwed but they treat you nicely with respect, so that makes up for a lot. For a someone who is a straight forward and not good or experience at bargaining, these business are "must avoid". So unless you are a veteran Vietnamese woman with experiences at Cho Ben Thanh. I am so happy I walked into Tran Dac Jewlery. I have been at the Jewlery district in San Francisco, the Shane company and many places in the mall. My girlfriend is meticulous and knows what she likes so it has been difficult finding a diamond and setting combination that will win her over. The staff at Tran Dac: Tony, Thao, Nini and Yen were very patient and listened carefully and was able to show us a beautiful triple excellent 1.4 carat F color VS1 diamond with a beautiful halo setting that she fell in love with. She cannot be happier and loves showing it off and looking at it. After checking prices from a few popular places on the internet and couple of the local stores, my friend and his wife suggested I check out this place. This was where they bought their wedding rings. I was not disappointed. The store had lots of selections on hand. Going in, I kind of knew what I wanted in terms of diamond size, quality, etc. However, I still had a lot of questions, even though I've read some of the How-to's in the internet. Diane was extremely patient with me. She took the time to answer my questions and explained the things I wasn't clear about. She helped me picked out the diamond and a perfect setting for it. The service was impeccable. As for price, they beat all the online and local stores that I went to. My girlfriend, now fiancée, loves the ring. We will come back here to get our wedding rings. BTW, we went back to the store to get the ring resized. I over estimated her ring size. We left the ring there and went to lunch. It was done when we came back about an hour later. My husband bought my engagement ring, wedding band, and anniversary band here. I like working with the female owner, but I've had bad luck with the male owner (heavier stalk, balding man). The female owner recommended that I should get my stones checked twice a year bc they can sometimes become loose. It's been over a year since I've got my rings checked since I had a baby and have been busy getting there with my two young kids. When coming in today, the guy wanted to charge $75 for a polish. Then I said that they usually do it for free bc I purchased the rings here. He then cleaned my rings...it took less than five minutes, he put it in the cleaner solution for a couple minutes and sprayed it dry for about 30 seconds. I don't think I'll be getting my upgrades here. Although I really like the female owner and the man that usually cleans my rings bc he's meticulous and my rings look brand new after, I don't like my luck with this male owner. The staff was knowledgeable and explained a great deal about men's rings. They also recommended a website that I can go to look at more rings design and they can order it for me. They also do custom jewelry.
